Great cocktail menu and well prepared delicious food. Can be noisy but that’s expected with it being a small place. One of our favorite places in the city.
Cocktails we're amazing, and the food was outstanding. Servers very attentive even when extremely busy. Would go back for the cocktails alone.
I am not a vegan by any means so I was skeptical. Countless friends suggest we give it a try bc of how good it is and it was absolutely incredible. Exceeded expectations.
The hostess and our server were both so so nice and helpful! The food and drinks were also incredible, we couldn’t get enough! We had a wonderful time for my partner’s birthday and they made her feel extra special :) We will definitely be coming back!
Wonderful atmosphere! As a carnivore this was one of the best meals I’ve had in Philadelphia. The drinks put other bars to shame
Charlie was a Sinner is admittedly one of our favorites, and last night did not disappoint. The updates to their seasonal menu include lyonnaise potatoes, which were heavenly! (No judgement, but we even placed an order of them to go home with us! 😋)
As always, our experience was lovely and each dish was delicious!! 💜💜💜
I couldn’t believe the entire menu was vegan! It was so diverse and delicious. We had a hard time choosing our dishes. The waiter was great. We ordered margaritas and he recommended cocktails that were included in happy hour which were similar to margaritas but cheaper. They were fantastic!
Great food. I love small plates because you can try so many different things.
Drinks were really good, but food was average at best.
Mary was excellent
Food was great
Drinks were good
It’s always a good time when I come
Food and drinks were incredible
Lovely as always! Can’t wait to return.
This was such a unique experience - I loved the dark, romantic ambience and even though we were sitting between two other tables, the noise level and darkness made it feel very private. Our waitress was super nice and the drinks and food were AMAZING. I had The Metamorphosis and can say it’s my favorite cocktail I’ve ever had in my life. Also the mac & cheese was my favorite mac & cheese!!! So tasty and the tempeh bacon is so smoky and crunchy I wish I had more right now. I went at 8 pm and it was really busy, so I’m glad I had a reservation. I can’t wait to go back next time I’m in Philly!!
Eat everything, because everything on the menu is amazing. Try the espresso martini and the Pink Moon!!
Food wasn't very tasty. A few things came cold as well.
Despite explaining a choice for sweet drinks, bar kept sending drinks that were very tangy.
Incredible food and cocktails!
Service was great; from the bartender to servers we were attended to ver well. Sat outside curbside but streets were closed to traffic so only pedestrians were passing by. Drinks were amazing, food was great - no complaints! 😁
Great drinks! Amazing ambiance!! Staff was great and friendly!
I love it here. Last night, on a Friday, it was very packed. 90 minute limit for diners. Food is always amazing, service as well. Would recommend for anyone who enjoys vegan food or someone who wants to try vegan food.
The food and service was amazing! My favorite thing was the Korean fried tofu!
We had an outdoor table and, while the "rooms" on the street were well-built and separated, the tables and chairs were basic folding metal and thus not very comfortable.
While the food--tapas-style multiple plates--was pretty good (as were the cocktails), the service was mediocre. We had ordered two quick plates with our drink orders and they arrived appropriately promptly but then we had to wait for over an hour before any more of our additional twelve plates showed up. Later, when we asked for the bill, it contained an extra dish that we had neither ordered nor received. Our foursome asked to remove that dish and then split the bill in half on two credit cards but the server ended up deducting all of the cost of the extra dish from one of the bills while leaving the other untouched so that the credit cards slips differed by about $12. Not a major deal but still annoying.
I've been to this restaurant before and really enjoyed the food but found the quality to be very different this time around. A meal for 2pp with a round of drinks was $120 and the value and service just didn't match the price point.
The food is AMAZING! so far best vegan restaurant ever and I've had experienced many vegan places around the states.
Service from the kitchen at this place is always slow.
the individual plates were mostly quite good. ricotta, fried tofu, zucchini blossom particularly. Server was enthusiastic and quick. We ate outside and it was a sweltering evening unfortunately. Also a nearby truck had its motor running the entire time we were there, and no one from the restaurant made any effort to ask the delivery driver to turn the motor off. This made the ambience problematic.
The food and cocktails were outstanding. I would highly recommend this to anyone, but especially those who are looking for high quality and thoughtful vegan/vegetarian fare. My only wish is that they created their own 'beef' substitute, instead of relying on readymade Beyond and Gardein.
Dishes varied in quality (some were under-salted while others were phenomenal). Loved the menu's plant-based nature and cocktails were stellar.
Loved the ambiance. Food comes in small plates so we ordered two of each. Zucchini blossom, potato gnocchi and avocado toast was delicious and are highly recommended. Mary, our server was great with providing recommendations and service. I have seen a lot of bars skimp on alcohol but Charlie’s was an exception. Pink moon and Charlie’s signature were really good! Would definitely go again.
Easy to make a reservation, EXCELLENT service + incredible food! Will definitely be dining here every time I'm in Philly.
Regular diners but first time eating on a Saturday night. Food was good as always. One drink was watered down but made up for it comping the first drink and better with a second drink. What was lacking was attention by manager on duty. Waiter seemed new and still learning so she was not attentive to our table (outside dining) and other tables from my observation. Criticism of the manager because all he did was seat people and you never saw him again. I have experienced better with manager just coming outside to check with diners to make sure all is okay.
The drinks are always amazing, the staff genuine and always attentive to
Each guests needs. Chef Nicky knocks it out of the box and the ambiance is always worth the visit. 5000/5 love it always.
Charlie Was a Sinner never disappoints. If I had to choose a last meal it would be from them. Last drink, from them. Last wait staff, bar staff, hostess, chef…you get the point. The food is amazing, the drinks are what dreams are made of and the decor is exactly what you would expect, cozy and inviting. My only complaint is that I have to drive all the way from northern MD to visit my favorite place.
Amazing. Ricotta, out of this world. Artichoke frites - yum. Drinks, delish. Inventive and inspiring. My daughter and I had a ball.
I have been wanting to try this place so my best friend took me for my birthday. Wow! Probably my favorite dining experience….ever. It definitely beats any vegan restaurant I have previously dined at and I’ve been to places in Los Angeles and New York City.
The service is great! The food is delicious and the presentation is amazing. I loved the cool, hip atmosphere. The cocktails were out of this world.
You don’t have to be vegan or even vegetarian to love this place. My friend that brought me is not either and works in the restaurant business, he raved about the place in the car on the way back.
Thank you to the whole staff and team at Charlie Was A Sinner. The place was PACKED and you still managed to deliver exceptional service and make this an unforgettable birthday for me (and believe me, I know that’s tough to do in the restaurant business these days with staffing). Kudos and I will DEFINITELY be back.
My meal was excellent, I'd definitely come back in the future.
Great service amd good food. Decor and Ambience was perfect too.
Birthdays and work celebrations
First time dining at this restaurant. I loved it. The food was outstanding. Amazing dish, after amazing dish. Very flavorful, great textures. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Mary was an excellent waitress.
It took over an hour for the food to come out
