Candlelight Inn Ratings and Reviews
Wow!! What a find. Such friendly warm and welcoming atmosphere the minute you walk in. Mike had brought a touch of sophistication but without spoiling the relaxed nature of the restaurant. Even if you don’t like gin, you have to try a gin and tonic from the extensive range. Food is terrific with everything to suit all tastes, portion sizes and budgets. This will be a must stop on route to the west county every time we go..... which will hopefully be very soon. Thanks to all the staff for making a wonderful beginning to our weekend.
Our second meal here and we weren't disappointed! This time we brought some friends who were visiting from London. I wanted to make sure we went somewhere that combines rustic charm with delicious food and the Candelight completely fits the bill. I had mussels followed by duck, both of which were top notch, and everyone else said their food was excellent too. The wine was great (and very well recommended by our friendly waitress). I'm gluten free and there was loads of choice on the menu. It's not cheap but it's totally worth what you pay.
We were shown to our table straightaway and our drinks, together with dipping bread in oil and balsamic vinegar accompanied our drinks. Their was a full a la cartel menu, together with a.lunchtime special one. The food was delicious and service was good. It is obviously popular as it was a midweek lunchtime booking, and filled up rapidly.
This was our second visit to the candlelight and we were thoroughly pleased again. Menu was similar to our last visit and was seasonal and imaginative. Service was prompt and considerate, food was excellent and interesting - halloumi chips are a revelation! And the mussels are to die for! Everyone clearly fattened up before harvesting. It is a little pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
I visited The Candlelight Inn for dinner recently, part of a small family gathering. We were all very impressed and well satisfied with our evening and thought it represented very good value.
We received a warm welcome on arrival and were soon seated at our table. The dining room is an extension of the bar area but nevertheless cosy.
We went straight to the main courses ordering the burger (“probably the best burger I have ever tasted”), the fish and chips, the baked sea bass and the breast of duck. All dishes were attractively presented, well cooked and in ample portions. I had the duck and it was juicy, tender and nicely seasoned. Not often you get duck as good as this. To complete our meal the desserts were everything you would expect them to be. Throughout, the service was excellent.
Based on our experience I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment and will be looking forward to my next visit.
We were staying in the area and The Candlelight Inn was recommended and it did not disappoint. Its a lovely old pub with a very good restaurant. The menu is not huge but that goes to show that everything is cooked to order and fresh, which it was. The front of house manager took time to talk us through our chosen dishes which were scallops to start, followed by Brill with Risotto Noir and Calamari with my sister ordering Seafood Risotto which she said was delicious. Beautifully cooked, piping hot and as fresh as anything. The wine was reasonably priced and good quality. Booking is essential especially at the weekend.
Booked online. It was a recommendation fromm the the b and b we were staying at. Arrived a bit early but table was already laid. Had time for a drink in the garden before our meal Received a warm friendly welcome on arrival followed by excellent food. Would definitely recommend.
We have dined at the Candlelight Inn before and it is always a pleasure and gives us much satisfaction.
I should like to say a 'big' thank you to the chef and the rest of the staff for my delicious surprise birthday sweet. It was very much appreciated.
We will be back.
This was the second time of eating at the candlelight. Both times we have had excellent food and excellent service. Especially when one of the dishes had an accompany ingredient that I didn't like and they swapped it for an alternative no problem so I could still have the dish I fancied.
Although the guide menu on the website gives you a good idea of what to expect it doesn't give you the current variation/content of some of the dishes.
A-MAZING!! Went for Sunday lunch and this pub is beautiful. Set in an idyllic village in Somerset, the decor is lovely and the gardens stunning. The food and service were first class, so if you are ever passing by, be sure to drop in as you won't be disappointed.
Candlelight Inn was a great find! We stopped of on the way back to London from Cornwall for lunch. The food was delicious and there was a great selection - everyone in our party had food envy but enjoyed what they had too. Cosy pub that is perfect for any occassion
Having been to the Candlelight Inn before we were eager to go for another visit. We had heard that it had changed hands, so we were a bit apprehensive. On arrival we were met with a warm welcome and shown to a table, the menu was great and the quality of the food was excellent. The pub has lost none of it's previous charm and the new owners have done an excellent job on keeping up the high standards. We will definitely be returning.
A wonderful evening with excellent service throughout.
The food was delicious, cooked to perfection. We ate rump steak, wild mushroom tortellini and trout with roasted fennel and new potatoes. Follows by amazing desserts: Roasted peaches with frangipane and raspberry sorbet, pistachio, chocolate tart and chocolate brownie with ice-cream. We were looked after very well.
