Browns - Reading
Last night of time with my wife and daughter in town visiting me, this was the ideal place to eat. Gluten free friendly food, great service and staff. Glad to have spent the last evening here with them.
I found the Reading Browns to be in an excellent venue opposite the river and the friendly and informative service helped us find just the right food and wine. Very enjoyable and will repeat s0ketime entine soon.
Nice food but over priced. Can get same quality much cheaper elsewhere. Also, no colouring to keep kids occupied, which almost all restaurants offer these days.
Had a fantastic meal for my wife's 50th birthday. There were 11 of us, and everybody enjoyed the food. The service was outstanding, and there was a great atmosphere. Fairly little expensive for what it is (small starters and deserts for the price, and drinks expensive), but was great for a celebration meal.
Waiter wasn’t the best as feel he needed more training about the menu & what drinks they offered so with the bar staff who said he doesn’t speak very good English.
A fine place for lunch or dinner, but not a romantic setting.
We were dining (afternoon tea) with children. Our waiter was brilliant and very understanding
Service very slow
Manager asked twice if we needed anything. Answered yes on both occasions but not acted on. It was lunchtime and restaurant quiet.
Very nice meal in good surroundings
Seating at the ground floor level is a bit cramped - should be extended if possible.
Very good lunch time venue. Good for catching up with work colleagues
Service was friendly & attentive
However, the food was average, and not evocative of the Brown’s of my youth (Ah, Duke St in the late 70s...), nor was it good value as a result
Wasn’t impressed being put at a table next to a party of 4/5 when the rest of the room was empty, either.
Good food. We had a nice brunch there. Service was excellent.
The waitress was the best part of the evening. She was lively, knowledgeable and efficient. She welcomed the party and fixed us up with drinks. The large noisy table which assembled afterwards was not her fault. My duck liver paté starter was delicious but the fish and chips main didn't live up to it, either with the fish batter or the chips. Writing 'Happy Birthday' on the birthday girl's dessert was a nice touch.
The wines were fine, especially the English sparkling wine. One of our party was very happy with the entrecôte steak but, on the whole, this was closer to a fair rather than a great meal.
Pleasant mother’s day meal with family, would definitely return for a similar occasion. The roast dinners were delicious and good sized portions.
Sorry to say we were very disappointed with our browns experience, we waited 1 hour for our starters and our main courses arrived at 2130 our reservation was from 1930. The staff on duty seemed to be stretched to the limit therefore could not blame them. Did get a fair reduction off our bill, but generally the 7 of us was disappointed.
Great festive menu, plenty of choice for everyone
Great birthday dinner - good service- great atmosphere
We came because it was Lobster night. My partner enjoys her Lobster, and was very pleased with the Lobster that night! Service was discreet yet attentive and professionalism. Would recommend for romantic meals or just good good! Lamb rump was EXCELLENT, but my usual favourite is the pork belly.
We attended for Mothers Day where a set menu had been prepared including a selection of roast dinners. The food was good and we enjoyed the visit. The slight downside was the speed of service - we were in there for over 3 hours for 3 courses, however, it was Mothers Day and I guess most restaurants struggle to cover the throughput on such days. The bill was incorrect but they were quick to correct it so no problems there. I also use Browns fairly regularly for business meals as its local and big enough to cater for larger tables.
Excellent food and excellent service. Been a number of times and we've never been dissappointed, it's especially nice when they have someone playing the piano.
I can honestly say, since the menu changed, the food is rather horrid and over priced. I guess they are trying to cut costs. The service is always good and drinks are fine. I won't be going back to browns in a hurry! Bring back the old menu and better produce.
Dinner at Browns was an enjoyable, if not memorable experience. We arrived a little early but the staff led us to the table without delay. They were suitably efficient in taking our orders and making sure we understood what we'd ordered. The wine, and food were good wholesome fare and well worth the money.
