My steak was overcooked. They did offer a free desert. However, it was rock hard as it was frozen. Very nice setting but its a shame about the food.
Style is French neighbourhood brasserie - on Shaftesbury Av. Excellent pre theatre dining with friendly and super fast staff. Ask for a table upstairs so that you can watch the mixologists in action below - theatre in itself. Some small shortcuts to presumably ensure fast service - Nicoise salad elements were all very chilled and obviously straight from the fridge, lemon tart was over large and heavy on the pastry. All that said, we had good simple tasty food pleasantly served and well priced for tourist central in London.
A great find for the area, the food was good and not too expensive (TdH with 2/3 course options), and the choice of wines and cocktails complimented it well. The décor is very Parisian brassiere, giving the whole place a feel of sumptuousness, without the expense of more 'upmarket' places such as Zedel. And it's location makes it perfect for pre or after theatre eating.
Lovely designed bistrot in the very heart of London (2min from Picadilly) with great atmosphere, selected menu with fish and meat plates at reasonable price. Food was good and service kind and fast. Cocktails seemed great too. Recommended!
We've been eating at Café Monico since it opened and the consistency of great food and service remains just as good as it did on it's first day.
We tend to go on a Sunday because of their Sunday roast dinners - they are delicious, especially the roast beef - it's the best Sunday roast in London! Cocktails are always good too, as is the wine selection. Highly recommend to anyone who loves great food and great service
We had Sunday lunch which was fabulous. the portion size was just right, the quality of the food was really very good indeed. Service was quick and efficient. Will certainly be going back next time we're in London. 10/10 from us for such a great meal.
Despite the great decor and good atmosphere, the food was really bland and quite disappointing. There are so many restaurants in London that serve delicious food without it necessarily being super expensive, that this restaurant really pales in comparison.
Usually love Cafe Monico, but didn't realise that there was live music on Tuesday which made conversation difficult. We were seated upstairs because we wanted some quiet, but unfortunately service up there was very slow. Also, the mussels (usually yummy) were overcooked and shriveled. So, avoid on Tuesdays!
Perfect service, glorious location, and amazing food. Even the iced tea was exquisite!
Great fold great service, would recommend if you’re seeking a play in west end
I have eaten at Cafe Monaco many timns and have always had a good meal. This time three of us had the duck which was simply inedible and we all sent it back. The quality of all the other food was fair and certainly not as good as previous times. A great shame since the waitress who looked after us was first class and I have always loved the design and feel of the place. Wont be going back for a while - London is awash with some very good restaurants to choose from so please cafe Monaco get your mojo back.
Love this place. beautiful bar, a great restaurant and excellent food Really recommend Café Monico.
The menu was rather uninspiring and when we ordered minestrone, what came out was a tomato base with fairly disappointing veggies - almost like from a can! The sea bass was ok, but was too oily for my liking. The bread basket wasn’t fresh bread... but the ambience is nice and the restaurant is in a good area, although I recall it being tastier the first time I went when it first opened.
Very nice ambient and friendly staff. And fairly good quality of the food for a very good price. I will definitely go again
Our first time to dine. Very pleased with the food, service, price and ambiance. Had a table upstairs which was good and less noisy. The only serious complaint was the terrible state of the toilets.
18 th July
Came last year when we went to the theatre and liked it so much, booked for four this year. Just as good
Our waitress was lovely. We sat upstairs and the food was reasonably priced for the quality. Wine was nice also. Would definitely come again and recommend.
Food lacked flavour and was very dry. Had 2 starters and 2 mains and it was all very poor! However, the service was excellent.
Had a great price of sea bass with spinach and some bread. Perfectly cooked. Perfect portion. Great staff. Very good choice for a night at the theatre. It’s location is ideal for many theatres.
Attractive but loud atmosphere. Some dishes were quite tasty but my steak was delivered cool and tough as shoe leather. Very indifferent server. At one point she disappeared for 45 minutes. There are much better dining experiences than this available, especially in this area of London
We chose Cafe Monaco because we needed a restaurant close to the Picaddily Theatre and somewhere that would serve meals at times convenient for an evening performance. The restaurant is attractive and has a first floor giving street views and people watching opportunities which are always fun.
The service was prompt, friendly and very efficient and the food was delicious. I had sea bass which was cooked to perfection.
On Tuesdays there is live music which made me sorry we were going to the theatre!
Early diners are given a 2hr slot so we didn't feel rushed.
I would recommend this restaurant for all occassions, last year we organised a birthday lunch for 24 people and the staff coped really well with the demands of all ages.
A lovely restaurant with a good menu. The food ordered was all lovely, you can choose small plates to share or larger plates. Staff were friendly and attentive and quality of dishes was great. The cocktail list is also worth a mention!
Nice place, but unfortunately very poor food. Price-quality not in sync.
One of the best Sunday Roasts I've ever had - simply delicious!
We had given Cafe Monico a miss as our last visit was poor and we came away with bad experience. This time it felt like normal service has been resumed which is good news. We went on a Saturday night and were surprised to find the upstairs dining room fairly quiet although the bar downstairs was busy - may be Pride weekend and a very busy Soho put people off. Food overall was average to good and service was very friendly and relaxed. The damage was £300 for 4 including service though £150 of this was for drinks. Well we were celebrating 50 years since Stonewall. Having enjoyed ourselves on this occasion we hope to go again soon.
couldn't fault anything, excellent food, my gin was to die for, excellent staff and service. Can't wait to go again
Very nice atmosphere, perfect location if you’re going to the theatre after or before. Lovely staff and food was good too
The friendly staff were very helpful, and had good knowledge of the menu and ingredients. The choice was not huge, but the beef bourguignon was so tender it just melted in my mouth; the linguini with crab and chilli was succulent; and the pappardelle with lamb ragu was rich and generous. An evening enjoyed!
Service was atrocious and even worse when we went back thinking it was a one off. Why take the wine away from the table if we then have to get up and get it ourselves ?
Great food and service. Everything was so fresh. It was a change to have Indian food tapas style
Ambiance and location were great, waiters and service were very good but food menu was disappointing and I did not enjoy much of my thin fish. Main courses menu should be updated and added more choice. Thanks
Hi. thank you so much for your valuable feedback. We are looking at a seasonal change of the menu shortly. we hope to see you soon
Pleasant environment and good value for money despite it being dead centre of Piccadilly Circus. Lovely staff
Hi. thanks so much for your comments, we hope to see you soon
Returned to Cafe Monica for a second visit in i three years. It was a very nice visit 3 yrs ago and our 2019 visited not disappoint.
Service, food and ambience were all top class.
Set menu for £17 two course was lovely. My wife ordered from the main menu and was very pleased.
Would highly recommend
Hi Desmond thank you so much for your wonderful comments. So lovely to read that you enjoyed your visit so much after all this time, we hope it wont be so long until we see you again
A very good pre show dinner venue right on Shaftberry Avenue next door to the Queens Theatre. Good service and while the food was not exceptional it was very good at the price.
Would be happy to recommend it
Thank you for your kind words
FAntastic service! Delicious cocktails. Tasty food, perfect set menu for pre-theatre dining in a throwback setting.
Wow thanks Jade, glad you enjoyed. Our team will be delighted to read this
Perfect location for dinner after the theatre. Warm, friendly and helpful staff.
Food was delicious and great value from the set menu. Only negative - no paper towels in the bathroom.
Definitely recommend and will go again.
Thank you for your feedback, we will ensure to check the toilets more regularly. We look forward to seeing you soon
We arrived early but that was no problem. Service was excellent, quick as required but not intrusive and this was much appreciated. The food was very good, well seasoned and lots of taste, plus the portions were more than adequate. It’s not cheap by any means but we felt the whole ambience, service, and food was well worth the treat to complement the theatre visit next door.
Anne this feedback makes us very happy. Amazing food, service and atmosphere are key for us. Hope to see you soon
I have been a few times. Everything is good but the killer for me is the portion sizes. The portion size are small. They were even smaller last time I went. And to make it worse, one person got a steak portion that was half the size of another portion. It was tiny. So although the location/ambience/service were good, it was extremely poor value for money because it is not cheap. I felt like a tourist being ripped off.
Great place to eat. Friendly, great ambience, and great food.
We had a table upstairs by the window so we had a great view of Shaftesbury Avenue and China Town.
The food arrived quickly and was delicious.
I would highly recommend this place and will definitely go back.
Thanks so much Mo, great to read. See you soon we hope
