Went on Tuesday night with a Groupon. Only us and 1 other table eating there although there were a few customers at the bar which is separated from the restaurant by a full wall. Despite that the piped in music was so loud we did have to speak at rather high volume to be heard.
The food was very good and reasonably priced- even without Groupon. Portions were huge. Interesting every dish came with rice and veggies. We did ask for potato for 1 of our party. Originally we were told only boiled potatos but they did agree to french fries. Possibly since no one eating there that night they wanted to keep things simple. We had the sirloin steak, veal marsala and filet of sole with bananas. All were good.
They had 1/2 bottles of wine for $14 ! Which was a huge plus for us since no way we finish a bottle and glasses are hit or miss.
Great place for dinner. Their food is wonderfully prepared and tasty. Staff is very welcoming and warm. Definitely a go to place for us. Been here a few times and will keep coming back.
This is the most disgusting food I have eaten in a very long time . I had the paella that was like soup and the clams and mussels were bad ! When I told the waiter he just said ok and then brought the bill !!! STAY AWAY !!!!
Hidden jewel. Great Sangria, food is exceptional, service wonderful. There was more lobster in my paella than clams!
Neighborhood Gem. We love this restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is wonderful and it’s a great value for the money. We dine here quite often.
Food was awesome my wife had the Seaford paella loved every part of it and I had the veal chop it was cooked perfectly. The sangria was delicious will be back again
We go once a month with a reservation for 2, and usually enjoy the food and service. This time they were overbooked with large groups and we were rushed out. Never told the specials for the day and were rushed through.
Food quality, prep, service were all seriously lacking. Workers showed very little interest in customers
The freshest food worth waiting for
Very good food and service. There was a party of 12 that was very very loud
Great food..well priced... service very attentive.. having a Groupon was added bonus!
We have come to Cafe Sport several times and the food is always delicious with generous servings. Last night I had the fish with bananas. The fish was crisp on the edges and the combination was so good! My husband had the fish franchise style. Also great. I’ve had the veal chop here which is good as well. Never disappointed with the excellence of the food and the attention we receive.
A fabulous neighborhood gem
The service is always excellent and the food is always delicious and freshly made.
Father’s Day lunch
We love this place. We have eaten here 5 or 6 times and it has always been a treat. It is a small place so if it is busy it can be noisy, but normally it is reasonably quiet. We consider the place a little jewel because of the interesting Portuguese food, reasonable prices and friendly wait staff.
Always a great meal and service!
Recommended and brought friends.
This was our 2nd time dining and the food was delicious again.
Our server was attentive and friendly. We will be back.
The sardines were very good but the special stew was very average, not nearly as good as expected. the baked clams were tasty but mostly breadcrumbs not much in the way of clams. It was fine for a quick casual meal
When we arrived was told open table was not working so they did not have my reservation. There were multiple large groups so they set up a table for us outside the restaurant dining room. Unfortunately there were only two people working who worked their tails off. Angel handled everything as best he could but a 1 1/2 hr dinner took over 3. Way tooo long.
First time there will differently be back.
The fish special what top notice.
Had the wings (not on menu) they were great.
My wife had the mussels again great.
Alright here we go again what can I say I gave them another chance but I will probably not be going back again. We waited 40 minutes for appetizers which was ridiculous. it was another 45 minutes until we received our meals. They obviously have a problem, I don't care even if you are making it from scratch . This time I asked if the owner was there the guy said yes I told him why I was asking because the last time we were there he wasn't and the service and food reflected it. I am sorry for being so blunt but I appreciate it when I read other peoples reviews. Good Luck on whatever you decide.
Always great fresh food and excellent table service.
Food was delicious and service was great. Lots of different choices on the menu. Sangria was really good
the food, service and ambience was way above expectations. In a word, excellent!
Very good food and very nice staff. Just need to do better honoring reservations on time
The service was extremely poor and rude. I will never go back
Rude waitstaff but good food
Friendly wait staff. A little disorganized about seating but they apologized with a free apetizer. Very accommodating, food was good.
We went on a Saturday night and waited 15-20 minutes for a table despite having a reservation. Everyone that arrived after us, waited 20-30 minutes before anyone would speak to them. The restaurant was short staffed with no one manning the front desk. There was not enough wait-staff to cover the dining room and a lot of angry customers.
The food was good and the over-worked wait-staff was very accommodating.
Wow! I never leave a negative review as I am very easy to please and am not picky at all. Our experience at Cafe Sport was so disappointing that I must write about it. We love Portuguese food and were in the mood for a bunch of seafood appetizers, salad, soup and light fare. We arrived at restaurant, a completely empty restaurant btw, at 3:45 and were given the dinner menu. We had picked out a few appetizers we were looking to order and inquired about having a steak sandwich in the dining room (nothing fancy, European tile and wood tables and again we were the only people in the place!!) we were told no we couldn’t order a steak sandwich at the tables unless we paid a few dollars extra, that was fine we were thankful for the server/bartender accommodated our request and at 3:45 it was still lunch hour in our opinion. However, after speaking to owner he comes back and says no we can only order a steak sandwich at the bar (a dark, dingy bar) no thank you! Needless to say we did not stay. So, our review is biased as we didn’t get to taste the food, though we’ve had food in the past and it was delicious, especially the steak sandwich! We left completely exasperated, how could you be in the serving business and not accommodate a simple request when you have a completely empty restaurant?! Totally their loss, though the steak sandwich was $7 our check would have been significantly higher as we planned to order a bunch of things and would probably be gone by the time another person stepped foot in there. Such poor customer service! We went to Bar Frites in Roslyn and had a delicious steak sandwich, soup, salad and exceptional accommodating service!
Would not return...
Food was good but service was extremely slow.
We love Cafe Sport. This establishment is cozy, down to earth, great service, casual, great value for your money and you never feel rushed. It truly is a neighborhood gem and the food and sangria are yummy.
This was my first time and I can tell you that it will not be my last time. I was impressed with ok service and even more so with the food. I have a friend who so proud to be Portguese and tells me that he only goes to the real authentic Portguese Restaurant. He told me that this place wasn't but I have to say he is so wrong. If you have a chance go there let's keep good places like this in business.
Cafe Sport provides delicious Portuguese food, friendly service and very tasty, abundant portions. We couldn't eat it all, but we all definitely left with doggy bags! We'll be back soon.
A regular here, but when they have more than a few tables, it can throw off the entire waitstaff and kitchen. What is normally a 1hr dinner, turned into 2.5hrs of waiting around for a dinner for 2.
I have mixed emotions about Cafe Sport.
First off its a neighborhood spot that's obviously been around a long time, and I mean that on a good way; there's a comfortable, no pretense vibe to the place. Staff is friendly, but unfortunately slow in providing service. After having a good caipirinha cocktail I asked for another...."sorry, we don't have anymore cachaça", the main alchohol ingredient. Took 15 minutes to get a substitute drink, with our futile efforts to get the waiter's attention ignored. On the positive drink front, the Sangria is excellent. Food is best described as OK, good portions but nothing special. If I lived in the area I'd go for Happy Hour at the bar, otherwise, "not worth the trip".
We really enjoyed our food. I would not order the fried calamari again- looked & tasted like it was frozen & microwaved as were the vegetables.
