Chotto Matte Soho

Had a very nice Sushi Set Menu for £22 per head. Plus order some addition Dragon Rolls, I am told the restaurant is normally much busier being in Soho but due to the Corona Virus situation, people are staying away which is such a shame for those working in catering and hospitality. All together an 8 / 10 and will visit again once they re-open after things have calmed down.

I would definitely recommend the brunch. The bottomless cocktails were varied and the food really lovely. It makes a change to the usual brunch in London at the moment! DJ was also a really great touch

Food was fantastic as ever and team were very friendly. It was quiet for a Wednesday probably reflecting current health concerns. I really recommend Chotto Matte and the pudding on the set menu was sublime.

The noise level from the thumping music was extreme; I do *not* appreciate having to *bellow* at people on my table just to have a conversation. Had tinnitus when I got home. The music should be set at a level just enough to keep other tables' conversations at bay, and no louder. It's a restaurant, not a nightclub.
The table was too small for 4 people once the dishes started arriving, and the tables are pushed close together, so you are well aware of other folks packed around you.

So the ambiance suffers greatly from the noise and tiny tables squished close together.

That said, the food was excellent, and the service was very good.

The food was yummy and despite being very busy, the staff were very attentive.
The restaurant had quite a bar vibe on Friday night. It was quite loud and difficult to hear conversations. Another thing was that the kitchen became very smokey and set off the fire alarm. It was nice of the manager to come and apologise to each table however we left stinking of smoke.

Octopus dish was absolutely delicious. Chotto Matte is great.

Very poor service but very good food.
Food was amazing as always, very tasty chicken miso, slow cooked meat, seabass ceviche, tuna. Dragon rolls are not as good as before but they are still better than other competitors (they used to be outstanding, and for some reason they added cucumber without updating the menu).

The service was horrible, super slow. And they forgot to bring things which they finally charged on the bill. Waitress and manager were having an argument all Thursday night and they forgot to serve clients... Delays can happen everywhere , it s ok but waitress was justifying the slowness on the back of business (restaurant was half empty with virus context) while she was arguing with manager. At least she wasn't rude.
It was the first time I thought about not paying 30 pounds optional service but I thought it was unfair to the cook who has done an amazing job again.

The restaurant is great with good music and nice deco, the service wasn’t very good, we needed to ask waiters every time to bring basic things that they should have brought with the food and every time we needed to wait for our turn ...
the prices should be lower a bit ... anyway good experience overall.

Reaaly good ambiance... food is absolutely great. Sea bass ceviche is a perfect start.

We had a table for 4, for a late brunch to celebrate a birthday.  The food was ok, but bit overpriced.  The 2 hours cocktails were value for money, if that is what you are looking for.  The restaurant had a very energetic ambience and nice decor, so could recommend for that,  but it wasn't what we had expected and the music was way to loud for a lunch time session.  I had read reviews about the noise level, but had expected that for the evening and not throughout the lunch time slot.  We were a little disappointed that having called up to confirm this was a birthday lunch and for the birthday plate to be arranged, we still had to request this (twice) before and after the bill being brought to the table - whilst we were not rushed to finish, this did put a damper on things.  Though it seemed like every other table at the restaurant was celebrating something or another, so by the time the plate came around, it felt a bit like we had been waiting in line for something...

Having visited Chotto Matte before, I felt Saturday's brunch was poor. The cocktails weren't good and the food was average at best. Staff were lovely.

A dish was very delayed despite ordering it prior to the restaurant becoming busy. The Black Cod was also very overpriced considering the size. Overall, the interior design seems to have been more of a concern than the quality of the food.

Expected better, portions were small and the pairing of certain japanese and peruvian ingredients did not work well together.

Dimly lit - I found it hard to read the menu or take pics of my food which I look forward to as I blog about my food trips .

A cool place with nice interior, we chose the tasting menu 2, some of the dishes was really good!! But some of them we only tasted and left. The dessert “chefs choice” was a disaster and tasted like something from the supermarket... it’s easy to find better food for a lower price. The drinks was great but our glasses stood empty for really long before the waitress noticed it, they were also hard to make eye-contact with.

Booked table for 6 to celebrate our daughter’s 20th birthday .
Got there and our table was actually in the bar area on very low chairs . It was though we were an add on or they had overbooked .
I complained about the table and was told it would be 10/15 minutes to reseat us.
Then I was told it would be 45 minutes and all the while they are trying to get us to buy expensive drinks .
Our table was booked for 7:45 pm as our whole party had early morning starts the next day.
We were reseated at 8:45pm an hour after our first arrival . And to think they charge customers £20 each if they are 15 minutes late or cancel with in 24 hours. I should have charged them !
We had waited an hour and then they tried sell us yet more drinks when all we wanted to do was eat.
The food once ordered came swiftly but when we were getting to the end of the dishes the service and waiter disappeared - we had a dirty table and wanted to order dessert but seemed to have to wait so long.
The meal with service came to over £315 including service and they failed to recognise we should have been compensated for the disappointing experience plus they tried to charge us for something we did not have .
We got home so late and so exhausted- the only good thing our daughter loved being with her family .
Will I return - no I will not !

Did the tasting menu. Very underwhelmed. The pork belly wasn’t seasoned at all and was neither crispy nor succulent. Just flabby and cold.

Lovely lunch! Excellent food and wine. The service was amazing. We were there having lunch for a long time. The team provided amazing service and never made us feel pressed to leave. Will definitely return!

Fantastic food and menu, we decided to get 8 dishes between us and they brought them out gradually and in the perfect order. Barbecue section was our favourite as were the sushi rolls. Tables fairly close together but buzzy atmosphere with live DJ. Will definitely
come back. Only thing was there was no seating in the bar downstairs for drinks so we had to stand the whole time.

Thank you for the food, which was great. The concept is also really fun and the dancers added value to the experience. We may have been better off coming at night for the experience to have been a good fit... for brunch we were intending to chat but the music was so loud that in the end we were looking forward to leaving so that we could hear each other. Whilst the front of house and waiting staff were polite/attentive enough I think this is where the venue really lets itself down, considering that it seems high end and a 13.5% service charge is included in the bill. The food came at wildly different times and at one point starter plates were being cleared away as some were taking a last bite off them. There was a sense of urgency due to the chaos and it felt like we were being rushed due to the time restrictions on the booking, which wasn't our fault. Perhaps if food comes at very different times and this is usual, it could be explained in the waiter's intro? The food was also given to the wrong person every time, which felt unusual and was particularly obvious at Chotto Matte when our vegetarian guest had pork belly put in front of them! The occasion ended with one guest being handed all the bags and coats from the cloakroom in a big pile. Just generally it all felt a bit allover the place and like the staff were very new to hospitality. The food good and venue is cool though - perhaps it was just an off day.

My friend and I went on a Friday evening, having been drawn in by the menu and were not disappointed. I had the octopus, the seabass ceviche and cassava wedges, all of which were delicious. The decor matches the unusual menu and our server was extremely friendly and attentive without making us feel like we were being watched. Would definitely recommend!

Great sashimi and nigiri

Very good restaurant with spot on cocktails, especially "aged old-fashioned" (unfortunately had only availability to have 2 of them and then became sold out), absolutely astonishing flavours of food and amazing mixture of tastes! On the other hand not amazing sitting on the ground floor with very low tables and chairs and music a bit too loud to be able enjoying a conversation with my guest.. overall worth visiting and trying their cuisine!
