We have used the Leith branch on earlier occasions and thought there was more of an ambience. I’m sure I had the same starter ie chicken wings however they were totally different on this occasion. Previously they were huge but this time they were on skewers and I felt they were overpriced. I was underwhelmed with the steak and disappointed with the very small portion of sauce which accompanied it. On a positive note, we could not decide on which red wine to have and the waiter very kindly provided a small taste of three of them which was very much appreciated and helped us make a decision.

Was a pretty basic meal to be honest the steak was nice however looked a bit lonely on the plate asked for a salad and the only salad was tomato and pickle and certainly not worth the £4.00 highly unlikely I would make this a regular visit I much prefer Miller & Carter

Loved the ambience and the surroundings of the restaurant. The menu options were exciting and varied.
The steaks however were disappointing. Mine was not cooked as requested and was replaced however would say that the steaks lacked flavour and were not as tender as would have liked. Such a pity as everything else we had was delicious and as aforementioned the menu choice is superb.

The staff were a credit to this business! We came for Hogmanay and the waitress took time out of her busy shift to give us a list of bars we should attend and local info. We were early for our meal and the staff accommodated us. Food was amazing also, as was the wine!

It was lovely but we were quite squashed in beside a noisy table of swearing men. I felt like they were at our table and part of our conversation not exactly date athmosphere and would have felt awkward asking to be moved.
I’d go back as the food was lovely but the atmosphere not date worthy

Went to chop house for dinner with my fiancée for a night out together for dinner. The place is class. Although petite in size, the food is amazing! The staff were very hepful on discussing what size of steak to get.We got the 900g chateaubriand with 4 sides and it was out of this world. 5 stars without a doubt.

Been here many times and usually good. This time steaks deliverd to table cold and undercooked. Taken away and heated up but still undercooked. Both of us ended up leaving a fair amount of the steaks. No offer to reduce the bill etc. We had to ask for a couple of drinks as a gesture. Looks like they just could not handle the volume of diners. Too much good competition in Edinburgh to drop standards like this.

The food is amazing. We have been several times and it never disappoints. The staff are friendly and helpful but over an hour between placing your order and a main course being served is ridiculous. I appreciate thy are busy but then they shouldn’t have accepted the booking.

Having been to chop house a few times before, I was really disappointed with my meal on Saturday.
The new starters were great, but my partners hot started arrived a lot earlier than my oysters (which were still unshucked by the time my partners starter had arrived). Meaning we had to eat separately so his didn't get cold.

Then the steaks - asked for medium rare, and was definitely rare and actually quite tough to eat. They did give a small discount for this but really I would have expected mine for free as I was unable to eat a lot of it.

Sides - VERY heavy on the salt across all - salad, mac and cheese and even the (late) onion rings were very very salty and hard to eat. Probably should have said somethign at the time.
Its like they use the malden salt and haven't understood that they are big salt crystals and shoudl be used sparingly.

Good cheese and ice cream though, and staff friendly if a bit all over the place.

was just really disappointed and wouldn't come back again.

My partner and I booked this restaurant for our birthday weekend away. Personally my experience was that the atomsphere of the restaurant was good but I wasn’t overwhelmed with the quality of the food at all...we ordered our steak medium and it came rare and almost blue in parts and medium in other parts. The steak alone was £28.00 and came with no sides or sauces. It was incredibly expensive to say that the chef didn’t even know how to cook it!! We did complain to the staff who gave us our drinks free.

Booked for a special birthday - and this was noted in the service we received and the table allocated to us, done quietly but with real thought put in. The food was amazing - the best meal out we’d had in a significant amount of time. The cocktail list was also good and offered something new that was also very more-ish.

Third visit to the restaurant. Had steak on two visits. Both times disappointed with how it was cooked. First time had a medium rare & a medium well. Sent steals back as both cooked the same. Second visit ordered one medium rare. Again over cooked. Disappointing for a specialist steak restaurant. Also everything had way too much salt added. Wont be returning.

Went here a few days ago with my partner and was extremely impressed with the quality of the service and restaurant itself. I had a lovely waitress who was extremely polite and happy to help us. She was very knowledgeable about the differents foods and wines. I arrived around 8pm and was taken upstairs (the bar is downstairs) to a very romantic and cosy room. It smelled wonderful and it was clear everyone there was enjoying themselves. The food arrived about 20 minutes after ordering and was incredible. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection and the wine was perfect as a compliment. It's slightly on the pricier side, but for occasions/dates and such it is a perfect place to attend. Would 110% recommend. I will be returning whenever I'm in Edinburgh.

I would have happily given 5 stars but the dessert menu was lacking variety for gluten free options - it's so easy to make a G/F brownie and that would have made the meal perfect.

The service was stands out for me. Such attentive staff!
The food was good, although my steak was well done (which is sacrilege for me) but they replaced it with a medium rare one and sides without any bother.
We were there on a corkage night so brought our own and only paid a fiver!

Sunday brunch. The Bloody Mary’s took half an hour to come because they’ve got this daft idea of a scale of 1-10 for the spice made to order. When the whole place is having them this is just impossible to pull off. Then the people at next table got a gorgeous looking full English breakfast which we couldn’t have as they were out of some of the items. Really? Sunday breakfast 11 am and they’d run out??? No one asked if we wanted coffees but they were happy to keep pouring us water; took 45 mins to get food. What we had was fine and of good quality but disappointed in not getting the cooked breakfast. Funny this place and its sister in Bruntsfield can both be amazing but then are just rubbish on occasion... It’s a shame they can’t be consistently excellent.
