Music very good...Just a little too loud for me.
Crackling very nice - just way too spicy. Felt ill on the Sunday.
Steak was overcooked, so became dry.
Chicken was overcooked so was very chewy.
Parsnips were undercooked so was still hard.
After this I decided again having a dessert and left.
£4 for a bottle of table water? That's just disgraceful.
Overall wasn't impressed. Just disappointed.
A very pleasant experience from start to finish. Welcomed at the bar with generous drinks offer. Choice of tables to sit at so chose one near radiator as it was a cold evening out. The roast beef (Sunday evening) was beautifully cooked, tendor and succulent - an excellent meal.
We had booked table for 7.30. There were no staff to greet us when we arrived, there was only one other diner. Head Waiter meet us as we were returning to reception and escorted us to our table. The food and drinks were good but service left a lot to be desired. The ambiance was awful, far too bright lighting, music far too noisy and the whole restaurant lacked a good vibe.
Excellent food and a wide choice. If you are staying in the hotel then it is worth staying in and using the restaurant on site. Not cheap but very good quality.
The service was good and with friendly staff. The food was excellent, the only disappointment was that we missed the new menu which came out the day we were leaving. However we were very happy with the selections we made from the old menu.
Beautiful restaurant with many covers (it@s a hotel). Original European menu. My start and main was well-presented and delicious. I shared a cheeseboard and there was plenty of it.
The food was very good indeed, the service was also very good, would recommend the octopus for the starter, and the Hake for the main.
Amazing place to dine.. The food and service was Excellent.. Would recommend to anyone to eat there !!
The food was delicious. Waiters all very friendly and apologetic for the slow service as they were extremely busy. I feel that more waiting staff are needed as the existing staff are run off their feet.
We chose to dine at the Connaught Brasserie as we were staying at the hotel. We booked a table for 7pm and were eating our main course by 7.30pm. The food quality was excellent and the choice was good. As the restaurant filled up we were getting the vibes that diners were waiting much longer for their meals. We had a main meal and a dessert and were in the restaurant for two hours. The second two nights we also dined at 7pm and the service was much quicker. Again the food quality was excellent. We would visit the restaurant again if we were in Bournemouth.
Very much enjoyed the new dining arrangement. Lovely decor.
A good menu, plenty of choice with a ‘special’ most days. The food was really delicious and hot ( important to us). Proper restaurant food with lovely vegetables.
The staff were superb, attending to your every need. Well done!
We wish we lived nearer - we could eat there on a regular basis!
It was overall an amazing experience!
Friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere and when our food eventually arrived it was delicious, however it took more than 15 minutes to get our first drink and nearly 45 minutes to get our starters. The staff were apologetic but it did spoil the evening a little. I also said in advance it was for a special birthday and if they could do anything to make it special I would appreciate it, but there was no mention of it while we were there.
My steak was medium rare not medium as ordered. My wife had pork belly which was very poor value. The second night food was a big improvement. Tables are set too close together without any reason as the dining room was 90% empty on both nights.
Lovely restaurant, good food and service, Just a pity that is was empty of people.
Schlechter Service, passables Essen
Generally we were happy with the quality of the meal and service and would consider returning shortly. A few areas for improvement. (1) At the start of our visit, the fire alarm went off. However there was no communication from the staff as to where to congregate or when we should return (2) the food was good but the main courses are not overly large.
Quiet and relaxed feel with a live musician playing in the lobby, which avoided the shouting over the music scenario. There was a choice of seating indoors or on a garden patio in the sun, unfortunately there were no shades in the garden so we chose indoors. A varied menu to suit all tastes and diets. The desserts were amazing, a whipped chocolate cheesecake turned out to be two portions of whipped chocolate mouse on a bed of crumbed Hob Nob biscuit, surrounded with strawberries, blueberries and raspberry syrup and decorated with a slice of pink strawberry chocolate. delicious!! The service was not brilliant as there were several trainees getting themselves in a pickle and forgetting who had done what, but it actually added to the enjoyment of the evening as part of the entertainment, and we were in no hurry. Bit on the pricey side compared to similar restaurants used but well worth it.
We took my mum out for a mid week meal and what a very pleasant evening it was. The staff were friendly, engaging and helpful, the food was tasty and well presented, the bill wasn't horrendous and the venue is very comfortable and large. We will go again.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening celebrating our anniversary with good food and experienced efficient staff
This is a lovely venue for a meal which is of high standard and cuisine. Well presented and delivered. The staff were very good. As a couple we prefer plainer food but recognised the value of the presentation and menu choices. We would recommend the Brasserie to others with the proviso that they need to take account of cost and that there were no basic choices.
Nice lunch with family in a beautiful setting.
Great newly renovated dining room. Food delicious. Service a bit slow.
Excellent find great food and service and the musical due were a Bruce Bonus
Not sure why it has taken us so long to find this little gem we will be back for sure
Great food and service, definitely restaurant rather than hotel quality. So often hotel menus flatter to deceive, not this one, excellent produce very well cooked and presented.
Disappointed in the food. The pate was very normal, my starter was too vinegary and made me cough. My husbands meal must have been forgettable as he could not remember what he had, my mashed potato was puréed almost to a liquid. So sorry but we were recommended this hotel and this restaurant in particular, so we were expecting rather better food. However the creme brûlée was indeed good. I do have to say that your waitresses are exceptional, very very pleasant and trained well, it was a pleasure to be served by them! They deserve every penny that they are paid full marks for that!
Breakfast was excellent, the best.
I have eaten regularly at Blakes over the last eight years when staying at the Connaught Hotel. I have always found the food standards to be very high and the service outstanding.
Recent visit was a great experience. Had pre booked so it was a simple hello and shown to our table. Service was efficient and prompt. The staff were attentive. The food was very good well presented and excellent tasting.
On the whole, this place is definitely worth a visit.
+ Excellent service
+ Food is a good standard
+The cheese trolley
+ Represents good value
Some negatives/areas of opportunity include (personal preferences here):
- I want the top of my pork belly to be crispy with crackling, not fatty & soft
- Ambience is a bit stuffy & old (lots of chandeliers and fancy wallpaper) - I'd prefer to see it more relaxed and inviting
It was our friends 70th birthday, there were six of us and we all agreed that it was an excellent meal and very good service, the lit candle with chocolates on a plate from the staff wishing our friend a happy birthday day just finished of what was an excellent evening. Thank you Blake’s.
Enjoyed a delicious meal - service was good and lovely birthday surprise at the end - felt room was lacking in atmosphere - wrong type of music playing
A lovely romantic evening to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. Waitresses were very attentive to our every need. Food was absolutely amazing and tasty. Compliments to the chef. Enjoyed the surprise at the end of our meal...a plate of homemade sweets. Yummy!!! Thank you.
Excellent meal first class service. Not much more I need to add. Well done Blakes.
We visit Blakes at least twice a year always such a pleasure , the restuarant is housed in the Counaught hotel Bournmouth & is well worth an overnight stay . Breakfast is second to none a lovely experience all round.
I stayed at the hotel and booked a meal at Blake's for my sister's 50th they went out of there way and made it a special evening for us both . I took my own cake and they presented it on a beautiful tray with happy birthday and strawberry and even gave us plates and cutlery and cut it for us.
Would highly recommend the food . My sister had a lovely time. Thank you
The food was good, but there was no atmosphere, so I wouldn't come back. Quite old fashioned and with a very poor selection of drinks.
Blakes of Bournemouth is a friendly restaurant with perfectly cooked and well-presented food. The servers make diners feel welcome and always have a smile for us. I didn’t like the background music as I don’t think jazz is conducive to a relaxed meal but luckily it wasn’t too loud so wasn’t overly intrusive but it’s something the management might like to think about for the future. Otherwise, a good evening and an enjoyable meal.
Tasty food, well presented, friendly staff and good wine list - what more could we have asked for.
Very disappointed. Clearly the restaurant could not cope with a Xmas function and looking after their booked residents.
Long waits for food. Food was cold on arrival . Expensive bill for what was under average food.
