Our lunch was amazing, pork chop and steak ale pie was cooked to perfection and the sticky toffee pudding was lush. Pity it wasn’t closer to home so we could visit it again.

Its just a lovely experience you never go without the owners making you feel special, even when they are busy. The foods consistantly excellent, cosy fires, attentive staff.

Excellent service. Mike is a great host, creates a relaxed atmosphere yet very professional. Enjoyed our first meal there so much we went again the following night.

Absolutely stunning food. Fantastic presentation, quality. Steak to die for and a starter of mussels were amazing. Staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Cheese and biscuits were the best I have ever had. And if you like gin, you’ll also love their gin menu. They also make their own distilled gin ‘Beau’ so ended up taking a bottle as a souvenir. You won’t be disappointed - can not fault anything and this place really is a must!

A good friendly welcome in a busy environment. Food was good but because of staff shortage service a little slow on this occasion. Suitable apologies expressed and a leisurely evening not spoilt.

Missed a beat by not saying anything My Wife's meal was unquestionably worse than mine , as she found her Cauliflower soup too thick but enjoyed my Duck Pate .
Her meal though was Duck not cooked properly and not rendered properly , plus a few vegetables some hard , mine well chips and Steak were not hot though Steak was very tender . I felt on the night that the staff were under pressure and maybe this reflected in the Kitchen , maybe just a bad nIght but for 67 pounds I would have expected more , I would say that if we were in the area again this would not be on our list of places to eat .

I wish I had taken a photo of my meal as the meat was 80% fat. So I felt ripped off. I had a lamb roast. There were two mouthfuls of meat that was not fat, one and a half inches round and cut very thin. My guest had similar with their pork but the fat was more edible because it was more crispy. Wasn't impressed with starter either. But venue is very nice and excellent prompt service. Good wine list. Is a shame there is no garden. There are two tables in the front car park which wouldn't be very nice. I wouldn't come in the Summer as there is no outside garden to sit in.

I mentioned it at the end. The waiter said 'Did I say anything?' But I thought if the chef put it on my plate and the waitress took the plate of fat away -they know full well what was served.

I would not eat there. Standing area gets congested at bar in the way of the door.

The food and ambience were excellent but the coffee came without the home made truffles (as stated on the menu) and no apology for this. After we queried it they were apologetic and we were told that the chef hadn't made any that day! We were offered no alternative or reduction in the price of the coffee - not really good enough.

I have eaten here regularly over the past 10 years. We were not impressed by the main menu. In fact there was only the Duck Breast that any of the 6 of us would have ordered. This is the second time in two weeks that I have been. We ordered from the classics menu. The variety here was good. Quality of the items here was good. The sausages were very much to my liking and those who had the fish and chips were satisfied.
The service was excellent. Good wines although the red we asked for was out of stock.
Just feel that the main menu needs some attention.
Well done.

This was our second visit to meet up with friends and we can't wait to go again. We had a lovely welcome and the fires were well alight on a very cold day. The menus are excellent, always plenty of choice with very varied options. The food is first class and allergies well catered for also. See you again soon!

We hadn't been to the Candlelight Inn since it had changed hands some while ago and we weren't disappointed. Everything was excellent. We had to have a slightly earlier table but that didn't spoil our evening. The welcome, attention, service, food & drink were second to none. We shall be back.

Birthday Dinner for my partner, just the 2 of us and it was a lovely evening. The place is gorgeous and the staff had sorted out a nice little table by the log burner so nice and cosy.
Birthday banner put up as well which was such a nice touch. The food was fabulous and
the staff were really helpful and friendly. Would really recommend anyone to try it :)

A must visit destination when we're down from London. A feel-good, sympathetically revamped country inn set in the beautiful countryside of the Blackdown Hills yet just a 5 minute detour off the A303. Warm welcome (to both man & dog), stylish interior, smallish yet interesting menus heavy on seasonal produce. While the pub is relaxed in atmosphere, the food & its presentation are restaurant quality. Good selection of decent ales, beers and wines. Sunday roasts the best (& best value) we've found anywhere. Love this place! We'd recommend booking as it always seems busy.

Lovely welcome. Very good food, knowledgable friendly waiters. They were very busy but we were in no rush, so didn’t matter. Only criticism was that we felt slightly under pressure to leave at 10.55 pm when it had all gone quiet in our section of the pub and they started scrubbing tables! Otherwise perfect!

A truly lovely gastronpub which relaxes you immediately on arrival with very friendly owners and wonderful interior. We ate the Christmas menu of Venision Wellington, fantastic dish, not to be missed. I loved the surprises of lovely mulled wine, great coffee and petit fours to compliment a fantastic lunch with friends. We will certainly visit again soon.

The Candlelight is a beautiful old pub in a lovely setting. Its chic but cosy and casual ,has a lovely garden so its a perfect place for eating out on a summer evening and the food is varied interesting and delicious without being fussy and precious. The service is also friendly and prfessional and they go out of their way to make sure everything is right for you. They made a gorgeous surprise birthday dessert for my sobn last week and didn't charge us for it! Thank you and please keep doing what you're doing;we'll be back soon!

This was our second visit to Candlelight with the previous visit being 18 months ago. The first visit was brilliant in all respects. The service let this one down and so we got up to pay at the bar and did not stay for dessert as we had waited so long. Maybe there were not enough staff. It was obvious that the people who visit this eatery more frequently were much better served than us. If you can forgive this, it will be worth it to try their amazing 5* food.

Wow!! What a find. Such friendly warm and welcoming atmosphere the minute you walk in. Mike had brought a touch of sophistication but without spoiling the relaxed nature of the restaurant. Even if you don’t like gin, you have to try a gin and tonic from the extensive range. Food is terrific with everything to suit all tastes, portion sizes and budgets. This will be a must stop on route to the west county every time we go..... which will hopefully be very soon. Thanks to all the staff for making a wonderful beginning to our weekend.

Our second meal here and we weren't disappointed! This time we brought some friends who were visiting from London. I wanted to make sure we went somewhere that combines rustic charm with delicious food and the Candelight completely fits the bill. I had mussels followed by duck, both of which were top notch, and everyone else said their food was excellent too. The wine was great (and very well recommended by our friendly waitress). I'm gluten free and there was loads of choice on the menu. It's not cheap but it's totally worth what you pay.
