Poor atmosphere, not the carvery we were expecting
It was closed!!!! They only use as overflow when the bar is full. No explanation or apology. Just 'it's shut' and 'it's always dead in there'

What a shame you no longer do the wonderful carvery. Starters and desserts on Sunday were strange mixtures of ingredients.
There were hardly any diners place used to be packed. Whilst waiting for my friends one family walked out when they discovered the carvery was gone.
I don't think we will come again unless the carvery returns.
Arrived to find closed. Had message on answerphone when we returned home, Could have been handled better, you could have offered a drink as compensation for our wasted journey.
There was no gas and hence a wonderful lunch with a long lost friend was ruined
The staff tried their best, but whilst I accept this was unavoidable it did not enhance my day
When we entered the restaurant we were told it was closed, after having making a reservation. Ended up in the sports bar watching football my wife was not amused.
We were expecting a carvery-style Sunday dinner, as we had read articles that stated that this was the offering at the hotel. However, the meal was actually a pre-plated Sunday dinner. As one of the diners has specific dietary requirements, this meant that the overall experience and the food provided was not ideal. We were the only visitors in the restauarant for the majority of the time we were there. It did not make for a good atmosphere. The staff were attentive at an appropriate level. It was okay, but not what we were looking for really.
With the voucher we had bought on line £25 for £50 worth of food and drink it was outstanding value.
preferred the carvery we had last year. Starters were OK, main course limited to two options well cooked except sprouts which were hard as a golf ball, placing slices of meat on top of veg a bit odd . Deserts were poor should be a better selection including one hot option and maybe icecream.
The house wine was charged at 17.50 when it stated 15 pounds in menu.
We booked because of a review we saw in the local paper saying it was a carvery and the choices were excellent, the review was done in August 2019 and we arrived to be told it had all changed in October 2019 and it was now just a roast, with no real choices of what was on your plate, I'm a fussy eater, hence why we chose carvery, of the 4 vegtables on my plate, I only ate one, the turkey was processed meat and not very tasty. With the meal there is a choice of starters, which was ok and a choice of dessert, which consisted of a muffin or a chocolate croissant, basically food they had left over from breakfast/tea. The staff were very apologetic and admitted that the new format wasn't working, which was backed up by the restaurant being 85% empty, more staff than customers most of the time, which made them very attentive. Icing on the cake for me was I ordered a pint of beer, which when it came they told me the beer I ordered was not available and they had poured me a pint of something else, not come back and ask me what my alternative would have been. Won't be going back.
Can’t believe that OpenTable doesn’t check that the restaurants that they are supposedly booking for are actually open. Was informed by the hotel that the restaurant is only ever open for hotel breakfast and Sunday lunches.

I booked online but when I got there the restaurant was closed and the staff said it has been closed for months
The open table app allows you to book the restaurant, but when we turned up no one was in the restaurant and was told that it’s only open on sundays. Not impressed
I and my family and friends have been going to this venue for over 6 years. We have in the past particularly enjoyed the Sunday Lunch Carvery and Buffet. When I booked the table for 6 for last Sunday for a Birthday celebration I was told they were still doing the Sunday carvery and buffet on Sundays. When we arrived we discovered they are no longer doing the carvery. Instead it's a "Brunch" . Very limited choice of mains, no desserts and if anyone needs a dairy free alternative that's an extra charge! Totally unacceptable. If you're celebrating a birthday, not even one canle is allowed on the cake.
Well done!! They've turned what was a great Sunday Lunch into a very limited, ordinary and expensive offering. Needless to say last Sunday was the last time we'll be visiting that place, I'll be informing my friends accordingly.
Very confusing, disappointing and not a good experience having bought a visitor with us for a quiet meal out and some time for catch up.

The pub next door had been recently refurbished and newly opened. They had no idea about our booking but there was one table which we gladly took instead of going home but the level of noise in the multi screen pub made conversation difficult. The staff were helpful and apologetic (part of Village). The food was good. We were initially on arrival offered free drinks but this did not occur. Very busy pub.
Got the meal for free as service was terrible and the food was worst. No veg and over cooked beef.
Members of the gym, staff didnt come and take drunks order for ages.
Chef the served roast was most helpful as he answered all questions and helped out.
Plates were too hot to hold and the nice chef went and got cold ones for the kids who are 9 and 6. Even he seemed unimpressed with staff members lack of doing or knowledge
No one knew what soup was apart from him
Daughter has fruit allergies to berry's and every dessert contain fruit a chocolate cake was brought out but had strawberries on top. And was told its only decoration.
Overall not great
Badly organised, inattentive, glum serving staff, avoiding our gaze so we had to get up and get our own drinks. Tables around us not cleared, food was overall good except for roast potatoes (tired and not crispy) and parsnips (raw inside). Lack of salt and pepper on tables...just overall very disappointing.. this used to be our favourite place for Sunday carvery... not anymore. Mum’s birthday treat wasn’t much of one! 🙄
Very quiet for a Saturday night.Would have expected more attentive service considering there were more were more staff than customers.
food is ok for what it is, the service ok too.
to be honest, the food is not really Italian food, more an English fast food version of, and we weren't very impressed with it.
frozen calamari and prawns, burger was soggy after a few minutes, my wife had pork skewer that was dry and overcooked. the chips were average at best.
the waiting staff were helpful, but there was someone very vocal in the kitchen.
all in all, not a great experience, and won't be going back.
Food was lovely, I think they may have been low on staff as our drinks take a good while. But we enjoy coming here

It’s a shame but I would not recommend you to a friend as the service was a real let down. They did say that they were short staffed and this was very obvious from the moment we entered the restaurant. I saw the write up in the Bournemouth Echo which was all positive and decided to give you a try. I have to say the food was nice and reasonable value. My husband and I were going to come for breakfast sometime but I have to say we won’t be now. Overall food pleasant but service a real let down. Sorry.
We have not been back for a while, so we thought we would try again.
The very young staff couldn’t have been any more helpful. The first course was very nice.
Our main meal came and the items ordered were wrong, but the staff were very good at sorting it out. The food was not all that good, but edible.
We decided not to have a dessert or brandies , as the table next to us decided to have her mobile on high volume and was showing her companion some recording that went on for quite a time.
I could not believe that the staff ignored this. I can only think that the staff are youngsters and did not know how to handle this situation .
It’s such a shame as this restaurant should be busy. Sadly not.

This is the second time we have been there at 7.30 for a meal and we were the only two in there, the atmosphere is very cold and the staff were setting up for breakfasts.

Great value quite noisy and the service needs to be desired. table booked for 4 persons and only set up for 3 on arrival.Young lads waiting didn't really have much idea. The food and quality is excellent .
The food overall was really good. However, it was not the most welcoming of restaurants. The staff weren't particularly friendly and the tables were not set up to say "good restaurant". I wouldn't rush to eat there again. Which is maybe why the ambience was not good. The room was cold and with only a handful of other diners it left a lot to be desired.
Excellent sunday lunch, great selection of starters including fish selection, beef on cavery was tender Lovely selection of vegetables, could of been bit hotter.
So many yummy puddings difficult to choose.
Music was a lovely touch in background but could of been little quieter so could hear family conversation better.
But over all will definitely enjoy another visit.
Food was great as always, the manager was exceptional, really friendly ensured all of the guests were happy and also heard him give some really nice feedback to a member of staff! Defo a manager not to lose
I booked a4 course meal with chocolate fountain but only received a3 course meal and there wasn't a chocolate fountain! Nice food but a bit disappointing as it wasn't what was advertised. Our booking was later in the afternoon and the food looked as though it had been sat there for a while. Not quite what I was expecting.

My family of 4 visited The Village Hotel Bournemouth, for a sit down Sunday Mother's Day Carvery at 6pm on Sunday 31st March 2019. This meal was booked by my Brother and I to treat our Mother, and for me as a Mother too! We arrived to find the prawn cocktails dried up and with a fly sitting on one of them. The patê was dried out too! There was no mackerel, no Caesar salads, no feta cheese salads, and no smoked salmon on display. Along with another family, we asked a waitress if more options would be offered, to a reply of "everything has run out apart from some smoked salmon". My Son decided to try a prawn cocktail, and my mother and I waited for a very disappointing smoked salmon 'taster'! My Brother who can't eat shell fish took a dried out patê! What a disappointing start! We then queued up with others for the Carvery! We shouldn't have bothered! The man carving didn't smile once, and it was felt not only by us, that he was rationing everybody to a measly 1 slice of meat! There was no stuffing left, no pigs in blankets, and the Yorkshire puddings were almost inedible and cold. The veg turins were a mess, there were very few parsnips, no carrots, sprouts or mashed potato left, and the cauliflower was cold. The gravy was luke warm. 2 people left the queue, complained and departed the restaurant. The rest of us, asked another waiter for fresh veg, but it took over 10 minutes to be brought out, by this time our meat was stone cold! The food provided was disgusting and well past it's best. As for dessert, well where shall I start? There was none! We had to complain again for some to be brought out! I would have liked fruit salad, but was told it had run out! Mum wanted the Sponge pudding but the water under the turin was stone cold, hence the pudding was disgusting and dried up and cold! We asked for cream, or custard......none was available! The very young waiter agreed it was extremely bad! He was very apologetic and tried to offer free drinks, which we declined.
Already recommended it to several people. This place is an absolute find and we loved it. We went for the Mothers day cavers and value for money is just the start. Theee was lovely entertainment, the food was amazing and we will definitely be back. The only issue was noise level was quite loud however i had an amazing dessert and soon got over it
Beautifully set out dining area, service was very slow, waiting for nearly 10 minutes to be seated? Once seated, ordering drinks took a very long time.
The quality and variety of food was excellent, and good value for money! The choice of all courses was very well balanced, mouth dribbling desserts !
Unfortunately we waited again for the bill, asked 3x to to get the bill! When we finally got the bill, several errors on it! Including extra drinks and even 2 x extra meals? Overall a mixed experience, we would return to see if maybe the service was poor due to being very busy on mother’s day ?
If you are staying at the hotel and want a value for money meal with great service then this is for you. No frills, easy going and lots of choice - food good quality and unlimited means getting your fill (or more)!
Acoustics need work- too noisy and everyone squashed on but then you are getting a good deal so depends what you want.
Great for families with kids- relaxed and unpretentious but maybe not for a romantic night/ afternoon out
