Steakhouse
Charlie Palmer Steak Washington, DC, located in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters building, is dedicated to another fine master craft: bold American food. Under the direction of Executive Chef Zach Long, the menu not only stars the best American artisan beef cuts like an aged Angus Rib-eye "Cowboy" Steak but updated locally sourced seafood dishes, like Chesapeake Bay Oysters and Soft Shell Crab Fritto Misto.

Much more than a steakhouse, the timelessly stylish restaurant moves the political power meetings out of the back room and into private dining spaces, sleek enclaves of dark wood. Located off the wide, open expanse of the National Mall, Charlie Palmer’s Steak’s rooftop terrace can accommodate 400 guests for private events, offering the city’s most impressive view of the Capitol.

Top Notch Service from Start to Finish. Our waiters were super patient with our 6 and 9 year olds. They knew when to refill glasses and to appropriate levels that were manageable for them. They provided a split dish for them to share and yet keep them feeling like that had their own order.

The Lavender Collins is a must to try! Great recommendation from the Manager, Derrick.

Derrick, was very accommodating and ensured a Fine Dining experience even for a family of 4. Courses were well paced and when kids began to get restless, they were able to speed dessert up to meet our needs and children’s attention span.

I would definitely recommend the experience and will be back. Maybe just with Mom next time.

The Prix Fixe menu was an excellent value. Service was outstanding, and my server replaced my cocktail to another one that I preferred, no questions asked. Outdoor dining was very pleasant and was able to hear the bell tower chime across the street and see many joggers go by.

We had a good time in spite of the server being overwhelmed. The dinner should’ve taken about an hour but ended up taking about 2 1/2. We were seated outside and by the time we were done we were eating and pitch black because the sun had gone down. We had a twice baked potato that was not that great and the rest of the food was average. I’d go back in a pinch but wouldn’t go out of my way.

This is a DC heavy-hitter steakhouse - it's been outstanding in the past - this experience was not outstanding. The staff seemed to be only half-interested in serving us with more people standing around than being attentive. The place was only half-full. The waiter took our drink orders and then we waited for 15 minutes before he realized we never got them. We ordered wine and food and all was fine - they brought my steak - which was entirely the wrong cut (I ordered the NY strip and ended up with some sort of ribeye) - luckily the matre-de noticed and quickly corrected it. But the steak was obviously hurried and just not up to what it should be at this place. We were hoping for an epic night out with great steaks, great wine and great service... the wine was great - the rest was lacking this time.

It seems like the kitchen is still getting back into the groove of high end dining. My fish was over-cooked and the sides lacked a some seasoning.

However, the waitstaff and bar staff were very attentive and did a wonderful job making us feel welcome.

I think being closed for such a long time was hard, but am confident the restaurant will recover to the top notch steak house we know and have loved for the last 10 years.

Outside seating was great. But felt neglected in terms of service. Our order was wrong. No refills for drinks until we asked and it was very late. Probably felt our order wasn’t high ticket enough so didn’t warrant the attention.

We went for our 25th Anniversary, as noted on the reservation, but they didn't even acknowledge that, which was fine. I ordered the DC Bibb Salad to start and unfortunately
it had zero flavor. I ordered the filet mignon medium rare, and it was good, but it came out very overdone. My husband had the Spring Risotto and he said it had good flavor but wished there were other vegetables to offset the starchiness of the ingredients. We also ordered a side of broccoli and Mac and Cheese. We both really liked the Mac and Cheese, but the broccoli was barely blanched and crunchy. I prefer mine soft, but even if I forget to request that most places cook it more than that. Overall, it was underwhelming and perhaps we went on a bad day, because the reviews were phenomenal, but I think we both agree we wouldn't go back.

There are lots of "expensive account" steakhouses in Washington, DC -- ranging from dining rooms that feature a rustic, wood paneled ambience, to a few that depart from the cliched traditional decor in favor of a more refined and sophisticated ambience. Charlie Palmer's falls into the latter category, offering the usual array of steak and seafood specialties, but served in a polished contemporary environment located within sight of the Capitol. We find the change refreshing, and the menu, while hardly innovative for the genre, high quality and satisfying. In sum, it's a refreshing alternative to the Capitol Grills and Ruth Chris' of the world, and well worth experiencing.

The food was not great for the price. The steak was ok...surprising for a steakhouse. The lobster was “stuffed” with ritz crackers and garlic butter. Sheesh!

I have been going to CP since it opened many years ago. It has been at the top for American DC Steakhouse. No frills not insane menu, impeccable service, delicious food. I am so glad it is back after this pandemic. I will be a regular again.

Excited to take my wife downtown to lunch at Charlie Palmers. It is a steakhouse and so we decided on the Steak Friets. New York Strip with french fries and a salad for $36, Wellfleet Oysters and a glass of wine. Oysters were spot on, but when the Steak Friets came out, I thought someone was playing a prank on us. The "steak" was literally less than 1/4 of an inch thick. We both looked at each other and laughed as to why they asked how we wanted it cooked, as it was cooked through. Probably 30 seconds a side would do it. They should be embarrassed to serve a dish like this. Service was fine, but team was stretched thin. Unlikely to come back and hard to recommend.

Celebrating my engagement with my future wife was amazing thanks to their staff. We intended to have it there before the pandemic hit last year, but had to cancel it. This time around when I made the reservation and explained what happened, the restaurant made sure we had a great experience just like what we wanted to have a year ago. We will definitely go back there we really loved it. You guys are amazing.

Great place for date night. Understated elegance is how I would describe the dining area. If you're in a small party try to get a table near the large floor-to-ceiling windows.

To start cleaning we got an appetizer they were offering as a special - tempura squash bloom stuffed with ricotta and crab meat which was delicious. My girlfriend had the filet which was perfectly cooked - she also what are the red wine demi glaze on the side but the steak was so well prepared she didn't use it. I had the 25 oz prime rib which was delicious if a bit chewier than normal, but still quite tastey all the same. We finished the meal off with a banana split - two spoons.

We paired our steaks with a red cab recommended by the sommelier which was awesome.

The manager had a special treat for us and took us to a private rooftop terrace in the building and spent a good amount of time talking about all kinds of things, which we enjoyed and appreciated given the fact he had plenty of other guests to attend to.

We will definitely return for date night.

We went for a birthday & i honestly have never had such wonderful service! Myra, our server, was very attentive & kind - and once she found out we were celebrating a birthday she brought out a number of complimentary desserts and even offered to take us up on the roof. along with her, all the staff was so kind and always checking to see if we needed anything. it was truly one of the best experiences i’ve ever had at a restaurant!

Worst experience I have ever encountered. It was my first time there and I will never go back neither will any of the other 5 members in our party. Sommelier Phil was rude and confrontational. Service was slow and not responsive, food was undercooked.
