Really enjoyed our pre theatre meal at Cafe Monico. Very good service and tasty food at a good price. Will definitely return.
Sadly not a very good experience.
Hair in dessert
Should have been very busy being right next door to Geilgud but now I know why
Varied food and drink menu, great service from very pleasant staff. Food arrived timely which was important as we were time restricted due to show tickets. Would definitely recommend.
The place has always very good ambience and overall experience.
We love it here. Very comfortable, white table cloths and silver service. Charming staff and excellent food. It is also right near Piccadilly Circus so very handy for cinemas and theatres.
Disappointed in Menu Choice-
Starter's were very poor
Main Meals; cheese burger overcooked
ordered sirloin steak- convinced this was a poor quality piece of rump
Overall-poor quality for the price paid- London I guess-
Love this place! Anytime I visit to London I
Loved it - will definitely be back for more Monico Martini’s!
Lovely ambience of with 1920s vibes and low lighting. Service appeared rushed and understaffed but still kept a smile on their faces! May have been an off day. Overall, very nice place or an evening meal
Average food, average service, beautiful setting
Cafe Monico is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely up-market Titanic-feel in a busy tourist street. However, on our visit, the service was somewhat chaotic (we had to wait around for 10 minutes for someone to greet us on arrival, flag down the waiters to give our order, get a dessert menu and pay the bill and at one point a member of staff dropped some plates and then we could hear arguing coming from the service station). The toilets were also not well maintained, no toilet roll etc. Food was okay, unfortunately it wasn't piping hot. Overall, I wouldn't go again.
So nicely situated between two theatres, it's a must for that part of Shaftesbury Avenue. Excellent menu choices.
We found Cafe monico friendly and very welcoming. Atmosphere was very good with the staff extremely helpful. Food was good value for money and would definitely go back.
Been here before but will not be going back as food quality was poor and badly cooked
Not impressed this time sadly
amazing food, lovely Service and really nice atmosphere - great for a date night!
Perfect location for pre theatre supper and good service and very enjoyable venue.
Yes had a great time brilliant service and good apart from deserts lemon tart was watery and lacking in lemon and I think they forgot to add any sweetener to the cheesecake so very plain they refunded lemon tart. Creme brûlée excellent and all mains and starters fantastic. Would return.
Food was ok, but the service was very rushed and a little rude. The waitress barely spoke.
This is my second visit to café Monico one of the main courses that we ordered sadly they did not have so we had to rethink ..our table was not the best for six people we were slightly stuck in an uncomfortable corner with a pillar behind us
the lighting was not great and due to short staff we didn’t have the best service this time round however I do realise they were short staffed... it would not put me off coming again :)
very convenient to theatre land. we made a pre-book reservation and were offered either upstairs or grond level. Staff were helpful but not overpowering. a positive and friendly atmosphere
Nice place, lovely interiors and friendly staff. My steak was incredibly tough so a little disappointing but overall a nice experience.
The food was excellent and the service was great. We did not feel rushed to finish our meals as is often the case in pre-theatre lunch.
Variety and quality- would recommend any time
Fabulous. The food, the staff and the ambience were all really lovely. White cotton tablecloths and napkins made a real difference. A lovely experience before the fantastic Les Mis concert next door at the Gielgud. We'll be back and will highly recommend you to our friends and family!
we had incorrect wine served; the waiter tried to make amends offering deserts but we also had to pay for these so the consideration wasn't really appropriate
Very convenient for a pre theatre dinner. Prompt service and good food, value for money ok given location
Gorgeous meal (sea bass) and attentive, unobtrusive service made for an enjoyable pre-theatre dinner. Lovely, relaxing ambience - highly recommended!
Good as ever
Unfortunately I think this place has had it’s time. I’ve been eating here for many years and have to say this last experience was underwhelming to say the least. The food is overpriced and decidedly average. I won’t fault the staff as they always do their best but if you’re going to spend this sort of money I’d go somewhere else.
It was a lovely venue. The food was good but portion sizing was small. We also didn't both receive our food at the same time which was poor. The caramelized sugar on the creme brulee was also partly burnt. The staff were friendly which was a bonus
The place itself is nice and well kept, the food is mediocre.
I've eaten here before and enjoyed it, but unfortunately on this occasion was left disappointed. My asparagus hollandaise starter was very tasty but the sauce was quite congealed. And the chicken, bacon, avocado and parmesan salad was very unappetising. Dumped on a small plate (visually unappealing) with brown avocado, chewy croutons and also an egg, which we weren't expecting (but no problem). Dressing wasn't mentioned on the menu, but seemed to be a Caesar dressing which just made everything taste fishy. The lettuce was very fresh and tasty though. We tried to enjoy it, but in the end decided to leave the salads and mentioned how disappointed we were to the waiter, who then got the Manageress, who then almost told us off for not having let them know sooner?! She was very defensive, but did take the salads off the bill. A real shame, as this is a lovely place with a nice atmosphere - and so perfect when going to the theatres either side.
We chose Café Monico for a bit of dinner and a catch up. I have to say that it is very good value and it isn't very often that you can get two courses and a carafe of wine and a cocktail for under £40. It is a good, steady and dependable place and I hope it does well.
The setting, atmosphere and ambiance are superb. From one side of our table was the beautiful interior which has a traditional, turn-of-the-century sophistication and is very welcoming. To the other side was massive windows on the front of the restaurant looking out over Shaftesbury Avenue making it a perfect place to people watch from and soak in the city vibes.
The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, just a perfect balance.
As for the food it was enjoyable with no specific criticisms of the courses themselves. I personally found it just fell shy of expectations and did not meet the same standards set by the sophisticated, chic surroundings.
Great location for theatre. Good pre-theatre menu and well priced. Excellent service
Amazing service and food. We were having a reunion of girls from school and hadn’t seen each other in 25 years. Thanks for a great experience
The service was very good and the food was lovely. An ideal place to eat for a pre theatre meal.
After being recommended by a friend i can honestly say I have never been so disappointed. A long wait for food when the restaurant wasn’t busy, when the food did arrive the presentation was nothing short of embarrassing, small plain dishes, no thought for presentation, followed by a taste of pure blandness. Service wasn’t much better, I’m sure the staff were playing hide and seek! I will never recommend or visit again. Massive disappointment.
Had a pre-theatre dinner before heading next door to the Gielgud Theatre. NIce atmosphere. Had the set menu (3 courses for £21) which we thoroughly enjoyed.
A lovely cafe with great atmosphere however the food is rather average. We had the al a carte rather than the pre-theatre menu. Beef bourguignon was a really a beef stew, no sign of onions, lardons or mushrooms. Salted caramel chocolate truffles were very rich which was lovely however they arrived at the table still frozen. The meal wasn't expensive so I suppose we got what we paid for. In short, the food seemed to have been cooked without love.
Superb location on Shaftesbury Avenue, booked this for wedding anniversary meal, we were seated upstairs at window seat which was great, ervice and ambiance all good. The food was good although desert was a little disappointing.
This is a really good pre or post theatre place. Food has some decent choices and is well priced for central London. Bright inside and great sitting upstairs. Service was quite good, busy and so did have to chase the bill, but then it was, as I mentioned busy and we weren't in a total rush. We arrived earlier than expected, but were seated and stayed a long time and were not asked to leave the table, which is a big thing towards my positive view on service overall and atmosphere. I would go again, decent food and drinks, atmosphere and service, against a lot of quick in and out chains or overly expensive, hyped restaurants in theatreland.
