Fantastic experience fantastic food and great service.
Overall our first visit to chop house was fabulous, although at this time it was quiet it still oozed a great ambience with its modern decor and lighting. The food was outstanding, best steak ever and cooked to perfection. Pleasant service but not overbearing. We really enjoyed it and plan to return soon.
Had a lovely meal here
Tasty but expensive. Very loud music, not a place for a chat with friends. Friendly service.
Had a great night at the chop house. Great food and service was super
I enjoyed my fillet steak, cooked perfectly. Service was very fast and staff were friendly.
First time at chop house and really enjoyed our meal
Was good but steak wasn’t as good as I had before or expected for the money . Good overall but at over £100 for two people with no bottle of wine is expensive.
First class as always! Never fails to disappoint.
Too pricey to risk it! Been for brunch so I know they can cook steaks which made it all the more disappointing that at dinner it was poor. A very very long wait to have a rib eye which was not seared, but was grey and chewy suggesting cooked with too many other steaks to poach. Not good. If you want to go.... Try booking when they won't be busy so they take the time to value you as a customer and the produce.
Lovely staff food amazing just very expensive it’s a place to go for a treat (well on my budget it is) staff full of information water filled up continuously very clean
Will be back 🌟
Fantastic as always, the lobster was an excellent addition to the ribeye.
Had been recommended chophouse by friends and was really looking forward to our meal. The staff were great from the outset and explained things well as we had not been to a steakhouse before.
We ordered our food however once it came we found the steak done rare when we asked for medium rare. Also the steak had a lot of fat despite being told the option we picked, the porterhouse, was less fatty. We also ordered fries which were forgotten and had to be asked for again.
The bill came and it had a different steak listed on it which unfortunately I only realised later on that night when looked at the invoice as we had another booking we had to rush to.
All these things wouldn't bother us normally but when you're paying a 3 figure sum of money for a meal you would not expect these small issues.
We still enjoyed our night out however it was dulled slightly by all of the above which makes us more hesitant to try chophouse again.
You go to a steak house expecting it to cook your steak as requested. An order for a rare ribeye was served with barely a hint of pink. For the prices, that's not acceptable. They made it right with a replacement and additional sides, but the ambience of the meal was gone. We'll try other establishments before this one gets a second chance.
Very friendly and informative staff. Food good noise level high but overall dining experience good.
We had a wonderful experience last year and decided to bring some friend this time around, advertising the quality of the meat and atmosphere.
We ordered a nice bone in rib eye which came out way too cooked and even a little dry unfortunately...felt like the quality of the meat went down a little...hopefully it was just bad luck
Food was good but bread a little stale. We could bring our own wine and pay a five pound corkage fee which was very welcome. Although restaurant was really quiet, as it was a Tuesday night, they sat us at a very small table and later diners right beside us so privacy was an issue; this would impact our decision to book there again.
Not overly suited for child guests. However food and service excellent. The steak sourdough from the lunch menu was amazing and great value for money. Will be back.
The food and wine were very good, the staff's recommendations were perfect and the staff themselves were very friendly.
The place has a lovely atmosphere and is very comfortable.
Prices are a bit high but matches the quality of the food.
We will surely come back next time we're in Edinburgh.
Chop House is in a good location near Waverley Station. However, the temperature in the restaurant was very hot, particularly in the upstairs seating area. There is not much air circulation. The sirloin steak was OK, not great. The rump steak, although a nice cut of meat, was overcooked. The peppercorn sauce was delicious. The wine selection is fairly limited. Prices are rather high for the value.
Went at Monday lunchtime, very quiet in terms of customers, sat downstairs briefly but music a bit too loud here and the seats a bit awkward to get on and off! Upstairs was better. Staff were friendly and attentive to a point but seemed a little distracted considering there were so few customers. Not sure how it would be if it had been busy. The starters were reasonably tasty, crab on toast and a scotch egg. I opted for the steak salad, lovely herby dressing on the fairly unimaginative salad, did not think the meat was that great considering it is a steak house but I appreciate I opted for one of the cheaper lunchtime dishes. Might have been better to have had a better steak and salad as a side. My companion’s rump steak was good with tasty sauces. We did not enjoy the flavour of the thick chips, tasted a little stale to be honest, maybe just not used to the dripping flavour. Thought it was a pricey lunch, I have enjoyed tastier food in Edinburgh at a more reasonable price.
Steak was a bit overcooked but tender. My friend, who can't have eggs ordered the non-alcoholic Cosmo which said nothing about having egg but when it came out it had egg white foam, that should be stated on the menu. Overall a good meal but a bit disappointed that everyone's steaks were overcooked.
Love “chop house “
Lovely staff .
Food is amazing
Can wait to return
Thanks for the umbrella too x
Excellent as always. Can’t fault the food and service
Wonderful food, in such a lovely and cosy location, the arches is a perfect place for it. Really couldn’t fault the food, beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Great choice of wines beers and cocktails. I just wish I wasn’t so full so I could have tried desert. Will definitely be returning.
As ever food and overall experience was absolutely amazing! the waitress couldn't have done anymore for us! cracking night
Great food and service as always. My favourite restaurant!
The food was excellent, the staff were very helpful ,friendly and nothing was a problem, the service was second to none the prices were good for the food we got.
The chateaubriand was cooked to perfection, the drinks were quick to arrive we could not fault anything at all. We will definitely book again and have recommended this place to friends
The meat was outstanding and desserts delicious as well. Sides were tasty but we were missing more vegetable options. I should also mention that the cocktails were quite good too. The setting was attractive and the staff good fun. To sum it up, this was a very good experience and a good finish of my graduation day.
A really great steak house- good drinks list, excellent food. It is quite expensive so not a 'value' meal but worth the small fortune!
I went to the Chop House for my girlfriends 30th birthday, the service and food was fantastic. As per my review above the noise level was high but that was because I proposed to my girlfriend and all the staff and other guests began to cheer when she said YES 😃. The staff went above and beyond and provided a truly outstanding level of service, I informed them of my intention to propose and suggested placing the ring in the desert. The staff also recorded the moment I proposed and sent it to my after.
Having been to Chop House, Leith, I was very excited to try the Market St. restaurant.
However, having ordered my steak medium rare, it came out well done. I returned the steak and got another sent out which was just rare. I accepted this as by this time my sides were getting cold.
I don't think I will be back here as the staff never even had the decency to throw in the sides (which were sitting cooling whilst the steak was returned) as gratitude for the mistake of the (well) overcooked steak.
It's disappointing as my visit to the Leith restaurant was exceptional.
We had the express lunch menu as we were short on time. Food was excellent, staff were friendly attentive and helpful.
Excellent again, the place is relaxed, good service and great food
A place definitely worth going again. Excellent beef!
Absolutely the best steak I’ve ever had in a restaurant! Cooked to perfection, the chips were great and the onion rings sublime!
My wife had the burger and it was equally yummy.
Cocktails are fabulous and the ambience and service first rate.
Anniversary meal, food took too long to arrive. Fillet steak with peppercorn sauce, this was bland and tasteless. Steak was cooked to perfection but not worth £36.
Lovely touch that we got a drink each on the house for our Anniversary
Great food, perfectly cooked, and well served by very pleasant staff who were attentive without being intrusive.
Disappointing! All 4 diners had food that was only lukewarm. Asked for Fillet Steak rare - it was over cooked being slightly pink and pale on top ... therefore had obviously not been seared and then over cooked - not good value for money at £36 ! The pork was probably the least edible ... as it was chewy. We were given 10% off the bill for this .
