The pre theatre menu is great value. The food was more than acceptable and service excellent.
We came here for lunch before watching a show and it was excellent, good food, and the service was good. Would definitely come here again
4 girlfriends get together (age-early 30’s). Great tasting food, nice ambience. We ate Friday evening. Disappointed they didn’t have their Tiramisu which which is meant to be delicious, or the Tarte au Citron however went for the Apricit choux, wouldn’t recommend it as a pudding but the service, lighting, music (light jazz) was fantastic! Would return and recommend!
Great service and food. Waitress had good knowledge of menu and was very helpful with food allergy.
This fitted the bill perfectly in the interval of a double bill at the theatre next door. We were served promptly and my only slight complaint would be the charge for water and the waitress starting to clear while one member was still eating and asking us if all was ok at each course when we had barely eaten a mouthful of each course. Would recommend and would visit again.
GOOD STANDARD, WARM WELCOME AND VERY GOOD LOCATION FOR ANYONE ATTENDING PERFORMANCES AT THE GIELGUD
Prompt service, friendly staff, great location, beautiful interior, lovely atmosphere, very good food with good vegetarian options
We had an excellent visit to Cafe Monico - enjoying the food and atmosphere before and after seeing a Play nearby. The menu exactly met our needs and was provided by friendly, efficient, very welcoming staff. An unhurried, relaxed treat - thank you Cafe Monico we will most certainly return at every opportunity.
Location right in the heart of theatre land next to Gielgud theatre so very convenient for pre or post theatre dining. Food was well presented and very tasty. Service was a little over officious but we were early evening so it was not at all busy.
Beautiful setting with old fashioned elegance: chandeliers, wooden panelling and central bar. I ordered a gin which came in a large 'tequila glass' and so was so diluted you couldn't taste the gin which was a shame- especially for nearly £10! The main meal was OK and they brought bread & butter to nibble on which was lovely and an odd thing was that the chicken came with an unusual stuffing- it looked/had consistency of soft clay and was welded to the chicken breast and tasted bland- kind of spoilt the plate. One waitress tops- professional, smiling and another not so OK- a bit glum and offhand ( it was a glorious day outside). Fantastic location and I suspect the pre/post-theatre menu is better value ( I had Sunday lunch ).
Great place great food great staff
A friendly and relaxed place to eat and enjoy good food. Service was excellent and attentive to our needs. Beautifully styled decor and comprehensive menu and drinks selection. We particularly enjoyed the cocktails and pasta dishes.
Would recommend this reasonably priced restaurant anybody.
The food was excellent and the pre-theatre menu is good value. The only reason it gets 4 stars not 5 is the service. Starters and mains came promptly, but even though we had told them that we needed to be at a theatre for 7pm, despite several prompts our desserts did not arrive till 6.45pm. This changed what would have been a relaxed experience into a somewhat nail-biting one.
The food and wine were good, the table upstairs was better and the service/staff were excellent.
The food and drinks are good and the servers are nice but the service was not very attentive at all, we had to continuously seek out someone to help us and were always waiting to have our glasses filled or an order taken, even our water glasses were never filled and we had to take the jug from the waiters station.
Excellent service from our waiter Christhian and the food was great!
Everything was perfect
A real find
Vegan meal was delicious
Brunch was great
Will eat here again
Great for theatre meals
Best visit yet. Service was attentive and fun, and the duck was ridiculously delicious! Very happy regular customer.
Good value, food good quality and portion sizes spot on. Service was friendly but a little slow (and it was quiet in the restaurant). “Special” cocktail was disappointing, gin was superb. Would visit again as the pre theatre meal was excellent value
Staff were extremely attentive
Decor is very classy
Enjoyable evening but slightly disappointed with the bar service. The gin mare cocktail I ordered lacked one of the key ingredients and it was supposed to have FeverTree tonic but something called Double Dutch went in it instead. Minor I know but why advertise it? It wasn't great. Service was friendly and leisurely as they could see we were in no rush but final bill needed correcting. Food was a good brasserie standard with French and Italian staples and reasonably priced. Coffee was excellent. I'd go again but maybe skip the cocktails next time.
We loved it. The food was outstanding and the service was impeckable. I would definately go again. I had swordfish. It was cooked to perfection!!
A very pleasant pre theatre lunch - generous portions of delicious food served by friendly staff
We went for a pre-theatre meal and were extremely pleased with the food and the service with very friendly staff. Would definitely return.
Lovely welcome, superb service, excellent food all leading to a special pre-theatre dinner.
We'll be back!
Great atmosphere, service and food. Would happily book again.
Not to be missed. A really great restaurant with high standards.
Excellent food, nice and effective serving staff.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, and the open kitchen allows you to watch the chefs preparing your food.
Despite the high rating on trip adviser and some other websites, this restaurant was not impressive at all. Its a noisy restaurant full of tourists and the staff are not very pleasant. The food was fine but slightly overpriced. Definitely NOT a nice place for a romantic date or a special occasion!
First time at Cafe Monico. Celebrating a friends 50th and wanted something special. Had a wonderful evening. Great service from the waitress. Food was delicious and great ambiance.
We had a lovely post-theatre dinner at Cafe Monico. We had a drink at the bar and then had the set menu. The food was excellent and service was really good. Best tiramisu I’ve ever had! I will definitely be returning.
Café Monica is a welcome place for a pre-theatre meal in the heart of the theatre district, and at a very reasonable chance. Moreover, the selection for the pre-theatre menu is reasonable, as is the price. Service was excellent and staff are very aware of making theatre times. Food is French bistro/modern European with good examples of each. We will certainly return.
Very chic setting, great for a double date or pre/post theatre meal, especially with Les Mis next door. The décor is nicely chosen and a great spot for lunch or dinner right in the heart of Leicester Square. The food is thoughtfully prepared (with a menu that includes both safe and creative dishes for foodies and picky eaters) and the service is friendly - I recommend.
My friends and I had an exceptional first time here and we will definitely be going back. The brunch was amazing and the service was great. We sat upstairs and had a fantastic view of the restaurant below etc. I highly recommend Cafe Monico and am looking forward to our next foodie experience there.
I go to Cafe Monico regularly. The staff are great and it is very convient for the West End theatres. A haven in an area of horrible eating places.
Excellent experience. Recommended by an actor friend who said it's great food and you won't be ripped off. Spot on!
Love Cafe Monico and took friends that had not been. It’s expensive but food, service etc is excellent. Would certainly recommend it.
This is a gem of a restaurant in the heart of the West End, ideal for pre/post theatre meals or a meal independent of a theatre trip. I went with a friend of mine for a meal after a matinee in one of the nearby Shaftesbury Avenue theatres and my choice of restaurant did not disappoint. We had a table by the window in the upstairs section of the restaurant so was able to watch the activity outside while we were eating. The restaurant has a good ambience, the staff are courteous and helpful without being intrusive and the food was excellent. It is a restaurant where you can easily spend 2 or 3 hours over a leisurely meal. I would recommend it to other people.
good food and service, although disappointed when despite asking for the fried egg to have hard yolk and don't make the egg white crispy thats exactly what I got. seems like a challenging concept for professional chefs...
Visited pre theatre on a Thursday evening. Great place never visited before food was well presented and was excellent tastes.. We had the sword fish which was lovely. Drinks were good too having a couple of cocktails. Don't pass this place by.
