Attractive french brasserie style restaurant in the heart of the west end. The smart central bar, high ceiling and balcony seating make the place quite impressive. Food was good and service attentive.
Very amiable service, with straight forward and honest team, lovely ambiance, everyone was lovely and the food was great! The only thing is I asked for a medium rare and the sirloin was over cooked but still delicious. I didn’t mind so much because of excellent staff
I had the sea bass and it was one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever tasted. I highly recommend sitting upstairs, beautiful views of the decor. Wonderful service too, thank you.
I am a frequent and usually happy visitor to this restaurant; but my last visit was poor. Poor response to bringing drinks ( 4 requests for one beer), main courses that took an age to arrive, only to arrive cold, thus necessitating being send back to the kitchen, only to be returned reheated and dried out. Staff were helpful and sincere in trying to assist but an evening having a long overdue catch up with friends was instead spent watching for our meals and drinks to arrive. And to be clear, the restaurant was not busy. As an aside I don't think that the new menu has the breadth and interest of the old one. The new chicken dish in no way equates to the former Chicken Cacciatore, and the previous Pork Chop was a feast! No Paris Brest on the desert menu, and i don't like the bread that's now served. I will return - but things need to shape up!
Perfect location for theatres. Great ambience and good menu choices.
Good food and great fast service as we were heading for the Theatre. ideal location in Shaftesbury Avenue
I have recently had a business lunch here and it was perfect. Quiet area seating, quality service, great food. The decor is beautiful and it has a great vibe.
One of the people I was with had the Sirlon steak which was full grise. When she compliant to waiter he said that what that cut like. We didn't take the compliant further as we had to leave for theatre. But half the steak was inedible. Left bad impression with my friend who doesn't leave in London of London restaurants. I had a small steak and prawn cocktail which was fine.
Fantastic restaurant next to Queens Theatre. What a gem cannot fault anything food , staff , service all superb will definitely go here again.
First time we ve visited Cafe Monico and will difinitely return! Wonderful lunch before the theatre.
Service was friendly and excellent. Beautiful food. Favourite hand cream in toilet too! A totally Lovely experience.
Reliably very good. Suitable for both business and friends.
Great location for pre-theatre, and excellent quality of food, friendly service.
We went to Cafe Monico because it was next to the theatre where we had tickets and looked like it had a decent menu. We were shown to a nice table upstairs where it was a bit quieter than downstairs and we could look down at the bar and goings on. We had a decent cocktail - not the best we've had as the flavours didn't really stand out much, but very good. The food was bistro French - a good sirloin steak that had a good grilled taste with very good crispy thin frites and a crab pasta that had loads of crab and was very flavourful. The prices are very fair, especially for the theatre district where you can get some pretty bad food at high prices. We would definitely return to Cafe Monico if we are in the area again.
It was as if the normal staff had all taken a holiday and left a C team in place. No house whiskey, Bloody Mary was made wrong and when questioned somehow we were wrong. Asked for a Manhattan and they did not know how to make, asked what the house Whiskey was and was told Johnny Walker black label by one staff member then Woodford by another. Oh and us if we did not know what we were talking about. 3 men in the 40’s and 50’s in SoHo for lunch being told by 20 year old’s I don’t think so.
Took several requests to even get ice. The food was cold, over salted, onion soup tasted 5 days old. Bread too 25 mins and was focaccia in a French restaurant, sausage and mash was awful and covered in dried packet onions which ruined any flavour, gravy was cold and even after asking for hot gravy same again.
Espresso’s came cold, and decided against deserts.
80GBP a head for Lunch after they gave us discount.
SOHO house group you need to reset this place. Great music, location and ambience but you need to tell your staff big everyone that comes in are tourists some of us live inCentral London and know what that area is to Londoners.
Carry on like that and you will be basing your business on a one visit per guest, pre theatre guest profile rather than also regular loyal guests. No restaurant survives that.
Will be back next month as the usual manger was in as we left. Let’s see if this was just a one off bad shift.
Very good venue for a pre theatre lunch or dinner - an oasis of calm in an otherwise tourist rip off area. The food is "correct" as they say in France - nothing amazing but good. But the ambience and service were outstanding. They could improve the menu by offering more vegetarian and some vegan options.
The service attention to detail and friendliness of the team has mean that this restaurant has lost its flair - this isn’t what it used to be.
Good location post theatre open late. That is about the best that can be said.
Arrived earlier than booked, but this was not an issue and we were seated in a window seat upstairs so we had a great view of the street, so perfect for people watching. Starters came very quickly but then as the restaurant got busier the service levels dropped a bit. We were left waiting for a coffee/dessert menu, not a major issue but then waited a further 20 minutes for 2 coffees, that when arrived were luke warm. We were seeing a show so asked for the bill at the same time, which again failed to materialise, so had to chase.
It's a shame because overall the food was nice, just a little let down by the service once the restaurant got busy - no one ever checked that everything was ok.
Excellent meal and great service, will definitely be back
Pre theatre dinner. Great value in a stylish, very convenient location
Great service for pre theatre speedy food!
Hugely reliable pre-theatre meal. Food beautifully prepped as always. So nice to find somewhere individual.
Decent food and really good service in a quirky setting dressed up as a 1920s bistro. Good fun.
Very good value whether you eat from the prixe fixe menu or not.
Service was a little patchy. Charming but a long wait for mains then arrived without one main course. A polite reminder to the maitre de just got a terse, "Yes it's coming."
The long wait meant we had no time for dessert and we discovered we had half a bottle of wine still in our cooler but out of reach!
They had stopped topping us up so we thought it was finished. There were five of us and they really seemed to struggle with this number.
Couldn't wait around to raise this as we had theatre tickets.
Always good. Everyday dining or special occasions. Business, dates or families. Food great, wine good, location amazing.
It was empty and waiters were standing idle. But. Part of the order was forgotten. The carafe of wine was taken away and forgetten. An offer to refund part of its value was handled with such ill grace we refused and left.
Sad - I have had good experiences here at lunchtime and as someone else’s guest.
Arrived for brunch in near empty restaurant. Fruit salad too cold and tasted of onion. Sent back. No apology / follow up conversation. Breakfast egg dishes neither hot nor warm plus served on cold plates. Service elusive. Used to be a great place but significantly deteriorated. Will not return but try new, better places.
Absolutely superb!! Ambience, food and service!!! My favorite place!
It has a lovely ambience and l like that it has a bar on the ground floor and then the restaurant on the first floor. It also has tables all round the edges with a gallery effect, which creates a feeling of space.
Even with a reservation, sat at a table on the aisle in the back. Saw/ heard others without reservations be seated upstairs, at nicer tables. Our waiter was great, but would not go back or suggest to anyone looking for a nice meal. It’s a pub that smells better.
Lovely setting and good atmosphere, but service was super slow. Even though it was a busy night in December they were understaffed and when it got quieter and more manageable we were still forgotten about. Not ok.
always great. lovely attentive staff. a real treat of a place
Good atmosphere, staff were friendly, the girl who served us was excellent.
From the moment we stepped in to the restaurant it was disappointing. It didn’t smell clean. The food was very mediocre. There are far better places to go.
Restaurant is pretty and the food is alright, overall service is quite poor, although the food is good and filling so i’ll still recommend it’s worth the trip for a nice restaurant with good portions and nice food. Though if your working on a schedule like pre theatre or something give extra time before dinning as service is a bit slow
Lovely and friendly staff. Can’t do enough for you. Shame they ran out of some options but so apologetic. Took quite a long time for the mains to be served but it was a busy time.
Booked for pe-theatre. Received a fierce voicemail day before saying table must be returned in 2 hours.
Arrived in near empty restaurant and hostess seated me in squashed up table on corner to be bumped regularly by waiting staff.
Waited over 20mins before waiter offered me a drink.
I ordered pasta and meatballs. Sauce was sparse and insufficient to enjoy the pasta. Meatballs were dense and tasteless.
Underwhelming service, underwhelming food. Did not represent value for money.
Bar staff were well trained and the cocktails were excellent. At lunch both bottles of wine we wanted were sold out, and the wine list is not extensive. We ordered the Sunday roast and were then informed that part of the dish was not available as it had sold out, it was 15:00 and the restaurant was quiet. Apart from that the meal was good.
Beautiful restaurant and lovely staff. Food was fab, I’ll be back!
food was cold.
No peppercorn sauce or told when ordering
replacement sauce arrived only after the meal was finished
cheese board came with 3 crackers
overall...great atmosphere. overpriced bland food.
