We had the most unusual experience. Apparently the dining room was closed on Christmas Eve, yet somehow we were able to make a reservation through Open Table. They honored the reservation but setting up a table in a room where the bed had been removed. It was a private dining experience that was truly extraordinary. The table was beautiful and the ambiance was spectacular. There was some confusion, however. Prior to arriving we were told that the full menu was available but when we arrived we were told that only the prix fixe was available that evening. I would highly recommend this place just to see the incredible renovation that was done on this historic Riggs Bank building. I do plan to return when the dining room opens.

The entire experience — staff, food, beverages, atmosphere — is excellent and relaxing. We always look forward to dining at Cafe Riggs!

The service is impeccable! Oysters are always fantastic and one of the best burgers in town.

Waitress was best in DC. Food really needs work.

One particular table is placed right next to a noisy HVAC. Other than that, the ambience is outstanding, and the decor, appropriate for a fine dining experience.

Tasty but expensive

Cafe Riggs is a wonderful place. The Cafe Riggs team from arrival through departure are so welcoming and gracious. Overall service is excellent and the food always perfectly prepared. We are fortunate to live in the neighborhood near Cafe Riggs, so we can dine often. If visiting DC, don’t miss it. If a DC resident, also don’t miss this wonderful restaurant.

Can be perfect for dinner with friends, a date, or a business meal. Pretty restaurant worthy of stylish attire and a champagne toast! The roast chicken is so yummy!

We ate outside, and it was pretty loud because it is right next to the street. The food was okay, but you can get better from other restaurants in the city. I really wanted it to be great, but it just fell short.

Riggs has a similar Le Dip vibe. Their burger is JUST as good and you need to check it out. Service is phenomenal and friendly. Cocktails were delicious. There aren't any people there, so you have the place all to yourself (that how it felt 9/2/2020)

Amazing service food and drinks

Outstanding all around! Food and service are excellent. I can't believe I haven't written an review yet in this restaurant since my husband and I have been at least 20 times since they opened. Okay the food! Salads...the kale salad has avocado and crispy chickpeas is my favorite. Halibut is my go to dish but the Steak Frites is awesome. The burger....yes!! Delish! Oh and I cannot cover about dessert. The chocolate dessert (darn I cannot remember the name) is a perfect ending.

Now the service. Impeccable! Javani is our favorite server...ask for him! But really everyone is outstanding. The restaurant is casual chic. You can go dressed fairly casual so don't worry. Please try this restaurant. It is outstanding. You won't be disappointed.

Saturday night was the first time I have been back to eating out since mid February and I chose to return to The Riggs Cafe! It was a perfect decision as this time as as fantastic as my first. I love They are consistent level of service, quality of food, and newly introduced safety measures. This has easily become my favorite restaurant in Washington DC.

We had the Arctic Char, Steak Frites and a salad. All were absolutely amazing, and the people were just great. The restaurant was immaculately clean and we will definitely go back. There is outdoor seating but we sat inside and could not have been happier. This is one of our new favorites in DC.

There is nothing to say other than GREAT CHOICE, EXCELLENT FOOD and SERVICE! A new must go and favorite restaurant. Now I Have to try the hotel side of it. 5 Stars for Cafe Riggs.

One of the best dinners I've ever had. Truly exceptional.

Delicious meat and vegetable options.

My husband and I had a lovely dinner at Cafe Riggs. Its a very attractive venue, with nice menu options. We booked an early dinner (post matinee at the Shakespeare Theater), and were glad that we had a reservation. Even though it was early (5:30) it filled up quickly. The service was exceptional -- very friendly, and attentive --both from our waiter and his assistant, who made sure that our water glasses were always filled and that plates were cleared at the appropriate time, etc. The food was delicious and nicely presented. My only critique would be that the prices are a bit steep -- not someplace you would want to go for everyday casual dinning. But for a special occasion, or when you you want a treat, it is great.

Food was very good, though pricey. Service and ambience were great.

Was very disappointed. I was there on Wednesday, Feb 19th for lunch and had the grilled octopus which I thought was fabulous. It is one of my favorite foods and the one by which i judge restaurants. The dish I had Wednesday for lunch was perfect. It was extremely tender and the sauce was perfection. The portion size was perfect, as there were two very nice size pieces. On Saturday I elected to have a salad and the octopus as my entree'. I was beyond disappointed when the portion size was about a third of what it had been on Wednesday. One very small thin piece of octopus and that was it. Same wonderful flavor and texture, but not remotely acceptable as even an appetizer portion. If the "all day menu" means same price and smaller portions for dinner then I would not be returning to the restaurant.

We were disappointed with the service and delay on drinks. For a Saturday night it seemed to have enough servers but not enough urgency.

Cafe Riggs is a great place for all occasions.

A peaceful coffee and breakfast before work (very easy because of their central downtown location), Brunch with friends, date night or drinks after a long day.

Cafe Riggs is able to provide the perfect setting for whatever you are looking for.

People working at this café were very hospitable and helpful. The architecture and ambience of this place is amazing and very lovely. The food was OK and could improve a little. I tried the steak which was a bit cold and chewy, but the fries that came with it tasted good and were fried perfectly. My fiancé had the Arctic Char which was tasty and just fine. My suggestion is to have higher standards for staff attire to match the amazing architecture and masterful design of the cafe. Overall I was satisfied with my experience and will go back for sure.

Food and service were amazing!! Will definitely be back.

Talk about an overpriced meal! My husband got the steak tartare to start, which had an odd (maybe old?) aftertaste. He then followed with the steak frites, which was a good steak. Not a steak worth $50+. I got the pasta with mushroom ragu and it was tasty. I don’t think it was freshly made pasta, which would make it worth the higher price tag.

Gorgeous restoration of the building and we were so excited for a new place to open in our neighborhood, but we will not be going back.
