Wonderful fusion of flavours, totally enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend China Chilcano.
Best. Meal. Ever. Tasting menu was an exceptional value. Service was a touch informal but okay. My new favorite restaurant!
Amazing experience as usual! Our table was surprisingly quiet.
The food was good, but we weren't thrilled with our waiter. He didn't come to our table for 15 minutes after we were sat and then didn't even acknowledge it or apologize. I don't mind waiting if it's busy, but I need to do it with a drink in my hand. At least we had water (good service from the water guy). The food and drinks came quickly (thanks to the runners) and were all very tasty, but when we wanted to order dessert, again, no waiter. By the time he came, we told him we just want the check instead of dessert. Won't risk going back.
It was absolutely great!! The food was great, the service was very nice with good recommendations and it was a great experience. 100% recommendable!
Very interesting mix of flavors and textures. The causa limeña is delicious and presented in a surprising way!
Food was amazing!
Simply AMAZING food! Creative and delectable. Fantastic service, great ambiance.
One of my favorite restaurants in DC. Unique menu, creative dishes and reasonable pricing. Highly recommend China Chilcano.
Disappointing birthday dinner.
Came here with my friend to celebrate her birthday. Called to let the host know we might be fifteen minutes late, told no worries. Get to the restaurant 10 minutes late and am told by the host that she was about to "no show" us (despite not being 15 minutes late). Host asks if we're still here to celebrate the birthday (thanks for ruining the surprise) and gets us to our seat. Once we sat down, a gentleman came to serve us water and left. Never saw our server. After sitting there for about 15minutes I wave the gentleman over. He asks if we'd like to order drinks. Considering that we had been sitting here for a while we were essentially ready to order most of our food. We order. Eventually we're two dishes in and our drinks still haven't arrived. Another 10minutes go by, I wave the server over and he tells us our drinks will be out shortly.
I really don't want to have to hate on a Jose Andres restaurant but this was by far the WORST experience ever. The server rarely came to our table. We had to wave him down anytime we needed anything. Moreover no one would clear our plates or drinks. We constantly had to wave someone over as well to grab them as they were starting to pile up.
We eventually ordered a second round of drinks and a fruit fly was in one of them... I know it's not our severs fault but it was just the cherry on top of the cake. We also ordered the arroz a la cubana and it was so dry and bland. It was just rice, egg, and some garnish. No sauce. Nothing. While the rest of the food was delicious (as always), that dish was extremely disappointing.
Between the host's attitude, the server's absence, the long wait for the drinks, and the blend dish, this made for a subpar experience. I'm extremely disappointed because I wanted my friend to have a wonderful experience for her birthday but it was a fail. We didn't even order dessert, we just wanted to get out of there ASAP. :(
Loved the ceviche and the cocktails
The food and service was great. However, the hostess refused to give us a table because we didn't have a reservation and she didn't have tables. Then, while i was waiting, i opened my opentable app and did a reservation , told the hostess and we were seated. Why didn't she gave us a table if there were tables available?
The tasting menu is overpriced. The quality is not really good.
Good! Nice food
Loved this place. My mom and I were visiting DC and had a late lunch here. We're Peruvian and tend to be picky with Peruvian fusion, but this place was fantastic. We had the shishito peppers, duck tiradito, chicken anticucho, California causa and tam tam. Chocolate cake for dessert. All dishes were very flavorful and the chocolate cake was just the right richness. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Really enjoyed our meal - delicious food, excellent service.
Another excellent experience with the Think Food Group. We dined at mid day on a Sunday, the noise level was low so conversation was easy. The unfamiliar menu items were described clearly and accurately by very competent staff. The food is wonderfully balanced flavors and textures. The unfamiliar ingredients, become things you want to know better. A completely enjoyable experience.
We had the Chilcano tasting menu for 2. Everything was delicious, and we were pleasantly surprised when the dishes just kept coming out! Left feeling full but not overly stuffed. It was a great value for all that we got.
Another excellent JA experience!
Had dim sum for a nice weekend lunch. The food was exceptional at a reasonable price. I will be returning.
Great ambiance, good sashimi, small dishes
Wonderful Asian and Peruvian fusion food. You will get addicted to the roasted corn snacks that come to each table! Beware.
Excellent food; Chef Andres knocks it out of the park again
Fun place to eat
It was all so amazing! Food, service, attention to my food allergies and their cautiousness to my restrictions! Made me feel safe and comfortable knowing I wouldn’t be fed something that could kill me!
I always love taking out-of-town friends to China Chilcano. The food is fresh, creative, & delicious. Service is top-notch — friendly & efficient. And contributing to Chef José Andres’s coffers helps support the great work of World Central Kitchen. I highly recommend this terrific restaurant.
A very inventive, very tasty restaurant. The food is varied and everything we had was excellent. The only problem was that we had to wait 45 minutes even though we had a reservation. I am not sure whether the restaurant booked people too close together or if people were just lingering longer than normal, but it was a little frustrating. The restaurant did comp us a round of drinks and our server was very attentive and quick. I would definitely go again despite the wait. The food was worth it.
Wonderful all around great staff
Had a delicious time. 4 of us sit in a high backed booth that allowed for easy conversation. The staff were very pleasant and efficient. We shared the tasting menu. It was amazing and more than enough food for 4. The octopus ceviche was a standout. Lomo saltado also very good.
Wish they did wine/spirit pairings. Even small poursor flights. One wine does not suit the tasting menu. They also would not allow tastings of Peruvian wines.
Great fun with family
We got to hang out and just do great food and libation with support from the waiter , enthusiasm from all of the FOH peeps
Everything was great, and the restaurant was very gracious in lowering the volume of the speakers, as we felt we couldn't chat. The one comment I'd make the kitchen is to review the age of the oil they fry things in. Both the canchita (corn) in the bowls at the table, and the wantan we ordered, tasted like old, re-used oil had been used to fry them. It had a rancid flavor. Not very appealing. We happen to have grown up eating Peruvian cuisine at home and know that that's not the taste one wants to have.
China Chilcano never disappoints - the food, drinks, atmosphere, and staff are all amazing. I live in the Midwest and come to DC multiple times a year for meetings. It blows my mind that there are always exciting new dishes and drinks on the menu.
During our most recent visit we ordered one of these dishes: the Choclo Antichuchero. All guests at our table thought it was one of the most delicious, novel dishes we'd ever eaten. And when it comes to drinks, Jopis is a mixology genius. Watching him create and serve dozens of drinks, for dozens of guests, in just minutes, is like watching a magician perform magic.
As usual, all guests who joined me for dinner most recently had one thing to say about China Chilcano: "Wow!"
Amazing cuisine. Lots of flavours. Loved it all. I fully recommend.
The atmosphere is so much fun and the food delicious. We had a super time at dinner there!
Great food and service, as always. I wish that is was a little less noisy, but given the popularity of this restaurant, that may be hard to achieve.
Extremely slow service. Our "Lunch" ended up taking two hours because we couldn't get waiters/staff attention. We asked for the check but it never came and we had to pay standing on our way out.
Tasty and great service!
Loved it - Fantastic experience. The creativity and flavor of the food was wonderful. Not to mention that Jose Andres is a hero for having done all of the work he does for hurricane victims. Overall it was an outstanding invaluable experience.
Extremely attentive staff and delicious food!
The tuna donburi is wonderful. Love the food. The Suspiro Limena is an experience!!
