Browns - Windsor
Great food and convenient spot. Lots of space for large groups and children. Would recommend.
Perfect for Valentines.
My partner loved the evening and the live Piano was just the right touch
Great venue to meet for catch up with friends or after work.
The service from start to finish was slow and poor. We had to ask for drinks, the food was dry, the pasta was stodgy, the steak didn’t even look like steak and the egg on schnitzel was dry and hard. We asked the waiter to wipe the table after the main course and he sprayed it with detergent that went onto us (he was oblivious). The desserts were mediocre. Bearing in mind we arrived at 18:30 and the restaurant was not busy it was astonishing the food was bad and the service almost non existent. I thought the restaurant stayed open until 12 as it said on the website, however the staff were saying the restaurant was closed at 8pm and turning people away. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Unfortunately one of our party became instantly ill after their fish and chips which was the only thing they ate that was differen to us, all day. Apart from that it was generally ok. Service was slow considering how quiet the restaurant was. Food ok but what we expected. The room was very hot when we arrived but cooled down after asking for hearing to be turned down.
Maybe we caught it at a bad day as it was insanely busy. But maybe not ideal if you're looking for a relaxed experience. Family and kids... Probably fine.
1st visit here although we have been to other branches. Food and service 1st class. Very varied wine list and well priced. We ate late lunch (or early dinner) at 4.30 in the afternoon so we have no idea how busy it gets at main lunchtime or in the evening. Definitely recommend a visit...
Always a great place to come and hang out
Had a great afternoon tea here for my mum’s b’day on a very lovely late summer’s day. When we arrived they were very busy and I was a bit concerned but we got seated on an upstairs balcony overlooking the river and the afternoon tea was perfect didn’t take long to arrive etc. All in all a great option
Neither the food nor the service was as good as past visits. It was OK but not reason to return.
Another lovely evening spent at Brown's.
Really nice staff as always.
Food and wine very good.
Food was tasty and generous portions. The chicken schnitzel was very flavoursome and juicy. The salted caramel profiteroles were lovely and the waitress was very attentive.
Lovely location by the river with nice outdoor deck
Set menu good value
Couldn’t fulfil request in booking. Service slow. Not all items were available on drinks menu. Bones found in cod.
Meeting old school friends after 31 years
My wife arrived first, by a few minutes and when I joined her I was surprised to find that the less-than-pristine food menus had not been accompanied by the drinks menu. All the floor staff were running around clearing tables so it was a while before I could get the drinks menu. After that, possibly because they had caught up with the table replenishment, the service was flawless, to be fair.
Our starters were OK, but my wife commented that her Crab and Avocado was smaller than that served over the bridge at another national brasserie chain. My Scallops tasted fine but showed no sign of caramelisation, and I thought the capers were a bad choice for garnish as they overpowered the shellfish.
My wife’s gluten free pasta dish was seriously under-cooked; I know from experience that GF pasta hardly ever cooks close to the packet instructions, and therefore needs frequent checking once that recommended cooking time is reached - perhaps not a degree of attention to be expected from a commercial, "chain" kitchen. However, there was no problem in sending it back to the kitchen and - without asking - its replacement was taken off of our bill. In hindsight, I should have sent back the"half lobster" Thermidore that accompanied my not so medium-rare fillet. There were two small lumps of lobster meat along with green, stringy matter that I assume would normally be removed before serving. The steak would probably have been medium-rare if it had been a regular fillet shape, but it was broad and thin.
In summary, not the Brown’s I remember from my youth: here was remedial service let down by poor kitchen execution.
Great atmosphere staff are lovely. Food is good quality although the floor could do with a regular sweep. Lovely place will be back
Asparagus with egg cane with only poached egg white. Waitress said “ok” when quizzed and last we heard of it. Would have loved to buy more drinks but want given the opportunity.
A good and prompt service eve though it was very busy. Expect to pay a bit more than getting food in town but this is deserved due to its fantastic location and general ambience.
Food was very good. Drinks menu was wide ranging and the staff were happy to help. Would recommend on any sunny day for a lovely outdoor meal.
Good food, service and value for money in a nice relaxed atmosphere
A lunch with my sisters to celebrate our wonderful Mum who we lost at Christmas. Bitter sweet but the staff were kind and comforting. Just the right amount of attention without
Great food recommended
Beautiful location but sadly the service and quality of food has deteriorated over the years. The staff were disinterested, the food took a long time to arrive and when we got it, it was almost inedible. Unfortunately, I’m unable to recommend in any circumstances.
Unfortunately there was no record of our Open Table booking but the staff were very accommodating and seated us.
Food was really good and reasonably priced. Great Christmas vibes too
We met for a meal before the theatre. We chose from the a la carte menu and all our choices (including some vegetarian dishes) were delicious and well presented.
Bit pricey for what it is. Staff were attentive when I needed them to be and left me alone when I didn’t, which was great.
Browns let us down on this occasion. A shame as we have good experiences else where.
First meal of our holiday, had a nice evening
It was ascot week and the restaurant was very packed and the seating was cramped. Service was sparse but quick when they actually acknowledge you. They brought the wrong dish but quickly replaced with correct one. Overall just an ok experience.
This place rejected our 1900 booking for 2 because we arrived at 1902...beware...very embarrassing for myself and partner..nasty and aggressive attitude from "manager " who "greeted" us on arrival..Will never return to this or similar named establish..avoid, like a disease!
Nice evening meal here with family on a lovely Summer’s night.
Lively venue. Enjoyed.
We come and wait for 10 minutes, no one come to table. When we try to get the server, they ask us to wait. We asked 2 different servers. Finally decide to leave without ordering
Fantastic service, great food even though a few things had sold out by bank holiday Monday evening. Very enjoyable evening.
The waiter did not speak English, told us what items were not available but left several out, they had no food from the day being sunny. They served warm champagne and the manager tried to make things better but we got up and left. I would not recommend this place to anybody it was horrible. No one needs to hear excuses and long stories just say you’re sorry and print up a menu that shows what is available. Run away from this place and go to the Italian restaurant down the street
Lovely position, riverside. Staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Food delicious. We had limited time but will certainly return and have a more leisurely meal.
Having booked Browns for a work get together was disappointed that the restaurant did not have a record of our booking. however they were very good and managed to accommodate us (table of 10) upstairs which was nice and quiet but we felt out of the way and forgotten sometimes. Food was OK - specials fish was v bony and sea bass was small. Overall a good, convenient venue and reasonable food.
Just spending a nice day by the river in Windsor and popped in for pleasant lunch.
This was my fourth visit to Browns - Windsor, and I keep coming back because I enjoy the location right on the river, the food is excellent, the selection is broad, and the service is top-notch. You can enjoy yourself with both a small group or large, and the menu has a range from comfort food to healthy alternatives.
Days between Xmas and new year - so menu items ran out. BUT they managed to do a good job and also held the table when i was over an hour late due to traffic!!
