Buckets of mussels are offered with a choice of four distinctive sauces: coconut & chilli, lobster brandy, pancetta, chorizo & tomato or classic white wine. A crayfish burger, seafood linguine, salads and raw and cured seafood dishes are also on the menu.
Top quality and accessibly priced house wines are on offer, as well as a small list of international wines, selected to go particularly well with menu.
Fantastic restaurant, great decor, excellent quality food and the staff were lovely! This is perfect place for a relaxed dinner with family/friends, would highly recommend :)
On a previous review I commented on the degraded efficiency of the new staff. My comments were objective and based on the experience that I had at the time. I also stated that that I was confident that the staff would improve as they gained experience.
It wasn't a negative review, more like constructive feedback.
Andreas, the general manager took note and contacted me directly: I was most impressed at his keen personal interest.
One of the tenants of good customer service is that even if the product is bad, taking the customers concerns seriously and acting on them will in 80% of the time result in return business.
In this case the product is "very good" so when the general manager contacted me, apologised and offered to "make it right" on my next visit, how could I refuse.
I arrived a little early at around 12:30, the table that I had requested was ready for me as were the oysters; my wife's favourite.
On this visit the experience was as good if not better than the first. The staff were attentive and focused (even the new ones); I observed that all patrons were receiving similar attention.
My plan was to just have a dozen oysters and a bottle wine for lunch. The attentiveness and friendliness of the staff extended that hour long lunch into a four and a half hour dining reverie.
After the meal, the bill arrived. Some would have baulked at the price but I felt that it was worth it as the food and service we received was exceptional. My wife and I felt so relaxed and made to feel genuinely valued. I have to admit that because of this we did order considerably more than the "original plan" outlined, hence the large bill; the very same thing happened on our very first visit.
Andreas was true to his word and had really, "made it right"; kudos to you, Andreas.
This restaurant still remains the favourite of my wife and I and we look forward to visiting again very soon.
We booked it at the last minute because our first choice was unavailable. Excellent food- probably our best meal in the UK. Everything was done perfectly.
I have eaten here three times in the past week. I love this place; it has become one of my favourite restaurants in London. The food is wonderful and the staff so friendly and helpful. It makes for the prefect night out.
This is my second review of one of my favorite restaurants, unfortunately the experience was a little disappointing and this time we brought friends.
The staff have changed and they all seemed a overwhelmed, none of the familiar staff remain. On arrival we were treated as walk-ins i.e. no reservation and the table I requested had recently been allocated to someone else only minutes before our arrival.
The food was great as always, I have to recommend the crayfish burger (all crayfish I saw it last visit and once I realized that it wasn't a meat patty with crayfish on top, I had to try it.
The allocated seats were as comfortable as the ones on the table I requested except that I could't see the specials board and felt a little isolated from the ambiance of the restaurant.
The food arrived sporadically i.e. the side dishes arrived around 10 minutes after the mains arrived and I had to request bread twice before it eventually arrived; the waitress was extremely apologetic.
The drinks seemed to take an eternity to arrive, two beers a glass of sangria and a cocktail. I guess that the cocktail held up the order but unlike the food eventually arrived all at the same time.
I'm sure that once the staff have found their feet, the service will improve.
All in all, the little hiccups in service didn't spoil the evening and our friends enjoyed the experience.
This is still one of my favorite restaurants.
Hello Clive, As always thanks for your reviews, your comment and observations can only push us to do better. Please contact me via email to discuss your experience further. Looking forward to have a glass of Primitivo rose' together next time you're in. Have a good day Andrea
We loved everything about Bucket, so much so that at the end of the meal we made another reservation for a few days times so that we could return with friends
The food is average and unimaginative. The seafood is fresh but it has to be honoured with clever complementary combinations and seasoning . If you were served this at someone’s house you’d be happy and impressed , but I expected more, and was disappointed. The ambiance is good and welcoming . The service was not attentive.
Had the best evening enjoying delicious seafood. Told all our friends about it and can't wait to return. Waiting staff are also the friendliest and most professional bunch.
As usual, Service food drinks perfect...a little beef burger on menu would have been 110%.
The restaurant is pleasant, and the food pretty good. There is not a huge selection of different fish, but the fried dishes offer the best choices.
Nice fish restaurant with friendly personell. Food is great and plenty.
Our second visit within a month good food and service
Amazing discovery in Notting Hill. Loved the seafood, wine list and the wonderful hot bread served with butter.
Gorgeous food - loved the raw fish plates and the fish sandwich. All beautifully put together and so tasty. Thoroughly recommend this place - staff service was excellent.
Yes, there is stuff in buckets but plenty more on plates too!
Slightly disappointed that they were out of sweet potato wedges when I went relatively early on a Friday evening. Good excuse (not that one is needed!) to go back.
Service exemplary other than tap water being slow in appearing on request. To be fair I think this is true more often than not elsewhere too - in the U.S tap water with ice appears without you having to even ask - it is part of the service. Given how hot it has been a little bit of thought in this area would have gone a long way I feel.
Look forward to coming back this time with more people so I can sample more of the menu.
Great seafood and a good variety of choices. The service was excellent and a lovely ambience inside. Will definitely go back.
The venue is very nice. Sea food is good and fresh (£1 oysters!!) But disappointed by the raw fish sampler (very bland). Cocktails vere very nice too and staff was attentive and sweet.
The food was fantastic, but so were the staff - nothing was too much trouble and they were friendly and efficient. The decor is also lovely. What a great little restaurant- I hope they open another one in the City so I can take clients there!
I stumbled across this little gem while walking to another restaurant. I was sold as soon as I saw oysters on the menu. It seems that I arrived at "happy hour" which meant that oysters were £1 each with any bottle of wine, bucket of beer or jug of cocktails.
A bottle of Muscadet and a half dozen oysters later I was in heaven. My wife who had never tried oysters before is now a fan.
The décor is relaxing and the comfortable seats meant that I stayed longer and ate more than intended.
The staff are accommodating and efficient.
As the name implies, their signature dishes of mussels, prawns or calamari are served in buckets for one or two people. There's also a selection dishes served on plates. If you're not a seafood person then there's steak dish and if you are against eating anything with a "face", there's a tasty sounding stuffed aubergine dish.
I've visited several times since the first occasion and have made this a regular monthly visit. The staff are always friendly and efficient and the food always fresh and tasty. I was also introduced to two new wines from the extremely witty and "modest", Anna; a "Gavi" an Italian white that works well with oysters and interestingly a "Primetivo Rose". I wasn't sure that it would work with anything but it was delicious and lighter than expected, so kudos to Anna.
I recommend trying the "daily specials", there's always something interesting listed to intrigue any palate.
Absolutely spectacular as always! I came here with my family to celebrate university graduation and was greeted with congratulations, mouth-watering food and compliments on the house. This is how an institution secures a returning customer!
Place is very nice. Food was nice but not as expected. Octopus was very tasty but not great and the frito something was a bit oily. Overall though a great experience and Defenitely recommend to visit at leat once.
Lecker, aber die Portionen könnten größer. Nettes Personal.
Amazing service and food, gorgeous restaurant. Highly recommended.
Fun place, easygoing staff who seemed to enjoy what they do! Treated the kids well and great lunchtime deals and generous portions. Enjoyed the ambiance although it was fairly empty as we went at a strange time (2pm on Sunday). Will definitely be back.
As always the food was great, one of the best places to enjoy oysters and seafood in london. Excellent service and good value for money
Walked pass this place many times since it opened and it took me a year to actually go here. I can see becoming a regular.
Lovely ambience, great menu, very friendly service and the bill was surprisingly reasonable. We finished every single plate. Shame we could not stay for the happy hour (£1 oysters with wine or cocktails between 4-6pm).
One slight criticism is that the Frito mixto could be crispier, perhaps serving it in a bucket rather then a flat plate makes it slightly soggy.
Don't know where to start..calamari divine, cuttlefish delish, mussels to die for...especially when you get to the end of the bucket and you can dunk your bread in that sauce...yuuuuuummmmmmmm
A nice restaurant that I would definitely recommend. Nice decor, nice food and a great service. All staff was very nice and Mikey was very good at explaining dishes and wines.
Amazing hospitality. It was my partner's birthday and the team were so accommodating of this. They made our evening special, allowed me to drop off a cake and brought us out birthday cocktails with our starters. Staff talked at length through the menu and seemed how happy to do so. I'm vegan and they also accommodated for me excellently. Will definitely be back!
This is my second time visiting Bucket. The first time I visited I was blown away by the service and quality. We return with guests this weekend and I have to say I was left disappointed. The service was extremely slow, and the quality of food was not as high. We were served by a lovely lady who knew we were waiting and brought us out some nibbles but it was quite slow for us to receive anything - even oysters which do not need to be cooked! We were brought out some prawns on the house which were unfortunately cold. We were also disappointed with the bucket of mussels we had chosen - a large portion of them were unopened meaning that we only consumed about half what the bucket contained. Generally the food was rushed and a bit hit and miss. Maybe this was an off night but nevertheless this was disappointing and I wont be returning in a hurry, especially given our great first experience. It was also extremely noisy - it wasnt like this the last time we visited but it was very busy!
Food was really disappointing especially for the price tag. I ordered a whole grilled sea bass, it was small and tasteless. The one you bought from Tesco are even better. My partner ordered a bucket of mussels, it was dry because it wasn't cooked in the sauce... lovely atmosphere and very good service though.
Great food, service and great for kids
Great vibe to the place. Food was cooked beautifully and presented well. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Slightly stretched but Didn’t impact the overall experience.
Really relaxed atmosphere. Staff polite and efficient. Food superb.
Great ambiance with a lovely staff. The oyster shots that were recommended to us were a great way to start the meal. We also especially enjoyed the tuna tartar and octopus starters. Looking forward to coming back in the future!
We love this restaurant. We were here last September and just happen upon it. The meal was incredible. So, since we are back in London and in the Notting Hill/Bayswater part of the city we just had to come back. All the fish buckets are incredibly tasty. The calamari are lightly battered and moist. The King Prawns were delightful and the mussels were very good as well. We highly recommend this restaurant and will be back!
The service was exceptional, the waitress we had was so nice and friendly. The food was delicious but nothing special
Excellent food, cocktails and service! This place is a gem and I will definitely be back! Bonus points: the Sunday special oven baked halibut 👌
I have been to Bucket 4-5 times during the week with friends. On Sunday it was the first time to go there with my family. My children asked for something different from what was on the menu, and we thought the waitress understood. When the food came out and it was not at all what we wanted, she took it back immediately and brought out what we had thought we asked for the first time. The service staff apologised sincerely and instantly and even took off the price of the children's food from the bill. It was not their fault at all, but I was impressed that as customers, we were treated so well. I will happily continue to go back and I will continue to recommend them for both their food and their service. They absolutely exceeded my expectations. All of the food was delicious, fresh and well prepared, as always.
My wife dined on Bank Holiday Monday, 6 May, and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner of calamari, snow crab mac and cheese and salad, followed by the chocolate cake special. We celebrated the royal birth with half a litre of the Italian sparkling wine. The ambience and service were excellent. Bucket is highly recommended for a memorable meal at a reasonable price.
