Reasonable taste and good hospitality. Beautiful sunset is complimentary.
I took my bff to brunch for her birthday. They even printed a special menu that said Happy Birthday on it and added a candle to our dessert. Very classy place.
This was our first visit to Cafe Del Rey even though we have driven past it for years. I was intrigued by it's #
1 rating in the Argonaut and decided to give it a try for a special get together with friends. We were all so happy with our evening. We had window table. Vladimir gave us excellent service. The food and drinks were outstanding. We were sorry that we had waited so long to try out Cafe Del Rey. Looking forward to returning for another special dinner!
As always great food and service. It is also so nice to have a view of the Marina. Our server remembered us and that was a nice touch as well
Very good food and service, good view of the marina. Easy valet parking (no charge at lunch time). What else can you ask for.
Not much Mel. Thank you for reviewing the restaurant and saying such nice things.
Our server was incredible the service was great. The view cannot be beat!!! I love the bar and the fireplace inside the bar and The most comfortable chairs.
The food was great I had a salad that was my favorite salad Fresh perfect greens with candy pecans and a Sherry vinaigrette dressing oh my God!!!The french onion soup is Wonderful. My friend had a short ribs of beef says that he said tasted as that would been cooking for 30 hours wonderful. I had the Diver scallops. Very excited to come back here for some more incredible food great service and celebrate another birthday.
Thank you for joining us that evening and thank you for taking a time out of your day to write this review, it is lovely. It means a lot to my staff to hear how guests perceive the restaurant and their service and the Chefs to hear how wonderful their dishes were.
We had great food and terrific service. Can’t wait to go back
Thank you for coming to our restaurant, I am so happy you had a great time and that you will be back very soon.
It was a very relaxed and comfortable feel. We had a table by the window for a lovely sunset view with people from out of town looking for a water view. Just loved the olive tapenade. Service was well-timed and friendly.
Thank you Barbara, so kind of you to take the time to write a review and such a nice one too. Hope you come back soon.
Fantastic view and food. Kitchen was a bit busy so it was a leisurely dinner but if you have good company in such a fine ambiance, it does not matter. Besides, I realised it gives time to appreciate the starter without having to jump straight into the main course. Most civilised! And the wait staff was wonderful.
It was my second time there - once for lunch (excellent and very timely!) and now for dinner.
Definitely going back!
Thank you Maxie, I'm glad you had such a nice time. I do also appreciate the fact that you realized we were busy and so you adjusted your expectations on delivery of the food. I agree with the concept of a relaxed service only enhances your experience. We live in a world where people now expect everything instantly just like the click of a button on their phone. Of course some people have time constraints or do not have company like yours to chat with. I am so glad you all had a wonderful time.
First off, I have dined at Cafe Del Rey once or twice a year since 1994, so I have experience the various changes in chefs, menus, etc. I understand the restaurant has brought on a new chef and is trying to make some changes. But I think they have not ironed out all the kinks yet.
I brought business associates there from out of town to hopefully impress them with the views and great food. The first glitch involved the wait staff telling us the calamari appetizer was grilled. When we received it, we found that it was breaded and fried. The calamari was barely warm and frankly not worth ordering again. I can get good fried calamari for much less elsewhere.
My colleague and I ordered the grilled Octopus entree. Again found that when the entree was delivered to the table, it was barely warm. The Octopus was tough/chewy, although the presentation was nice. That means the Octopus was frozen (not fresh) and/or over cooked. Our other colleague ordered the Branzino, which also as presented very nicely and he mentioned he enjoyed it very much.
The ambiance and service are always great at Cafe Del Rey, as is the wine list. But my issue is that if I pay a premium price for dining, the kitchen and wait staff need to deliver the food to the table when it is hot, and the seafood prepared correctly.
Unfortunately for Cafe Del Rey, I just returned from Greece and we enjoyed grilled fresh Octopus nearly everyday. So that was my bench mark.
Hello mark, my apologies Sir for the experience you had. I could be mistaken but i'm thinking that there was a mix up in the explanations of the calamari and the octopus. No matter what happened the server is responsible to ensure each guest is confident in what they ordered and there should be no surprises and I apologize for that. I also apologize for the temperature of the dishes, that is not acceptable. Please reach out to me so we may discuss further if that works for you.
we love this place
Thank you so very much for the 5 stars it really makes us very happy when folks take the time to let others know how they feel about us.
We highly recommend Cafe Del Rey. Our service staff was helpful, pleasant, and let us enjoy our mother daughter evening at our own pace. The manager asked us how our experience was, and everyone from the valet attendant to the hostess to the servers made us feel like royalty here. Thank you for a fantastic evening, and we will be back again the next time we’re in the area.
As a raw vegan, they looked after me! Huge salads (two) with avocado, fruit and nuts. For my vegan friend she had the roasted beet salad without cheese, sourdough bread instead of the cheese bread and a mushroom risotto! Fantastic service.
We always try to accommodate our guests needs. thank you for dining with us Christina.
Lovely atmosphere. Wonderful waiter and staff. They went above and beyond. We were celebrating my father’s birthday and they were very kind, patient, and aimed to please. The food was good, but we weren’t super keen on the brussel sprouts. They were a bit too salty. Overall though we had a very pleasant evening.
honestly we went there because It was close to my friend’s place, when I made my reservation, I said that its a birthday surprise (that's mean the birthday boy doesn’t know that we will celebrate him) until after dinner...so basically #1 thing we were seated and there was a Happy Birthday menu, so the surprise was ruined...#2 the waiter was like oh who’s the birthday boy ! Even worse...
The food wasn’t good at all..it was beyond average...and the prices were so high for nothing..overall...I would not go again...
Excellent service and ambience. Will highly recommend to everyone!!!!!
We visited this restaurant for friends reunion. The location is convenience with good harbor view. All staffs did good jobs with smiles. The dinner selection are various with joyful live music. The foods are great excepts seafood tower is a little overprice. I would visit here again.
It was a special occasion for us hosting our family from overseas. The overall restaurant is presentable and plays to the California coastal vibes but the seafood dishes missed the mark. It is pretty hard to miss the mark on a kids pizza but that happened. The food was very salty and overpowered the light flavors of the seafood.
Service was extremely slow, and we often had to make multiple attempts to find a server. Food was good, on par for the price and the views were great.
Manager Rodrigo is amazing !!!! Our server Nicolas was great as well!
Very nice birthday dinner for my wife and daughter. The food, service and ambiance was top notch.
Absolutely fantastic food, service, ambiance. The view of the water with the boats and the excellent service & quality of the food was perfect! What a perfect way to celebrate any occasion!
Poor service, slow
Foods are excellent and atmosphere was great around sunset time.
We had the ahi tuna salad and it was great. Service was great too.
A regular on my list. Great food, atmosphere, and service. Enjoy!
Third time I've been there in the last few months. It never gets old and never disappoints! I hope all the people I've introduced you to continue to come back for a special meal!
The foods was great, the service was excellent, and the view was fantastic.
From the reception to the server to the manager were all outstanding
They had everything ready for my mother’s birthday and accommodated our seating request. Service was great and we really enjoyed ourselves. Also, the chocolate dessert was amazing.
Expensive for what it is. The Brussels sprouts were not that good, the cesar salad either. Not that much ambiance. Coupd be much improved.
Very good and unique food. We like white clam chowder and Café Del Rey's was different and delicious.
I'm had brunch at Cafe del Rey several times. Who ever orders eggs Benedict always received them with the eggs overcooked. The eggs are like they are hard boiled. I have had to send them back and advised others to do so (they didn't and just left the hard yolks) Someone needs to advise the kitchen that poached eggs should not be over cooked.
Wonderful restaurant. The food is amazing and the staff are so nice and welcoming. The hostess Jen is so sweet and our server Albert was great!
Food, service, ambience, music - all of extremely high quality and no pretension either. Perfect night out with the family.
The food was delicious!!! I’m always pleasantly satisfied when I leave here. Consistently good.
Amazing I had the lamb pasta special. Our meal was perfect
A must if you’re near the Marina!
Just great experience for dinner. Came back just to bring a co-worker, and I like the food
I'm a healthy adult male and ordered the $37 scallop dinner. When it arrived, I looked around for the candid camera. On the plate were three medium scallops, no sides. They would have fit on half a graham cracker with room to spare. In order to avoid finishing my dinner in 60 seconds, I cut them in half and sang college fight songs in my head in between the six small bites.
If this would have been a $10-12 appetizer served on a teacup plate, it would have been marginally acceptable. But as a full-priced dinner, it was a joke.
I will never go to this restaurant again.
