Café L’oscar offers all the charm and sophistication of a Parisian café. A food lover’s lair, it is the go-to place for delectable breakfasts, bistro-style lunches, and intimate evening dining, or simply a late-night dessert and a soothing glass of wine.
Great venue but indifferent menu Service awful. Starter spoilt too much dressing main course bad except the chips were fantastic Dessert menu uninspired. Place looks great but expensive and very disappointing
Wonderful experience! Amazing service and atmosphere and even though it’s designed impeccably it is still comfortable, not stuffy.
Can’t wait to plan another dinner there.
Cafe’ L Oscar is a lovely place to go good service and interesting drinks but no bar snacks with them. But the food was really disappointing my friend is a vegetarian and she found the choice very uninspired a veg ratatouille veg pie and a mushroom pasta ! Our starter was good a lobster salad . Me and my husband had a cheese burger which was very plain no relish and the fries were the worse I have ever had I have no idea what oil they are fried in but they were horrible.
The best rump steak I’ve ever eaten. Incredible service. Total perfection. Highly recommend for an early dinner
I attended Cafe L'oscar for a business lunch, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food, decor and overall experience. I would highly recommend people to try it out.
We would definitely return to this venue, the food was good and the staff were lovely. We chose to eat early and therefore it was extremely quiet so would opt for a later table next time.
We had seen this place and liked the look of it so we booked and were not disappointed. The food was terrific (and the fries plentiful) and the surroundings were first rate. The staff were attentive and did everything they could to help. My partner asked for gluten-free and they went as far as ensuring the fries were done in a fryer that had not been used that day so that the oil would not have come into contact with anything else. Little things like that make a difference. We will be coming back.
What a wonderful restaurant, the food is good and the staff are brilliant.
Our meals were excellent. Garlic soup. Navarin of lamb. Cod. All highly recommended. Why the mediocre review? Bordeaux should not be served in a water goblet. Serve bottles of pricey wine in appropriate glasses and I’ll come back.
Good food but overpriced
Overall an excellent lunch; they had run out of gluten free pasta, so my preferred dish was out of bounds. Suggested they get a pack from Sainsbury's opposite, but the idea didn't impress the maitre'd. I would have been impressed if they had and guaranteed a return visit ... but there you go.
Had a great time with a group of friends, very lovely waitress and super friendly and lovely decor.
We all had the pre theatre menu which was very good value and high quality.
However, we found the least expensive wine was simply too expensive for a repeat event. With 5 of us our bill was well over £400 and our wine was £45 a bottle which is simply too expensive I feel.
I would recommend the place but stick to sparkling water. They need to offer a mid twenties bottle of white quite frankly.
A lovely little 'secret' in the centre of London - great staff, delicious food and a really fun environment. Highly recommend.
The gem of our trip. Cheers to all of the staff for their warm reception, each and every step of the way

Our party of 4 enjoyed a superb late lunch at Café L’oscar last Saturday. The decor and ambience was wonderful. The service and food were 5 star! I started with the eel, salad and ducks egg truly delicious and the fresh warm bread was gorgeous. My main, bavette steak was tender and cooked to perfection with perfect frites. My dessert of date sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I have ever tasted. We all thoroughly enjoyed everything about the place, it’s faultless and very reasonably price. We will definitely be back! Richard B
Went for a business lunch. Nice atmosphere and good service, but the food was disappointing. We both had same dish so not sure if representative of the rest of the menu and may need to go another time before have a definite opinion.
Lovely little gem in Holborn. Excellent service and delicious french onion soup. Food was good overall and the evening was definitely worth the money spent.
Had to rebook table from Thursday to Friday. The venue was extremely accommodating. The food was superb. The price was so very reasonable . The service fantastic. The ambience and decor ... well, stunning. I can’t say a bad thing about this place
Lovely place, very good food, friendly service
Very pleasant experience - quiet and refined - it was Monday lunch time! Starters excellent and main course steak albeit of inferior cut was cooked to perfection - my only criticism was that the "Frites" were rather "Rigor Mortis" !
Nice discreet hotel restaurant. The menu feels like a room service menu (cheeseburger, omelette, pasta, etc), but everything is well made and the staff are nice and attentive
From the fabulous crystal glasses and wonderful food to the beautiful service and luxurious decor this place is a real destination experience. Perfect! We’ll be back.
We booked Cafe L’Oscar fairly last minute for Christmas dinner and it absolutely blew us away. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We were welcomed and ushered in by doormen, and then since only sofa tables were currently available, were given the option to wait in the bar while a proper table came available. The bar was also beautiful, with table service, and an extensive drink menu - with some really lovely non—alcoholic options. Once a table was available, it was held for us until we’d had time to finish our drinks, and was a lovely table by a window at the edge of the restaurant.
Once at our table, service did start to suffer a little and the wait between courses was quite large, as was the wait to have our plates cleared. The food, however, was amazing. I had artichoke soup that was unbelievably creamy followed by the beef main course. The beef was a beautiful cut, and perfectly cooked to medium rare. The bread for the table was also lovely, warm and slightly salty with generous helpings of butter. The only criticism would be that we were given a ludicrously small jug of gravy, hardly enough for one person. When we asked for some more, we were then left waiting for about ten minutes before the waitress returned to say we would have to wait for the chef to make some more - in all we waited approx fifteen minutes for more gravy. Had we known it would take so long, we would have tucked in straight away rather than waiting.
Dessert was a chocolate and orange gateaux which was gorgeous and incredibly rich. We stayed for perhaps another half hour after finishing, and didn’t feel at all rushed by the staff, which was lovely. The wine menu was huge with a lot of choice, and the red we chose was wonderful. In all, it was an amazing experience and a great choice for Christmas dinner; we’re looking forward to returning another time for dinner.
We had a wonderful Christmas Day lunch. The room is beautiful. It’s opulent without being OTT and manages to combine cosy and classy. The staff were clearly enjoying themselves and had pride in making everyone happy. The food was first class. The terrine of goose and duck was a delight and the the clementine relish was amazing.
The turkey main course was exquisite and actually a revelation to us all about how good it can and should taste!
I booked last minute due to a cancelled holiday re the Gatwick disruption and thanked my lucky stars that I found such a fantastic place.
Great cafe, however some items on the menu came out very different than expected from how it was described
It was very nice, I just thought for lunch it was a bit expensive
First time at Cafe L'Oscar and presently surprised. Very sumptuous, quite affordable, excellent friendly service. The fries were a bit oily and the side salad was not great but nice Bavette and the special (sea bass) was excellent. Rather pleasant.
Booked on the night and they were accommodating. Friendly, pleasant efficient service with being intrusive. The fish was excellent having been cooked on the bone. Lovely vegetables to accompany main courses. Wine was quite expensive but this is a 5* hotel. We’d come again.
We enjoyed our staff Christmas meal here, the café is beautifully decorated. The food is good and the warm bread is particularly delicious.
The staff are not entirely on the ball and we found it odd that there was no French mustard and they tried to pass off English mustard as French.
Hidden gem and new found favourite. Fantastic staff.
Glamorous lunch spot in a new hotel. Menu was eclectic, but in a good way. Some interesting options including a burger and beef bourguignon (which was very good)
Why Dont you have a category called pleasing surroundings? That is the single most positive this place has and why I would recommend it and return.
Really good food in here, but unfortunately the service let it down. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived (even though there was hardly anyone there) so we were advised to have a drink at the bar where we were ignored for 10 mins with 2 bar staff seemingly interested in other things.
Our waitress then seemed to clock off halfway through our lunch and we didn’t really get seen to after that. I had to get up to order some coffees and grab our bill. Shame as the food was superb.
Enjoyable evening good service and great vibes. Stylish place to chill and have food.
please can you stop sending me these emails to review - i am only filling this in so you stop spamming me. please take me off your client list as i am based on South Africa. But i still did like your restaurant. just not the follow up. If every restaurant were to send me a review I would never get any work done.
Excellent experience as always - a gem in Holborn !
I’m giving 3 stars due to the lack of atmosphere in the restaurant as it was empty except for our group for most of the evening on a Saturday night. The food was very good quality though servings were a little small. Beautiful room which could have a wonderful ambiance if more people were there. Marketing is required as it seems to be too under the radar. From what we could see the adjacent grill restaurant did not have many patrons either. With 2 restaurants and the Kimpton and Rosewood hotels nearby, L’Oscar needs to establish itself as a destination not just for residents.
Good service and interesting decor. Food poor to average - my pasta ragu was very tough.
Came here for a business lunch on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. Great food and wine, well priced and really good service. Will definitely go back!
Went for a business lunch. The staff and service was very good and the venue itself is fabulous. Although the menu in Cafe l'Oscar is limited and on the pricey side (hence the 4 stars for value), it has a good all-round choice, I recommend the Veal Ragu Pappardelle. The food was very tasty and immaculately presented.
