Cafe Monico Ratings and Reviews
For a large (but at the same time intimate) restaurant in the the heart of the West End we can hardly think of a better restaurant to eat out with a young family (3 boys aged 9 and a set of twins at 5). Everybody in our group enjoyed the atmosphere of an early dinner on a Saturday night that at 5.30pm already had a vibrant buzz. We got the impression our nearby neighbours were at ease too as the staff and especially our server (a lovely lady - I wish we asked for her name so we can give her the due props in this review!) made us all feel welcome with the most relaxed attention we could possibly ask for. The food for the price is exceptional and puts to shame the offering of a competing French brasserie chain in terms of menu choice, ingredient quality & (not shy!) portions and cooking execution. The chips are absolutely the best and both adults and kids were wowed by them - miles better than those found in more premium restaurants that boast of their fine (but not as good) chips. The mussels the adults and kids had on Saturday 13th January were the plumpest we've had in a long while and cooked to perfection where the Marinières sauce was almost delicious as a standalone soup that wasn't stormtrooper salty as they invariably are in those premium restaurants mentioned before. One point we'd like to make is the menu could do with some daily specials to riff the otherwise faultless fixed price menus. Looking forward to seeing (and eating!) something new and delicious on our next en famille visit!
Pre theatre dinner- good menu and excellent service, even given that this was a busy, time tight slot and the place couldn’t have been busier. A French/Parisian vibe going on. Lovely ambience and great for just sitting and people watching. Friendly, relaxed and very pleasant meal .
Due to train delay we arrived late for our reservation but staff were friendly and understanding, the atmosphere was buzzing in both the bar and restaurant. Menu varied and competitively priced, staff were helpful and attentive, food was excellent, good choice of wines and spirits, would definitely come here again.
The service are always so friendly and welcoming! Love this place, it has such a grand elegant style upstairs and yet so comfortable. I ordered the crab ravioli which was delightful and plenty, managed to squeeze in a cheeky dessert which was the pumpkin dessert type which I’ve forgotten what it was called. Again so yummy! Definitely will return here again and again.....
When we arrived it was packed straight into pre-theatre scheduling and staff was a bit all around so service was a bit slow. But food was excellent and a very charismatic manager solved all our problems . Good food, good wine and good ambience we had a great time . Becoming more and more a regular .
