Lovely ambiance in a convenient location. It's also pretty big, so a group of us ended up here on a busy pre Christmas Friday night when lots of other places had hours wait. Pretty standard menu, but a bit of something for everyone and enjoyed my rump steak and frites. It's very attractive, and can imagine being perfect for pre-theatre.
Heerlijk gegeten in een super mooie ambiance en fijne sfeer. Prijs kwaliteit is goed.
Excellent place for dinner. The Crab linguine was delicious!
The most attentive service ever, such a lovely evening.
Selected from the Prixe Fix Menu. Enjoyed meal in a lovely setting.
Excellent service and food and a great central location, will definitely come again
Buen equilibrio entre localización, diseño y ambiente, calidad de la comida y precio, servicio e higiene. Recomendable.
Food was cold. Steak was very chewy and didn't manage to eat it.
The service was also terrible, took so long to serve us - didn't refill the wine or water, despite us asking multiple times. The poor waiter actually offered to pay our bill because he knew it has been bad (we obviously didn't let him do that!)
Second consecutive night visiting Cafe Monico fur pre-theatre dinner. Food just as good as previous night, service & ambience ‘stretched’ by private Xmas function upstairs but still a great restaurant. This is now going to be our regular ore-theatre dinner venue!
Great lunch venue - lovely food, lovely service. Nice bustle, but quiet enough to talk.
Great value pre theatre menu, will be my go to. Classic brasserie food, nice staff.
Waiter upstairs was fantastic, great place been several times before , we had the fixed lunch which was ok, my friend had the steak which he said was great but the fish I had was a bit measly unfortunately, no fish and all batter, come on cafe Monico you can do better than that!!
From the warm welcome you receive when you first walk in to the final steps you take when you leave the hospitality here is first class. From the jazz music playing in the background to the table service I just can't recommend Cafe Monico enough to anyone visiting London. The quality and value of the food is exceptional. The drinks are all very inexpensive for the standard and quality you receive. Third time we have visited and won't be the last.
go for fix price pre theatre menu better value and good choice
Good food, great atmosphere, excellent service. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Beautiful and intimate!
Great experience. The team was welcoming and friendly. We eve got some welcome champagne.
I went here with a friend for dinner, the girl on the front desk was very vacant she could barely say hello. We stood there waiting and she asked her colleague to look after us. They went to see if our table was ready and then two mins later the girl said hello to us as if we had just arrived it was very odd. The wait for anything took so long! Our drinks arrived after we had finished our starter and our pudding took over 45 minutes to arrive and we had to ask two different waiters where it was. My friend ordered 3 truffles on a plate and mine was a tiny cheesecake. There seemed to be a lot of customers complaining. It’s a shame as the venue is great and the food is too, but it was such sloppy service I just couldn’t cope going again.
Love the upstairs tables overlooking the bar below. Beef bourguinon was incredibly tender, just fell apart.
Excellent food, great service and friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere.
Probably the smallest portion of fish and chips I’ve ever had. The restaurant was busy, very hot and we had to shout to be heard. Avoid the theatre specials as they are very poor value.
Great food, great service, whats not to like. Right in the middle of Piccadilly so close to all the theatres.
We went for a pre-theatre dinner
Portion size on Pre-Fixe menu seemed smaller than a la carte
Background music so loud that had to ask for it to be turned done so we could actually speak with each other
Was given table at the back of restaurant on ground floor which seemed pleasant at first but part way through meal realised it had a prime view of the disabled toilet when one of the employees went it to use the sink but did not shut the door !
Great pre show venue. Good food and good value. Attentive friendly staff.
A very enjoyable pre-theatre dinner. The food was good value and very tasty.
Good ambiance and our table upstairs had great views over Shaftesbury Avenue.
Prix fixé menu was exceptional value.
Great friendly and efficient service.
Would recommend to anyone looking for a pre-theatre meal, as it is accessible to many theatres in the area.
Comfortable atmosphere, and would return again.
Very convenient for Shaftesbury Avenue theatres. Good atmosphere, although lighting a bit dim for reading very small print menu. Could do with a bit more variety of vegetarian
Horrible service - we were given dirty plates, not enough forks (and they took long to arrive), and then it took 30mins after we finished for the plates to be cleared. Won’t come again.
The food was a real let down, the evening was saved by our delightful waiter.
An antipasto of croquettes was well executed - but the skill seemed to end there. The plate of prosciutto was a heaped mess, and weirdly salty. More frenzied salt was unleashed on the calamari. And I usually add salt. Not tonight.
Mains were left unfinished- the absolute crime was the squishy, tepid french fries. At a bistro, this should be something that is churned out excellently without even thinking.
It’s a buzzy place, must have been the hen party whose main attention was not the food. Sadly our food could not escape our attention, much as we tried to ignore it.
I would recommend if a meal was required close to West End theatres, and prices reasonable for such a location
Shame about static trailer outside window, where we were seated
Great location for the Gielgud Theatre. Friendly and efficient staff. Food was lovely and not too expensive considering where we were. Would go again
Lovely atmosphere, great staff, background music very pleasant and the food and wine perfect would definitely go again
Cafe Monico is a relaxed cosy bistro, the food was delicious and very good value on the prix fixe menu. Our waiter was charming and efficient. I would recommend.
Get there well in time for pre-show dinner as it gets really busy and can be a bit slow. Otherwise a fabulous meal and will go again.
We took the set meal as a pre-theatre meal, and this was good value for money. However, the peas served with the fish and chips were cold - I mean actually fridge cold, not just 'cooled down a bit'. In fairness, they offered us a free dessert or coffee, which was very fair. So we can't complain, but can't give 5 stars either. Service was very good, and we didn't wait very long for any course. Choice was reasonable with meat fish or veggie mains. Burrata was delicious though personally I didn't think the tapenade with it made for a good combination - too acidic. Think the chef needs to think this one through. Desserts were lovely, though.
The atmosphere was a bit off-hand, the service was OK but the food not value for money. Sorry. Also the waitress hung my coat up so badly it fell to the floor of the cupboard and when I put it on it didn’t smell very nice - and it was a new coat!
The size portions we were served, fish and chips were very small. We have dined at Cafe Monaco a few times are we were very disappointed with the main meal portion. The pea purée was a dessert spoon and they were cold. Previously they had been served in a small pot, but on requested they were heated
We came for the ambience and the food. The ambience is really pretty and nice for a romantic dinner with your partner or a place to catch up with friends.
The service is really good and the waiting time for food and drinks were fine for a wednesday night.
We had parsnip soup, burrata for starters which were really tasty.
For mains we had the beef bourguignon which was fantastic! The meat was soft and tender, everything was perfect. The Chicken poulet however was average and slightly dry, although my husband said he dont see how it could have been better.
We had the upside down pineapple cake with ginger sorbet for dessert. Do not order this cake. It is the driest cake I've ever eaten and it costs £7. Anything from the supermarket is better than this.
Overall, it was great.
Great location, great atmosphere fab service had a really nice evening
Our previous visits had been good but this one very different. They seemed really understaffed and service was very slow. We were there pre theatre so time limited and it took 30 mins for starters of pate to arrive. Then our steaks came and one was stone cold. The waiters had all disappeared so I had to walk round the restaurant to find someone to complain to. Overall really poor
Food could have been more generous ans desserts were awful. Resturant atmosphere was good though and price was reasonable for location.
