Chai Naasto - Beckenham
As soon as you step into Chai Naasto, you are immediately transformed to the streets of India. Tables and booths are housed in a train cabin style seating and then our mezzanine level welcomes you all the way to Bollywood. Here we can seat groups of 6 or more, ideal for parties.
The selection of street food is delicious and like nowhere else. Service was prompt and pleasant.
Excellent service. Food was tasty and unique - different from the typical Indian cuisine. The downfall is the portions were very small and not good value for money.
I like this restaurant, it has a great atmosphere and ambience. I was a little disappointed with the food this time, the waitress didn't explain how the menu works, my dining companions hadn't been before. I was given crisps with my lamb dish, this did not complement the food at all, I had also eaten most of my food before my naan bread arrived
The chicken poutine, fried chicken, butter chicken (we like chicken), and deal, were excellent. Good kulfi, but the chopped nuts they put on the white chocolate samosas were rancid so spoiled the dish.
Overall, really great flavours, but expensive for the amounts of food you get.
We had a lovely meal, the only thing is i think you should advise people that the Indian tea comes with milk already in it. 2 of us have our tea black.
This is the second time I have been and I chose different dishes which were equally delicious. Booking was straightforward and arrangements made for one of our party who is a wheelchair user.
Beautiful food and a lovely environment. Very helpful staff although difficult to always get someone’s attention. Pricey but lovely food.
Excellent...unusual.....will return next time we're in London
Friendly welcome. Funny smell when entered though? (not of food). Warmed up when more people arrived. Good service food & atmosphere.
I’m not normally a fan of Indian food but this was lovely. I think the portion sizes are similar to tapas ..everything was beautifully spiced and some really different dishes making it hard to choose which is exactly what you want. Great service great value for money I would recommend it.
This was our second visit, at 18:30 it was getting busy and it’s always worth booking a table. The food is exquisite and the service is exceptional. The relatively young waiting staff have clearly been well trained, they are friendly. efficient and full of product knowledge. Well done, I would definitely recommend and will be going back again soon.
Recently we went to Chai Nashto for dinner with my family. We foynd the food overpriced, the quantity was very very less . For a pav bhaji , priced 5.99pounds, we got 6 spoins of bhajii and half a bun. We had to order 2 more half buns for my son.
The quality was also quite bad .
Paid £70 for horrible food !
Disappointed. Its only show ...nothing else !
The menu sounded great on paper, but didnt deliver well on flavour. We were waiting around for our drinks to be served. Another table was served straight and arrived after us. The best thing i had was the khadi. Dont get sucked into the social media pictures and a little over priced for the portions
Had a really lovely waitress not sure her name but she was Albanian and was really friendly and provided an excellent service
Can't recommend her enough
Enjoyed Chai very much
Fabulous food and delightful service, Chai Naasto is a modern take on traditional Indian food
Absolutely fantastic night, the service and food was impeccable. Will definitely be recommending to friends.
I’ve visited quite a few times now, but the food this time was just ok, so spicy, everything was spicy. Previously the food was amazing with some great tastes, this time not able to taste anything, just hot and I didn’t order spicy food.
Brilliant, quirky restaraunt, food was lovely, service friendly & fabulous!
Fun night with good food and very helpful service street food with a twist. Good beers
In and out in 45 minutes including a very tasty array of Indian food. Will be comin vack
Food was tasteless and inedible. Service rude. Will never return.
Menu looks amazing, promising properly authentic Indian street food dishes, but food lacked any real depth or flavour.
Appeared short-staffed too, as we had to constantly go to the counter for service.
Very good we have enjoyed both our visits and look forward to eating there again very soon.
We had a lovely early evening dinner with a mixed age group 8 -75years old. We were celebrating a birthday and the atmosphere was very family orientated - it was Sunday at 5 when we visited. Great fun and lovely food!
After 2 previous visits, this will be the last time. We requested to sit in the bar area we got a big fat no.
Fair enough we sat before the tills, where they decided to open the door and it was absolutely freezing, asked them to close the door, then understood why, a fowl smelling sewage smell, started lingering, not sure where it was coming from.
Food was okay, Paying £14.00 for 5 prawns seemed OTT. The chicken and lamb was pre cooked and dry, waitress started sweeping as soon as we sat down, which signalled the restaurant was nearing closing.
Our reservation was at 10pm, and our date night was ruined by kids literally running around the restaurant, parents sat and said nothing to them, and I have kids but this was shocking. From a safety point of view I could see a child falling at any point.
£80 for a ruined hurried meal which lasted an hour, complete and utter rip off, if it’s open in 2 years I will be highly surprised, local residents aren’t mugs.
The food was amazing as always. The service extremely and surprisely disappointing.
Young student as waiter with zero knowledge of the menu!
Something to work on.
Really disappointing this time. Tasteless food, one time of which came with that well known Indian treat, half a burger bun. Weird! Also starting to wonder whether the food is actually cooked on the premises or just warmed up. It comes out way too quickly for the former.
Food was nice and tasted like it was made fresh. Service was good although we had to ask a couple of times for a fresh pot of tea but this wasn’t really a big deal. I’ve been here a couple of times and really enjoy the food in particular the paneer. Definitely recommend!
The downside to this restaurant is that if you are a party of two you can only sit in a row of 6/7 tables packed together on bench seating to one side. It doesn’t offer any privacy and is just too crushed to be a pleasant dining experience. I have been a fairly regular customer, but having asked if I could use a free small booth by the door my request was met with a flat no. On the basis of this experience I may only go back if im in a group of four or more. Not somewhere to go if you’re on a date Or want to have a private conversation.
Great food, friendly staff. Spacious restaurant but booths provide privacy.
The food is so tasty. So nice to eat something a little different. The service is quick and the staff are very friendly. You really must give it a go.
Great food and a real experience! The service is professional and fast.
One of the best Indian places I have ever been. Highly and strongly reccomended.
Food was good but few drinks had run out, sparkling water and diet coke. Off putting smell also in restaurant
Wasn't impressed with the food.
They decor and venue were nice but that's it.
We was rushed during our meal, to the point where we was eating the they tried to take the plate away.
We were only half way into our 2 hour window.
Incredible food. And two free cocktails as it was our anniversary.
Lovely service. Can’t wait to back
Really lovely food and service fast and friendly. If I have one complaint it would be they were clearing too quickly and we lost a few unfinished drinks as a result. If you like Indian food with a twist you can't go wrong here, but don't expect a chilled out atmosphere and be warned spicy means spicy. Cocktails were amazing too. Will definitely be going again.
Vegetarian Quality of food was great except the pani puri..they were served just with imbli chutney...missing the essential chaat pani.
As for quantity/ value for money...absolutely NO. 6panipur for over£7. When you can get 30puris for £3...astonishing markup..even with fixed overheads. Genrally portion sizes are misely for central london prices in beckenham. So despite spending over £100 for four adults...we came out hungry...and this too after we brought our own birthday cake to cut and eat.
So go if u must...but dont go there expecting to be fed..
Such a piety...as some of the items are really teasty.
Fun and funky decor. It felt like we were on holiday and not in beckenham. The small plates were really delicious and the wine was great. I thought the small plates were far better value than the main dishes and tastier. The staff were friendly and sweet - but a bit slow. The drinks took ages. We did have a really awkward moment when leaving though when we were made to open the door to a boozy advent calendar. Great idea except we had to do loads of takes and the staff just seemed really disappointed and we both felt really stupid then they just huddled over a phone trying to instagram it - rather than say goodbye properly. That kinda spoilt it all really. I’ll go back but won’t open any advent calendars!
I was taken by surprise by that little germ in Beckenham. It’s pack of great ideas to rethink Indian restaurants. A bit too pricey for a local though.
Lovely restaurant with interesting twists on Indian classics
