Fantastic 40th birthday celebration! Personal service from Chef Guo himself. Food was delightful and the presentation stunning. We will be back!
My wife and I went there for our anniversary. We had a pleasurable experience. Chef Guo and the waitress, Meagan did excellent at their job! Meagan ensured us being satisfied and didn't rush us through; she helped explaining us some dishes. Chef Guo was attentive to the details of dishes, such as right amount of sweetness and sourness. Also, he served us his signature organic tomato/apple ale by himself (and ale was tasty!) Also, Irene (I think she's handling online reservations) did good job communicating with me. I am happy that she texted me instead of calling me because I am deaf so I don't have to worry about missing calls.
We chose Bliss we feel like we're royal. You can't miss his noodles in black bean sauce. I normally see noodles in black bean sauce as a common/street dish, he managed to turn it into a fine dish. The sauce blew me away.
Don't think all small dishes won't fill you up! When we started with three cold Hors d'oeuvre, I thought to myself, "I am sure I won't be full at the end of dinner". Boy, I was wrong, I was satisfyingly full after hotpot and noodles.
I hope we can find another reason, than our anniversary, to come back again!
An oasis of fine Chinese dining, Chef Guo is one of the best meals and dining experience in the DC area. The multi dish set meal, with impeccable service and beautiful presentation, is an experience seldom found in the suburbs. The food is outstanding, with tastes with a variety of tastes and textures, and rivals some of the best in the DMV. The dining room is serene. While expensive, Chef Guo is worth every penny.
I must say odd location but once inside you'd never know it. Food was excellent. Rare to have the actual chef actually making the food as opposed to never being there. While Chef Guo may not be a well known celebrity chef here in the US he appears to be in China and having him working in the kitchen involved in every course was refreshing and exciting. Each course is small but there are many of them and I was completely stuffed by the end. Overall a very good experience.
Amazing gourmet Chinese food like you've never had before! Master Chef Guo is truly in a class of his own as he blends ancient Chinese cooking with modern culinary/nutritional science. A must-try, and I definitely think this place is deserving of Michelin recognition... It's off the beaten path, so may need more time to gather a bigger following.
Amazing interesting experience. It's very rare to get a high end multi-coursed meal with Asian food. Food tasted fantastic and presentation was some of the best I've ever seen in my life
This is the one of the best restaurant I've been to. The hospitality of the staff was so nice, and the food was full of creativity. Must Visit!
Came here on my birthday and absolutely love the ambience of the restaurant. We ordered the tasting menu, the food was prepared artfully and all had a delicious taste. We appreciate the Chinese cooking technique with French influences. I will definitely come back on special occasions.
This place is phenomenal! We spent a wonderful night here for our anniversary!
Great presentation without being pretentious. They certainly made our day special. Don't be fooled by its location nor exterior though. This is truly fine dining.
It’s truly Exceptional experience in a lifetime.I am not even sure there are words that will let me explain this experience. The food was outstanding and the service was also exceptional. It is a little expensive but for that once in a lifetime treat it is definitely worth it. The servers wear the Chinese imperial style uniforms perfectly matched with restaurant environments. The foir gras was the best I have ever had. The surprises and delights just kept coming!!!
One of the best dinner i’ve had! Greate attention to detail for service! Dishes are beautifully presented and taste delicious! Can’t wait to go back!
An absolute pleasing experience. They serve very delicious foods, and the service is phenomenal. Looking forward to come back with my coworks.
Great experience! The restaurnt is beautiful, clean, and calm. The presentation of each course was stunning and taste delicious. Absolutley worth your time and money.
Never had fine Chinese food before, it definitely met all my expectations! Each course of the meal is beautifully presented and delicious. The staff was outstanding and super professional. I will be back for sure.
I had an amazing experience at Chef Guo. 12 courses menu can’t find in any other Chinese restaurant. The food and atmosphere are outstanding. It was excellent choice for out anniversary. My wife can’t wait to try another menu. I think they have three different menu.
Authentic Chinese imperial cuisines！If you are a healthy eater and want to try some modern Chinese food, definitely recommend this place! I have been many upscale French, Japanese restaurants. This is one of the best!
Great presentation without being pretentious. They certainly made our anniversary special. Don't be fooled by its location nor exterior. This is fine dining.
CHEF GUO World famous chef, Chinese national treasure chef, the most famous chef in contemporary China. The dishes are so beautiful, so rich, exquisite royal color tableware, all use more than ten kinds of vegetarian materials such as natural ingredients, fungi, etc. It is really the top brand of the top Chinese food in the United States.
Unique preparation and delicious tasting menu. The atmosphere and service are exceptional. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Worth the visit again.
I really enjoyed having lunch at Chef Guo. The food is designed with care, and every bite was unique. I could feel all of their effort from each every dish. Can't wait to return for dinner.
Superb! If you want to try some high standard chinese food, come here. Place looks classy, every bite was delicious, and service is uniquelt courteous. Deserving of my 5 stars.
My friend recommended this spot. Well, we had a wonderful lunch experience for both the food and service. The atmosphere is beautify, calm, and perfect for you to enjoy each course. Definitely a place I would come back to.
The best service ever! The server was warm and welcoming when we arrived . You will feel like home! The food is fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. Appreciated the great experience, and definitely goanna come back when we want to treat ourselves again.
Came here for luch. If you want a high end experience, this is a good option. Place is gorgeous, food had a lot of flavor, and the waiter was very attentive. Probably the best thing i've had in long time. No doubt about coming back here.
Superb restaurant. I had an amazing dinner experience here with my friends. The dinning romm is very classy. Our server is very attentive, he worked tirelessly to make sure our dinner was perfect. Every course of the meal was better than the last. Fabulous choice for a special occasion.
Went for the tasting menu with colleagues during lunch time. The service and quality of food is top notch. Each bite was the perfect balance of flavor. It was a great experence, I highly recommend this restaurant for everyone.
Beautiful ambiance and presentation of the food. Not my preferred Chinese food to eat
An upscale Chinese food!
The food is awesome! With carefully designed plate and fresh materials, the experience there is better than most Michelin Star restaurant in DC, or DaDong in NYC.
The only part that needs to be improved is the location. Hard to believe such a high level restaurant stays at a belt mall with Giant and Exxon around.
The food is very good. But the waitress is not as professional as other Michelin restaurants. She is not very familiar with the food that chef made. And I feel she hurry us to finish some of the dishes. And the air conditional doesn't work at that day so the whole restaurant is sooooo hot.
Wow. Took my foodie spouse here as a suppose and verdict was “this is the best gourmet meal I’ve ever had.” And he’s had a few. Every course was delicious, kind and elegant service, quiet date night.
I am not sure why my previous comment was deleted by the system or anyone from the restaurant, but my experience in Chef Guo was totally frustrated. Courses provided there were a waste of materials. Except for the set menu, nothing there justified “fine dining”. The foie gras and truffles were terrible, and you can definitely make yourself fried lobster tail with mayo at home. DO NOT GO TO CHEF GUO unless you plan to throw two hundred bucks into trash bin. If you have checked them earlier on yelp, there was a warning that many positive comments are posted from one same IP address. Maybe this comment would be deleted in a few days, I just hope that someone interested in this terrible restaurant is fully informed.
Fm Oct 2018,restaurant has been attacked by writing bad reviews on Yelp/Google, etc.A defamation complaint is filed. This review, visited 6/10,reviewed 9/22,normally review is left shortly after visit, not 3.5 mths aft.A similar review left on Yelp same day.Consumer alert on Yelp can be copied from other account.Bad review can be left from same IP too.The review is angry itself, not just like an unsatisfied customer! A proverb says"if you are out to condemn someone,U can always trump up a charge."
This is my second visit to Chef Guo after reading the review in the Washington Post. The first visit we had the Eternal Bliss Hot Pot feast, and then the Peace & Prosperity feast for our second visit. We loved our food on both visits. The food presentations are very beautiful and different from the regular Chinese Meals. We had no negative comment except to point out that Chef Guo does change the item on the menu. We had our scallop changed to fish steak on our first visit and the tomato ale changed to the apple ale on both of our visits, these changes were never mentioned to us before and during our visits. The menu at the table that we used to track the meals also didn't reflect these changes. The apple ale was good, but we just wonder if we will get to try the tomato ale if we go back for the Gem & Jade feast. I also agree with the Post's review (by Tim Carman on May 8) that the location (in a strip mall) is kind of strange for this type of restaurant, but it does provide easy access to 395 off the Duke Street Exit. Another fun fact is that Chef Guo shaved the truffle over our soup, but we though it was an assistance or a waiter, so we didn't get a picture with him at the table. May be next time. Our waitress (Irene?) also was very good at explaining the food and how to attack the plate..
I took my dad there for a special occasion. He is a very picky eater, given he was a chef all his life. He was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the food was. Every dish was well thought out and tastefully displayed. The staffs were super friendly and the chef came out and greet us with Apple champagne:) what a treat!! It’s one of a kind imperial Chinese food tasting! My dad love every single dish he had. We highly recommend this place if you are interested trying out high end Chinese cuisine, that focused on preserving the natural flavor of food.
This was the most incredible culinary experience so far. I did 12 course tasting menu, everything was superb! I can’t wait to come back.
