Chai Naasto - Beckenham
As soon as you step into Chai Naasto, you are immediately transformed to the streets of India. Tables and booths are housed in a train cabin style seating and then our mezzanine level welcomes you all the way to Bollywood. Here we can seat groups of 6 or more, ideal for parties.
Was great when it first opened dishes weren’t as good this time.
Friendly staff, food was amazing and you didn't have to wait ages for it . Would recommend.
It is a nice place overall, if you are an expert in Indian cuisine. In our case it was a bit disappointing as half of the menu wasn’t clear and the waitress would just repeat the names written down on it without much details.
It’s a very personal opinion, shame we weren’t lucky enough. Im sure they can do better.
Too expensive too rushed. Given an awful table so had to asked to be moved. Won't be rushing back
We enjoyed trying Chai Naasto, food and drinks were good and it was interestingly different to most Indian restaurants. Will definitely go again!
Very High prices for very little quantity of food.
Very good food and not the usual 'Indian'. Excellent service and pleasant ambience.
But tables are STICKY! This despite the fact that they are wiped after every diner. We suspect this is the result of residue from the spray used.
We’ve been going since it opened. It was busy and a young member of staff was not very knowledgeable about the menu, however food was excellent and service good.
Had heard good things about chai naasto but we were a little disappointed that the food was distinctly average - my veggie curry was mainly potato and carrot which is very lazy cooking in my opinion. However, the service was warm and friendly and the drinks were great.
Lovely food. Good advice from waiter. Great ambience.
Booked last-minute with friends and had a lovely time.
Food was delish and cocktails also very nice
Would definitely recommend.
Food was cold. Even though we had booked a table we had to wait for a table.
Extremely disappointed. Standard of food was not like before.
It was my first visit to Chai Naasto and I’ll be back to try some of the other dishes. The paneer and tacos were particularly tasty👍🏻
The staff where very helpfull and the food was fantastic.
We had a grate time , I will defiantly to coming back .
Been here a few times now, excellent food, different to your usual high street Indian restaurant - very good, would recommend.
In lunchtime in Saturday there was little crowd and only one person to serve ..
Food for kids meals was ok rest was really underwhelming we ordered lal mas, chicken and dal makhani .
Naan and ice cream was ok ..:so overall so so value wise not worth it
We've been here lots of times but not for about a year. We were really disappointed in the new menu. Lots of deep fried food and dry chicken. Not as unusual as it used to be. The menu has changed for the worse. Such a shame as this was a favourite of ours. I’m afraid we won’t be going back.
We have been to this restaurant two years before and the food was really good and there were lot of options especially for chat.
This time we have recommended our Cardiff friends for celebrating there bday dinner in the restaurant. We have made a reservation at 9:30 to 10:00pm
Staff over there had suggested that the kitchen will close at 10:15 so we have ordered mains and starters together. We have started with the starters the lamb kebab and pani puri shots were decent enough a taste and apart from that chicken biryani, lamb biryani, Pav bhaji, kerala fried chicken were tasteless. I even could not able to chew the chicken pieces in biryani it was that hard. We had complained to management over there and returned all the food and it was absolute waste of time. We have not been charged anything on that day as the manager has understood our concerns and they have inspected themselves before authorising the refund
I would personally not recommend this restaurant as the food is not even upto the minimum standard
Ambience was good, food a bit pricey but overall good.
Overall very enjoyable but the 'music' was intrusive,
Amazing food and great venue all staff super friendly and knew the menu inside out !!
The food is good and sometimes amazing.
The service remains variable.
I asked for the pao (bread) from the pao bhaji for my toddler son and was given to understand I had to order the whole dish (=inflexible attitude). When it arrived it had been placed with the bhaji (spicey veg) and was therefore not suitable for my son.
If service needs to have things like this spelled out, maybe they should rethink their career choice.
However, if you spell everything out they may take offence OR you may get what you need: who knows?
I wanted to try this place for a while so we picked a day with my husband and went for dinner. I like good freshly prepared food!
Overall we were disappointed which this review goes again the majority of reviews. I do understand that some places are not for everyone and you don’t expect to have 100% satisfaction rate.
The restaurant is a fun and colourful space, good for young people and those with kids, however our table was sticky, as were the menus which immediately put me off.
The food they serve is street food, it was OK, not amazing, 3 dishes out of 6 were good, everything seemed to be a 50/50 experience whether it was the taste or the presentation of the food. I would have liked more authenticity in the dishes, it all looked a bit Nando's.
Service was good, although keen to upsell a lot, waitress very friendly, helpful and knew the menu back to back.
The first time I went to Chai Naasto it was better, maybe I'd ordered better dishes, it seemed different, that they'd changed the menu to make it more like a chain and that spoiled it for me.
I would recommend it for a fun evening out if you're a 20 something and Dad is getting the bill (its not cheap) but if you want an authentic dining experience, its not the one.
The chicken buriyni was flavoursome and fragrant. The treasury sea be was beautifully cooked.
Excellent authentic Indian street food. NOT a standard curry house.
Waiting staff can be a little hit and miss. Last time, a waitress stopped us mid-mouthful to ask us to pass over a plate to clear up!! When we were done, no one came to clear up for a good while. To be fair, this is not their usual standard but it was pretty off-putting.
Then they had a few hiccups: the brilliant kids' thalis got taken off the menu for a while before finally being brought back recently. Yesterday the pao (from the pao bhaji) had a small pat of butter in the middle rather than all over and on both sides. Maybe this is a concession to the non-Indian customer but as an Indian this would me up. I asked for another and this time it was perfect, and I wasn't charged for it.
So despite issues last time, still our favourite restaurant and worth 5 stars.
Food was ok, most of the food needed seasoning all the dishes had the same taste. It seemed that the same curry paste was used for every dish.
Lovely restaurant, serves Indian street food which is a fab idea as can order lots of little dishes to share. Food was absolutely delicious and would recommend a visit. Staff were friendly and checked we were ok and if we required further drinks through out the meal.
Terrible. Chaotic service. Average food which we now understand to be cooked somewhere else and just reheated and assembled on site. Very poorly executed restaurant offering.
Most of the food was delicious and worth the visit. We had one dish that simply didn't compare with the others. It was essentially a toasted burger bun, two crisps some raw onion and a dollop of spicy mush. In comparison with the other same priced dishes (which were much more generous, more aesthetically pleasing and infinitely more delicious) this dish was a big disappointment and stuck out like an expensive sore thumb. We didn't eat it.
We went at 9pm on a rainy Wednesday so it was not very busy / low ambience. There was only one waitress who was busy.
The food was lovely and great service too. It was our first time there & we were happy that we chose it for Father's Day.
Had a booking for a Family meal. Food was really good, lovely atmosphere. Portion sizes for dishes vary greatly and the upper side of the restaurant was very warm.
We went here for Father’s Day and I’ve always wanted to go.
Well we will definitely be back. The choice of food was great and the service was fantastic with advice where we wanted it. Every dish was so tasty and the sharing of dishes was really lovely, social and fun.
Excellent food and nice atmosphere too, children enjoyed food as well
Starters were great, but old delhi curry was very very average. I have had it here before and it was great then. Not going to rush back, which is a shame.
When Chai Naasto opened the menu was brilliant. The first change of menu removed some of their best dishes and now they've changed again and removed almost all the remaining good dishes that were left. We really enjoyed coming here when it first opened, I don't think we'll be coming back.
The food at Chai Naasto is really delicious, and the menu is structured so that you can try a wide range of dishes. It can get a bit pricey, but ultimately well worth it.
This was a great setting off the main road and the choice of dishes was amazing. It was clear what was spicy and the staff were very attentive. The cocktails were to die for
Different but nice experience. Good quality and service. Menu a little confusing but got there in the end. Friendly service
Just awful. Food tasted like it had been microwaved. Over priced. They’ve gone downhill. Service so,so. The bhel poori is prob the only thing we liked from our meal. They also tried to charge£1.50 to eat the birthday cake we brought with us. Ridiculous!
The paneer was very rubbery and did not taste fresh and neither did the mix veg curry. Not sure I would return.
