Good food and service
Absolutely fantastic. Had dinner before the theatre and was not disappointed so will definitely go back again.
I went with my partner on Saturday evening before a visit to the theatre. We had forgotten to print our tickets which the restaurant happily accommodated and had ready before we even arrived at our table! They made no fuss of this request, it was no inconvenience to them. The vibe is romantic and cultural, it’s a beautiful setting. The food was incredible and surprisingly low priced for the quality and choice. Our waitress was lovely and chatty, and when told we needed to leave quickly for the theatre she had our receipt and card machine on the table in no more than 30 seconds. I am really so impressed with this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone.
Pre show lunch. Reasonably priced and good quality.
Having been before and enjoyed it I was really disappointed with this visit. The waiting team did began by apologising for the fact they were understaffed. We didn’t receive menus until about 20 minutes after being seated and on ordering drinks these took just as long to arrive (bear in mind there were only 2 of us and one was on water). We eventually ordered a starter to share and 2 mains. We probably waited 45 minutes for the starter (burrata) and the same again for our mains. The moules wasn’t as good as expected. However the worst part of the evening was sitting next to a bar where all the waiting staff were having their dinners whilst not being served ours! I don’t think staff should be eating next to customers anyway (I have worked in many restaurants and find this practice strange) but certainly not when the same people were apologising to us for not yet having our meals whilst sitting next to us eating theirs. All in all it took 3 hours to be seated, served (3 dishes and 2 drinks) and pay. Towards the end of the meal a glass of wine was presented as compensation for the wait time but by that time I didn’t want to drink it so would have preferred the wine I had ordered to be taken off the bill. Real shame they didn’t have their act together on a Friday night!
We had a wonderful experience at Cafe Monico. The venue is amazing and is like stepping back into the 1920s, the staff made the dinner extra special for my mother's 60th birthday and everyone said happy birthday to her, even when we were leaving the restaurant. The food was great, we had the set menu and it was really good value for money. They had lovely cocktails and also had seedlip drinks for those who didn't want to drink alcohol.
Absolutely fabulous meal. Food was perfect. Prawn cocktail was especially good. Really really good and attentive waitress
First time and a pleasant surprise. Good food, good value and great environment
Great location in the heart of theatre land. Main courses were good but not outstanding, portion sizes were fair but nothing special. Desserts were poor, one tiny scoop of ice-cream and Tiramisu which was mostly cream and custard. Value for money average.
We visited this restaurant around 18 months ago, which was the main reason for the repeat custom. sadly, the standards have slipped. Service was good but the food and overall value for money just average.
Lovely staff, good food and good value for the West End
Had a lovely meal. Waiting service was not very attentive. We were left for ages without water and no one came over to check if we wanted more drinks.
Great table as requested
Lovely front of house staff. Very friendly
I am visiting London for business very often, at least three times a month. Organizing always business dinners with colleagues and partners. This was one of the worse experiences we ever had.
We arrived half hour earlier than our reservation time, waiting at the bar for our table... drinks arrived just half hour later, when we finally got our table.
After the starter, that arrived fast, we needed to wait more than ONE HOUR for our main meal. Nobody was even looking at us. We thought waiters abandoned the restaurant. The meal was finally ordered just after our multiple complaints.
After this experience the manager promised that he'll remove desert from the bill.
We were hoping in quick dinner service, and needed to stay there for THREE HOURS. In all that time, we didn't receive (we were not asked) even one re-fill for our drinks. Nobody cared, even if we've finished our drinks during first hour.
At the end, the bill arrived completely wrong, with desert included. After another complaint, they've removed the desert and added drinks (that were wrongly missing in the first bill), resulting in even higher amount.
This was one of restaurants that was promising a lot, and delivered worse experience we ever had in London for years.
I met a friend here on a Tuesday evening at 6pm and although the service at the door was efficient and friendly, it went downhill from there. Service was so slow and I actually had to get up more than once to get a waiter! I noticed a table that had been vacated and not cleared and they really were not that busy. We ate from the set menu. Salty prawn cocktail (but quite generous on the prawns), very tough steak and luke-warm chips.. I wont be going back.
Great food, nice atmosphere, service truly appalling. Waited a long time to be served, forgot our order for wine and water. Despite not getting the wine it was still added to the bill. No cutlery, then had to wait whilst food getting cold and then needed reminding twice to bring a fork. A great shame as food was excellent. Won't be going again.
Buzzy atmosphere and a great dining room. However, food was so/so, and the service was pretty hit and miss. Unlikely that we will return any time soon.
The staff were excellent from the moment we entered, couldn't do enough for us. The lady who ran the reservations, the man that led us to our chairs at the bar for a cocktail beforehand and our waited who was very attentive with no pressure. This is a fabulous restaurant, the food was gorgeous.
This could be a great place in the heart of theatre land. The service could be slowed down slightly - our mains were ready to serve and were left to stand on the pass because we hadn't quite finished our starters. They actually tried to serve the mains whilst a member of our party was still finishing her soup. The steak was a little tough. I would probably go again because of its convenience to the theatres.
Got to hear about Cafe Monico as a result of booking at Queens Theatre. Easy to book. Relaxed atmosphere. Lovely staff. Brilliant meal. Will come again
Seems to be going downhill. Service not as attentive. Menu is becoming more limited.
Excellent choice before the theatre in the early evening a hidden gem. It is worth a visit. Good cocktails and a simple menu with the food well cooked and presented
Superb as always - great food reasonably priced - good atmosphere
Food not great - tiramisu was just a bit of bland layer cake plonked in a glass of single cream. Staff perfectly pleasant but quite hard to get hold of and a bit slow.
A lovely restaurant. The decor is tasteful yet chic, with a nice atmosphere. Tables are quite close together but not so that you can hear your neighbours conversation, so this wasn’t a major issue. The food met expectations - we finished everything our our plates and I would have the sea bass again. The only slight problem we had was upon ordering x2 jasmine teas, both teabags had accidentally been put into the same teapot, leaving my mother with nothing but hot water. However our waiter was helpful and polite, and had it resolved quickly. Overall, I would definitely return.
I’m a big fan of Cafe Monico. I live in Brighton but when I have lunch in town with friends we always come here, because the place is beautiful and the food is usually delicious. However on Thursday the service was poor - very slow and the food came out cold, with steaks not cooked to order. Our wine was held to ransom in a bucket about 20m from our table and no one was topping us up. The ladies loos were a mess, no hand towels etc. All of this could be forgiven if the restaurant was busy but there were literally 4-5 tables. I feel really disappointed but will give it one more go and hope this was just a temporary glitch.
We enjoyed an excellent pre theatre meal, great atmosphere, good food and excellent value, and so conforms the theatre
Unfortunately, we never made it past our first drinks to dinner. Not only was the waitress's English so poor that she botched our drink orders entirely, she made no attempt to read back our orders to us when we sent our drinks back. This resulted in another mess up on the drinks.
We decided not to go through all of this for our dinner, so we politely asked for the bill. We obviously felt embarrassed for her and made up an excuse about only wanting drinks. Needless to say, we had to ask for the bill three times.
The whole thing was a disaster. Do not go here.
Good restaurant. We booked before Les Mis which is right next door. The service was pretty good although they didn’t top up our glasses from the bottle of wine we ordered at any point during dinner. Having said that; food arrived in good time and it was all very tasty. We all had steak which was cooked perfectly. The staff were also extremely friendly! All in all, a fantastic meal.
Service great had wonderful attentive service, very helpful and eye and ear for details
I went with a friend that had t been before and she loved it. It is a great experience.
What a difference in a couple of months. Last time my feedback was super positive today’s experience was not far short of dreadful. The service was appalling and the food dreadful. I wouldn’t go back and definitely withdraw my previous recommendation
Shown to our table and didnt see waitress for 10 mins. My guest needed the ladies. She tried asking a passing waitress who replied she couldnt stop !! Eventually after approx 40 mins we were served a main course. It took at least 20 minutes before our plates were removed. We never saw another waitress after that. No food no wine left I had to look for a waitress to settle the bill. I couldnt quite believe this experience in London.
Unfortunately our experience was not good the starter of Avocado ,there was only a very small amount of Avocado scraped on the plate ,one small baguette to share with one piece of butter , we had to ask for our mains as we were going to the theatre my friends Crab pasta was dry and had to ask for oil ,my sea bass was okay, we had a glass of wine each however I did not scrutinize the bill as we wanted to get to the theatre and on returning home I checked the bill and had been charged £11.00 for a glass of wine we did not have, I have scanned this in to an e-mail and sent off to your "info"
I was meeting a girl friend for supper, and had requested a 'quiet' table, which they noted and we got.
The place is lovely, and although our original choice of main course from the set menu was not available ( there are only a couple of choices) the steak was excellent.
The service was too good ( not something you often hear). It was a quiet night and the staff came up to us every ten minutes to check if everything was alright. They never stopped, and it was quite intrusive, although they were very nice, and certainly didn't mean to get in the way, we could have done with less !
Would certainly recommend, and it is an ideal pre/post theatre venue.
I have been to the Café Monico many times just for drinks in the downstairs bar and absolutely loved it. It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. This was the first time I have eaten there and was disappointed. The food overall was good apart from the flat iron steak which was tough. The staff were friendly but both the waitresses I had were in very scruffy dirty uniforms with stains on theirm
Our waiter for the dinner service was very pleasant but we were not attended to as much.
The place seemed a bit under-staffed yet not very busy.
We were on the top floor and there was hardly anybody in sight to ask for more drinks or to check if we were ok.
Food was ok (maybe slightly overpriced for what was on offer, but it is the West End after all).
A good 10min after ordering our main courses we were told that few items were no longer on the menu – amongst which dauphinoise potatoes (... running our of potatoes and cream? on a Tuesday night?).
Also a 'surprise dessert' with candle (we were celebrating a birthday), was a bit of a fiasco as it arrived after everyone else finished their dessert and half melted.
It was awful! Such a disappointment after an amazing theatre performance to celebrate a birthday occasion. The bread was not fresh and not warm, they brought one piece of bread to the table when there were two of us there, the calamari was bland, the burger which was ordered pink came brown and tasted like boiled meat. We returned the food and left disappointed!!!!
Fabulous experience. Great service but did have two swap overs of waiter which brought rating down a bit. Also quite pricey but one of my new fave spots! Highly recommend
We had a lovely friends get together over dinner on a Friday evening... the place was buzzy and the food was good.
I really enjoyed Cafe Monico!
The service was superb, the bathrooms were clean and we were given a lovely table by the window.
I highly recommend it!
Great for a quick pre theatre bite to eat. Interesting and different menu. Something for everyone with healthy options. Reasonably priced. 2 courses £16.
