lovely setting and while we were there on a miserable October day we still had great views, staff friendly and service great, Sunday roast was very nice
We were shown to a table in a tiny, stuffy room packed full of guests, and I instantly requested a different table, which we only got by being willing to walk away. I know the new rules are hard to follow, but still..We were told that it would mess up the plan for other bookings so I offered that we’d be quick - still had to wave and call over the reluctant staff to just get a menu. Once the food got there, it was good - fresh and plentiful. But the mood wasn’t great and we could hear the staff arguing. So all in all a gorgeous spot, a wonderful view and good food - spoilt by mediocre management and sullen staff.
Had a lovely meal here on Saturday evening with my grandparents! The staff was lovely and the food was yummy!
Coastguard was a perfect place for my family with teenagers. Good food and friendly staff.
Well done on the Coastguards Covid security measures.
This was our second recent visit for lunch. Much quieter than before as it was a Friday. The high standards of safety and care of all staff members impressed us greatly. Felt very comfortable eating inside and we were served by a very friendly member of staff who made us very welcomed. Enjoyed a simple one course lunch with drinks at a reasonable price. Thanks to all.
As usual food was wonderful. Home made onion rings huge and the best ever. Great value.
There was a mixture of different people booked and not outside the restaurant. The staff handled them well even though some were rude.
I have a terminal health problem and can be slow but the staff were helpful over seating and patient with the ordering and time taken over meal. We didn’t feel pushed.
Food was lovely- we stuck to the roast and we all had a traditional pudding.....
I haven’t been to the coastguard since I was a child and we will definately be back. Thank you for your hospitality....
Only issue if I had to be picky was severe lack of parking.....disability?
Great service as always at the Coastguard. Food to good value.
Friendly and great atmosphere. Food was excellent. We will return, recommended.
The Coastguard is cosy and atmospheric with fantastic views of the English Channel. Food is great and service is excellent. They are very well organised and prepared against Covid - allowing you to relax and enjoy your time there.
Great place in a lovely location. Staff were busy but made time to ensure it was a nice experience as well as doing all the Covid stuff. Food very good.
Lovely food, well presented and good value, although my dessert was missing its sauce due to chef not having time to make it!
We were so impressed with the service. We were taken to one seat which was nice enough and my other half asked which seat id like to sit in to see the veiw. Instantly the lovely gent who was seating us took us upstairs to a table with panoramic views out to sea. So happy #treatedlikeroyalty
Expensive Sunday dinner, lack of veg, I was a bit disappointed, felt hungry when I got home
A special location on a sunny Sunday!
Delicious food, especially the sea bream. Good service. Busy, but a nice ambiance. Thank you!
Pub on the shore at St Margaret's Bay, French phone signal, short but comprehensive menu, well-cooked food with Shepherd Neame seasonal ale, Late Red, what's not to like? Service was attentive, especially wrt Covid precautions, and the welcome was warm and friendly.
Spectacular setting, great service, dog friendly and above average food
Great food, good views, Covid secure. Waitresses interrupted meal 6 times to ask “is everything ok with your meal”...Not a good thing!
Pork Belly we had was excellently melting in mouth with a pair of chopstick shape of pork crackling which was also perfect. Service was also friendly and provided with kindness. The both Chocolate pudding and Panna cotta were really great, but I must say Panna cotta was a winner, sorry chocolate pudding! The sea view from the window was beautiful and it was like being on holiday in October. Thank you.
We used to eat here some years ago but it went downhill when it changed hands from being family run. We often drive from Maidstone to eat at 18 Beach Street in Deal and were delighted to learn that the owners of 81 Beach Street had taken over The Coastguards - and we were not dissapointed!!! We had requested a window table as the views over the channel are so good. We were met by the Assistant Manager Ben who along with all the staff was brilliant ! All of them were happy, polite, efficient and attentive and nothing too much trouble. As we had requestaed we had a great table in the small upstairs room. The restaurant was spotleesly clean with careful social distancing and plenty of opportunities to hand sanitise. The menu was, as expected limited compared with 81 Beach Street but under the current situation we had expected that. However, all that we had was beautifully presented, well cooked, full of flavour and like 81 Beach Street exceptional value for money. To sum up worth the 90 mile round trip and we will be back !!!!
My son and I visited here last year when we were on holiday nearby, the return visit speaks for itself!
Given the climate of COVID restrictions, they have a very well organised set-up and I felt very safe being there. The service was perfect, there when you wanted it and not when you do not need it. Food was lovely! make sure you save room for pudding, although the starter was great, and so was main course . . .Ummmm.
The views across the channel to France were amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Limited menu but very friendly and helpful service
Well organized and good food . Nice seating outside with great views
Excellent food, friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely return.
Came with my family one of the best meals I've ever had without a doubt will recommend it reasonable priced drinks and food 100% value for money
We enjoyed our visit. The food was excellent and the staff charming and helpful.
Such a great location you can't go wrong. The service was friendly and efficient and the fish and chips as good as ever.
Friendly pub in lovely setting.
Food good and plenty of it on main course.
We were seated upstairs- felt it needed a bit of a refurb but could be they have plans Covid situation permitting.
Down stairs cosy and friendly.
Staff attentive and chatty.
Local to us so will definitely visit again
Wonderful village pub that still absolutely has the mojo!
Amazing place right on the sea, nice breakfast including the one for vegetarians, very friendly staff and Covid safe.
We were really well looked after by friendly staff. Good portion sizes. Unfortunately there were no chunky chips which were advertised with the cod in the menu. We didn't mind having skinny fries but they were overcooked and extremely crunchy which was disappointing. The batter on the fish was also a bit too salty, but the cod itself tasted very fresh and was cooked beautifully. The ambience was nice but the music was a little too loud so my husband and I couldn't always hear each other speak unless we spoke loudly over the music and raucous table next to us. However, overall it was a pleasant evening.
Very friendly welcome and clear instructions on dining under the present circumstances. We were seated upstairs with a nice sea view. Basic dining and did have to wait a while until drinks were served but food followed shortly afterwards. We enjoyed our visit.
The food was really nice, high standard pub/restaurant type menu. Service was friendly and helpful.
I think we were a tad unfortunate with our table situation as we were right next to the ladies toilet and the till, so we were always in the centre of all activity, which meant that it wasn't the most relaxing experience and could get a bit noisy. We did get the last available lunch time booking so I would book early in future.
Otherwise I can't fault the restaurant in general, the staff or the food. I would definitely recommend and visit again.
The coastguard is a pub and restaurant but the food is superior to most pub offerings. Each dish adds something slightly out of the ordinary to a traditional dish which makes it a nice surprise.
What a great review. Thank you. The kitchen team will love this!
A very good experience and Covid secure. A good selection of food and our choices were tasty and well presented. We look forward to a return visit.
Thank you. We look forward to seeing you again!
Good friendly service, not intrusive, food good quality.
Thank you for the review and recommendation!
Well organised reception, willing and pleasant staff. Great views across the Straights of Dover!
We were on holiday in St Margaret's and booked a table at the Coastguard for dinner. We were met by a very pleasant member of staff who showed us to our table and introduced our waitress, who was very bubbly and friendly. My husband had the steak and ale pie, which was a special of the day, he said the pastry was exceptional, and it looked amazing. I had the curry chicken Kiev, which I was a bit dubious about, but there was no need, it was also amazing, thoroughly enjoyed it. We finished off with a white chocolate cheesecake with home made ice cream, OMG, fabulous.
Cannot recommend The Coastguard enough, it was all social distanced and very professional in a friendly way.
