Good value Henley pub and restaurant - would come again
Saturday evening family meal in one of the restaurant booths. 3 had burgers which were very good. Nice ambience but only downside was service got slower as restaurant got busier but didn't spoil the meal.
We are going there repeatedly, one of the places worth having on list.
The staff were very friendly, food was lovely, would highly recommend this place to anyone.
I have visited the Bull a couple of times before on recommendation. However this time we had an awful experience. The staff were slow and inattentive considering that the restaurant was empty.
The food was not good, there were serious issues with two mains. The seabream dishes that my friend and I ordered were off and it smelled.
It took forever to get the attention of the waiter to tell us that the fish was fresh and there was nothing wrong with it. Upon further complaint, the manager came and he offered alternate dishes to compensate for the off dishes.
No desserts menu were offered . The staff completely forgot about us that we had to go to the bar to pay for the bill.
We have been a number of times to the Bull on Bell Street and have never been disappointed, food always very good and the staff are always very attentive
We came here for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. My husband and son shared the roast platter, which was huge with plenty of meat and vegetables, in fact it would probably have been enough for three normal sized appetites! I had the roast beef, which was very good. Everything was cooked really well, with crispy roast potatoes and vegetables with a slight bite to them. The service started off really well, but tailed off after we finished our main courses and we had to wait quite a while to get someone for our bill.
We will definitely be back, either for another Sunday roast or to try the weekday menu.
I nice little pub that we got a reservation in to quite late on due to not knowing the local area. Good food and a large selection of drinks to choose from too. Great service from the member of the team we dealt with that night too which always helps.
We celebrated a 50th Birthday lunch here and it was perfect. Beautiful decor, the food was lovely and the staff were great.
Lovely interior. The food was lovely and staff were great. Had a brilliant meal with friends and was perfect for celebrating the birthday we had got together for. Thoroughly recommend and make sure you don't miss the sticky toffee pudding!
Service was slow, sat down 20 mins late to be told we had to leave the table in a set time. This was not on the booking confirmation.
A late valentines dinner, great food and drink, would definelty visit again!
I have lunch at the Bull quite often during the week and I am very happy with the service and food. staff are always very pleasant and efficient. I had Sunday lunch last week with my daughter and we were impressed with the size of portion and speed of service. I like the décor and the tables are very comfortable. I shall continue to use the Bull on a regular basis.
Booked for 7:15 on a Sunday. Got to the restaurant to find the kitchen closed at 7:00 and the pub was closing at 21:00. Someone forgot to tell opentable.
A dining venue with character, a pleasant ambience and friendly staff. All in all a reliable place with high standards.
Our starters never turned up and the mains took almost an hour to arrive (including a further 20 minutes wait after having enquired after our missing starters we were told the mains were on their way so opted to cancel them). The "House" Burger does not come with a pickle - no great drama albeit such a staple house burger ingredient is missing to be fair, but since there is a pickle dish (which we had ordered) as a starter it seemed reasonable to ask if one might be provided on the side. However, we were first told we'd have to order the whole starter dish (in which they come battered - not wanted with a burger) and then having asked if the waiter could ask the kitchen / manager told that the burger doesn't come with a pickle and they "don't do that" on the side. WTF? This was the icing on the cake of some terrible service and pretty average food. NB it used to be great food here, though always been average to poor on service. The bill then came with our starters charged for plus a service charge: needless to say that for the sake of half a 20p pickled vegetable they lost around £20 in service and the prospect of any future custom from at least four local families who eat out in town a lot. We were very polite to the staff throughout, but not even any apology was forthcoming for the errors or lack of service.
loved the quirky decor . It was a pre 30th wedding anniversary celebration chose it blind as we have never been to henley on thames . so glad we picked the bull out of many.
A nice place, and a friendly welcome. First course okay, but the Thai-style sea bass was uninspiring, and incredibly salty to the extent that my dining partner left his! When we complained about the saltiness, and suggested asking the chef's view, the waitress seemed disinterested.
Later, having received no feedback, we were presented with the bill and there was no comment about the fish. When questioned, there was no apology, no explanation, and no apparent concern. We paid in full, including 10% SC, and left expressing our disappointment. As local residents, we will probably not return - very sad!
This is now the fourth time that we have met with friends and family and had a meal and drinks at the Bull on Bell Street.
We have always had good service and great food, the restaurant is always clean and staff very attentive
Well done to all and would recommend to friends to book
I booked this table for a friend's birthday celebration lunch. Good points were: the general ambience, a table in the conservatory as requested and the waitress was helpful. I ordered the Wagiyu burger which was ok but pricey. However, 4 of my friends had the Broccoli and Quinnoa Salad with added Salmon. They all proclaimed it as mushy and tasteless and it had small portion of salmon which was over cooked. Shame about the food- love the atmosphere.
Staff are very friendly and attentive. Varied drinks menu including cocktails. Lots of choice on the menu and the food was delicious. Whole place has a good vibe to it.
The Bull has a very good menu and wine list. The service is always great, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly - a great night out.
Good selection of cocktails and gins for a pre meal drink. Menu had a lot of tasty dishes making it difficult to choose one. Food was delicious and will have to go back and work my way through the menu. Enjoyed the ambience which felt cosy and friendly. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Food good but expensive for the amount on the plate.
We arrived at 6pm on a Sunday.
We overheard the manager saying to other people sorry there is no roast left, sorry we can't do any more food.
The managers's attitude was not very polite.
Poor quality of food.
would not recommend
An enjoyable meal in a nice fitted pub...we enjoyed it even if it got a bit noisy at times
Really love the new relaxed menu and the sharing nibbles... Lovely new lay out... Defo worth a visit
They only reopened on the wednesday and we went for Sunday Dinner at 2pm. When arriving they advised that there were too many orders already taken and it wouldnt be taken for half an hour? (meaning our meal would be around 3) Not happy about this, but there was an Irish lady who did her best to accommodate. We went for the music 1-4 on a sunday - however, when you sit in the restaurant (the one at the back) - its a bit difficult to get through the seats (space) and you cannot hear the music - the music being the main reason for going. We did get our roast dinner eventually which was warm not hot - but we had to ask for the potatoes and cauliflower cheese - 4 potatoes between two of us is not enough but I let my husband have them - I ate the c/c of which the sauce was liquid. Saying all of this - listening to the music was good - the staff were trying very hard and it was a new menu - I think this will be worth trying again when they have settled in a bit. They also allowed in dogs, which I thought was nice.
Considering we had booked, and they only had 2 bookings from what I saw, it appeared they hadn't reserved us a table, and what we got was poor and not meant for 3 ppl. Was a very tight squeeze.
The Sunday lunch is lovely. The Bull is a great pub with lovely decor. It's a warm and cosy environment with live music.
Great ambiance and delicious food, but slow service, which I have heard from several other people who have eaten there. In the event, it didn't matter as we weren't on a schedule, but I wouldn't recommend it if you need to eat somewhere in a hurry!
On arriving at 9pm the Bull was quite quiet, but this didn't matter as we were sitting down to eat...within an hour or so the atmosphere had completely changed thanks to a couple of guys filling the live music spot - thanks to them we danced off some of the food calories.
The food was good and all 3 of us changed something on our order which was accommodated without issue, I swapped chips for courgette fries and did think the portion was a bit frugal to be honest - not a major issue though, the burger made up for it in spades!!!
The bull has lots of potential but it wasn't quite up to scratch during our visit. There was no wine list which made choosing a wine a bit of a gamble and our martinis were served in wine glasses ... The food was nice but not good value for money in my opinion. I had to ask for a stake knife etc after my food had arrived. I suspect the waiter was new as he didn't seem very experienced. Staff were very friendly just needed more experience around customer expectations/service. For the money I would go elsewhere.
Very pleasant for drink nibbles, but food was a bit average
Overall an average night out. Menu sounded exciting but food was just ok-size of the hake was a little small for the price and the chocolate desert tasted more of flour than chocolate, whilst the creme brûlée had the consistency of scrambled egg. Asked for a wine list and was told it was being changed so they didn't have anything we could see, so asked the waiter what they had and he couldn't tell us, promised to get someone who could and they didn't materialise. Eventually tracked someone down and ordered a nice Chablis, only to find when we went to order a second bottle that there was none left so had to go through the same again, and ask for prices, which had to be gone away and checked. Starter was cleared as soon as forks were down whilst we were still chewing last mouthfuls and staff were very keen! By the end of the meal we were sat for ages unapproached which was fine as we were chatting away but eventually had to go into the bar to ask for our bill so we could leave.
Took my parents here for a Sunday lunch and they absolutely loved it.
My girlfriend and I have started going regularly now as we have just moved into Henley. The food and staff really are top notch. One of my (if not my) favorite pubs in Henley!
Great place to eat ,food is above average and very good value.
We booked 2 months in advance and our request for a table next to a door to the garden was ignored. We had elderly people trying to climb in and out of a booth - not good.
Our food order took an hour and a half (and lots of complaining) before it arrived. It was explained to us that chicken supreme takes a long time to cook......over 90 minutes apparently? When it did eventually appear, the chicken was hard and dry and our steaks (cooked rare, as requested) were as tough as Mike Tyson! All inedible and sent back to the kitchen.
Extremely disappointing and we would never return. It is overpriced and the service is dreadful.
Buzzy atmosphere in the Bull restaurant, partly due to background pub noisyon a Friday night. Excellent service from charming French restaurant manager. My starter of asparagus a bit on the small side with only 3 spears but with aoili, toast and Parma ham was surprisingly filling. Agai. The main of sea bass also quite small and slightly overwhelmed by the generous portion of new potatoes that it is served with. All the food was well cooked and carefully presented.
I always enjoy dining or drinks at the bull. Staf are great and love the atmosphere.
