Carters of Moseley
Chef Brad Carter is passionate about everything British, focussing on wild & organic ingredients carefully selected from local & sustainable suppliers, often to taste & texture to form a distinct, considered reflection of the season. Together with partner Holly, they have created a relaxed & informal Neighbourhood restaurant full of passion.
The drinks offering is also organic highlighting bio-dynamic agriculture wherever possible & featuring many natural, minimal intervention wines. A true reflection of natures bounty & thoughtful winemaking.
At Carters, flavour is of the upmost importance & the expression is warm, refreshing & inspired.
Amazing experience, great service from entry to exit, it was our 11th wedding anniversary so we decided to see what Carters had to offer.
Firstly they had adapted my wife’s menu as she is 6 months pregnant, they explained both food and drink menu in great detail.
Every dish was presented to the highest standard, and tasted wonderful.
Overall we will booking again and would fully recommend people to sample and enjoy Carters of Moseley.
Also great to see a homegrown Birmingham lad representing our great city!!
Great food, great wine, great service, great atmosphere.
Put simply - Stunning.
I love this place so I am quite biased. This was a brilliant collaboration between two chefs at the top of their game. Lovely food, challenging at times, served immaculately in a relaxed atmosphere. Wine list to match well done everybody and thank you!
My partner and I really enjoyed our night with Carters. The service was outstanding from the start and the food was exceptional. I booked the meal to celebrate my partner’s new job and both the serving staff and the chef made the night really special. The chef even sent out a chocolate bar and a note to congratulate him. Overall we had an amazing night and will definitely be back again!
Love the attentiveness of the staff (low water refills on point) and their very knowledgeable approach towards your food. My vegetarian 8 course menu was very well thought through and different to others I’ve previously tried at different establishments so I was pleasantly surprised as normally I cannot escape a beetroot-themed dish. The decor could do with just a little ‘umph’ and maybe more than one restroom cubicle per gender. Overall, I was very impressed and can see why they have the reputation that they do, and I’d happily dine there again. Their own made Gin was absolutely delightful - I wouldn’t mind popping in just for that!
Perfect in every way. Love the ethics of Carters. The team have got it all just right.
The food is just amazing well done Carters
Understated frontage hides a true gem within. From the moment you are greeted at the door, you are made to feel like honoured guests. The decor is fairly plain but no bad thing at that..
The drinks menu has a truly interesting beer (just look for the word jam) and has enough choice to satisfy all
The food... well you know if the restaurant has a Michelin star, it’s going to be well seasoned and eclectic. An eight course tasting menu sounds like it might be a struggle but each course was perfectly sized and well paced
Star for me was the mullet fillet: serious piece of cooking. Honourable mention must go the malt loaf and to the cheesecake too.
A great experience and one I will be only too happy to repeat
We had an amazing time.Food was exquisite & every course was explained
Atmosphere was perfect!
Excellent service!! Really made us feel special.
Lots of courses and decided not to look at menu so each was a surprise. Great wine options and assistance.
I have been dining at Carters for sometime now and I can honestly say it is my best restaurant EVER!
We love it there. The team are amazing, talented, welcomes and each time we are there is the perfect dining experience.
Then you have the food!!! Well, what can I say! It’s quite simply the best.
Thank you Brad, Holly and Team. You never fail to please. X
The food was outstanding. It was clear that a gargantuan amount of thought and effort had gone into making every mouthful delicious. The service was incredible: every staff member was attentive and you could tell that they genuinely cared about making the customer experience exceptional. It was my first ever experience of fine dining, and it was a perfect introduction into that world - amazing food, lovely staff and atmosphere but with none of the pretension. Moseley is lucky to have Carters.
Nice relaxed atmosphere with a view of the kitchen. All of the serving staff were knowledgeable and friendly and seemed passionate about the 'no waste' ethos of the restaurant.
As our party walked into the restaurant for lunch we were greeted by smiling staff and shown to our table. As we enjoyed a drink ( and the ladies of the party certainly can recommend Carters own gin with tonic) we decided on the 6 course lunch menu and were guided through our wine choices by a knowledgable and helpful sommelier who kindly gave us a taste of a variety of wines to enable us to choose. It's difficult to single out any dish in particular, the snacks were delicious, especially the porthilly oyster. The Cornish ray just melted in the mouth and the Winslade Malt loaf sublime. The restaurant is not big but I think this adds to the ambience, it is a jolly place. All credit to chef for his innovative and seasonal food and his staff or their helpful, knowledgeable friendliness.
A sublime culinary journey, service so good I feel genuine love for the staff, simple humble restaurant but the food! Food as an art form, pure joy!
One of the best Mitchelin restaurants we have visited on the level with Adams and The Neptune in Norfolk. A really super evening on all counts.
This place is amazing - the staff so knowledgeable, the food was breathtaking, the drinks selection was very interesting & tasty, we loved Holly, Brad, Alex & the team, the evening really was special. Words do not do it justice, I shall obviously be recommending & visiting again. Well done Guys, you over delivered & made me feel like I was part of your family!!
All four of us had thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the staff are friendly and attentive. Although it is on the pricey side but for celebrations and special occasions, it is worth it.
It was a great dining experience from the warm welcome to the great food to the information about each dish. I would strongly recommend getting the wine that goes with each course and the great information that goes with each. If you don't want to drink too much get it for one and share it. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere we could enjoy together.
Carters is just the most amazing experience in Birmingham. The food is always superb but it's the service, friendliness and attention to detail that make this a truly special place. When you return to Carters you feel like you're meeting up with family. We can't recommend this place enough. It's our favourite michellin star restaurant in the world!
Arrival was so welcoming, making sure we felt comfortable and relaxed, the staff were lovely and very knowledgable about the food and drink they served. Holly the maitre d was amazing, worked closely with us ensuring we selected the right bottle of red wine but giving us many to taste from prior to selection. Unfortunately for the 4 of us the food did not reach our high expectations, we have eaten at many restaurants of this standard and get really excited about our tastebuds being awakened and challenged. It started on such a positive note with the first snack of the Chicken liver cereal but sadly nothing else reached more than mediocre at best. It was generally felt that the dishes as a whole were visually dull and beige and that several of the sauces overpowered the taste of the delicate fish, especially the razor clams and Cornish Ray. We left with a great feeling of disappointment and honestly quite shell shocked. Therefore overall it felt we paid a lot of money for a meal we did not enjoy.
One of the achievements of Carters of Mosley isn’t just the outstanding food - it’s their fantastic approach to hospitality. It’s as warm and welcoming as any other neighbourhood restaurant but with a sense that everybody there wants to be there.
We were guided to some perfect wine for lunch by our hosts - we were given a selection to sample - and were even given a little cheat card written out by the sommelier to take to our next stop (so we could pass ourselves off as experts).
If you want to experience lovely people doing lovely things with food and drink then you should be here. And be here often.
Also the oyster in beef fat and the pork and cabbage is still making me happy.
First class restaurant. My second visit here and was so good to see new things on the menu so soon: The skate and the pork were incredible. The entire team make it an amazing experience - thank you!
Wonderful food and a really friendly and welcoming experience. A truly fantastic evening!
Amazing, we loved it
Food was incredible and the service was very laid back but at the same time absolutely on point.
Highly recommend amazing dining experience
Thank you to Holly and Brad and their team for a wonderful night of fantastic food, wine and services.
We were amazed by the textures, flavours smells and composition of each of the courses. I highly recommend Caters to anyone. Jeff and Helen
I have been a vegetarian for 7 years now and the vegetarian menu at Carters was my favourite by far! Respect for the ingredients, outstanding hosting team and nice ambience (with nice music playing in the background)! I was also really glad I was invited to visit the kitchen and talk to the team! Awesome experience in every sense. Highly recommendable!
Wonderful food served by very knowledgable staff. The lobster mushroom porridge was a stand out for me. Great place to enjoy a special meal .
One word ... unbelievable.
I didn’t enjoy the food at all I felt almost told off by the maitre d’ when I left part of what they called the main dish of the restaurant because I didn’t eat it, but it was covered with lettuce and a sauce do I couldn’t see the pork, I cut a piece and ate it only to find I was eating a piece of white fat! It was horrible. When asked by the maitre d’ the reason for leaving the course, I was told this was whole point with this specifically chosen cut, and no one had said anything before! I found all the food very greasy very fatty, the sweetbreads were undercooked and covered in lamb fat - just eating pure hot fat! there was hardly anything to the portions were incredibly small, we both could’ve eaten another meal when we got home, and all of this cost us £240. definitely not worth the money, We have been to many Michelin starred restaurants, this is the only one I wouldn’t go back to or recommend, we just found it to be pretentious and expensive.
Friendly knowledgeable staff, nice relaxed atmosphere. Outstanding flavoursome food mainly uk sourced. Definitely on cards to re visit
From the moment we entered the restaurant to the time we left the welcome and service was excellent, the food exceptional, the wines superb and the ambience wonderful. Carters is a happy, friendly and knowledgable team committed to providing a memorable experience.
I would recommend but I would also tell them that I believe it’s expensive for what you get. Had better Michelin star meals, this would not make my top 5.
Great experience for people who appreciate fantastic food and drink.
Service was excellent and the range of the set menu was wide and nicely balanced. The variety of wines was outstanding and the knowledge of the sommelier greatly aided wine choice.
Don't be worried by the pictures on the internet, of what looks like, tiny portions. The 6 course menu, that is actually 13 sumptuously tasty dishes, was more than filling. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable and the dining experience is managed for you, leaving you and you guests time to relax and enjoy the food. Great to find a very different type of eating experience, that ensures memories of a special occasion are good ones.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcomed & relaxed.
The food is so amazing. We’ve been lucky enough to eat at 4 different Michelin starred restaurants now, Carter’s of Moseley has definitely been the best so far!
Just love it here. 3rd visit and never fails to disappoint
Excellent food and wine with all wines available by the glass. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening being a last minute booking. Very attentive service with lots of informative chats regarding the food, wine and coffee. Better than many Michelin star restaurants in London.
I have never been to a michelin star restaurant and so have never had a taster menu.
Went for the 4 course which had 4 small starters with bread and then 3 courses and a desert. Most of the courses was small portions but was more than enough as there were quite a few courses. All the food was delicious.
The staff both the front and kitchen were all very friendly. Each course was explained - about the preparation and where the ingredients came from.
We had a visit to the kitchen and thanked all the staff for the lovely meal. I would highly recommend this place for the food and the staff.
Well deserved michelin star.
Tuesday evening and about half full but a very good experience. Food was innovative and delicious (a couple of combinations not to my liking but that is expected). For a 6 course menu the food just kept on coming. Service was just about right - welcomed personally - recognised my wife's birthday with some nice personal touches - friendly but professional. Shame about the idiot customer but handled well by the staff recognised on the bill.
