Browns - London Old Jewry
Expected more from this on my first visit, but the food was average and the service was at times rude.
Lovely food and good service. Great for a business lunch.
Food was excellent, service a little slow.
Sadly thats the last time for me at a Browns. I have been to many over the years but the quality of the food is far lower in recent visits.
Service was very slow despite few tables occupied and no sauces offered unless asked for or extra drinks etc.
Just nothing that would bring you back
Great location and nice varied menu
It was a great catch up with the girls and was glad that I had booked a table as totally manic on a Friday evening. The food was good and so were the cocktails!
Decent food lovely service
Not a bad lunch deal but I guess i ordered the wrong thing!! The chicken and ham pie was very poor - came in a soup bowl with a flap of pastry on top and impossible to eat except by tipping it all out on the plate - very messy. Very average taste.
Not tourists, but only occasional visitors to the Square Mile. Delighted to find a restaurant with reasonable table spacing, surprisingly investive, quality cuisine and attentive staff. Thoroughly recommended.
Excellent. It was very quiet between Xmas and New Years so we had an almost exclusive server! Look forward to returning. The steak and lobster was really good.
Lovely place in the City for a catch up with friends.
Great venue for our team Christmas bash, it was very busy, but service was excellent and the food delicious
Good place to reconnect with old friends and colleagues. Browns has a nice relaxed atmosphere with little or no pretensions. and doesn't take itself too seriously. Our group had a good. fun evening
Food was very good. But was let down by the service. I would not have minded if they were busy. But this was not the case
Great service and delicious food. Lovely ambience.
We were met with a warm welcome and taken to our table (upstairs) immediately however it was only 5 pm so not busy). Our allocated waiter was attentive and our drinks order arrived quickly. We placed our food order (prawn and crab linguine with roasted portobello mushrooms as a side dish). We waited a considerable length of time considering only 3 tables upstairs were occupied. When it arrived, the mushrooms were piping hot (and extremely tasty) but it was obvious that our linguine had been ready for some time as it was lukewarm.
If time hadn't been tight, I would have returned it as I dislike warm food but it was very tasty.
Would I return? For drinks, yes. Food, probably not.
Good food. Really nice place. A little loud.
Delicious food and very good service.
Very good central location and large.
Service was slow as it is busy at lunch time.
Vegetarian options not too many
have been here many times - however the last two lunches have been terrible... they do not cook the food fresh as they do not change or adapt for food allergies and do not understand food allergies. service was slow and staff did not seem to have a clue. been here in the evenings and prefer it as the staff seem to be awake then. won't be coming back during the day anymore.
The service was quick but good, we requested this when we arrived due to it being a one hour business lunch.
The chicken avocado salad was especially nice.
Came here for a quick lunch - took over 2 hours!!!! the food was terrible - the pasta was drenched in nothing but uncooked garlic... sent it back and they sent the same dish back which was still strong garlic... then third time it was cooked again and don't think the chef understands that uncooked garlic doesn't work as nothing changed. the service was very slow and left there eating nothing and they tried to charge me for no food.
Great for lunches and dinners with friends. Excellent food and quick and attentive service. The prawn and crab linguini is thoroughly recommended.
I went for a quick work lunch with a friedn. She had a great steak sandwich and I had the prawn & lobster sandwich. It was nice, speedy service reasonable price and friendly staff. No complaints.
I work above it so know I will be there again soon.
I have been twice in a few weeks, my experience exactly the same oddly...cool front desk reception but really friendly and efficient waiting staff. We all had the 2 course special offer menu and quite frankly there was nothing to fault. Really hot, tasty, well presented and a nice atmosphere
As usual, friendly staff (once at table...entry to restaurant I stood around looking for someone to show me to my pre-booked table, eventually had to ask behind the bar and the lady who seated me was not the friendliest), good service (once seated)and no fuss, well cooked simple food with a relaxing atmosphere.
Food was average - slow to come out and not very hot when it arrived. Perhaps there’s a link?
It was far too noisy to hear the people on the other side of the table.
A lovely venue for a catch up with friends. Very good value lunch deal. Our server was very good when he was with us, providing good recommendations. However trying to get attention was sometimes a challenge, and not having the wine on or near the table meant we actually had to leave without finishing the bottle.
Can’t go wrong here a Browns in the City - one of my go to places for over 10 years. However, I was surprised that they did not have two of the three steaks on the dinner menu because they were sold out at 8 pm on a Tuesday night. I ordered fish & chips which was very good for the quality of the fish and the batter but I did find the chips weren’t that fresh and many were hard. Probably needs a refresh upstairs in terms of tables. Live piano was a plus.
Nice atmosphere, great for my business meeting
Nice airy central location. Varied menu and wine list. Our waiter was really good
Good meal with business partners. Could be a bit noisy but manageable. Food was excellent and the profiteroles were the best I have had. All in all a good experience.
Very prompt service and food reasonably priced. Can be noisy, but still fine for a table for two in a quiet corner
On arrival was told there'd been issues with bookings via Open Table
Was given a table when one was made up.
Took 10 minutes to get a member of the waiting staff's attention to order drinks. When my friend arrived and we'd decided on food we had to ask for service. Seemed to be more bar staff than Waiting staff.
Felt it was quite slow service but when asked for the bill were presented with it almost immediately. Basically avearage service but quick to take payment
I met a friend here for dinner just before Christmas. We ate early (5:30pm) and the place was packed out when we arrived. Our food and wine selections were both enjoyable. The service was a little slow (although not excessively) but this was not an issue as it gave my friend and I a good chance to catch up - plus the evening was pretty busy. Overall, an enjoyable night!
Service was terrible, we kept having to wait for ages before anyone saw to us, and we waited an hour after our main course, and no one came to see if we wanted desserts or more drinks, and there were no waiting staff anywhere near. In the end we went up to the bar to request our bill and left.
Food was good, but wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
On arrival they didn't have our booking from Opentable. We were seated anyway. We were not given a drinks menu and our waiter pretty much ignored us throughout our meal. For everything - ordering drinks, ordering food, ordering another drink, asking for our bill, I had to call someone's attention. I felt like were an inconvenience. Not great -and certainly not up to the usual Brown's standards.
We visited Browns for a Friends, he lives in Germany, 65th but it wasn't the best experience. Lack of staff, not everything on the menu and overall just a very poor experience. The Waiter actually told us he had only been employed there for a short time but was leaving.
Really good value "specials" - service was a little slow but staff very apologetic. Our waitress Marion was exceptional - very attentive and helpful. I've been to Browns Old Jewry several times in the last year or so and the whole experience has improved significantly.
Excellent food but quite noisy for a conversation. Sat upstairs which I thought would be quieter, but there's no difference.
