Lagu is a very special kind of place. Easy to find, this café nestles on Lavender Hill, near Clapham Junction in Battersea. A calm and tranquil space where you can take time out from the hustle and bustle of city living. Great food and drinks are served that are not just delicious, they’re good for you; everything served and on the menu has been carefully considered and developed to provide a perfect optimal balance of nutrition and taste. But then this would be easy when you consider Lagu’s heritage.
When Atsuko Inoue opened the café’s doors, she did so inspired by her Father and Grandfather who for many years ran a hotel in Tokyo. Growing up in such an environment taught Atsuko many things about not just food but the pleasure of serving the local community. A café of her own soon became her childhood dream and Lagu is that dream realized. It’s a place to take a moment, refresh yourself and enjoy food that nourishes as well as tastes great.

Booked a table for 1pm and arrived to find the restaurant closed. It said on this website and Lagu Facebook page that the restaurant was open. Nobody bothered to contact us to tell us otherwise. A complete disappointment and wasted trip from the other side of London. No joke with a child at lunch time!

Quiet little place serving simple but quality Japanese dishes. Especially love the karaage - huge tender pieces bursting with flavours, no thick deceiving layers of batter. They unfortunately ran out of sashimi which was a shame though!

Read a few very positive instagram posts about Lagu and I have a very high expectation and look forward the visit, indeed, Lagu didn't disappoint me, I ordered the teriyaki karaage don, the deep-fried chicken (Japanese karaage) mixed with teriyaki sauce and with Japanese mayo on top. For me it's a bit salty as they have marinated the chicken so well, with extra teriyaki sauce made it a bit over-seasoned, don't get me wrong, I loved it.

My husband ordered the chicken combo curry, which has chicken karaage and Japanese curry, with soft boiled egg on top, my husband also very satisfied with his choice, I tried the original chicken karaage and it was very tasty, it was the best karaage I have tried in London!

They served the multigrain rice which got the extra marks.

I am Asian and travelled to Japan for many times, it's really authentic and delicious.
