Wonderful pre theatre meal. Fantastic setting and lovely menu.
Great atmosphere , friendly staff and good food - will go again
What a great evening, great food, Great ambience can't wait to visit again.
Lovely restaurant with a nice atosphere, in the heart of theatre land, next door to The Geilgud Theatre. Nice menu, delicious food and a reasonable wine list. Service was pleasant but lacked the urgency for pre- theatre goers, something that could be easily remedied by briefing staff. The Lamb Cutlets were sublime and the Chicken Cacciatore was really good. No time for desert, sadly. We would return another time for a more relaxed diner. Thank you Cafe Monico.
Feel more in love as the date went forward. The soft music in the background and the beautiful lighting made me gush as I looked my date in the eye. Perfect place for a date.
Fantastic setting, great ambience, perfect for a date, food was fantastic and staff were very friendly!
We originally booked a table for 4 on Saturday 10th March for our daughters birthday after visiting the theatre next door. Our other daughter and partner surprised us and turned up unexpectedly at the restaurant and wanted to join us. The staff were very helpful and although they were quite busy found us another table to accommodate 6 people. They did this without any fuss and we were all very appreciative of this. Thank you very much for making it a good occasion. Would highly recommend.
Came here for pre-theatre dinner. The staff were attentive and welcoming. The food was fantastic and we found the prices to be fair for this area of London. My partner had the steak, which was cooked perfectly and the fries were so tasty! I had the Skate wing, beautifully cooked and a great portion. Desserts were just as good, the tarte au citron was the best I've had, the pastry melted in the mouth. We would definitely return!
Huge disappointment. Wish I’d gone to the lovely Sartoria instead.
Good atmosphere but quite noisy so good they have only small tables and you have a chance to hear each other. Nice French food on a simple brasserie menu, would have been nice to see some specials.
Third time we've been here & each time the food & service have been very good.
Lovely food, great service, comfy seats and wonderful music. Lighting is always is important to me and here it was perfect! Gentle and flattering. What a great find in such a central location.
Warm, polite greeting, excellent service, good food, very convenient to the Shaftesbury Avenue theaters. I would definitely return.
First impressions are great - the host was very welcoming and after taking our coats took us direct to our table which was upstairs. The food was also lovely - I had the sea bass and it was very nice. I hate to say it however but this venue is let down by the service. We were asked if we wanted water very quickly but then had to wait ages for the waiter to come back and take our order. Added to that the waiter wasn’t able to explain one of the dishes on the menu and even after checking still didn’t give decent enough description. We then waited quite some time after ordering for the food to arrive. Give that this venue will be used a lot during the week for business meetings it’s not ideal. Would I go back? Yes, but I do hope that the service improves!
Lovely restaurant with lovely ambiance and atmosphere. Staff always friendly and knowledable and food great. Would highly recommend and will certainly return on next visit to London.
Booked cafe monico for a meal between parts 1 and 2 of The Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre
Location is perfect less than five minutes walk
We were given a lovely table upstairs by the window
Our server Adrian (a lady) was friendly informative about the menu , attentive but not intrusive.
Everything from the pre dinner cocktail to the post dinner Espresso was perfect.
I will definitely be recommending cafe monico to all my friends and business colleagues
Thank you Adrian and all the staff for a wonderful experience
Nothing really worked well on Wednesday at all ! drinks order had to ask 2 times then waitress spills the red wine as not pouring correctly as if it was coke a cola ...Main course was cold sent back
Cafe Monaco offers great value, lots of options to suit all tastes and quality of food isn’t high. This time we were let down a little by the service, but it wouldnt stop me going back.
The food was outstanding-best oxtail ragu I've ever had! The table service was exemplary, your glass never empty, plates never staying longer than required and we were always looked after in a happy but very professional manner. The ambiance was great!
Great place, friendly env, staff was amazing. good food and great value for money.
booked for dinner pre theatre. excellent location for theatre. lovely ambience and food was tasty.
menu is quite limited and no specials. you have to order sides as most mains come with no veg or rice/potatoes. chicken cacciatore without rice is not a dish as far as I am concerned.
ordered house salad £4.25 was a bowl of lettuce some onion and 2 small tomatoes. thought the sides were expensive and could be improved.
A nice spicy Bloody Mary started off an excellent lunch with wonderful food and wines.
Great ambiance, table at window over looking street. Good menu , unfussy, food arrived promptly and we made it to the theatre on time. Great find especially if you are off to Les Mis next door !
From great welcoming receptionist to poor service. When we arrived lady at a reception was super friendly, I have to say she made our day, offered a drink before we went to the table. When we sit down at the table our waitress came after 10 minutes asking are we ready to order... no other drinks has been offered and not even a single smile. Honestly I think it wasn’t her best day... or maybe in general she is not smiling at all. Well starters came immediately, then steak to share that we ordered came cold... when I’ve pointed it out to our waitress she asked me, so what do you want me to do with it? I was speechless. I’ve said it’s just warm, closer to cold than it come from the grill. She took it away and then manager came with heated meat to our table, it was good. I felt miss treated in a way because of the waitress.
Lovely food , lovely cosy warm decor , very attentive staff
A great experience
Food was poor. I had calamari which tasted terrible, greasy, the oily taste was horrible. The ravioli was thick and tasteless. And not hot. Food does not seem to be a priority at Cafe Monico. The negroni was great.
Fabulous for a pre theatre dinner. The starter was a little expensive for a small portion, but the main courses were generous and we couldn't manage dessert. Everything was delicious. Service was excellent, water topped up, wine poured, coats taken etc. Highly recommended.
We found this place by accident and after visiting many of the restaurants on offer this is still our favourite. Has an amazing feel and buzz, yet still very romantic with an incredible ambience.
Great place, can't believe have never been here before. Lovely setting and so central. Good menu but slightly over priced and nothing special but better than lots of other tourist places.
We had an excellent meal from the £25 for 2 courses menu with a free glass of prosecco. Good choice and decent portions of really good tasty food. All staff were very welcoming and courteous. Overall highly recommended.
Great food. Live music was a surprise and added energy. I recommend tables upstairs.
Cafe Monico has a a lovely buzzing atmosphere and an upmarket feel at a very reasonable price. The food was very good and the service was friendly and very efficient, but also unrushed considering it was a very busy Saturday evening. It is perfect for post or pre theatre dining. This is my second visit and I will definitely back.
Staff very friendly and welcoming on arrival and shown straight to seat. Had to send back pot of tea as arrived luke warm. Coffee similarly cold and had to send back - on second attempt still not much better and waitress deducted from bill. Just a personal preference but can never understand why restaurants sometimes provide coffee in what looks like a tooth-glass rather than in a cup??? Restaurant is ideally placed for nearby theatres. Menu is rather limited. Food ok - partner enjoyed stuffed aubergine - chicken cacciatora adequate but not outstanding. Nice tables seated upstairs overlooking bar created a pleasant atmosphere, restaurant area clean and warm but let down when visited poorly kept toilet facilities: wet floor and littered with paper - Ugghh! - ever thought of doing an hourly check and clean? Would probably revisit Café Monico if nothing else available but likely to choose a different restaurant next time.
The best restaurant in London for casual dining. We went on a Friday and its buzzy. Great food, great service.
Food was excellent and service was also of the same standard. Particularly enjoyed the ambience and aesthetic elements of the restaurant...very nostalgic circa 1920s. All in all fantastic experience and will definitely go again.
Cafe Monico has fast become our go-to pretheatre destination. Good food. Great atmosphere and quick, attentive service. Always a treat.
We arrived at cafe monico, for pre theatre tea, and all 6 of us had the burger lol.
It was the best burger i have had in long time! Let me tell you.
We enjoyed a great bottle of Chianti with it, probobly not the norm for a burger i know, but that too was lovely.
The cafe was clean, had a lovely atmosphere, we sat up stairs and looked over the balcony.
The American waiter was very good, polite, proffessional, and a good laugh.
We loved it, and when we return to London, we will not hesitate in returning.
Great food, Great Vibe and lovely staff. A classy place without all the fuss.
Excellent atmosphere, efficient and friendly staff who are highly professional with great service skills, and food is wonderful/
