We thought the food was sensational. Wonderful flavour combinations in dishes such as the tuna ceviche, artichoke causa, suckling pig and hake escabeche. Everything was beautifully presented and so colourful on the plate, which really added to the eating experience. We thought Chakana's atmosphere was great too, relaxed and welcoming.

We had a great night at Chakana. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the pisco cocktails. Food was beautifully presented and delicious, melt in the mouth ceviche with a nice kick from Peruvian chillies in the main course. With two cocktails, three starters, a main each and a tip, it came to £60 each. We felt it was great value for Michelin star level food. All in all, great food, service and ambience without breaking the bank.

First time diners and really enjoyed the experience, our waiter was very knowledgable and friendly. My first Pisco Sour and Ceviche. A great deal of effort and skill goes into the food and it pays off. The atmosphere was relaxed and a nice ambience, would definitely recommend.

We travelled up from London to try Chakana. We were met by very helpful and smiling staff.

We honestly can’t say a bad thing about Chakana, the staff, even though rushed off their feet, made sure both the food and drink, arrived in a timely manner.

Peruvian food was a first for me, not my wife who mentioned the only other place she had experienced it, was in East London and that didn’t come close to Chakana.

Overall a great night, great eating and drinking experience, amazing staff, we highly recommend Chakana.

I cannot fault this place. I am no 'foodie' and sometimes a fussy eater, but they prepared every part of the food meant I left nothing on the plate. Loved it.

Fantastic food, so much flavour, careful selection of ingredients, artfully blended, and presented like a piece of art. Beautiful. Delicious cock-/mock-tails too.

The only minor downside was the restaurant space itself is pretty echo-y and noisy. A few extra curtains and soft-furnishings would have chilled out the vibe a bit more, softened the noise levels and allowed a bit more intimacy. The incredible food deserves that!

We had dinner booked on a Sunday for 4 people. The menu didn't include too many choices but you had 3 dishes for starters and the same for mains and desserts. They were also doing Sunday roast. All 4 of us went for traditional peruvian food and we really enjoyed it. Even though the food is hot for my taste, I could still feel all the other ingredients and tastes not just the chilly. As you can tell from the photos, it's very colourful and we learnt that they are bringing some of the ingredients from Peru which is probably why the food is so delicious.
Given it has 1* Michelin, the prices are reasonable and you definitely don't leave being hungry as the portions are filling.
I would definetly recommend this place if you are into unique experiences and experimenting peruvian cuisine.

Food was beautifully presented and extremely on point with flavour.
We were told all the starters are served cold. However the hot cooked mains were not so hot in temperature ; more tepid. Yorkshire’s we’re cold and far too crisp and difficult to cut with the knife.
The staff were amazingly, charming attentive ; without being invasive.

We were visiting Birmingham and having read the Jay Rayner review booked a table. From the moment we arrived, we knew we'd made a great decision! The lay out is simple but classy. The restaurant is a converted bank and the private dining area is the old vault! We had a drink at the bar while our table was being cleaned. We had the signature Pisco cocktails which were delicious. Our waitress was perfect. Happy, smily but not too in your face. She was knowledgeable about all the dishes and happy to recommend when we couldn't make up our minds. The service was quick and the food incredible. Really interesting flavours, beautifully presented without being too filling. The price for 2 with service, extra drinks and 3 courses was just over £100 which we thought good value for the experience we'd had. We will be back next time we are in Birmingham

Four of us ate here as a first get together since the start of the pandemic.

We had starters of salmon, scallops and crab; mains of hake, lamb, duck and suckling pig. Every dish was a work of art and the flavour combinations were superb with different layers and explosions of flavour. We all agreed that we would quite happily have eaten each other’s choices if the way they looked was anything to go by.

I can’t recommend the food highly enough.

Only one negative. An unfortunate glitch saw us presented with two consecutive bills with truly eye-popping overcharges. The issue was dealt with eventually and the final cost was very reasonable for the quality of food we enjoyed (we were given an additional deduction as a goodwill gesture to compensate for the erroneous bills which was appreciated). It would have been good if the errors were picked up before the bills got to us, but despite this I definitely want to return. There isn’t a single item on them menu which I don’t want to try and I think the errors were a combination of an unfortunate IT failure and it being the end of a long busy service.

So - this is a truly special neighbourhood restaurant with friendly knowledgable staff, warm relaxed ambience and spectacular Michelin standard food which would not be out of place in any capital city or upmarket neighbourhood. Just brilliant to have it here in Moseley.

Recommended - but have a good look at the bill just in case.

Excellent food and friendly, helpful staff. Our meals (sea bream ceviche, octopus causa, suckling pig and potato stew) were beautifully cooked and really interesting (in a good way!) flavour and texture combinations. It was busy when we visited but not too loud: we could still hold a conversation easily. Highly recommended
