Another great evening at Cafe Birdie! Love their eclectic menu with wonderfully creative drinks!
Had the spicy margs and delicious salmon dish! The burrata was fresh and a nice start to our meal.
Service and wait staff were all a delight!
Our server was delightful and the food is very consistent from one visit to the next.
First Timers, Definitely Not Last Timers!
Warm and eclectic ambience and friendly service! The food is small plates to share and each dish I had brought it’s own unique flavors.
Food is pretty good, but seems inconsistent between visits in portion and quality. Good meal.
At 6pm I was turned away at the door saying it was a 2 1/2 hour wait for a table in a half full room. I then booked a reservation on opentable for 6:15. I watched several other people turned away for the same reason while I waited out my 15 minutes. Didn’t get busy. It was a fine meal with fairly inattentive service. Might have just been the night.
Hip LA, Echo Park, CA cuisine spot. Lively, loud, good food. We had the Moroccan fried chicken, Brussel sprouts and shrimp and grits. No shortage of great food in LA, and this spot holds its own—definitely reserve a table—very much in the know and popular. Silver Lake, Echo Park, very local, very hip, casual and friendly vibe.
Really disappointed to not have the full menu. The pricing was exorbitant for how small the portions were. Spent $180 and enjoyed the flautas from a street cart on Figueroa much better. The flautas were flavorful and filling and cost $6. Instead of going to cafe birdie again I will be eating much more flavorful and properly priced food. This place has gone downhill from its opening. Let's not even get into how bad the service was. If your staff and kitchen isnt prepared for that many covers, its possibly a good idea to not accept that many covers. The bad service for the holiday seriously showed.
Valentine’s Day dinner was pretty good, although the first course (shrimp toast for both) was better than the second (crab spaghetti/salmon). The service was excellent. Unfortunately, on patio we had loud, thumping music from next door (bar?). So, between that and Cafe Birdie’s competing music, we were ready to leave as. The other diners seemed to be feeling the same way. The patio is charming and the music didn’t start until halfway through our dinner, around 8:30pm, I think. Next time we’ll eat earlier, if we dine on the patio.
The Valentine's Day pre-fix menu was hit and miss for us. Went with my boyfriend. My boyfriend really enjoyed his hamachi starter and steak main course. I had the roasted potato starter which was tasty and very flavorful. My main was the seafood spaghetti w/ uni butter and dungeness crab, which unfortunately just tasted like regular spaghetti as the crab pieces were so small I couldn't really tell whether I was tasting crab with each bite or a bit of salty cheese. The dessert was a shared slice of tiramisu, which was good. The service was pretty good, albeit a bit slow, which was totally understandable for a busy holiday dinner. I'm usually much happier with my dining experiences here and will likely keep coming back but probably not for holiday meals in the future.
Valentine’s Day dinner. Such a great fabulous tasty meal. Very busy and a little behind in the kitchen but it wasn’t too big of a deal. Nice to have a meal not be rushed. Everything was delicious.
Really unique and interesting food that’s well executed. Great service and vibe
Great food, really delicious, but poor value for portion size. Portions should be larger or priced lower. We literally joked about going for tacos after dinner. Music WAY too loud, very difficult to talk to someone not immediately next to you. Waitress nice enough but hipster indifferent, not warm or engaging.
Café Birdie has become my new favorite restaurant. It has the kind of innovative dishes that leave you craving them for weeks. The ones with flavor combinations and textures that make you sigh with pleasure. The worst part about this place is the moment you realize your plate is empty. Seriously amazing.
came for reservation, no parking near, gave seat by window, no table despite reservation. definitely strangest service by far...
Had dinner for a party of 8 and had a wonderful time. It was Dine LA week, and they accommodate our request to have 2 our of friends not order off the Dine LA menu, and we understand that this was an exception. So appreciated. Service was excellent - friendly and attentive. Food off the Dine LA menu as superb! We've had a chance to try other items on the menu in the past, and we have not left disappointed. Thanks Cafe Birdie!!
Such a fun place with great, unique food and cocktails.
Lots of fun. A bit slow in service at times but great spot for girls night or date night
Terrific innovative food. Restaurant has big noise level and is a little dark. Otherwise awesome
Delicious food but in smaller portions. We shared. Sweet potato beniets were awesome.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. Nice choice of entrees. It’s just really noisy. I had a difficult time trying to hear the person I was with. This is the only negative thing I have to say about it.
Great place but I felt the dishes were very small.
The lighting is so dark, you have to take out your phone to read the menu. Music was too loud, but they lowered it when I asked. Food was superb.
The food and drinks were excellent, but the portions too small for the price (for most dishes). Either a little more food on the plate -- after all they're all meant to be shared); or a max of $12.00 per dish would have been more reasonable.
We were running quite a bit late for our reservation, but with a quick call problem solved. Super accommodating. Plus the food was great, as always.
Inventive takes on classic foods. Honestly the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had. The shrimp and “grits” (quinoa was YUM) cannot be missed. Normally hate sweet potato but those sweet potato beignets were spectacular. 10/10 across the board!
The staff was very accommodating and really made you feel welcomed. The food was fabulous . They have some vegan options that aren’t on the menu, just ask, the curry was incredible.
It was wonderful!
Delicious and creative food and cocktails! Service was friendly and speedy.
I adore this spot. Impeccable service, inspired dishes, pleasant ambiance. I’m in love!
Patio seating is a must!
Food is good, nothing great but good for sharing. The cocktails were delicious but very little alcohol. I am usually in favor of going light on the booze, but this was very light. Loud room, but fun. Service was quick and helpful.
Great evening music was a little too loud , service was excellent and food was delicious
It's a wonderful restaurant, no doubt. And their homemade pasta is delicious. We felt that for a casual place the fact that they didn't allow any small changes to the meal was, maybe, a bit of pretension. That's a little harsh, but it did seem the restaurant didn't warrant it. And as nice as the waiter was, it took 15 minutes before anyone came to our table once we sat. Still liked it very much, but that's the honest review.
One of our favorite neighborhood places. Food is great and service is always delightful. If you sit in the patio it isn’t loud but in the main dining room, it can get pretty noisy with high ceilings and hard surfaces throughout the interior. But the ambiance is great for a night out!
Food was outstanding. While likely not intending to be shared plates we all shared our meal and I’m glad I was able to try several things on the menu. All were outstanding.
The food is creative and tasty. The small plates allow for having a variety of dishes, sure to please your entire table.
We really liked our first visit to Cafe Birdie. The neighborhood feels alive and we enjoyed the ambiance and food. Overall, we'll probably lighten our selections next time...we left feeling pretty stuffed. Much of what we ordered (fried chicken which was outstanding, mushrooms and peaches which were lost in sauce, pistachio pesto pasta which was perfect, and shrimp n grits) was on the heavy side. the cocktail were excellent. One weird occurance was the pot smell that kept wafting through the patio where we were seating. Kind of an appetite killer. Not sure just where it was coming from but we'll opt for indoors next time, even though it's pretty dark and certainly louder. Note that the Gold Line stop is a block a way and parking in the neighborhood isn't always easy...taking the train is a great way to come and go!
too touchy and very awkward.
We made our reservation and stipulated that we were celebrating a birthday. We arrived, service was nothing to write home about...not bad not exceptional. Servings were incredibly small (marketed as 'shareable' so we were 'encouraged' to order extra plates to 'share'). We were a party of four and ordered 7-8 dishes... (we ended up at another restaurant afterward to enjoy an adult-sized dessert). We ordered the burrata which was served with 2 slices of toast sliced in half (insufficient for a party of four). When we requested more 'bread' to finish the burrata, we were informed we would be charged (so my husband informed them he would remove the charge from the tip. We were charged $4.00 for a slice of toast. The meal could have satiated a party of 2 but was insufficient for a party of four. We left hungry. By the way, my husband's birthday was never acknowledged. On our way out, a server dropped a carafe of wine. My husband who was in a cast had to navigate around broken glass and my daughter's blouse was stained with wine. We never received an apology. We left the restaurant without a "Thanks for coming in" or "Have a nice evening." I am not sure they ever noticed we left. We did leave notes regarding our experience on the receipt. We will never go back. If you want to be honored and made to feel really special on your birthday or any special occasion, go to Malbec Pasadena on Green Street. They are grateful for their customers and make sure you know it.
We were there for dinner, which was light, but it was good. Service was outstanding. It was not crowded, but it was early. We plan to go back again. I'm not sure a 2nd time would bring up anything new, but it's worth the try. There aren't many places I care to try a 2nd time, but this is one of them. I think this place has some surprises. It also features a back patio.
