We visited Chettinad for my birthday with friends. The front of house service was a bit haphazard, but improved throughout the night. The highlight of the evening was the starter: The Chettinad Platter - Wow, Simon Lynne delicious and would thoroughly recommend this with some rice or breads. The paneer dosa was a disappointment. It was folded flat and soggy and heavy. I have had dosa once before from a London Street food stall on the South Bank and was hoping to relive this amazing experience, but it just didn’t compare. The accompaniments were bland and didn’t add anything to the dosa, I would either try a different one or avoid altogether. The curry’s were OK. My friend had the Lamb Madras and really enjoyed it (if you truly like chilli spice). My husband and I had the same lamb curry, but I asked for mine to have a little extra spice. What I got was the same curry, but with some fresh chopped green finger chillies added in at the last minute. The result was quite unpleasant as the chillies hadn’t been cooked in or through the curry. I wish the waiter had either recommended an alternative spicier curry or suggested that that might not work as a dish. Either way I didn’t eat the majority of my dish and it marred my eating experience. The Sicilian red wine we ordered was delicious! All in all a mixed experience. Their Chettinad Platter would be worth another visit for, but I wouldn’t eat the remainder we ordered that night again.
It was my daughter's birthday, I resheared the place first but the food was mediocre at best I was disappointed
This is a South Asian Restaurant. The food is excellent. Specially the paper thin Dosai. There are vegetarian and meat and we ordered different Dosais and they were all very good.
The ordered drinks came on time but the jug of water we asked for did not come to the table until two reminders were given!
Bad food - hard lamb appetizer tasteless dosa. An example of a featureless restaurant
Southern food was a first for us. Our waiter made good suggestions. The dinner was delicious. The atmosphere was attractive and the noise level moderate. We enjoyed this and if in London again would go back.
It was good and well priced. The spicing had surprising complexity. But the array of other ingredients in each dish was less interesting. The options for indian food in the vicinity are pretty good. So if the specific location is a must, the budget is spare, and ambience matters, Chettinad is a good choice.
Loved the food! Would definitely recommend :)
PS: A little Smile from the staff wouldn’t hurt.
Gutes Essen, aber sehr laut, wenn gut besucht. Keine Fenster. Am besten einen Platz nahe am Eingang wählen
Amazing food, fresh and authentic. Service lovely and atmosphere great. We visited as part of a trip to London but would return if we were in the area again.
The food was stellar! The biriyani I ordered was a good level of spicy and the rice was very flavorful! My friends ordered the chicken masala and they both liked it. One of them had had a bad experience before with curry and didn’t think he would like it be he was very happy with it.
Really nice and good indian restaurant. The food is very tasty but nothing outstanding. The atmosphere is craudy and noisy but in a good way. The service is really disorgenized but somehow it works. The prices are resonable.
Lovely food, great, friendly service, and a nice ambience in a great location! What's not to love? :)
Great food, reasonable prices. Excellent service. Would recommend.
The waiter mucked up the order big style. Wrong beer and only 1 starter and 1 main despite there being 3 of us. However they reacted well to their mistake and were very friendly and courteous. The food was very tasty especially the mini massala Dosa. Price was reasonable.
A 12.5% servicecharge was added and min spending is £15 per person
The food here is delicious; we went for an early evening meal and the service, friendliness and quality of the food were excellent. Would definitely go again.
Very nice restaurant and very nice desert. I recommend the gulab jaman with ice cream. Food was slightly spicy.
Ok food - nothing special. The service was good and price was fair.
Very Nice and authentic south Indian Food! Very Nice massala dosa and Curry Madras
Service was very slow but they had gluten free options and decent portions. Food was a bit bland but still good. There was however a very unpleasantly strong odor of bleach throughout the restaurant.
Fantastic food, but a very noisy restaurant - no soft furnishings: hard wood floors, stone and plaster board walls and tall ceilings. To be fair to the restaurant, we did go at 7pm on a Friday night before Christmas, so it was full of large groups of people celebrating. I would go back at a quieter time as the food was very good - the two of us just found it hard to hear each other, and ironically I has requested a quiet table!
Authentic Food. The thali is very filling and can actually be shared between 2 people with some extra rotis or rice.
I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant for beautifully prepared authentic South Indian food.It is so different from the standard Bangladeshi curry house.Excellent for vegetarians and carnivores and very good value for money.
Let's get real here guys - this is a very average but clean Indian restaurant. It is well positioned off Tottenham Court Road and the staff were pleasant but the previous rave reviews are a total exaggeration. We had a perfectly acceptable meal before the theatre but it is nothing outstanding and just had the normal 'run of the mill' Indian food.
Selected at random on the basis of reviews. We had a perfectly acceptable meal, but not a stand out. The dishes were all good enough and the Service friendly.
Super impressed with the food esp as our punjabi relatives had never sampled South Indian/Tamil cuisine.Thali was the perfect choice to sample lots of veg and non veg dishes
They were very busy so took some time to get us drinks but are so warm and lovely we didn’t mind and the food made up for it!
Recommend and would go again!
Great dosa's and thali's. Tables were a little small so we were a bit squashed, but the food was great and service as you'd expect. Highly recommended.
We love the South Indian food, the central location, the huge dosas and the affordable pricing. We don't love the very noisy restaurant, the rather sullen service from some (not all) waiters and the fact that they marked us as a no-show two days after our reservation so we had to chase the points we were owed.
The food was absolutely amazing! The meat was cooked to perfection and had the right amout of spices. If you like south indian food I recommend this place :)
The food was tasty, not very hot when it arrived though. The service was poor, my guests commented on it being cheeky that a service charge was added. Though the food was good I wouldn't recommend as things such as repeatedly forgetting drink orders was awkward.
This restaurant produces a varied menu of very flavoursome choices.
The Staff are attentive to personal preferences and helpful with suggestions on the level of spice and what to accompany a dish with.
My only disappointment was that despite the service being swift and attentive, the actual temperature at which the meal was served, was luke warm. However, I still enjoyed it, and left nothing for the dog.
Estuvo delicioso, nos dejamos recomendar por los asistentes al restaurante, la mayoría eran indios y comimos muy rixo
Great food and great service. The food was varied and delicious and the staff were all extremely friendly. Great value for money
Enjoyed the evening meal.
Just right in terms of spice in the food. I had the meat thali.
My wife lamb curry which was delicious. The Chapatti was a bit chewey.
Overall the experience and decor was excellent.
Excellent food. This was my third visit. Every time their food amazed me!
A great place to have south indian food. Good customer services. Masala dosas were on check! Must go for authentic south indian food!
The Chettinad isn't an ordinary Indian restaurant. The cuisine is from the tiny Chettinad region in the centre of Tamil Nadu and has differently flavoured dishes to those usually associated with South India. The staff and charming and thoughtful and the chef deserves a gold medal.
Evening meal with a friend - we had a lovely time. The food was absolutely excellent and the servers were kind and considerate.
Really impressed with the food, would definitely like to come back and try the full menu (we were there for lunch).
Service was quick, and friendly.
