The staff were very friendly and gave excellent service however the food did disappoint unfortunately which means we wouldn’t return in the future.

I spent my 30th birthday at Chop House (Market Street). I was on vacation (originally from New York City) and I was blown away by the food and the service this place has to offer. I cannot say enough good things; the staff was accommodating, kind and so lovely to be around. For any Americans out there looking for an up-scale but chill dinner experience, I highly recommend Chop House.

Food was excellent as were the cocktails. It was a very warm day and the restaurant had no air conditioning (not normally much call in Scotland for it) but being seated upstairs it was very hot and a bit uncomfortable for us. The tables were also very close together but the restaurant is small, this was the only downside.

Just Ok!

Quite pricey, ordered medium rare rump and got well done. I didn’t complain as we were too hungry. Not a kids friendly restaurant, no kids menu although Mac cheese was amazing!

The quality of the food was fantastic and the service polite, but slow (although they did apologise profusely). The choice of dishes might be a bit small for some people (don't go unless you like beef). The downside for us - a family group of 6 adults - was that the acoustics of an ex-railway tunnel are not conducive to conversation, and the rather too loud background musak didn't help. We'd probably go back nonetheless as the the food is worth it.

Fab to check out the Market Street venue for a girly lunch catch up - great service from Emma, wonderful cocktails including the best Bloody Mary ever (and that’s saying something as I have tried a few over the years) and of course amazing steak. Never going to be a cheap lunch but worth every penny

The Chop House never fails to serve great drinks and food. The steaks are just the best.... I keep going back! Don’t think twice about going. Sometimes it takes a while to get a table but that’s because it’s one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh!

I had been looking forward to eating at The Chop House for some time and the food did not disappoint. The steak was fantastic as was the starter and desert choices. We washed the meal down with a fabulous Nero D'Avola and a cheeky PicPoul de Pinet afterward...BUT....when we arrived there was a table for two sitting empty, i asked if we could site there as it was slightly separate from the others, but denied - there was no reason for this stance - we then were placed at a table that was uncomfortably close to fellow diners on either side - it was a poor start.

As we finished our main course, we were offered desert, but told that they needed the table back at 8pm (ours was a 6pm booking) - it was 7.35pm and we had not been given any indication that there was any time limit on our booking - this was also unnecessary and badly handled and has left a sour taste in the mouth.

All in all, it was a £200 night and you don't need these sort of petty issues cropping up. I think I will go back (the food was that good, the overall vibe was great and Emma was a great host (apart from the 8pm finish bit) - i will definitely choose my table beforehand, and also ensure we are not rushed.

This review is meant constructively as i thought the place was great but as first-timers to The Chop House they took the edge off what should have been a 10/10.

I went to Chop House with a group of friends for dinner on a Saturday night and we could not have been more impressed, the food was delicious - best steak I have had in Edinburgh - and the interiors and ambiance were very pleasing. But what stood out the most was the service, we had Ashley as our waitress and she was so attentive, friendly and fun, she truly made our night. Would highly recommend!

Went for brunch with my other half. He had the butcher's breakfast which is huge and will easily fill you up! I had the smashed avocado with poached egg which was light and lovely. Would definitely suggest trying a bloody Mary - best in Edinburgh in my opinion! Highly recommend!

We had a lovely night and food was nice. However the seating area is rather squashed. We were upstairs which was lovely but the tables are ridiculously close to each other . Once you are in it’s far too difficult to get out and squeeze past your neighbours table without knocking something of the table . This was the overall impression we got from people at the side of us. It was embarrassing. We are all smallish people too so I’d dread to think how anyone larger squeezes past ...

My partner and I went to the restaurant for our anniversary on April 21st. Having been to the restaurant Leith a few times previously on special occasions, we thought we’d go try Market Street, so that we could go on to town after for a few more drinks.
Unfortunately, our experience at Market Street was far below the standard and expectations set by its sister restaurant in Leith.
We were sat downstairs, which was previously agreed because we’d requested an earlier time to dine. The seating downstairs I’m sure was designed to be “quirky” but the reality is that it’s plain user unfriendly- 3 booths, which can all be set for 4, each share the moving and shaking of individual booths as they are held by one bracket. Within minutes this became pretty frustrating. You also have to flex and step into them as they are fixed... possibly the least graceful dismount from a chair I’ve ever had in a restaurant.
Because of the music volume, we ended up having to sit in the same side of the table. Though this may have been seen as being romantic, it was purely so we could hear each other. Due to this, we almost left straight away, but in the end decided to stay... ultimately we wished we hadn’t.
Next we met our waitress. A very keen individual. So eager was she to get an order out of us, that she asked 4 or 5 times in the space of 2 min... eventually we had to say we’d let he know when we were ready... it was during this time that I was trying to get my partner to relax and make sure he wanted to stay. Eventually we placed an order, only to be told that You’d sold out the lobster I’d ordered... but I could have steak. Lots of steak available... completely forgetting the earlier conversation that I don’t eat meat meat (the irony of me being in a steak restaurant is not lost on me. But my partner loves steak and I love my partner.) I could however have a range of starters. The majority of these arrived cold and inedible. I’d recommend the scallops(without the pig cheek obviously)

We had pre-booked Saturday breakfast/brunch as we were aware of the complimentary Bloody Marys and had read the menu online. We were greeted promptly on arrival and our waitress Emma was bubbly, courteous and friendly. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the recommendations from Emma whilst placing our orders. We opted for the Butcher's Breakfast and it didn't disappoint. The portions were generous and the food delicious. At no point during our visit did we feel rushed. We felt welcome and were happy to relax and enjoyed our food and the coffees which came after. We had a lovely chat with Emma as there only a handful of other diners present. We look forward to visiting the Chop House again and next time it will be for dinner and steaks.

Food excellent and ambience good although tables quite close together so felt like a burger bar. During our visit we asked for advice regarding the options of coleslaw and received quite an abrupt and unhelpful response from one of your waitresses (with red dyed hair) and her manner was cold. Other waitresses were friendly and knowledgeable. Glad we dined on Tuesday evening so had the option to bring our own alcohol as steaks expensive and had just as good elsewhere for considerably less money. Sweet nice but overpriced and starters small portion (tacos).

It was my 25th birthday and have wanted to try this restaurant for a while so booked it for 4 people. Atmosphere was good, good service, food was very tasty & fresh however we never got to try the dessert and I was never told that we had a max of 2 hours and so they told us we didn’t have time for desert which I was disappointed about it wasn’t made clear on Open Table.

I have been to the Chop House both in Leith and the Arches lots of times. This time, however, I was massively disappointed. We were sitting downstairs and at the other two tables there were a bunch of young lads who got drunk in the course of the night. They ended up invading the whole bar next to us instead of being at their tables, being loud, rude and unbearable ( we could not even hear each other, which was a shame as it was a very special occasion). Considering the premium price one has to pay for dinner in this place (Chop House at the Arches) the least the staff could do is make sure the customers are comfortable and enjoying their time without disturbing other customers. The point I am trying to make is that not a single member of the staff tried to stop the loudness (not even the manager). At some point they were even engaging with the 'party' boys.
As a frequent customer who usually loved the place and the staff, I am afraid I won't return again.

The service was initially good; we were seated early.
The service became very slow after receiving our main course. We had to wait a long time before even being able to ask for our bill.

The chateaubriand had quite a lot of sinew through it and was rarer than expected for 'medium'. Sending it back to cook longer isn't an option when you have a range of sides getting cold.

The straw fries were disappointing. Impossible to eat with a fork.

The onion rings and chilli green beans and sauces were delicious.

Disappointed overall by this visit. Didn't live up to our previous two experiences (which were excellent).
