I do like my curries and our lamb and prawn dishes were both excellent. Tasty, as spicy as described in the menu, not at all oily and good portion size.
The restaurant wasn't that busy, and given the lack of natural light, that meant the atmosphere was a bit lacking, otherwise everything else was very good.
I go here often and love the food and decor. However, I had made a late night booking for Sunday for 9.30. When I arrived, they had already put up the “closed” sign. This inconvenienced me and my friend, and I am upset that a booking was ‘allowed’ for a timing when the restaurant closes.
Good wholesome South Indian food, friendly service. The food however did not arrive piping hot, which rather spoiled the experience. The restaurant is both busy and extremely noisy, so if a romantic dinner or a business meeting is your motive for eating here, you would be better off elsewhere.
The service was fantastic and the food was outstanding! Most of us had the Thali “sampler” plates. Try it!
Buzzing atmosphere, delicious food , excellent service what else can I say?
Grey atmosphere and great food
Excellent, authentic south Indian food. Delightful experience - very friendly staff
The restaurant had a great vibe which made you feel that you were in the west end and not on its outskirts. The staff were friendly and attentive from the moment we walked through the door and the food was most enjoyable.
This is the second time I have been there and it will probably not be the last.
Excellent, straightforward South Indian restaurant in Bloomsbury. A very high standard of cooking with precise use of spices. The Thalis are generous and very good value. The dining area is quite simple, and with hard surfaces throughout, the noise level is rather high - not somewhere for a quiet, or even not so quiet conversation. Aside from that minor quibble, a definite recommendation for fans of well-cooked South Indian cuisine.
Best Indian food I've tasted in London. Great place, highly recommend.
Service and food was excellent! Despite a party of twelve who got seated ahead of us, our party of five were served on time and graciously. The chicken biryani, veggie thali, meen kolambu, plain dosas and desserts were cooked to perfection. Highly recommend!
Authentic & tasty South Indian food in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.
Not a bad restaurant- interesting as it is South Indian and so slightly different menu from the normal
Customer service was terrible. We were treated very poorly by the staff
Great food and value !
Great food and outstanding service
Food was excellent. Service was attentive. Very reasonable. Will definitely go back.
The frying prawn from starter menu is very delicious
Good experience in this excellent Indian restaurant. Arif who served us was helpful and kind. We recommend!
The staff were friendly and helpful guiding me through the menu as I am used to Northern Indian cuisine and not southern. The food was excellent and we did not have to wait long for it to arrive.
Lovely food and wasn’t that busy. Staff were great as well. However not sure why would they charge 12.5% service charge for a small family. That’s the only thing I didn’t like.
Food was lovely, great variation to a standard indian
We ate here last Saturday. It was busy so booking would be recommended. The staff were friendly and professional. The food was first rate, a lot of their own recipes (we tried two of these dishes and were very impressed with the depth of flavour and quality of ingredients) as well as the usual fare. It was reasonable value and I look forward to returning their next time we are in the area. I would heartily recommend Chettinad to anyone.
Really very nice. Interesting menu, nicely prepared fresh food and attentive staff.
Definitely worth a visit.
Excellent food. Been before and wanted to return. Never been to south India but food seems really authentic.
Great food highly recommend
Friendly staff and a great atmosphere combined with well cooked Indian food. No complaints at all.
This is a great genuine South Indian restaurant w great selection of dishes, very friendly service and informal and relaxed atmosphere. I am sure we'll come again.
The food and service were average. Overall, the restaurant visit was satisfying but not impressive enough for special occasions.
Excellent restaurant for our group of vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Lots of choice for both. Loved the prawn and lamb curries.
Good food, really lovely. Tasty and enjoyable and will return soon
The previous time we ate there we thought overall that the food was better. Perhaps we ordered dishes that were too alike - but it was not easy to tell the difference between the chicken and lamb dishes by taste, or look! However, the starter platter was superb, and the service very gracious.
This was my first visit and I was impressed. Great food, fresh and authentic. Our evening was marred by a large, very noisy table next to us but this is obviously not the restaurant’s fault in any way. The dosa and vegetarian dishes were especially good and everything was good value, I’ll definitely be back...
The waiter could have smiled a little bit more seemed upset we'd arrived. Once we'd sat down he was only to happy to explain what was on the menu as it was very different to any other menu I'd come across. Food and service was very good
Great spot, but the service suffers from being so popular! They were able to accommodate three groups greater than 6 people, but that drove the noise level right up. Recommend the restaurant for the food, but the service and noise are definitely detractors.
Very nice food with an enchanting service
A flavour trip of senses
Seafood thali was delicious! I will definitely be back.
Excellent flavours, subtle spices. Enjoyed every dish we ordered.
Fantastic authentic food. Great service. Love to go again.
