Browns - London Butlers Wharf
Sat outside rather than inside, which given the weather was a good choice...initially! If you think it's going to rain, think carefully where you sit as the brollies don't completely cover you if you are sitting at the edge.
Anyway, the choice of starters is very good...in fact so good, both my dining colleage and I had two starters each and skipped the main. I "cheesed out" on the baked camembert - seriously good, particularly with the garlic bread sticks. That was followed by the crab and advocado...very tasty. My dining colleague had the mackrel and mussels, which she loved. Jumping onto dessert, sticky toffee pudding went down a treat...with custard not ice cream (ice-cream was listed on the menu). Call me old-fashioned, but it had to be custard. A bit more custard would have gone down better, but you could tell it was made to order...complete with vanilla seeds. The Eaton Mess however, was too sweet for my dining colleague, so I thought I'd give it a try. Too sweet for me too, and I have a sweet tooth.
The atmosphere was calm, save for a little drama by another group of diners. The view was good, as it is on the [south] riverside. Would strongly consider going back again.
Browns is usually a trusted old friend ! However this time I had a booking at 5:45 the food only arrived at 6:45 and we had to be at the theatre for 7:20. We had made the staff aware of the time pressure.
Therefore rushed food. Unset client and was explained away that they had a big group in!
Note to management , if you’ve got a big group in match it with extra staff across departments .
Lovely eve. Great food and drink. Good selection af food and wine. Service very goid..
Thanks to Dermot for looking after us on our date Nate. It where my fiance and I first met.
Browns is a real favourite of the family because it’s reliably tasty, has a really relaxed vibe yet still feels special being on the river with that view of tower bridge. So it was a natural choice to celebrate my Nanna’s birthday. Our waiter was really attentive. My only issue was that I had some shell in my lobster risotto but there’s always a risk.
Good food & service
Very poor service. We were a large group of 12 but we made a reservation and it took 3.5 hours.. Over 1 hour before receiving the first course. Lights were broken so it was very dark and half the party struggled to read the menu. Waiter kept taking orders for 2-3 people at a time and then disappearing and food was very pub like! Not comparable to Canary Wharf branch and wouldn’t go back.
We went for Sunday lunch which was nice. Food ok and good wine list. Great location
Simple but tasty set lunch menu. Mussels perfectly cooked in white wine and garlic, friendly and attentive waitress. I live locally and will definitely return.
Great service and relaxed atmosphere. Fish and chips a little disappointing but the rest of the food for the 8 of us was great and reasonable price.
Good find on the waterfront
The service was polite & attentive but the waiter was a little miserable! Not a single smile! Food was ok but they’d run out of our favourite beef & ale pie. Overall it’s good for the price and a lovely view of Tower Bridge with seats outside, for a fraction of the price compared to some of the other Butlers Wharf restaurants.
Service was horrible and slow. After waiting 20 minutes waiter came over, apologized for the wait and then proceeded to disappear. Place was almost empty and the waiters were huddled inside chatting. When we finally got our wine, mine was off so I wanted to send it back. Waiter argued that it was fine even though it smelled and tasted like vinegar. He asked if I wanted another wine and I said “No. I’d like the same wine but from a fresh bottle”. He came back and said the bartender agreed that the wine was off. No apology. Food was tasteless. View was great. We saw the tower bridge raised. I’d just go for a drink and the view if you have a lot of time on your hands.
Chaotic service, we had booked table early in the week for a birthday celebration. Restaurant seemed understaffed. We were shown to our table given the food menu but had to locate our own drinks menu.
We asked for bread with our humus starter and it arrived 15 minutes after starter served, when they came to clear the plates.
We asked for mushrooms and onion rings with steaks. but they did not arrive, when we asked waiter he said they had been forgotton. Offered to get some but the steaks would have been cold if we waited.
Steaks were tough.
When we complained about the service they apologised said they had been really busy all day and were short staffed, they took 12% off bill.
This spoilt my birthday evening, we have previously used other Browns and were very pleased with the service but could not recommend this one
We had a very disappointing meal today at Butler’s Wharf. The local manager advised us, after referring to the chef, ‘we always do it like that it’s marinaded’.
Offering Sunday roast dinner of fine English Sirloin deserves much better execution that this. If by marinade your chef means sous vide than I suggest he lowers the temperature and finishes off rare to required doneness, not well done and argue with the customer.
After the embarrassed member of staff replaced the meal I was surprised to see the chef has put mustard underneath my food. I hope this was a misguided culinary twist in presentation and not retribution. Needless to say it ruined the meal.
Had taken my friend for a birthday lunch, we had a brilliant time. This is one of my favourite restaurants. Staff was very attentive. Will absolutely revisit. 👌 Well done guys keep up the great work.
Great food, but service is slow. Not great if you're in a rush.
Nice Thames side restaurant with views over the water and London Bridge. Good atmosphere and friendly staff
Disappointed some meals on the menu not available. A large, very noisy, party was placed at the table next to ours, even though the restaurant was not busy and there were plenty of other tables available, completely spooling our evening.
Nice comfort food on a cool evening and a few good cocktails and by the river so able to watch the world go by. Good bar area for pre and post dinner drinks. Good selection on the menu. Everything we had was tasty - camembert, crab with avocado, fish pie and steak.
Nice riverside location with good options for Sunday lunch. Service was a bit patchy.
Portions are large but the roasted vegetables were overly soft, suggesting they had sat around for a while.
Great comfort-food desserts!
Fantastic as usual, I go here every two weeks and always bring my friends visiting London as it is right next to the Thames with a great view. The food is good and well priced
Great Service !
The weather was good enough to sit outside with wonderful views of the Thames and Tower Bridge. This restaurant is at the quiet end of Shad Thames so there were not too many people walking beside the restaurant and the restaurant too was quiet, as it was a Monday Lunch Time. The food is homely - I had a Cesar Salad and my colleague had Fish and Chips. Both were excellent. The service was efficient, friendly and unhurried. We will happily return for more!
I had to specifically request a table outside to eat at during the evening. I’d got two friends visiting from abroad and I had hoped to enjoy a balmy evening by the Thames watching the world go by. The restaurant’s policy, I was told, was not to serve food outside in the evening, which just seemed crazy considering its location. Still, because I had specifically requested this option in my reservation our server was happy to help us out and I have to say that she provided an attentive service all through our meal.
The food was OK but nothing special.
One other gripe. When we entered and waited to be seated absolutely no-one was at the front-desk to help us out and all the servicing staff looked too busy to stop and help. In the end I was forced to collar the woman who went on to become our server. Where was the front-of-house team while all of this was going on. It did not reflect well on the restaurant during our first five-minutes of basically being ignored. Needs attention.
Great views of the Thames and excellent place to meet
Me and my friend had afternoon tea and it was very good in terms of quality/price. We were seating outside, having nice view on river and Tower Bridge.
Really great food and service.
Fantastic food and the staff are very helpful. Also the location
The in laws met each other for the first time tonight. And what a perfect night it was. Perfect service, outstanding food and excellent value!
We went for a family Sunday meal. Restaurant was rather quiet, but staff friendly and attentive. Food was good. Wine was rather expensive.
