Went for brunch with my other half. He had the butcher's breakfast which is huge and will easily fill you up! I had the smashed avocado with poached egg which was light and lovely. Would definitely suggest trying a bloody Mary - best in Edinburgh in my opinion! Highly recommend!

We had a lovely night and food was nice. However the seating area is rather squashed. We were upstairs which was lovely but the tables are ridiculously close to each other . Once you are in it’s far too difficult to get out and squeeze past your neighbours table without knocking something of the table . This was the overall impression we got from people at the side of us. It was embarrassing. We are all smallish people too so I’d dread to think how anyone larger squeezes past ...

Food excellent and ambience good although tables quite close together so felt like a burger bar. During our visit we asked for advice regarding the options of coleslaw and received quite an abrupt and unhelpful response from one of your waitresses (with red dyed hair) and her manner was cold. Other waitresses were friendly and knowledgeable. Glad we dined on Tuesday evening so had the option to bring our own alcohol as steaks expensive and had just as good elsewhere for considerably less money. Sweet nice but overpriced and starters small portion (tacos).

Service was exceptional
Ambience is whoever your sitting beside (At the city centre site you shouldn't be surprised if its a little livelier )

It was my 25th birthday and have wanted to try this restaurant for a while so booked it for 4 people. Atmosphere was good, good service, food was very tasty & fresh however we never got to try the dessert and I was never told that we had a max of 2 hours and so they told us we didn’t have time for desert which I was disappointed about it wasn’t made clear on Open Table.

My husband, sister, and I were traveling from Texas and found your place on Instagram. It was our favorite meal of the trip...and we had some good ones! Our waitress was amazing - smart, funny, and very helpful in guiding us through the menu. And we loved her fabulous earrings!

I have been to the Chop House both in Leith and the Arches lots of times. This time, however, I was massively disappointed. We were sitting downstairs and at the other two tables there were a bunch of young lads who got drunk in the course of the night. They ended up invading the whole bar next to us instead of being at their tables, being loud, rude and unbearable ( we could not even hear each other, which was a shame as it was a very special occasion). Considering the premium price one has to pay for dinner in this place (Chop House at the Arches) the least the staff could do is make sure the customers are comfortable and enjoying their time without disturbing other customers. The point I am trying to make is that not a single member of the staff tried to stop the loudness (not even the manager). At some point they were even engaging with the 'party' boys.
As a frequent customer who usually loved the place and the staff, I am afraid I won't return again.

The service was initially good; we were seated early.
The service became very slow after receiving our main course. We had to wait a long time before even being able to ask for our bill.

The chateaubriand had quite a lot of sinew through it and was rarer than expected for 'medium'. Sending it back to cook longer isn't an option when you have a range of sides getting cold.

The straw fries were disappointing. Impossible to eat with a fork.

The onion rings and chilli green beans and sauces were delicious.

Disappointed overall by this visit. Didn't live up to our previous two experiences (which were excellent).

I will definitely be back to the Chop House following our recent visit. The food was fantastic and the staff were all extremely attentive and helpful. Whilst I would say that’s it’s slightly expensive I would say it’s still great value for money as the portion sizes were generous and very tasty! If I had any criticisms I would say the tables are packed too closely together (my boyfriend knocked over another table’s bottle over wine over and the waitress knocked over my cuttlery trying to get in between tables) but that is all! Looking forward to coming back :)

We had a lovely meal, both waiting and bar staff are very knowledgeable and great at explaining the menu. Food and cocktails were delicious.

Only criticism is the lack of space between tables, I had someone’s blazer brush against one of my side plates when he was trying to squeeze past - not great!!

Space is great for large tables but wasn’t as romantic as I’d hoped for.

Visited the Chop House for my partners birthday and all the staff could not have made us feel more welcome or made the event more special. As for the food...outstanding!!! Scotch egg starter was incredible, Chataubriand to share was cooked to perfection and all of the sides were absolutely delicious! We had no room left for dessert which was unfortunate as they all sounded amazing. Cannot wait to visit again!

Visited the Market street chop house for a special mother’s day dinner. Food was slightly below average but service was great. The two young guys at the bar were lovely and very warm and welcoming. Our waitress was a fab Aussie girl who took such great care of us. Very disappointed that there was no chateaubriand left. We had our reservation at 6.30 so wasn’t exactly late to be running out of what I imagine to be a popular choice seeing as this place advertises as a butchers. We instead went for the porterhouse, I found it pretty tough and tasteless and for the price we all had such high expectations. All the sides were tasty enough, loved the mac and cheese and chips. We went knowing it wouldn’t be a cheap eat but when paying such an amount for dinner for 3 people we really were expecting great things. Won’t be recommending to friends or family unfortunately as we have visited many more places in Edinburgh that offer a much higher standard of food.

Delicious brunch. Service and restaurant was fantastic. I had the butchers brunch - there was a lot of meat which was to be expected. There could have been some beans on the side so that it was a bit less dry. It was still very tasty though!

Chop House is nice for dinner but the brunch was disappointing. The menu is limited and the food was cold. Four of us ordered 3 different items from the menu and we were all very underwhelmed. There are lots of great breakfast places in Edinburgh so the Chop House will need to up their game

Visiting Edinburgh for the weekend, this restaurant came highly recommended, then because it was Scotland vs England 6 Nations game the only time we could get was 2200, and it was well worth the wait.

Friendly helpful service, a great Negroni started the meal well. Then the food. Sadly there was not a cut in a serving size that we felt we could both eat, so we opted for filet steaks at 300g, which to be fair is a lot of steak anyway. Perfectly cooked tender meat served with interesting sides and sauces. That plus the most wondeful started of squid, and I left a very happy diner.

Great place and would definitely recommend.

First time going for brunch having previously been for (excellent) dinners. Booked in advance so got a free Bloody Mary/juice with the meal. Tea and coffee included with the butchers breakfast as well so good value for money. Only down side to the meal was that the portion size was enormous. Great quality food but tough finishing it! Overall a brilliant experience that i’d highly recommend.
