Arrived for time booked but Canvas closed ..... and has been for about two months according to hotel next door. Not great to be left in west London with no reservation for elsewhere! Advised OpenTable at the time so most annoying that it is still on system and I am being asked to review.
Closed. No notice, no sign, no phone call to parties with reservations
We saw this through search engine and decided to try, read the reviews and thought let's give it a shot. Everyone seems to stress not one single person had a clue on service. It was like a nightmare, am American woman took my order who total got it all wrong. What a disaster
Food was a total bismal, steak under cooked, chicken joojeh very dry and tasteless. Don't waste your time here
This place has no sense of direction with managers and good staff their lost
It's a serious meltdown be warned
Reasonably friendly service....dull tasteless food.
food was not all great, dry bland. good selection of wines. nice place with music
service was a delight, a young man took care of us superb. he suggested a few cocktails first at the bar. really enjoyable
This Resturant was a lovely little find. Great food, good ambience and wonderful service. Thank you to Damian for looking after our every need
Chateaubriand amazingly done, my seabass with grapefruit was thumbs up. Service from the manager was excellent. We had a great night and you will soon see us back
Enjoyable. Greeted at the bottom of the stairs with courtesy. Had drinks at the bar ,
Passion fruit martini was a delight there was just one young guy seems like the manager \ waiter and bartender who was very attentive, smiling and gave us good insights on the menu .
His recommendation on the Coyom Chilean wine was superb. Well recommended and will be back
Nice ambience and courteous service, but neither can make up for the disappointing quality of the food, which lacked flavour and imagination, and the poor presentation. There is a huge mismatch between the culinary aspirations described on the website and the reality.
Verlocity guided us to canvas. Everything was spectacular from starters; Pea soup to main course; veal and seabass. Damian had taken care of us, the young man was very helpful and knowledgable
Another night return will be, spreading the work we shall really great location and lovely Restuarant
Closed too many times, seems like the owners haven't got a clue how to run a Restuarant.food is dull an away, not even real French
Night as well go to Colbert instead
My wife thought canvas was a club. But this cute little Restuarant is a good find, we were guided to the bar for drinks. After drinks we went to our table it seemed like a good choice, the restaurant was busy.
That's when it all went all wrong , The waiter we believe was French, who took our order seemed flustered, shaky, and we couldn't understand him
He couldn't even repeat our orders back. When the starters came its was all wrong only three starters came instead of four. The waiter did not even come to us for an apology,
You would think in a restaurant like this, There would be class and good service.
It was not a pleasant evening, the waiter talking loudly in the back since his mistake with us, he wouldnt acknowledge us throughout the service leaving the manager to do his job.
Overall, this as not enjoyable at all. Starters was good, mains was bland with the substitute minute steak was rubbery and mash potatoes stone cold.
My friends fish dish tasted like it was microwaved, when desserts came I had the chocolate brownie which was unedible, rock hard.
Poor service! Bland food! Let.s hope the next time it will be better
We found that we were one of only 3 or 4 tables which meant there was little atmosphere and felt a bit uncomfortable for a Friday night. The food was nice, but the service was awful, wrong food delivered, learning over dinners to collect things and several other mistakes you don't expect when paying so much money. Wouldn't dream of ever going back.
We went for brunch and the service wasn't great. We weren't 'allowed' to order our dessert separately from our main. We had to order both together because our waiter thought it might get busy. I had the burger which was okay, but my sister's Eggs Benedict came on stale bread. The prosecco was nearly flat. Then after we left, the manager shouted out to us to see if we had paid their service charge. We had but incredibly unprofessional, he then continue to shout down the street that we should come down. Just a very bizarre experience.
Good food, served quickly. I was particularly impressed by the leek and potato soup and the beef cheeks bourguinon from the fixed price menu. Friendly service with just the right amount of attention. Enjoyed the background music too!
We came for dinner at this hidden gem between Knightsbridge and Chelsea . Fantastic find, fantastic food and cocktails. The bar waiter recommended the Bourgogne Pinot noir with our lamb and hake. As we had some wine left and the waiter suggested the cheese plate which went done perfect.
The decor was amazing with the jazz music playing , canvas is a perfect place for a perfect date to a regular dine out .
Must try the tartare served with Tabasco and Worcester sauce recommended by the waiter. It's was a fantastic night and we shall return
Underground dive. Eighties feel. Quite empty with untrained staff. Very convenient for Cadogan Hall but wont go there again. Main course was good (beef shin stew) but first course (soup) was awful.
I met a friend here for the bottomless branch on Saturday. The place is nicely decorated and was quite busy so had a good lively atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was of a good standard if not a little small in portion size. This might have been my fault as I ordered the salmon as a main but it was smaller than my started and so it might have been helpful if the waiter had told me about the size difference. The brunch is good value and while I wouldn't say this was amazing it was very good and I would go again.
very pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant; nice design internally;
Food: very nicely put together menu, we were very excited about the food; I ordered crab meat in brioche bun, and my boyfriend went for croque fromage sandwich. I got a huge bun with almost no crab meat, and my boyfriend got the smallest sandwich possible nothing looking as the croque fromage. We were still holding our hopes for the desert though as the place itself was really nice, the waiters were service good bloody merrys and prosecco. To our greatest disappointment the desert was worse than the main. I don’t even have words to describe it we simply sent it back. The waiter was very polite and offered us to choose something else but we didn’t want to order another awful desert.
I really regret spending £40 on that experience, we left hungry.
Having realised I had booked a table for 8 for a birthday meal on the wrong date with 3 hours to go before the guests arrived....I had a bit of a panic. Where on a Friday night could you find a decent restaurant that would seat that number at 8:30pm in SW3 at the eleventh hour?? Amazingly and gratefully I found Canvas. The manager could not have been more welcoming and nicer. The food was delicious and courses appeared promptly. We were given a circular table so we could all chat easily. I was really impressed and importantly so were my guests. A real gem of a place that deserves more good publicity. An enormous thankyou to the manager, chef and team for making (and saving) the evening!
Lovely meal in a restaurant tucked behind Sloane Square, but oh so quiet! Not sure why Canvas has not been discovered but needs people to give it a vibe. I hope people discover it soon.
Great brunch spot! Waiters were fabulous and funny.
We were expecting a very good meal but it was banal. The bouillabaisse bore no relationship to this wonderful concoction I often order. I've had it in at least 20 restaurants all over. This was the worst by far -- none of the classic elements to speak of, thick brown pasty liquid with mostly potato in it and two very small pieces of fish. No mussels, no prawns, no calamari. Save your money. Eat somewhere else.
My wife and I went there midweek and shared the chateaubriand which was fantastic with truffle mash. Found the staff knowledgeable and attentive.
The ambience was relaxed and unhurried which suited us. We will be back shortly.
Dinner at Canvas on Thursday during London Fashion Week. The restaurant was surprisingly empty at just past 9pm. Maybe it was the cold weather.
The service was impeccable. Guests could not have been treated better than that - everybody was attentive around us as if we were royals. Talking of the food, veal ran out that night, so we had beef cheeks instead. It was tender yet greasy. Good for a very cold night. I enjoyed it very much, although a more lively ambience would have been appreciated.
Thank you. Hope to be back!
The food was lovely and the wine list was vast. If it had been full, it would have been perfect. I think this restaurant needs to get marketing and get some people in!
We booked Canvas primarily as it was so close to Cadogan Hall - about a minutes walk! When we ate there, there was a function just finishing so it was a bit chaotic BUT we were very well looked after by the staff. We were called before hand to warn us that this function would overun, they recommended a slightly later start time but they guaranteed that we would still make the theatre. All of this happened and I am very grateful they took the time to tell us in advance AND to deal with it in advance - impressive. The food was really good and we felt looked after and unrushed despite the large number of people at the function. All in all this was a good restaurant with good food and good service. Recommended.
The restaurant was dead on a Saturday night. Been before, however it seems to have lost some of its previous charm.
Booked a table for 2 at 9 for Valentine's day. It is a shame that the Chateaubriand (tenderloin) and the Chocolate Fondant were sold out. The staffs continuously praised the Chateaubriand even though it was sold out, which was obviously bad news for my stomach. The atmosphere was pretty overwhelming with hearts dangling everywhere. Old school music played in the background, a tad bit loud. The manager and staffs were very helpful and polite. Will definitely recommend my friends.
Fantastic food in quite a unique surrounding. Tucked away just off Sloane Street, this resturant served exquisite food and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend.
The most amazing service if you wish to be treated like a king & queen. V impressive! Simple but very atmospheric setting. Great little "romantic" booth. Food very good, but somewhat lacking in vegetables. Rather expensive given the quality of food.
Fabulous 8 course degustation dinner for NYE. Staff were extremely attentive and provided an excellent service. Food was scrumptious! Thanks
Excellent food, service, attention to detail and ability to adapt to diners needs.
A great little venue with fantastic food and excellent service. Set menus are outstanding value. Highly recommended!
Little fireplace in the corner by the bar was a great surprise and we enjoyed a post dinner chat there on the couches.
We visited when attending a RPO concert at Cadogan Hall, the restaurant is in an excellent location only minutes away. A first visit here but hopefully not the last as the meal was superb in every respect. Attentive service without being overpowering, food with lovely flavours excellently prepared and served, plus a bottle of wine at a very reasonable price - considering the location! Definitely one to go for and we hope to find another occasion to visit again.
I came to Canvas with my friend for dinner and we really enjoyed the overall experience. The hostess was very nice and welcoming and took us to our table. After we were greeted by the sommelier and the waitress who handed over our menus. We picked the A La Carte menu and we really enjoyed every dish and every glass of wine that the sommelier recommended for us! The service was outstanding, our waitress was well informed of the dishes and explained to us what was included in each one and the place looks lovely! The Christmas decorations around look lovely and the warm atmosphere in the venue made the evening very relaxing for us after work.
Delicious food at Canvas!
I had a lovely dinner with my partner and we enjoyed the Christmas warmth of the venue and a designed menu for Christmas period. The place looks lovely, very cosy and the service is very welcoming, the sommelier picked out the perfect wine for each dish we had and the presentation of the food was beautiful and tasty! We were left the restaurant very impressed with our first dining experience at Canvas!
Maybe the kitchen had forgotten to put in a produce order that day or perhaps the restaurant was on an economy drive, either way the portion sizes of the dishes served to us were so small they could have passed for children's starters. In case you think I'm exaggerating, here are a couple of examples:
1) My scallop starter (recommended by the ever-hovering waitress) consisted of one scallop sliced into three, on a pile of nut crumbs.
2) My friend finished her minuscule lamb 'cutlets' before the mashed potato accompaniment arrived ie it took her two minutes to find and eat all the meat off the bones.
As I said, eat before you get to the restaurant or you'll leave hungry, and with a suspicion you've been conned!
We booked this for our anniversary and we so looking forward to a lovely meal. Unfortunately this was not t case from th moment we tried to access th restaurant- th entrance way and hostess as flustered and we were kept waiting outside in th cold while she took down other diners waiting and collected coats for departing guests. She then proceeded to take us downstairs - and actually did not even say anything. We promptly found ourselves to th bar and seating and then waited 15 mins or so before we went to the bar and asked if we could be served. The barman promptly waved over a young waitress who seemed to not understand English very well as we had to repeat our drinks ord a few times. Th barman than usher us to our table which was fine, but then we were trying to attract a waitress' attention to order a glass of wine. We ended up at th bar where we asked if we could see a wine list. Again th barman was on it and waved over a waitress who seemed like she was waitressing for the very first time.
Have to say the barman made amazing cocktail and he genuinely seemed the only one of the staff who knew what he was doing as well as being a great bartender.
Now for the food- ordered starter of the scallop which was nice however for 13.50 expected 3 scallops not 2, more of the sauce required and ease up on th granola please - way too much granola and way too little of the sauce which was more like a small smear.
Main course- ordered the sea bass broth which for me was too salty, other half had th meat and he said it was lovely.. Had t cheese to finish - not a great cheese selection if I am honest and we both love cheese.
Overall a real disappointment. Service really really let this place down. You need to train staff!! Food - I think has the capacity to be amazing, thy just need to think about it. Would not recommend unfortunately.
We opted for the 3 courses and cocktail for £27 deal, but when we got there, there was not much variety on the set menu. We ended up ordering from the main menu instead.
Food was very very tasty, but unfortunately not enough of it. The portions were tiny. The service was excellent. Probably wouldn't eat there again, only because of the size of the portions, which cost us just under £90 for the two of us for 2 course and a drink each.
Can't fault the wonderful tasting food and service though.
