Attentive service staff, food was complex in flavor and attractively presented
Chameleon is a wonderful restaurant..The food is excellent and the service is wonderful..The owner is most hospitable and takes time to make sure everyone is happy..We will be returning to enjoy future dinners.
Service was slow at times & main dining room is loud. Otherwise food was excellent.
Thank you so much for the great rating and the feedback. We look forward to your next visit.
Visited this new restaurant on Saturday
and loved everything about it. Thought the food was top quality and the warmth of the owners and rest of the staff made our experience extra special. Can’t wait to go back!!
We're so appreciative of this feedback and of your visit. We look forward to welcoming you again soon Alan!
This was our first visit to Cafe Chameleon...we have already referred friends. We visited on a Thursday evening..it was quiet...The food was outstanding as was the service. Cannot find one negative thing to say about our dinner or the service. The portions were perfect size. I especially liked the desert...Toasted Corn Cake parfait...excellent.We will be returning...soon! Thank you for a truly wonderful dinner! We wish you many years of success!
Wow! Thank you so much for this feedback and for visiting us and recommending us to your friends. We look forward to welcoming you again soon!
It was our first visit and we were very pleased. The food is quite good and fairly creative. The owners are warm, friendly and very accommodating. They jump in when the servers are busy elsewhere. The decor is very cool and evokes an old time cafe. It is expensive and it is not a BYO. However it is a welcome addition to an area not know for upscale cuisine and worth the cost. We will return.
We're so appreciative of this feedback and of your visit. We look forward to welcoming you again soon!
Outstanding meal as usual. Wonderful wine selection and amazing desserts. Service was attentive just not super experienced but very nice. Noise is loud but tables are comfortably placed so overall experience is excellent.
We're so appreciative of this feedback and of your visit. We look forward to welcoming you again soon!
Can't count how many times I've been to Cafe Chameleon. The reason for going this evening was to turn my friends on to Bryan's new menu. One of the best meals I've had there and that's saying a lot. Highly recommend the Smoked Trout appetizer and the halibut with Crab Butter..outstanding but not surprising for Chef Gregg who is a master of fish preparation. Dishes that my friends devoured were the Foie Gras , the Steak , and the Chicken...raves all around.
Bernie, sorry for the late reply - we're so appreciative of this feedback and of your visit to try our winter menu. We look forward to welcoming you again soon!
The food, presentation & service were outstanding!
This was our 2nd try. On our first visit the place was practically empty but our food took forever to come out. Although it was amazing. So we figured we’d give it a second try. This time was worse. We were seated right away but it was a full 15 minutes before anyone said hello and took our drink order. The wait Seattle was running past us making no eye contact. Finally when our waiter arrived she explained that someone walked out. So we had a very nice drink and ordered an entree. As we waited we saw that other patrons were getting very annoyed that some others had eaten and left even though they arrived first and their food wasn’t even out yet. Our entree arrived and this time was very underwhelming. The scallops were undercooked and the rack of pork is basically a sliced up pork chop. We felt it was very overpriced. And to top it off when I ordered a second drink it didn’t even resemble the first one I got. But of course. Same price. Very inconsistent. Wait staff needs training and the kitchen needs someone expediting. I see potential. Might give it a 3rd try. But if there’s 3 strikes we’re done.
Hostess seemed very disorganized, had several couples waiting in doorway. Acknowledged both couples and said be "right with you", then skipped one of the couples that had been waiting and went to the ones that just walked into the restaurant. Decor is very ambitious, overall okay. We were seated at a table missing flatware and stemware. Highlight was our waitress who was very good. We had cheeseboard as appetizer, I think it was 18$ for probably 2$ worth of cheese and looked that way on the plate. We had cocktails, very weak. Entree; short rib ravioli was overly mushroom taste & Halibut was okay. Sides of brussel sprouts and truffle fries were good. We passed on dessert. I guess we were disappointed because we heard great things but then again for Bloomingdale, so its probably appropriate.
Food was amazing and service and owner were super friendly and professional.
Despite the fact that two kitchen workers hadn't shown up (the maitre d' helpfully informed us as we were seated) and the wait between courses was...long, the food more than made up for the delays. The foie gras was perfect and the scallops were possibly the best I've ever tasted. Homemade bread was outstanding. The maitre d' was supplying everyone with free drinks to make up for the delay but truly the food more than made up for the wait. The menu is inventive, the presentation very appealing--and the food itself was outstanding. Highly recommended.
Pretty high priced for the amount of food, $34 for 5-6 pieces of pork that were fairly tasteless and pretty undercooked for pork. My wife’s Arctic Char was tiny for $28. Also $8 for sides as the meals barely come with anything else. Walked out hungry. Won’t be back.
My wife and I left the restaurant excited to have found a premier destination so close to home. While the menu will be changing I'd like to point you on tje direction of our selections in the event that they remain on the menu. Sea scallops and pork belly appetizers, red snapper and duck breast entrees, chocolate tart and apple turnover were all outstanding. Service by John was knowledgeable and attentive and a welcoming presence by the owners made for a complete experience. I hope this restaurant is successful so that we can enjoy it long into the future. They're located just minutes from 287 so dont let the slightly offbeat location stop you from giving it a try. More convenient than Ridgewood, Morristown or Montclair. 5 stars all the way.
My table of eight had a great time last night. Great drinks and delicious food. Some of our favorites were the pork belly, the foie gras, the roast chicken and the scallops. Pasta special with shaved truffles was amazing. Nice, welcoming staff too. Can’t wait to return for the duck and octopus.
Thanks for the feedback, we're glad you enjoyed dinner!
My Favorite place, food and wine was outstanding.
Thanks for leaving us this amazing feedback and for visiting. We look forward to having you with us again soon!
The food was amazing all farm to table. Everything is made on site and it shows. The service was impeccable and I loved the ambiance.
We really appreciate the kind words. We look forward to having you join us again soon!
Let me begin with stating that I really want this restaurant to succeed. In our area there is a dearth of good restaurants. In fact, there are only three good ones, and none outstanding. We would all welcome Cafe' Chameleon's as the fourth. I hope the owners read this and make the following, very simple changes to enhance the dining experience: First, the restaurant overall (we were there for dinner on a weekend night) is overly bright - this is an easy fix - just dim the lights. The bar is uninviting as there's a bunch of clutter on it which prevent the bar from being an inviting place to have a drink while waiting for a table. While the owners clearly spent money on renovating the space, the restaurant looks like a coffee shop; the plastic placemats don't help. They should consider using linen tablecloths at night to soften its appearance and create more of a restaurant environment. Also, the tacky holiday decorations on the window sill (facing the street) contributed to the 'diner' look/feel. Finally, the service is uneven. I realize it's a double edge sword: to entice professional waitstaff there needs to be an opportunity for them to make money. Yet, in the absence of experienced servers, the service is far from smooth and lacks polish. Our young server was very earnest but at the outset, drinks (and bread) took too long to receive (despite the fact that the restaurant was relatively empty). When they were finally brought to our table, only three of the four were served. Why she couldn't carry four drinks remained a mystery. Orders were taken on an ipad - I felt like I was in Newark airport. That approach is very declasse indeed. Finally, there was another extraordinarily long wait between the appetizers and the entrees. Again, these are easy items to fix. I do wish the owners luck and hopefully they will address these items and improve the overall dining experience so we will feel excited about referring Cafe' Chameleon to friends.
Thanks for the feedback, it's well noted. Hope you enjoyed the food. Happy New Year!
So delicious and fresh! Very happy! Drink and food were phenomenal!
Thanks so much for the kind words. We're thrilled you enjoyed your visit and we look forward to you returning soon!
Had a wonderful dining experience! The staff was attentive and friendly.
Thanks so much for this feedback. We're blessed with a great team and thrilled you enjoyed your dinner. W we look forward to you returning soon!
The food is delicious .. with a high end flair. Give it a try
We expected, and had heard, that the place would be mobbed and difficult to get into considering the positive press that it has received, but we went on a Sunday with a reservation we didn't need. There were only four tables seated and one boisterous group at a high table at the bar. A significant investment was made in upgrading the space. It looks great. The food was excellent. My group of three shared an appetizer, had three different entrees and three desserts, each was delicious. The service was effusive and attentive. This represents a unique venue in otherwise unremarkable Bloomingdale. I hope it continues to draw and survive. It is nice to not have to wrestle with the foodie havens of Montclair, Hoboken or Jersey City if you don't live there.
appetizer portions too small for the prices..wines are slightly underpoured..
I enjoyed very much this place. I loved the service and the fact that they use all local farmers. The food is amazing, I had the ravioli. I'm definitely coming back. And...they changed their menu every 3 months...so one more reason to be back. Loved it.
First time there. Was pleasantly surprised. The food and especially the service was outstanding.
Excellent food. Very comfortable room. The chef is phenomenal. His fish dishes are always delicious as are his meat and poultry dishes. Never disappointed
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had the Pork Belly appetizer and it was amazing and another person had the soup and said it was the best soup she ever had. My steak was cooked perfect and my wife enjoyed her Halibut and said it was seasoned perfect. My wife is a chef and always finds a flaw in the food and this time she said it was amazing....We highly recommend.
Definitely a hidden gem. The food and service were excellent. We look forward to a return visit.
Wait staff was fantastic! They were right there if you needed them but never were annoying.
Food courses were perfectly timed!
The food !!!
Perfectly cooked ! Just fantastic!
I absolutely do recommend stopping by for a Great meal!
Though the meals themselves were delicious, I don't think we'd go back. We first ordered wine off the menu, only to come back and say they didn't have it so they offered another kind for the same price. They had a limited menu with only 2 other specials that evening; but a lot of seafood on the menu which most of our party doesn't eat. They did offer options which was great including a chicken, pork and beef. I opted for the sirloin. I know most chefs hate when people order beef medium well, but that is how I prefer it and if I'm paying $35 for a meal, I'd like it to come out to my liking. I even explained to our waiter that I only wanted a little bit of pink. It came out raw, sent it back; then it came out hotter on the outside, but now medium rare. I had to send my meal back a second time, where they cooked it well done (no pink at all). There were 3 pieces of sliced meat on my plate and at that point the rest of our party had finished their meals so I ate it anyway. The servers apologized profusely, but working in the restaurant industry myself, I know it wasn't their fault that the chef didn't know how to properly cook a steak to how the patron wanted it. However, they had several waitstaff on hand, the restaurant wasn't completely filled and we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a 2nd drink as the first one apparently was given away to someone else. We left their satisfied, not stuffed which is perfectly fine, but for 3 pieces of meat (I would guess it was a 4oz sirloin steak before cooking), 3 bites of carrots and some home fried potato chips, it wasn't worth the price of the dish. I don't believe they are in the right kind of neighborhood to charge those kind of prices and not deliver on the service; which most people don't mind paying for.
Amazing choices of dishes and wine list!
We thoroughly enjoy Cafe Chameleon- their food is outstanding, the service is attentive without being intrusive and the overall experience is delightful. NY and Cali
Everything was excellent. The food was top notch and the service couldn't have been better. A hidden gem in Bloomingdale.
Food was excellent. Service left something to be desired. Expected a little more professionalism at the price. Manager said they were much busier than normal, due to exceptional review. Will definitely give it another try.
They need more help, we waited forever to get service and the food was ok. The owners were very nice but they really need to get more help, we saw people walking out because they were not being helped
What a wonderful dining experience! Our second time here in ten days! The pickled beet salad was delicious. I don’t know what kind of feta cheese they use, but it is delicious.
The halibut is exceptional. Perfectly cooked, with the most excellent cauliflower preparation. So satisfying. The J Chardonnay was perfect with it. My husband had the trout special which was truly special. A magnificent dinner.
I would recommed but maybe not on a friday night. Food was very good but something was off in the kitchen we waited as did others for our dinner. Almost an hour after appetizers were served.
Café Chameleon in Bloomingdale is a great addition to the town. The renovation to the space is evident. The chairs are comfortable and we enjoyed spending our evening in the new space. My 89 year old mother in law was with us and she said it was the Best meal of her life! Appetizers included scallops and salads. Entrees were duck, pork and halibut. Desserts were the highlight of the meal. Don't skip dessert! Apple turnover and pumpkin pave with cinnamon donut were wonderful. We will be back.
The food was wonderful. The chef is a genius with food. The red snapper I had was perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. My husband’s duck was perfectly cooked. The presentation was exquisite.
The wine list was very good. There were a few wines that were higher priced, but most were midrange in price.
The owners were very charming and welcoming. We felt extremely comfortable.
We will be back.
