Great afternoon with excellent food and service such a lovely place to dine
Would have helped if when we booked the table we were told it wasn’t open .turned up and closed
We really enjoyed our visit to City Bistro Sunderland. Service was a bit slow but as the students are training that is to be expected.
Lovely menu, good food, attentive staff, great atmosphere.
Looking forward to visiting again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal recently. There was a good choice on the menu
and we were very satisfied with the choices we made. It was a pity that only two tables
were occupied on a friday evening and I hope more people will visit the Bistro and find
out how enjoyable it is.
We came to celebrate our anniversary and were not let down. Service and food both very high standard. Was a relaxed atmosphere and didn't feel rushed. Received a complementary glass of fizz for our anniversary very nice touch. Will definitely return and also recommend to friends and family.
We had booked the special beef and beer night to celebrate my birthday. The food was fantastic and the range of beers matched the food very well. The custard tart was amazing as a finale to a great meal. Superb value for money
The service is good - not polished (they are learning) but willing, helpful and friendly.
The food is better than the average restaurant - thoughtful menu with unfamiliar combinations served attractively and tasting good. More adventurous than usual (as you might expect from a catering college) and it brings it off.
I thought it risky to offer battered fish (such an everyday dish) until I tasted it - the batter was extraordinary and the fish right.
What did surprise me was that there were only 3 tables occupied at 7pm on a Thursday - I would have thought that it would be booked out - especially at the prices charged (low side of average). Oh Well, such is Sunderland, and I shall go back regularly.
We had the 10 course tasting menu with wine pairing and were not disappointed. The value for money is unbelievable being the cheapest tasting menu and wine pairing ive ever come across. We were seated in the kitchen which was a great touch!! Great to chat with the chef and see the students at work. Can't recommend enough and will definitely be back!!!!
A thoroughly enjoyable lunch. It was a huge surprise to expect that level of cuisine at that price.
I had read peoples previous reviews and was a little skeptical but actually they were true to their word. I will definitely go back.
Excellent service and very tasty well presented food. Very good value for money
Outstanding food. Hopefully the message will get out soon so it gets busier. We'll be back.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal but don't get why we were asked if it was a special occasion if it's not acknowledged in anyway by the restaurant.
We had booked for our wedding anniversary.
Would also have been nice to be offered a glass of water as water glasses were on tables.
A beautiful room; extremely clean tableware, cutlery, glasses etc. (bathrooms too); comfortable furniture; good service and good quality food creatively and delightfully presented.
(My only negative criticism would be that the grilled mackerel portion was rather on the small side. ) Overall, portions are not large but adequate.
Excellent food, easy to hold a conversation without struggling to hear, staff attentive. This is my second visit, looking forward to going back.
Best in Sunderland. Five star service and food that has the 'wow factor'.
If I had to be critical they could make the dining area a bit more interesting/unique but still a perfectly nice environment to eat in, great for any occasion.
THIS CAME AS A PLEASANT SURPRISE AS WE DIDNT KNOW IT EXISTED. THE FOOD WAS VERY TASTY AND WELL PRESENTED AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF IT. THE SELECTION OF FOOD OFFERED ISNT VAST BUT THERE IS ENOUGH TO PLEASE ALL TASTES . I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE CHEESE BOARD. THE FRONT OF HOUSE STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL AND HAD A VERY GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR ESTABLISHMENT AND ITS FOOD. WE WILL DEFINATELY BE RETURNING
Attended with a group of friends during Sunderland Restaurant week for an early dinner. Great food and service. Will definitely be returning in the future.
Food was very tasty. Foodie portions, fine dining. Overall good.
Felt like I was in a high end hotel.
Chefs came out to speak to us and showed my son around the kitchen which was a lovely touch.
Food tasted very good on the pre-theatre/lunch menu although the non carb veg was absolute minimal in the main course which made the portion size smaller than expected.
We were not offered water. We shouldn't have to ask for it.
Asking for cocktails at the start caused a bit of chaos. The starters arrived first, before the cocktails or wine so we held off eating and reminded them of the cocktails and wine. The cocktails then arrived which we drank a tad quicker than usual in order to continue eating and drink the wine with the starter. There was also confusion over the wine. No New Zealand sauvignon blanc left in stock, then there was, but it was a three quarter of a bottle, then it was less than that because someone had reserved two glass for later on! For an easier life we ordered the Chilean sav blanc which it turned out to be a pleasant enough alternative.
There was no toilet paper in one of the ladies toilets.
I was expecting a feedback form with the bill but there wasn't one. If the college is going to compete with local restaurants they need to up their game on service and make it the 'go to' place to impress friends and family. At the moment it isn't or at least wasn't on that particular Friday evening.
First time here but won't be the last. Excellent food and lovely staff. Wine was delicious too. Bringing a much needed touch of class to the city.
Went here for the Valentines menu and it was fabulous. The front of house staff were very attentive and the food was amazing. Had canapes and prosecco to start which was wonderful then a Chicken and black pudding terrine for starters, Cod with a clam sauce that was fantastic. Then passion fruit tart with coconut ice cream, mango salsa and a lime macaroon! Divine!
Met up with friends for lunch, excellent food, good atmosphere, good service, plan to go back soon.
A lovely find! Good service, delicious food and reasonable price. The pastry on the blue cheese tart was the best I have had - buttery, short, rich and delicious.
Visited on what proved to be a very quiet Monday lunch time. We were the only party there, but this did not spoil our enjoyment. The restaurant is modern & attractive & the food & service were excellent. Thi# is fine dining at a very reasonable price. We will certainly return.
Good food in a light, clean and airy restaurant. Central for acces by local transport. Good service by helpful staff.
Second visit to this restaurant! Food was fantastic again. It was busier this time than the first time but it didn't detract from our enjoyment.
The venue was very pleasant, clean and welcoming. The staff and service were excellent and the food very tasty. However, the portions were very small (smaller than last year) and I thought it was poor value for money. I probably wouldn't book up next year because of this.
Restaurant quiet at the time of our visit, comfortable seating and good choice on the menu. Friendly and informative staff. Very enjoyable experience and will definitely have a return visit.
Lovely Contemporary interior, affordable dining with amazing tasting food creatively presented & excellent service. A real gem!
I've been to the bistro with family and friends 3 times in the last 6weeks and I'm hooked! Trying to get other friends to try it as I'm confident they will be back time and time again like me! It's a lovely treat without a big bill...only thing to add the lighting could be turned down to help with the ambience but that's about all I can suggest to improve the experience
An undiscovered gem in the heart of Sunderland. Beautifully presented and delicious food with top quality service. Don't be put off that it's located in the campus, it's a restaurant experience you'll want to repeat!
This is a great restaurant. The food was of a very high standard. Great service and very reasonably priced.
The food served at City Bistro is incredible - top quality and at an incredible price. Four people each enjoyed two courses and drinks and the bill was a little over £40.
The service was good, although there was definite improvement when served by the senior member of front of house staff, whose knowledge and recognition of a pregnant woman in our party (there was a curd on one course he recommended be removed) was very good.
A little gem of a place. All the staff were very attentive and the food was amazing, such good value for money. The menu is seasonal so it would be lovely if they varied it weekly or fortnightly to keep the customers going back. Overall we all loved it and will return.
Once again, the most delicious dinner and fantastic service. I can highly recommend this restaurant. It was busier than the last time we visited so hopefully people are beginning to take notice. Faultless food and service.
Lovely attentive staff who served up delicious food in a friendly atmosphere.
Considering it is a training restaurant the level of professionalism is very good
This place is wasted on Sunderland...it is superb, and cant be faulted.
Food is ALWAYS fantastic, and value for money is second to none...
TRY IT...you will not be disappointed...
However, if you eat burgers all the time from chain pubs then keep away...your pallet is not ready for the likes of this - :-)
Went for the fish night. Food was brilliantly cooked and presented. Couldn't fault it and will certainly return.
Enjoyed our meal which was organised as a birthday lunch. Nicely decorated and relaxed atmosphere.
