Take yourself to dine upstairs in our restaurant where you’ll find further appetising à la carte choices. Perfect for business lunches, birthday celebrations or Christmas parties – enjoy the friendly Italian atmosphere.
Really good meal. Not the first time we’ve been but won’t be the last. Exquisitely cooked and well presented food. Very good wine list and comfortable service.
Wonderful meal in a quiet setting. Chef/owner greeted is after the meal. Talked for hours.
Love this place
Dinner for 4. Good table upstairs, excellent food and wines. Relaxed experience. Efficient, unobtrusive service.
Very friendly service, great ambience & style, love the food. Wish I lived round the corner!
A Classic and a Gem of an Italian
Classic Italian restaurant that you find in Italy. Expensive for what it was. £50 per head.
Caffé Caldesi is a good traditional Italian restaurant in a quiet little street in the West End. The staff are friendly and the menu is varied.
Not been here before but was pleasantly surprised. The staff were attentive and the food excellent. Boooking are taken upstairs with a walk in, more informal atmosphere downstairs. The prices were reasonable for the quality and the ambience was pleasant. I got the feeling that the staff here are taught how to do things correctly and this was a pleasant change.
Will definitely be going back again.
Great atmosphere and would recommend the combination of ambiance, food and service.
I've been going to Caldesi for over 4 years and its always been consistently excellent from the service to the food. We love Caldesi the food is always fresh and the menu is seasonal so you can always find something different.
Great restaurant always delicious and fresh food with impeccable faultless friendly service.
Quite average and I expected better based on previous experience and from recent reviews.
I used to love this place.
Great food as always. Attentive friendly service
The staff are helpful and nice. Lovely restaurant. Exquisite pasta and generally excellent place to eat. Been previously when visiting London and will definitely return.
It’s the amazing service that made up everything! Food was really nice too, music, vibe, view - all great, loved it!
Delicious Italian food served by friendly and helpful waiters. I always enjoy having a meal here.
Good as always
The food was very good, especially the Burrata we started with.
I had a chicken breast surrounded by bacon which was very tasty.
BUT: I thought it was expensive (only 3 stars for value) and we had no wine.
Two couples meeting up on a Saturday night to catch up over dinner. The food was really good and while there wasn't a great menu selection for the vegetarians in our party, they really enjoyed their meals. It was a little loud for conversation, but we were quite happily occupied with our food. Service was really efficient and friendly, too.
Lovely lunch - very speedy service and delicious food, as always. Great location close to West End shops but away from the busy crowds. Will go again.
Lunch for two friends - good value and a great venue. Strongly recommended as a great place for lunch
The food and setting were very good. At first we felt a bit hurried by the service but this settled as the waiters realised we were there for a leisurely lunch. A dry sherry was not available as an aperitif, perhaps not surprising in an Italian restaurant.
Food was enjoyable.
Overall experience was ruined by the bill paying fiasco - we received and paid the wrong bill, staff insisted that we go through a ridiculous rebate process rather than simply paying the difference ... then they forgot to actually charge our cards ... but eventually realised the mistake and came back with more apologies ... all complete nonsense and handled very poorly by yr Maitre'd!!
In future if you make fundamental mistakes like this I would suggest that you make it as easy as possible for the client to put things right ... that would not involved charges and recharges on credit cards!!
Maybe a training need re customer Service?
Lovely welcome, not stuffy yet very courteous, traditional, discrete service. The burrata starter is gorgeous.
One of my favourite places for lunch.
I had been meaning to go to Caffe Caldesi for ages - it's a Marylebone institution. We booked for lunch in the upstairs restaurant to catch up with an old friend. We were greeted with great courtesy and the staff throughout were charming. The traditional room is also relaxing and sympathetic. On the sommelier's recommendation, we drank a delicious Valpollicella Ripasso. My carpaccio to start was perfect; my husband's squid also good; our friend's choice of grilled scallops a bit meagre for £14.50, at 3 small mouthfuls. Mains were a beef ragu, which was a little underflavoured; and two orders of the day's specials, a veal 'escalope' which was thick, fatty and tepid, with a gloopy mushroom sauce. It didn't really work for us, though not bad enough to occasion complaint. Puds were a firmly-set panna cotta, good homemade ice cream and a delish chocolate fondant. Coffees too were good.
The bill was a cracker, at around £70 a head. To our minds, the cooking was not sufficiently consistent to justify such a price point: though we enjoyed ourselves, there are lots of Italian restaurants in Central London at and below this price which cook more reliably than this.
We had a great date night. The wait staff were attentive, lovely ambience, delicious food!
Delicious food as always! Our friends visiting from the US were completely impressed.
Very enjoyable & relaxing time with good service, food & wine
One word sums up our lunch experience "brilliant". Brilliant food, brilliant wines, brilliant service.
Delicious food with interesting ingredients and hearty classics.
Very good atmosphere not too stuffy
Service very attentive
Very good, authentic Italian food. Service was very good too.
This was a lunchtime booking in the downstairs bar area rather than upstairs restaurant. Despite being almost empty, the service was very poor. They had (apparently) no record of our booking, notwithstanding that it was made through opentable, and we had to ask for service repeatedly - not once did anyone volunteer anything.
My food was equally poor. The Calamari in Zimino contained two small pieces of squid in a sauce heavy on tomato and light on spinach and chilli, which were supposed to accompany it. The L'orata all' acqua pazza (fillet of sea bream) was overly salty, and virtually inedible. I mentioned this to the waitress but she either didn't hear or didn't care. I left most of it.
This was one of the most unenjoyable meals I have had in a long time.
Needless to say we won't be returning and we wouldn't recommend.
Great place to dine and would definitely recommend it to others.
Really great Italian food, bio wine and service. Have already booked a follow up.
The downstairs is casual & cozy, and they offer a set menu with plenty to choose from.
Three generations of family dined together from 12 to 72. Everybody was very well looked after and the food offered was fried enough to meet everybody's taste without losing its Italian Authenticity. Wine list was excellent.
Although the service was very good, it didn't make up for average (at best) food. The homemade potato and pumpkin soup was pasty and lukewarm. The seafood casserole was a very small portion of tiny bits of seafood in a broth for a very high price. The only menu items I liked were the house chardonnay and the balsamic vinegar. I can't recommend it considering all of the other amazing food choices in the area.
Food is outstanding and its a really pleasant place to pass the time.
