Candlelight Inn
Mike, Simon and the team run this happy, vibrant country pub.
Flint walls, wooden floors and open fires
Gravity pulled beer, local ciders and good food served daily
Locals at the bar and a warm and friendly atmosphere
A blooming garden for barbecues and sunshine
Big dining room for private functions and larger parties
Very good sunday lunch, good content, well presented, dog friendly, served in the evening
Warm and welcoming with great restaurant food and service
If you book a table ask not to be seated in the extension. We had a bright emergency light above our heads & no atmosphere.
Great food, attentive staff, friendly atmosphere. Will return soon and recommend to friends.
Our first visit but it certainly won’t be the last! Fantastic atmosphere and food. I can’t believe we have only just discovered it when we’re only 15 minutes away. A real gem and our new ‘regular’!
Found bones in my Rabbit starter.
Lack of vegetables in the main (T-bone steak that was shared)
We took our granddaughter and we all had a wonderful time- the high-chair was already at the table and there was a reasonable choice for a baby...she had tagliatelle and mushrooms. We chose from the lunchtime Valentine’s Day menu; an excellent lemon sole for my wife and a superb rare steak with all the trimmings for me. Needless to say a certain baby-girl ‘stole’ some of my chips!
Another superb evening of quality dining. The staff really understand how to make you welcome and to look after you.
The Candlelight is a lovely place to dine, the beef is second to none, the only reason I don't give it excellent is because I'm not keen on the vegetables, apart from the roast potatoes which really are excellent.
What a gem of place . Warmly greeted by friendly staff . Modern yet traditional feel to the place . Very efficient service . Food was lovely with excellent home cooked taste . We had the Sunday roast sharing platter . It was more than enough which complimented the price. I was more impressed with their friendly service and the attention we received . Reading the gin information on the tables was interesting and a member of staff pointed out a few interesting fact sharing my enthusiasm and love for gin . It gained a sell in gin !
Look forward to returning soon
Friendly, professional service. Outstanding food.
As usual, we had a delightful meal in all respects.
Enjoyed lunch with a friend I hadn't seen for sometime. The Inn was very warm and cosy. Also quiet which meant we could have a conversation without competing with piped music. Only downside was that there were only 3 choices on lunchtime menu; one meat, one fish and one vegetarian. Will certainly be going again.
The first time I have visited the Candlelight Inn for a Birthday Meal ( Mother-in-Law 94th Birthday)
Everyone enjoyed the ambience and the food a good find will be visiting again.
Excellent as always. We particularly enjoyed the venison
A welcoming log fire on a cold night in a country pub. The bar area was very busy and vibrant when we arrived and but a little calmer in the restaurant although a little chilly to start with.
Food was very good. We had the Hock fritter to start and the cod and Pork belly, both were very nice.
This was the 3rd time I have been to the restaurant in the past 3 months and the food has been excellent on each occasion.
We were greeted with A warm, friendly reception and served lovely food
Fantastic food would highly recommend, staff friendly excellent and quick service
Very good as always. Our Xmas venue for Christmas Eve celebrations! Love the ambiance welcoming feel and food.
Total perfection - extremely friendly, amazing food, stunning decor, good service etc etc.
We find it hard to even consider going anywhere else for a meal .
Excellent customer service, food was delicious and affordable, Mike and Simon and staff friendly and lovely ambiance. Roll on New Years Eve. 😃😃🍾🍾
Fabulous food, with fabulous hosts and fabulous ambience and a fabulous place! Well worth a visit. All already trying to work out when we go again.
Warm, friendly and welcoming staff that couldn't have been any more attentive. Food Lovely and not slow in coming out either. Only downside for me is that I would have liked alternative potato options but other than that I could not fault it and will definitely be going back.
Rather disappointing. Rather pricey for what is essential Pub food. Strongly suggest you ask chef to provide thin chips (French fries) rather than, or as alternative, to soggy English chips.
Limited wine list...... limited essentially to new world wines.
Empty apero glasses remained on dining table until I had to ask for them to be removed. Not a lot of space on table for 2.
Everyone kept tripping over a dog in the walkway between 2 tables. No problem with dogs in pub but servers should have told owners to relocate the dog to another position .
I've used this lovely pub several times and it never fails to impress me and my friends/family. Great atmosphere with lovely log fires relax you before being entertained with delicious food and wines/ beers.
Excellent lunch as ever. Friendly service and great food.
Excellent sunday lunch and great value for money. Delicious!
I haven't eaten better beef anywhere, it was excellent, the decor very pleasant, the staff efficient and friendly, my only criticism was the choice of vegetables, I do love vegetables and as I am very well travelled I have dined in many countries but I never did work out what one certain vegetable was, it looked like rhubarb, I tried it as I don't like being beaten, I found it tough and had to leave it.
Went for a first date and she enjoyed the ambience and the great food 😊 thank you to all at the candlelight Inn for your hospitality and friendly service. I'll be sure to book up in the future, hopefully with the same girl haha
Fantastic country pub, always a friendly atmosphere and the food is fab!
We really like the ambience of this restaurant and despite our table being surrounded by families with young children, we had a lovely social time with our friends.
The wine was excellent and the food in general was good but the lamb and beef in our main course was cold. I love sprouts, and we always have our vegetables 'al dente', but unfortunately ours were as close to raw as they could manage.
We could have complained but that often ruins the overall success of the meal. We still like the place and would go again but it is hard to erase a negative memory. More effort is needed with the overall quality and particularly with the presentation of the food.
Lovely surroundings , excellent meal but very expensive especially the desserts
My friends and I had a lovely time there, the food was delicious well presented, very attentive staff over all great experience.
Had a brilliant 60th Birthday. Food great, very good value. Food caters for most tastes. Warm cosy feel with very friendly staff . Wish we had. Pub like this near us.... give this pub a try you will definitely not be disappointed what a gem!!!!
Amazing staff and food
As always our visit to The Candlelight was delightful with an innovative menu and fine wines.
This pub doesn't stand still!
See you soon :)
Excellent as usual, Mike is a superb host and the food delicious
Always have good time- food exceptional usually, but Sunday lunch Vegas were over cooked and rather meagre!! You were exceptionally busy though, and everything else was really good.
Excellent Gastro pub perfect for special occasions
We have eaten several times at Candlelight. In this part of Somerset there is not much choice and it is nice to have a good foody destination close at hand. The menu is varied and caters for most tastes. The food is good but fairly pricey - a two course dinner for 4 with a drink each, plus tip, came to £140. The service is good and ambience is cosy and comfortable
