What Insiders Are Saying
Jose Andres’ new place isn’t quite up to the level of his other spots, but it’s a fun time for Peruvian, Japanese, and Chinese fusion.
I can't imagine spending Restaurant Week in DC anywhere else. Spent the weekend in DC and so happy it coincided with restaurant week. Portion size was very generous and as always, the presentation was perfect. Staff was attentive as ever. And oh those Pisco Sours ! ! I support Chef Andres whenever I'm in town.
Some friends and I went here for restaurant week and loved it! The food was fantastic and the macerados were amazing. Our waitress was helpful and attentive and they took the time to explain what was in each dish. Fabulous experience, can't wait to return!
Friendly service. Unique and interesting dishes, all delicious.
Loved this place. Creative menu and decor. Very laid back and easy going.... a good place to have a conversation with friends while dining.
Top notch meal - the $55 tasting menu is a great value.
I left China Chilcano feeling just fine. Nothing really hit it out of the park, or was very memorable. I was much more impressed with Oyamel.
The food was amazing. I am a vegetarian and had enough options, which I appreciated. The service was surprisingly slow, and the place busy this noisy. Other than that, great experience!
Went to celebrate a friend’s birthday during Restaurant Week and the meal was excellent. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The service was great. Will definitely go back.
Great restaurant week menu!
We went for restaurant week and the food was unique and delicious! I would definitely go back to try items on the regular menu.
Best Pisco Sours north of Lima. The food was great. Went for Restaurant week, will try ordering off the menu next time.
Food was delicious and tasty! Service was a little slow due to restaurant week but it was worth the wait. I had a good time. Definitely worth going.
Great restaurants—unique cuisine, fun drinks, great service and ambiance. Really fun date night with another couple. Just wouldn’t go there seeking quiet but we weren’t.
Still a favorite of mine. Took my daughter for her first time and she loved it as well
Restaurant week menu is wonderful, a real foodie adventure.
Fantastic food. Interesting and delicious. Great vibe. Attentive, helpful service.
Great food and drinks. Lots to explore on the menu. We will definitely be back to continue the adventure.
I have eaten there a couple of times since my office is a block away. This was not my first choice of restaurant, but my friends wanted to try a Peruvian (fusion) restaurant new to them and they chose this one. After lunch, we all agreed that "it is just ok". I ate the locro with shrimp and I liked it but nothing we ate gave us the "wow!" factor.
Food, drinks and service was amazing. Would highly recommend!!
My husband and I were vacationing in Washington DC and China Chilcano was highly recommended to us by a good friend. We had some amazing food and the service was excellent. My sister-in-law is Chinese but grew up in Peru. She recommended several dishes. The loma saltado was excellent and very tasty. The two desserts that were recommended by the server were especially good. So glad that we were able to eat here!
Amazing experience. Thank you so much for that lovely lunch
Fabulous food, excellent staff, cool decor- I would eat here everyday.
The food and ambiance were fantastic. They also have amazing pisco cocktails.
we enjoyed cocktails and a relaxed dinner for two. the place was very busy, so the service was a bit slow. overall a great night out.
Great place...cool vibe and decor.
Food was great. Awesome experience overall.
Had a group dinner here for a friend's birthday and we all got the $55 tasting menu. Dishes were delicious and the service was on point. Great for a group and and recommend it for bringing out of town friends/family.
Outstanding food and serve with a great atmosphere. Ever dish we had was fantastic. Note that it is quite noisy.
We had the $55 per person tasting menu and we were delighted with (almost) every dish. There were many courses - much more than we should have eaten, but it was too good! And the leftovers were great the next day. Highly recommended as a tour of Peruvian cuisine - as good as any we have had during our multiple trips to Peru.
Food, as usual for a Jose Andres restaurant, was very good. Service was very good in terms of waiter's knowledge and pleasantness, but one dish (shisito peppers) arrived quite late in our meal -- less like a side dish than a green and savory dessert. The noise level was much louder than I remembered, way too loud for easy conversation between just the two of us. But I'd go back -- maybe on a quieter day like a Monday.
I went to China Chilcano on a friday night for a date, and the restaurant was packed. The food was delicious, the service was only ok, but I'm gonna chalk it up to the amount of people in the restaurant causing the staff to be a little forgetful and slow. I'd highly recommend China Chilcano to anyone interested in going.
This food is DELICIOUS. I took my mom here for her birthday. If you've never been, do the tasting menu and get a little bit of everything. The must haves are definitely the soup dumplings, classic ceviche, and the yucca fries. I would go back every day if I could.
Wonderful and unusual foods! An amazing culinary experience! Another great Andres restaurant!
This restaurant is fantastic! Make sure you order their special Peruvian chicken dish and try some of the innovative dim sum. We ordered far more than we planned because we couldn't get enough of their fabulous flavor combinations! Genius!
China Chilicano is solid. It's not Jose Andres' best restaurant by far, but the cuisine is creative and the prices are fair. I had the tuna sashimi bowl, which I think is pretty new, and I really enjoyed it. It's a good place for lunch in the Penn Quarter area.
Amazing food and service for an office outing. The lunch jn an hour menu offered the entire group tasty options. Im coming back with the hubby!
Started out horrible...bad service from one of the managers and waitress. I’ll spare you the details, but I finally got to speak to the GM after asking for him for three times, Mario Bernal, who turned the entire experience around and provided excellent service himself after the issues we had with the rest of his staff.
Every bite was great. Cocktails were solid too.
Delicious, flavorful ceviche. This was my second experience here and both times have been excellent.
Fantastic food and fantastic decor. All the servers were amazing and were very helpful with the menu when I discussed concerns over food allergies. The lamb potstickers are amazing! Will definitely be back.
