Stylish, sassy, sociable, Café 21 at Fenwick is a department store diner with a difference. Full meals to wicked treats. The place to gossip, do business, relax. You deserve some me time.
Fantastic food and great service as usual, and felt safe in the current climate
Only team in newcastle cleaning tables properly
Well done x
Although I enjoyed the experience I was disappointed that when I asked for a tea top up I was only given a teapot of water. My mam pointed out that her tea was cold and she was advised to use some of my hot water. I would rather have paid extra for my mam and have a decent pot of tea, but this was never offered.
This was a very successful afternoon with friends spend in a comfortable atmosphere where we felt very safe. We had ordered afternoon tea and we were very happy with the selection of food provided.
Regular visitors.Enjoyed catch up lunch. Both ordered cheese souffle-lovely.
Staff always polite & efficient
Totally on top of Covid regs..
Cafe 21 @ Fenwick was well organised. The staff were attentive, friendly and extremely personable.
I felt very safe considering the C19 restrictions. There were only a few people in the restaurant mid afternoon. The afternoon tea was delicious, plenty of freshly made sandwiches, mini quiche and not too many cakes. The scones were light, tasty & warm. Very nice.
If I had any criticism it was that there were nuts in 3 of the cakes. Although neither myself or my grandaughter have an allergy she doesn’t like almonds and there was an abundance. Both in & as decoration. I love them. The Battenberg was scrumptious, but along with macaroon & coffee& ?hazlenut & Bakewell tart a more balanced selection Would have been preferable. (All beautiful) Thankyou for a lovely experience. Can’t wait until things get back to normal & I can visit Cafe 21’s more often.
Food and service great but coffee really overpriced. Filter coffee extortionate and flat white/Americano same price! More expensive than London! Realistically this is a cafe inside a department store In Newcastle. Really off putting considering mark up on tea and coffee is massive!
Enjoyable lunch. Good service. Quite expensive but tasty.
Food was fantastic however we were seated next to the kitchen which was quite noisy and the smell of eggs was at times over powering. Staff were great and the food itself was delicious.
Although the menu has been thinned down the food was still as great as ever. One of our favourite venues.
Always loved cafe 21. So good to have it open again.
Thoroughly enjoyed a lovely meal, no complaints . Highly recommend.
We've been coming here for years - great that it's open again. There is a good range of dishes here, from light bites to a substantial meal. Everything we have had has been excellent - it's a very reliable experience. Quite expensive so not for everyday eating but good value. Service is very polite and efficient. Very good ambience - polite conversation, not noisy but still a buzz.
I enjoyed an Afternoon tea gift which was simply delicious .My husband enjoyed a bacon & fried egg sandwich which he loves. I needed him to help with my afternoon tea though - he was delighted. We are regulars & so pleased with reopening.Staff are lovely & totally on top of Covid guidelines.
Always efficient service delivered politely and pleasantly. Altho there can be a queue they do their best to find a table. Menu is familiar but that is pleasing to most. The cheese soufflé is great. Wine slightly expensive The cleanliness and sanitising and social distancing at present are good. In all a good place for lunch or tea.
Price rises are very noticeable and there are no longer set menus. I know the service charge is no longer applied. The Early Diner at 21 is good value, cafe 21 is not. You are after all in a department store.
Prosecco is £9 a glass. Fuego is offering on a Mon Tues and Weds, pizza and Prosecco for £10.
It's a lovely place to eat, good food and great staff.
Everything was lovely, we had champagne afternoon tea which was great value for money and delicious.
All the staff were very attentive.
Thoroughly enjoyed a steak mignon and bottle of wine once again. No issue using a voucher which expired a couple of months ago. The cleaning of tables and chairs was seen to be thorough. So pleased to be back! Good food and pleasant staff.
For the first day of re-opening the service was good and the ambience calm. Food as usual was very tasty. The price of side dishes, particularly chips/fries is excessive.
Excellent afternoon champagne tea, the staff were very accommodating and polite - faultless!
Ran out of desserts got one 3 times lucky. Staff friendly.
Went on really busy day took that into consideration had afternoon tea for two bread on sandwiches dry scones were delicious otherwise score would have been lower
Cafe 21 is such a nice change from usual department store restaurants but it’s starting to look a little tired inside. Also, coffee orders take ages! Maybe it was just very busy on this day. Thai Prawn curry well worth a try.
2.00 weekday booking. It was heaving (2 weeks before Christmas). They could not find the booking but seated us straight away anyway. Tables huddled close together.
Service was excellent. Drinks as soon as we were seated and food came promptly. Turkey dinner and pork belly both very good.
Service was not fantastic. Some of the food did not arrive we had to ask the waiter. We were told the fryer had gone off and should have been notified we were not. The noise level was pretty high it felt like a school canteen. A service charge was automatically added which should have been at the discretion of the customer. First course was lovely main course was rather mediocre and could be prepared at home.
Staff were brilliant and very accommodating
Th food was satisfactory although a bit overpriced considering the basic surroundings and all 6 of us found something suitable. The staff were absolutely 1st class and could not have been more helpful and caring. We are all aged 70+. We thought the cafe was a bit more like a diner rather than the comfortable eating place we had expected. It was extremely noisy and quite uncomfortable on the ears of those wearing hearing aids. Our main problem was with the optional 10% service charge which is a practice which we all abhor. We chose not to pay this but left a good tip for the waitresses which is probably claimed by management anyway. I don't think we would return any time soon
Champagne Afternoon Tea
Immediately seated, fast service, delicious food and amazing desert which was a Rose Choux bun. Very unusual and I was pleased with my selection which was beautiful to look at. Staff were very professional and I will definitely visit again.
Food was lovely I had the green curry which was spicy not and tasted delicious
This was a great choice. We all had a different dish- some from the day’s menu and some from the main menu and everything was judged delicious,. Puddings fab but a little more meringue in the Erin mess would have been welcome
