This is my 2nd visit to Clipstone. The unique food pairings and service are exceptional. The only thing to be aware of is the noise level. The dining floor has been very loud on both evening visits - but not enough of a reason to put off visting.
Quality food and service in relaxed environment. Worth a trip;)
Terrific food, excellent service and wine and for a reasonable price
Our second visit but the food wasn’t half as good. . The beef tartare was a bit chewy , although the tempura mussels were nice .
The hoggett was very tough and tasteless .
We Lloyd the idea of a limited menu but the dishes have all got to be great .
Generally the food lacked a bit of flavour . Shame as we thought we were going to have a new addition to our favourite restaurant list .
Amazing food!!!! The only down side is the place doesn’t have wifi so if you are a tourist who needs wifi you won’t get it!!!!
Outstanding Modern European cooking in a vibrant atmosphere, helped by the open kitchen and knowledgeable staff. Hidden in the quieter streets of Fitrovia, we felt it was actually stronger than its sister restaurant, Portland, around the corner, which is also superb.
At last i made it to Clipstone and it didn't disappoint. Great lunchtime menu and interesting wines on tap - yes on tap! Worth the visit for sure.
My culinary experience at Clipstone was excellent. Very professional services, delicious and well presented food: a delight for both the palate and the eye. My lunch experience was super good (it was my B-day too and could not have picked up a better place for a memorable meal).
Portions were small. Flavour combinations did not meet out expectations. OK overall but had higher expectations.
Nice relaxed ambience.
Interesting meal as usual at Clipstone. so much attention paid to each dish and beautifully presented. Wine not cheap though.
Excellent interesting innovative food as per previous visits. Service very good. Only critisism is that they seem to have put in more tables (due no doubt to success) but our table was literally 150cm from the adjoining table and the lady at the next table had a very loud voice.....we had to shout to be heard.
Went impromptu as had been their only once before shortly after it opened. Was very good food and nice atmosphere. Portions quite small but quality excellent. Very swift service and nice to have a good selection of wines in 1/2 bottle carafes.
Mixed feelings about Clipstone! Warm, attentive service, a lovely space (away from weekend crowds) and clearly some skilled cookery; the risotto and trout starters were perfect, but we didn't hugely enjoy what we ordered for main.
The pork belly, burnt aubergine and boiled radishes felt confusing on the palette, the pork a little dry and overall lacklustre in comparison to the starters - I couldn't finish it. The dauphine potato side was underwhelming too; small and tasting a bit like old oil. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong thing!
Great food and service, worth going across town for. A little neighbourhood gem.
Great food , buzzy atmosphere . It’s not a place to linger as the window seat stools are hard .
This is a wonderful restaurant , interesting delicious food created and served by people who care. Highly recommend
Simply sublime. There were so many items we could have chosen from the menu. The execution was perfect. Price, for what it was, was well worth it.
The food at Clipstone was excellent and the service friendly and welcoming. My only quibble is that the waiter was quite an aggressive upseller, asking us several times if he wanted to order anything else and even delivering bread to your table after I said we didn't need any when he asked
One of the best meals I have had in London for a very long time. Everything from the delightfully warm sourdough with lemon olive oil and house-made pickles through duck rillettes, mackerel with fermented mushroom sauce to cod with hazelnut miso was so mouthwateringly unusual that I could have licked the plates!
We enjoyed our dinner for four and were impressed with the attention to our dietary requirements. Good, efficient and gracious service despite the rustic environment. Quite noisy as restaurant small and busy!
Perfectly seasoned, exciting and delicious food, attentive and knowledgeable staff, highly recommend!
Vibrant, modern, beautiful food. Visually stunning. Fantastic service and fab ambience. Smart yet laid back vibe. Faultless.
Food was outstanding, nice cocktails, very friendly staff. Service was quick but no pressure to leave when meal finished. Will definitely return
Extremely noisy so we could not hear our friends speak. Restarant was full and the last thing we needed was music. Portions were very small and expensive but of good quality. Wine was a total rip=off. £50 for an unlabelled and slightly oxidised bottle. We don't expect ever to revisit
Good set menu at lunch, not cheap but I'm not used to London prices. Staff friendly and attentive. Recommended.
We are lucky in that we live in Marylebone/Fitzrovia and Clipstone is one of our regulars. It truly is outstanding. Highly creative cooking. A beautifully crafted wine menu. And a lovely ambience. Highly recommended
I arrived not feeling well and staff were kind and very understanding
We greatly enjoyed our meal with its unusual and tasty ingredients and excellent service. Echoes of the wonderful Portland. Strongly recommended.
Food was good and liked the decor; however, we were kicked out by the staff (bringing the bill that we did not request together with coffee and the card machine 5 min later that again we had not requested) despite the fact that there were many empty tables and no one waiting to be seated. This was 1h50min after the start time of our reservation. Not a great experience, but food is good and creative.
The food was faultless and the restaurant it’s self is laid back and nicely put together. My only criticism is that we felt rushed by the front of house staff. I was told on three occasions that we only had the table for a hour and a half and this ruined the evening slightly. It was a Saturday evening and my friend and I was hoping to kick back and have a three course meal and some drinks but we stopped at starters and main and went onto have dessert and drinks elsewhere. It’s a shame I’m having to write this review as I was hoping for a 10/10 experience at clipstone just like I had at the Portland.
Credit to the chefs. The food was creative and beautifuly cooked.
On a quiet street in Fitzrovia with a view over the BT Tower, this restaurant obviously loves what it does and produces good food. I went for lunch, which is based on the French formule déjeuner. In fact the restaurant is reminiscent of a Parisian restaurant with polite efficient service, table placed in close proximity and good well prepared food. Two courses for £22 and three for £26. Good coffee too. Friendly service and filling well cooked meal.
Utterly delicious food at a reasonable price. Friendly service, slightly clinical interior, but a great place for lunch, with two courses at £22. I'll go back.
Delicious food and very quick service
Dreadfully uncomfortable seating. Prices too high for the 'neighbourhood restaurant' it claims to be. So, while food is good, it's no Hereford Road, for example.
Absolutely loved it... a gem in London! 💎
Interesting, delicious and healthy
We went with the very good value ‘leave it to us’ taster menu of eight courses. We agreed stars of the show were the dessert dishes. The staff were very attentive and offered good descriptions of each dish upon serving. There are veggie options on the menu but you’d probably struggle with vegan. The ambiance was nice, the cocktails were OK. On the whole pleasant and tasty food.
Outstanding food with excellent service. A delight.
A poor experience overall.
We opted for the £50 feasting menu. This seemed to involve the kitchen jamming food on the table as fast as possible, tapas style, but at a tasting menu price.
We had visited the restaurant on strong recommendations of the quality of food. But this Christmas they seem to be maximising revenue at the expense of reputation. Less than half of dishes had any interest and we had to ask the waiting staff to slow down the arrival of dishes so they did not get cold. This request was received with apparent shock and no real understanding.
We asked the team to select wines, yet despite the dining room being almost empty they did not explain every wine, and our glasses got empty every time before they came to bring a new wine.
We had looked forward for months to visit Clipstone. It was a crushing disappointing that has jumped the shark. We will not return.
