Great ambiance, fantastic food, good service - a perfect spot for lunch mid-week.
I had been to this restaurant before, The food was great, the ambience good. This time I'm afraid our service was poor, the guy seemed inexperienced and forgot us frequently, I had to go up and ask for more drinks etc. It really did knock the shine off our family weekend meal, which was a shame. He seemed a bit miffed not to receive the full 'suggested' tip! I'm not sure i would go back :(
The food was excellent (especially the pork belly, coppa and cod dumplings) with a few things I didn’t like probably as personal taste (smoked salmon caesar, pan-fried cod). The restaurant was beautiful and all the staff were quite elegant but it was a little loud and they were perhaps short-handed. Looks like they have some interested milks and juices during the day. The bathrooms used excellent locally-sourced cedar-verbena soaps from Montamonta.
The noise levels are incredibly and uncomfortably high. Can the acoustics be improved? You could put rugs on the ceiling or use other sound proofing to improve to ambiance. We could hear everyone else’s conversations and there quite a few loud groups. Otherwise, the food was great but the servers didn’t seem to communicate with each other. I like the vibe except for all the noise!
Great service and gorgeous food - we were only supposed to stay for a quick dinner but ended up staying for hours because it was such a good atmosphere
Everything was great except that my wife and I both had very upset stomachs afterwards. Shame!
Great for post matinee pre performance at Menier chocolate factory. A mix of small plates tibgled the taste buds! Perfect.
Food and coffee was delicious, service was fine. Disappointed that my daughter's fresh orange juice was served to her in a plastic cup with plastic lid and plastic straw - not cool.
Relaxing and good food - very good choice of veggie/vegan plates.
Lovely venue, great food and friendly service. Would definitely revisit
Delicious food, friendly staff and a really great atmosphere. Love the mix of cuisines and the pork belly was insaaaaane
Sea bass was good the rest ordinary
A nice restaurant for a business lunch - can be a tad noisy at the height of lunchtime, however.
Amazing vegetarian and plant-based options on the menu. Had a salad bowl and 3 small plates between two at lunch, all delicious. Highly recommend!
Loved the food and great service in a really nicely designed space. Didn’t love the mixed sex toilets.
Loved it -- far exceeded my expectations! Proper vegan food -- proper piles of beans, lentils etc (not just token sprinkles) and big portions of cruciferous green veg (not just token garnish-like amounts). And not just the portions, but deliciously flavorful too -- with creative and judicious use of herbs, spices, and pastes (not overwhelming gloopy sauces). And delicious cod too -- we had the crispy cod and the cod dumplings (proper big chunks of cod, with a thin dumpling wrap -- rather than the reverse!) If I lived in the area, I'd be going everyday. Thank you, Caravan, for caring and for being in the world!
Foolish me booked my table for wrong day but manager was so accommodating and managed to fit us in and made some space for us at the bar while we waited for tables to be cleared. The food was delicious, service was great and he atmosphere was lovely, I’d definitely come again.
It was a bit too loud for a restaurant, but I guess they are now more a bar?! Still, the food was pretty good and the service was attentive.
Went for a family birthday meal. Good food, good vibe although a little noisy for some of our party. Waiter started clearing starter plates before we had all finished and main course arrived soon after starters finished. This made us feel slightly rushed.
When we finished eating. Nobody came to us. We stayed 20 minutes invisible in front of people from the Staff. My Sister and i had to stand up and walk to the door to be seen !
I love this find. Manage to get a table there both times I tried and it wasn't packed, or too noisy (which pleased other members of the party). Everyone loved the food - mix of Veggie, fish and meat dishes. The atmosphere was lovely and we weren't hurried either but still well-served. So many nice dishes to try, bound to be back.
Service was not great - food all came out at different times. Forgot my coffee at the end. A lunch took 3 hours - which was far too long.
Lovely lunch at Caravan. Staff were very good at providing info on gluten free info and cross contamination. There was one misunderstanding where we were told we couldn't have avocado without salt on it by kitchen staff...but our wonderful waiter quickly sorted it.
Great breakfast place and atmosphere
Nice funky venue. A little loud to have a chat with friends. Decent pizzas. Very friendly and attentive staff.
Tasty food if slightly overpriced. Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff, made for a fun and relaxed evening with friends.
Very tasty food, lovely server, bit noisy, great shame they ran out of their recommended rose and couldn't sell us a second bottle !
Great atmosphere; spacious seating; quiet on a Wednesday evening in August. The food was delicious. Would definitely return.
Very good ambiance and great food. Some great dishes in small plates/bowls.
I've been to Caravan Bankside on a busy evening and had found it slightly too noisy but in my last visit on a Saturday afternoon, it was more chilled and lively rather than noisy - which was great.
The service was very good as well, the staff was friendly.
Service was fabulous, food was delicious. A really lovely night out. Atmosphere laid back but chic.
Tasty breakfast dishes and all round great service!
Caravan bucks the trend with its inventive menu. Thoroughly enjoyed my two Small Plates: Braised puy lentils, green beans, avocado, pecans, pomegranate tahini and Spiced cauliflower, harissa, pomegranate yoghurt, nigella. Then I was blown away by my dessert of Frozen kaffir lime mousse, blueberry compote, pumpkin praline. It was all delicious though some more affordable NZ wines would have been welcome.
Amazing! Would go again!!
Cozy place, beautiful food and excellent service!! Highly recommend!
We went for a week day lunch with a friend and I'd heard great things about Caravan so was really looking forward to it. The food was delicious - so fresh and tasty, and the decor and ambience were great too. The only downside was the service, which was some of the worst I've experienced in a long time. I'm not sure if they were under staffed or the waitress was new, but after waiting ages we had to wave someone down to get served. When she stopped she wasn't particularly friendly and ran off after taking our order without even asking my friend if he'd like to drink. So we had to wave her down again to order another drink which she then forgot about. Eventually we received all our food and drinks, but it definitely put me off a bit. If they could train the waiters and waitresses better I'll think they'd be on to a winner. So all in all lovely food, but terrible service.
Brilliant service and really delicious food - I’ll be back soon
Table was 15mins late being ready.
Didn’t think it was clear that on a Sunday only the Brunch menu was available even for reservations at 2.15pm.
Having the air con on strong as well as the windows fully open was a bit crazy and not very good on an environment basis. Music was fairly loud for me.
food was good although disappointed some things on the menu were not available only found this out later on.
service was poor, slow, didn't care did not match up to the food experience.
music was too loud
