I have always loved this place. The bartenders mix amazing cocktails and there are so few places to dress up and have a good date night so close to our house in Latham. We went for prime rib night and the portions were just right. The meat I had was a little fatty but still delectable and cooked to perfection. The oysters were exactly as the waiter described to us and we were stuffed to the gills. The prices are affordable yet the food delectable and high end. Amazing wine selection and service is always impeccable. We have also had several private events here for my husband's business and they always do a spectacular job and work with our budget. Happy to have this gem in Latham!
Special thank you to Jennifer, the fantastic hostess and Doug our wait staff. All were so accommodating to my every need to make a party special for one of my best friends. Due to health issues and in need of a private area, all were so wonderfully authentic with understanding and kindness. The food was amazing and service just excellent. We always have a great meal at the Century House. Their bartenders are top notch, and cocktails are generous and well made. My husband an I love their Perfect Rob Roy’s. It’s a scotch drink that an inexperienced bartender can easily botch, but this staff knows how to literally make them perfectly.
The wait staff is also very efficient, helpful and and knowledgeable. I love that they offer a small dinner salad, which (for me) is just the right size for an appetizer start. On this occasion, my husband ordered the soup special and enjoyed it very much. I have to also mention that their rolls are exceptionally good and always arrive warm with a little crock of softened butter. We both ordered lobster dishes for our entrees; one was a special of the evening and the other a regular selection on the menu. For both dishes the lobster was deliciously sweet and cooked to perfection. Dessert choices are very tempting but we opted to forgo them. We look forward to returning to what is one of our long time favorite restaurants.

I love the Century House. It has the most beautiful ambience and service is excellent. The menu has many good choices, but the food is not at the same level as the ambience and experience I'm afraid. It's not terrible, but not as well executed as I'd like.

Our party of three were very happy with the outstanding service we received from our waitstaff and the wonderful selection of specials. We will return in a couple of weeks and hope that one of our

They were incredibly accommodating to my girlfriend and I, giving us a room at their hotel and being so genuine and kind. We had a horrible experience right before arriving and they turned the night around making it perfect and romantic for us. Top to bottom fantastic and looking forward to dining and staying there again.

Good value. We are accustomed to higher prices in Manhattan so very appreciated for lobster tails. Wish they had full lobster.

Upon arrival, had to wait quite q while for hostess to be found (twice) before being seated. The green salad that was Ordered, did not arrive before entree. When asked to then cancelThe salad we were told that it had to be delivered because it was already on the check. My friend and I each ate approx a third of our meals and asked to have wrapped to take home. Both were mid $30 entrees. When the check was presented, we still did not get the wrapped food for take home. I asked the hostess to please see about our take home bags, as the waiter was unavailable. After a good 5 minutes, she returned to say that the waiter did not hear that we wanted to take home the remainder of our meal. IWe had a bit of a discussion about that actually, and asked him to include the untouched salad in the take home bag. The young man came to our table and
Said that we did not ask him to take home our dinners. We reminded him about the request including the remarks about the late salad. He then became contentious and
Stated he was lying, that he was a liar...while walking away from our table and in a loud voice calling out across the restaurant to my friend. Completely rude behavior and totally uncalled for! My friend asked to see a manager, who turned out to be the same hostess. She said that the kitchen was cooking a new meal for each of us. My friend asked to be comped for the half meal rather than cooking a whole new meal but she said that is how they would handle it. Since it was getting dark and we wanted to leave she said it would only take 2 minutes...after 15 minutes we left the restaurant, as my friend had over an hour drive home and it was not worth the wait. As we approached our cars the hostess/manager came out to the parking lot and caught up to us with the replacement meals. The replacement meal for me was totally unacceptable. I had ordered a rare strip steak and the replacement was “well done “and without the peppercorn sauce that came on the original steak.

The ambiance is simply lovely - rustic and spacious, a respite from the busy traffic nearby off Route 7. The food, however, is symptomatic of the grandiosity of catering menus. A $10 Caesar salad whose only distinguishing feature was the four tiny polenta croutons perched artfully on a bed of conventional romaine. A $9 cheese board that the server mistakenly introduced as feta, Bleu, Brie, and cheddar, with watermelon basil compote... even though it was goat cheese, Bleu, Brie, and smoked Gouda, with yesterday’s soggy watermelon mush... but 2 out of 5 isn’t bad, right? The entrees were both heavily over salted (the risotto served with the scallops was nearly inedible, and my grilled shrimp were served in a heavy butter sauce that completely overshadowed what should have been a simple, light dish). Overall, perhaps it was a bad night for the kitchen since the ambiance and crowd created a lovely atmosphere, but nevertheless my rating here is a 2 out of 5. That’s not bad, right?

"We love the historic feel of this place – the dining room is like going to a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The vegetable crab bisque was amazing, the raw bar was great. We had the 2 for $22 specials, and wondered at 1st why we ordered entrees we don't normally go for, but the bleu cheese encrusted steak was delicious, and also the seafood pasta dish also very tasty. Our server was knowledgeable, service was prompt & friendly... the dessert, strawberries over a butter cake, just melted in your mouth. We'll be back.

My husband and I with another couple went on a Wednesday evening for
their Prime Rib dinner special. The food is always exceptional as well
as their service. The only con is that it tends to be somewhat noisy in
the main dining area, but that seems to be the case in most restaurants.

We have been going to The Century House since 1979 when we had our wedding reception there. It’s our “go to” place for special occasions and upscale evenings out.
Last Friday was no exception to their level of excellence in food, wine, pacing and service.
For the first time ever, I had a problem, and it was probably my fault. I ordered the “fully loaded” baked potato, and when I started to eat it, I sensed that it contained either gorgonzola or bleu cheese, to which I have a strong aversion - almost an allergic reaction. I asked our waitress (Mary) if she would get me another, only with butter and sour cream, and she did so within a few minutes. Again. . . This may have been my fault as I didn’t thoroughly read the description of what was included in this item on the menu. But the response and level of service to please the customer was fantastic, and the food, wine and atmosphere were, as usual, outstanding.

Not child friendly.
We picked this restaurant to have dinner with family from out of town, specifically hoping for a family friendly atmosphere. We had 4 little children playing in the empty corner, pretty quietly considering their age. They were quickly corrected & asked to be quiet by staff. The restaurant was very quiet, floors squeaky, so you could hear everything throughout the restaurant.
We understand that not everyone likes children & can tolerate noise they make. But the staff was not graceful in speaking to us.
The waiter was short tempered. If we had a minor request, he’d snap at us with «Let me take care of “this” FIRST!”. We felt unwelcome, uncomfortable & wanted to leave.
The food was very good though.
I hope the staff reads it & implements some changes in customer service. Both me & my husband worked in restaurants & we understand that it’s not a walk in the park, but customer service is EVERYTHING, even if the food is not 100%.

I WAS DISAPPOINTED BY THE SERVICE AND FOOD. WE HAD TO WAIT A LONG TIME, 20 MIN. FOR OUR SOUPS AND ANOTHER 20 MIN FOR OUR ENTREES. IT WAS PRIME RIB SPECIAL NIGHT SO IT WAS A GOOD VALUE. THE RIB WAS TASTY BUT A LITTLE TOUGH. MY SON ORDERED A SHRIMP DISH AND WAS DISAPPOINTED TO HAVE SMALL SHRIMP WHEREAS IN THE PAST THEY WERE BIGGER SHRIMP. THE BREAD WAS WARM BUT SEEMED STALE, NOT FRESH. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER WE WILL GO BACK.
I ordered Monk fish. The fish was raw in the middle and I showed the waiter. He said he would bring me a new one. After 10 minutes ,and my husband having his dinner , he brought me the same piece of fish that was just cooked a little more. That was OK however my husband basically ate alone and I hurried to finish to try to have him not wait for me . I feel there should have been some compensation made except a free cup of coffee

I’d go again to see if the service is better on days other than Mother’s Day. I didn’t feel special at all with our waiter. He was rushing and short and not around a lot.
Wine glass was dirty, I had to send wine back.
Staff tried to take our plates while we were still eating.
I think these special days are terrible. I’ll check out the service on a regular day someday after I get the bitter taste out of my mouth.
