Chez Billy Sud
What Insiders Are Saying
For classic French food in Georgetown, head to Chez Billy Sud.
Wonderful dinner with great atmosphere
Great restaurant but sadly there were too many crying babies for such s high end establishment.
Wonderful French bistro, charming old European decor, with beautiful fare. It’s ideal for women who want a fine lunch dining treat.
Waitress told us about wine list & small producers. Service was excellent.
Wonderful lunch there. I had the trout. Excellent. Better yet was our waiter (Luc I think). He was really fun and made us feel special.
We will definitely be back.
My recommendation would be to broaden choices for lunch -
We always love the food and atmosphere here.
Food was not at our very high expectations, given what we had heard. Decent, but classics such as duck confit should be less salty and skin crispy (ours was a bit hard and dried out). Desserts were less refined than expected. Rillette of fish as starter was very good. The setting is great, and service was excellent. Made for a very nice special occasion.
We're always looking for restaurants to try in DC, since we tend to go to a narrow range of tried and true spots (LaChaumiere, 1789, Filomenas, Blue Tavern, etc.). We had seen this little restaurant for awhile now and decided to try it for my husband's birthday. We're so glad we did: the food was great, the service was excellent and we could talk-- no noise interference. Thumbs up all around. We'll be back!
Surprising find. Very charming bistro...food was perfect, and service excellent. A new fave!
Nice night in cozy restaurant while snowing outside. Although service was a little slow very nice in letting us try wines before purchasing. Good was excellent. Onion soup was a 10 and the salmon and trout excellent. Bib lettuce salad was just okay. Bread also was a 10. Little expensive but definitely nice
Great first experience at Chez Billy Sud. Good food, lovely decor and excellent service. We look forward to returning when it’s warm enough to sit on the patio.
Perfect, as always. Unobtrusive service, great food.
As fairly frequent visitors to Georgetown from California, we always find time for dinner at Chez Billy Sud. The friendly yet professional staff welcomes us into the warm atmosphere of what feels like a small French bistro. The menu is well-chosen, offering traditional French dishes that arrive fresh and perfectly executed. At this visit my husband’s confit du canard was, he says, the best he’s ever had. My trout was crisp, moist, and buttery, livened with lemon and capers and al dente vegetables. Superb.
The cocktails are generous and well constructed and the wine list thoughtfully selected and well-priced. We always enjoy being tucked among an interesting mix of locals.
Good traditional French bistro.
Unpretentious. Nice food. Nice wines. Good unobtrusive service. None of this ‘hi I am so and so bs’ that you are likely to get at many other restaurants in this town.
Professional waiters paying attention....
Lovely little spot wonderful service -food-atmosphere
Best place in DC for hitting the mark on food, ambiance, service, staff knowledge -- a higher end French casual - always executes well on their menu
Wonderful food and excellent service. Lovely spot for a pre theater meal and then a scenic walk to the Kennedy Center via the waterfront. Memorable liver mousse and crispy trout.
Charming atmosphere with excellent food. We had the mussels and a terrific interpretation of Nicoise Salad for lunch. The decafe coffee was also rich and delicious.
We were very happy with everything
Great spot. Server was knowledgeable and helpful. All aspects of the meal were outstanding.
A lovely meal with attentive staff! I would definitely go again
Second time as good as first, service could be more attentive, but will be back soon
We LOVED our waitress! Food and everything was fantastic!
A very good lunch! Excellent food, excellent service. Many thanks!!
We love Chez Billy Sud. This was the second time we had our New Year's dinner with them. We had a 10:30 date after the theater. The food was fantastic and the wine pairing masterful. Service, even with a 10:30 start was perfect. We love their brunch, lunch and normal dinner menu too. Our favorite place in Georgetown.
Didn't seem to have our reservation. Got there at 8:57 for a 9pm reservation for 2 and they asked us to wait until an 8:45 no showed to get seated. Then got seated at the draftiest 4-top in the restaurant. Then took a bit to even get water from our server even though a number of wait staff milled about the host stand. The food was good, but nothing inventive or unique. Don't think I'll be back.
Really enjoyed our meal and service here. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic - we got the salmon and trout, cheesecake for dessert. Everything is priced reasonable for the quality. You feel like you are transplanted to a restaurant in France - great ambiance !
My husband and I, along with our two grown children dined at Chez Billy Sud during a short trip to the DC area. The atmosphere was charming, the staff warm and welcoming, our food choices divine, and our waiter provided outstanding service. We’ll definitely return when we’re in town again. I highly recommend!
Love chez billy. Great French food, great vibes. The attached bar next door might have the best cocktails I’ve ever had!
This is a lovely little spot in Georgetown. Setting is romantic and very evocative of a small restaurant in Paris. The service was professional on all levels from the manager to the food runners. Chicken liver mousse was fabulous and so was the much over-presented Caesar salad. Also, something that is indeed very difficult to find these days -- delicious French bread presented before the food. We were very hungry when we arrived, so the bread was doubly appreciated. Entrees of joke de boeuf and steak frites were truly filling and so delicious.
Food timing can be improved. Table was not cleared when entree arrived couldn’t have paced better. Felt rushed
Chez billy Sud is a grea
Food wonderful as always. Service unusually poor. Will ask to sit in another waiter’s section next time we go.
We always splurge for our Anniversary dinner (22 and counting!) so I was looking for a special restaurant. I came across Chez Billy Sud in my searching. It's a very small restaurant on a side street in Georgetown with a discreet sign and menu. Once inside we were treated to a memorable meal: the waiter was knowledgeable and professional, the food was superlative, the cocktails were unique and very tasty. The overall ambiance of the place was great! It is expensive but not unreasonably so. I enjoyed our entire experience and will return. Plan to book it a week or more in advance.
Wonderful Saturday brunch, made even nicer by our server, Tiffany.
Delicious meal of pate, Cesar salad, salmon, and steak frites with great service in a very comfortable, cozy setting. Can’t beat this for date night!
We went for our office holiday party (five of us). It was absolutely perfect. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was just charming. I can't wait to go again.
Wonderful place to celebrate with an intimate atmosphere
