Second visit within th month. Lovely place and vibe. Good service and food. However, my venison was little fatty in parts, my only criticism
Will come back. As very special.place
Staff very good and great with recommendations. The food was lovely we had mussels at lunchtime and it was very filling and the sauce was delicious.
Food was superb, exceeded my expectations a lot.
Service was very attentive without being over the top
Pablo was wonderful! Thanks for an amazing evening!
Just popped into our favourite Edinburgh for a quick drink.
It was so good to be back we had a little fizz & a few nibbles.
The servers were knowledgeable and friendly. They made the experience outstanding for us.
The staff were fantastic! Our first visit and we loved it so much we went back the next day! Brilliant, quiet pub with a lovely vibe, perfect for a group day out!
Friendly staff and great service.
Only had drinks, friendly staff, great sevice. Nice and peaceful, could hear yourself speak. Highly recommend
Not eating today but a great pub as always. Staff friendly and attentive.
First visit to the Cafe Royal for a birthday treat. It was very busy and the welcome was limited. Our table was tucked away in a corner and we were seated for 10 mins before anyone came to give menus etc. There was little explanation of menu and when wine we chose was not available little forth coming about similar alternatives.
That said when the food arrived it was first class and the service attentive. We definitely want to visit again as the food was wonderful and hope for a better welcome and introduction - having seen the pace would probably opt for the high tables as they are not so tucked away.
Drinks excellent, Friendly knowledgeable staff. Food was lacking Grilled King Prawns 2! for £12 and not tasty. Mains served warm not hot.
Service was atrocious, waiting 90 minutes before we got our food. Food, when it came, was very mediocre. Staff seemed completely disorganised. Overall a terrible experience from a restaurant, in which I had enjoyed many great meals in the past.
My main course (burger) was lukewarm and chips not as described . Lovely atmosphere and service though and not too expensive .
Great to be back in the best pub in edinburgh, beer food and service was first class
Great service as usual. All the staff seem to really care about making your visit enjoyable. Great pints!
The Cafe Royal is one of my favorite places to catch up with friends but unfortunately this was only the second time I've been there since the pandemic started in March 2020. The visit more than made up for the wait, however, with super friendly staff, a booth seat, a good meal and very quiet surroundings - very unlike the packed out Cafe Royal of previous times!! Definitely want to go back soon.
I reserved a standard table but they tried to seat us at a ridiculously small bar table. OK if you're having a drink and a few bar snacks. They did move us to a proper table once I asked them.
Apart from the haggis tatties which we had for starters and my fish pie the rest of the food was way below the standard we would expect for the price charged. The steak was served done despite ordering medium rare and was served with the wrong sauce. The triple cooked chips that was served with the steak were way overcooked. We had to send it back but the replacement was not much better, the steak came rare and was full of sinew so really chewy and not really edible. We didn't complain as the waiter had been helpful replacing the first dish. The burger which looked nice was overcooked and so was dry. The soda bread with seaweed butter was a little stale. All in all a very disappointing meal.
Family trip. Great food, great service, lovely atmosphere.
Service a bit slow, food not bad but a wee bit expensive. Nice venue with friendly and helpful staff though.
Slow service, though friendly when it came. Good very good
Great venue, great food and great service. Staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. A great afternoon.
Social distancing was good but service between ordering and service was slow!
Excellent as usual
I used to be a regular to this establishment when I was in Edinburgh, unfortunately I won`t be back. The menu is nowhere near as good as it once was. Very poor and well over priced.
Very disappointed with the food, 2 starters and 2 mains was not worth £80 Me and my partner go to a lot of restaurants that do seafood, this was the worst by far, the seafood platter we had was not good at all, had an un fresh fishy smell to it, can’t explain how disappointed we were, we will certainly not be going again.
Good service in beautiful surroundings. We felt safe due to covid rules being adhered to.
Lovely oysters and champagne 🥂🥰🥰
45 minutes for starter to arrive and it was cold. Sent it back & it came back in 2 minutes!
Waiter removed bottle of water from table & was not even empty.
Food was very average for the price. Fish pie made fresh to order was not great & the crab claw is the smallest I have ever seen!
Really good food, highly recommended . Lots of local fresh fish on the menu.
A very enjoyable evening in the Cafe Royal. We were seated in the Oyster Bar, and it is the first time for many years that we have been there. Very comfortable and a little quieter than the circle bar. The service was excellent and we all enjoyed our food. Great evening thank you!
Drinks only no food
Clean, organised, lovely food and terrific service. What more do you need. Well worth a visit
Excellent quality food plus great wine. Service to Mach. Two thumbs up.
Dirty lipstick covered glass spoiled a five star review. Food brilliant, atmosphere brilliant, great value
I was disappointed that Stella Artois was not available.
Sheer class Fantastic venue with great surroundings and brilliantly staff and service
I've been here many times over the past 10 years or so - never disappointed, always great food and great service
Exceptional place to eat. The staff are very friendly and the food is amazing.
We really like the Cafe Royal. The food menu is to our taste--very good
