Carters of Moseley
Chef Brad Carter is passionate about everything British, focussing on wild & organic ingredients carefully selected from local & sustainable suppliers, often to taste & texture to form a distinct, considered reflection of the season. Together with partner Holly, they have created a relaxed & informal Neighbourhood restaurant full of passion.
The drinks offering is also organic highlighting bio-dynamic agriculture wherever possible & featuring many natural, minimal intervention wines. A true reflection of natures bounty & thoughtful winemaking.
At Carters, flavour is of the upmost importance & the expression is warm, refreshing & inspired.
One of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. Some of the best produce available but also items you would not normal buy or even think of putting together helps creates a stunning menu. Perfectly paired with a brilliant range of wines, sake and cider.
This is then made even better by a well executed service. First class with a personal touch so often missing in fine dining restaurants. This is one restaurant I can’t wait to come back to.
This is not our first time at Carters, but it is great to see that their original high standards have been maintained. We would even say, 'improved' if that was at all possible. Their passion for sourcing and using the best locally produced raw materials is evident in their menu and the food and the drink to accompany it was amazing. The staff were attentive but not overbearing with attention to detail very much the order of the day. We have no hesitation to recommend this gem of a restaurant. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
My experience at Carters of Moseley made my weekend. The restaurant is in a lovely and quiet area of Birmingham, called Moseley. I loved everything, from the food, to the service, to the loos! I had duck, the quality of the meat was outstanding. Also, the oyster cooked in beef fat, OMG!!!! Alex, knew a lot about cocktails and wines and took the time to educate us about everything. At the end of the meal he even printed a list of all restaurants in the area that he would recommend. This is what I call going the extra mile. You never get that in London restaurants, no matter how high end. The experience was lovely, it was my first tasting menu ever and it sets the bar really high. If you go to the loo, you need to use the hand balm....it smells amazing!
Simply outstanding! Second visit for us and this was even better than the last. Flawless friendly service coupled with inventive & utterly delicious food.
To top it off the knowledge and passion of wine particularly organic/biodynamic is exceptional.
Overall zero pretence, maximum enjoyment! You made us feel like old friends popping round for dinner, can’t ask for anything better than that.
Utterly delicious, interesting food - served with passion by the wonderful front of house staff. We had a very memorable evening - for all the right reasons!
What a team! Engaging, knowlegeable, smily altogether a great experience!
Wonderful evening of great food and wine and excellent company. It was my partners birthday and both of us enjoyed the experience thoroughly.
Excellent dinner at Carter’s. The food was lovingly prepared and the ingredients sourced with care. The service was exemplary. Whole experience was superb, would definitely come back and recommend to friends.
We had the 8 course tasting menu with wine parings. All the courses were beautifully cooked and the presentation of the food was interesting, imaginative and fun. The wine parings were interesting and enjoyable. The servers were all fully committed to making the experience relaxed and enjoyable. This is as good as it gets. An absolute delight.
Loved every minute of it
Dont get me wrong, the experience was great fun; brilliant staff and lovely wine, however the food was poor inthought. I asked for a pescatarian menu, whichnqas my choice but the food was nowhere near as good or of as much value as for the meat eater. One dish was a little plant plot with a handful of herbs and whilst my friend had a big piece of beautifully cooked duck wing I had half a potato cake! A shame really
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The real highlights for me and my wife were the scallop, the trout and the duck! Absolutely fantastic.
The service was outstanding. Friendly, helpful but unobtrusive. We will certainly be back! Thanks for making our wedding anniversary so memorable.
With extremely friendly and knowledgable staff, this is a lovely informal restaurant with an intimate atmosphere. The food is sublime and varied with interesting and surprising takes on British classics. Amazing oyster and scallops, charcuterie, duck in fact so many amazing courses they can’t really be described here. It’s not cheap but given the quality and variety of courses I think it’s very good value.
Stunning and imaginative good with an incredible wine pairing. Service was friendly and excellent
We had a fantastic evening catching up with old friends over a few hours of culinary delights. It was easy to park, the staff were great and we never felt rushed, neglected or overly fussed about. Carters seems to have hit the right pot on everything. What a great experience!
Amazing food, great service, loved every minutes at Carters
Amazing experience, all of the staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us, made to feel very welcome.
Such a great dining experience. The food and drinks pairing was really enjoyable. The service was such a seamless operation, staff were attentive and not obtrusive. Really appreciated the birthday gesture for my partner also.
Amazing chilled out vibe for a Michelin star restaurant. There's music playing quietly in the background but there's a lovely hubbub of chat and excitement from all around the restaurant.
The food is unbelievable with an insane amount of attention to detail paid.
The staff are all attentive without being over-bearing and all clearly have a genuine passion for what they do.
Carter's is exactly what we were hoping for from a Michelin star restaurant - incredible food and service without the pomp and pretentiousness.
Would recommend 100%!
excellent attentive service with imaginative cooking
The wine list is barely readable with small faint print in the half light of the restaurant.
It is an evening with a real difference so congratulations on that score.
We thought the fish courses all excellent with some of the meat less so.
Service is friendly and efficient- well done!
Our experience at Carter's was out of this world. The food was amazing and way above our expectations. We went for the 6 course with wine pairing and everything about it was perfect. Staff were extremely attentive and the pace we were served our food and wine was spot on. This was a treat for us as the experience was expensive yet worth every penny. We honestly haven't tasted wine or food like it. Thank you to all staff at Carter's for such a wonderful night we had at your restaurant this week. We have been telling everyone about it!
An amazing experience for our first taste of fine dining. The food was not only exceptional but the atmosphere was perfect for our romantic evening out. We really didn't notice the three and half hours spent there eating out of this world, new and exciting foods. The service was brilliant and everyone was friendly, professional, knowledgeable about all the foods and wine served. We have read and heard lots about this place and hype is definitely worth the attention. Thank you for a memorable experience.
Location is very accessible, there are car parking spaces which is a bonus! Service is very good and the food are in good quality and very special. This type of restaurant is not easy to find in Birmingham.
Great food and matching wines that were spot on. We hadn’t heard of Brad Carter before but came away very impressed. We liked the way the kitchen was prepared to serve a few challenging dishes and not just play it safe.
Overall the experience was top notch.
Everyone who served us was very knowledgable about the food and the general ethos of the restaurant which was lovely. Furthermore, rather than the suffocating atmosphere you sometimes encounter with these upmarket restaurants Carters was very welcoming and casual which made for a very pleasant experience.
Our party of 6 was very well catered for and we opted for the 6 course tasting menu.
The speed of the first few courses was frantic but slowed down towards the end which I was grateful for. I suspect this was by design as you are always ready to try new things at the start but want to prolong the experience as you go through it.
The bits which could be improved on:
The menu that we had included too much cheese - strong cheese that permeated throughout the dishes. So much so that some of our party was put off by it and hence didn't enjoy multiple courses.
The meat/main course was a bit small - we had the optional upgrade to Wagyu for an extra sum - it didn't seem worth it and we felt a bit cheated.
Lastly, it might be worth thinking of more vegetarian substitutes/options.
Nevertheless, highly enjoyable and we will definitely go again when they change their menu!
Flawless food fantastic experience fabulous staff It is more expensive than we would normally pay for a special meal but It was worth every penny and I will absolutely be going back Please please please try if you want to be wowed !!
The overall experience was great and I could understand what they are trying to achieve however... it's a constant assault on your mouth for 4 hours seriously! We arrived at 8.15 we didn't leave until midnight and we skipped the last two courses.
If your looking for cooked food this is not the place for you.
If your looking to choose what you want to eat again this is not the place for you.
They only provide a set menu which says 8 courses but it's not a course its seriously a bite of food served on large plates.
Its £90 per person or £90 plus £80 for the wine pairing.
We ended up spending £120 each for "courses" that could all fit on one plate.
If I'm paying those prices I want to be able to choose what I eat and oooh by the way theres only one meat course the rest are fish but cooked in an overwhelming beef fat sauce.
The final straw after 3 and a half hours was the 2nd desert dish which is a cake which looked beautiful drowned in cider.... I don't mean drizzled I mean its sitting in a puddle of cider the texture is rancid of soggy cake its not something I'd forget in a hurry.
Service was okay, they have very little personality and are quite pushy in trying to get you to buy more drinks or a different cut of meat they asked us for drinks a total if 14 times even though we had said already we were fine with the sparkling water which is lush by the way so is the bread and omg the monkfish course was fantastic.
Like I said at the beginning the overall experience was great and I can see what they are trying to achieve but it missed the mark for us big time but I am very glad we had the experience and I wish the restaurant every success for their future it's not for everyone which is fine.
Disappointed with the Elements in each dish, have been to other Michelin star restaurants which were outstanding.
Also Brad came out of the kitchen and gave a table extra dishes what wasn’t on the menu and feel like they had special treatment.
The service was good and the place was nice but as the food totally disappointed been looking forward to this since last year.
Really enjoyable evening with a wide range of incredible food. The service was subtle but perfect! Wine was delicious. Desserts were a little disappointing but certainly didn’t taint a wonderful night and dining experience.
A gem of a restraunt in Birmingham, eaten there before but took my wife as a surprise birthday meal, staff contacted me in the morning to check any dietary needs I mentioned it was my wife's birthday, on arrival I can only say we were treated like celebrity. The food wonderful as ever but my wife has a special chocolate sweet as a birthday recognition.
So great food, great front of house, best dining experience in Birmingham.
Our meal (evening taster) at Carters could be described as a “magical” experience but not in a positive way and certainly not to be repeated. We left the restaurant feeling as though we had been the victim of something akin to the three card trick!
Not long after being seated at the table, we were presented with a dish containing a square of meat that we were encouraged to pass round. We were being offered the opportunity to try this item of interest/discussion if we so desired. We were grateful that we passed this “opportunity” over because our disenchantment would have been all the more intense had we been tempted to waste an additional £20 per head for the experience.
Dishes of such a minuscule proportion that I felt had been transported to Lilliput were presented with an almost comical gravitas. By the time we reached the 4th or 5th course (or should I say mouthful) we began to wonder if we would ever receive something that would take longer than a few seconds to make disappear.
Several of these “mouthfuls” were delicious but others disappointing. The only dish that would have taken longer than a few seconds to eat was, ironically, one that all but one of the party felt unable to eat because of its unpleasant texture and flavour. Our difficulty with this “dish” was greeted with almost amusement by the waiter. We clearly could not see the emperor’s new clothes.
Several of us are experienced at fine dining and have enjoyed taster menus elsewhere. This was a joke but we were not amused. The portion sizes were far too small, the prices too high and the staff complicit in this con act, encouraging those not paying the bill to have another bottle of the very expensive wine.
The final bill of approximately £750 including a “discretionary” service charge of nearly £90 would not have stung so much had we had a good evening and weren’t still hungry!!
Really enjoyable experience. Fantastic food. Relaxed atmosphere with attentive but unfussy service. Highly recommended
A lovely taste experience and vrry pleasant and helpful staff. Slightlly overpriced on food and drinks but overall a good place to go. Parking can be a problem.
Perfect for a special occasion like date night. Staff were very attentive and food was Devine!
A disappointing evening. Hard sell with wine and Wagu beef. Service was rushed and I felt like Gulliver with 90% of cutlery. Sombre chefs staring out of kitchen at diners and some courses lacking seasoning/taste. High points were sour dough bread and salami and gluten free options which were very well replicated. Sad to say I won't be back. Over priced and below standard for it's status.
This was my first trip to Carters, we booked the lunch menu and on the whole were happy with our visit.
Friendly staff, however I found a couple of them to be a little too trying on the upselling of the wine menu.
The best delicacy was by far the chicken liver cereal, unfortunately it was served as the first taster, so from there it was an impossible feat to better. You can see however, that the chefs have gone to a huge amount of trouble to produce such good quality dishes and they are new and different to many others in a similar field. The lunch price is great value for such passion and creativity. Coffee was a diappointment, both in it's volume and price. I love what they are doing here and will return, even if it's just for more of that chicken liver heaven.
A birthday dinner for my husband, we have been before and are fans and this was even better than ever. Exceptional food, service and overall experience. Cannot rate highly enough. Thank you Carters!
A wonderfully memorable meal. Service was attentive without being over-bearing. The dishes were unique and delightful. The drink pairings were superb. And throughout the evening, I felt perfectly comfortable and relaxed. The experience is costly, but worth every pence.
Went to celebrate a special birthday. Holly and her staff were all helpful and friendly. The food was simply exquisite. The entire evening was memorable and will definitely be going back.
