CORE by Clare Smyth Ratings and Reviews
Simply OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!! Easily one of London's FINEST and BEST restaurants today!
Clare has continued from her days at GRHR with grace and elegance. Her team is just well versed in everything they prepare! My colleague & I ordered way more than the large tasting menu because everything was just amazing. Impeccable service to every detail. Extraordinary wine list for any oenophile. Yet, not stuffy for high-end fine dining. The short-rib/venison/potato/Dorset crab were four items that truly stood out. Just outstanding. You will not be disappointed in any aspect.
There is a strong connection with the Alma Mater at Ramsey's Hospital Road through some of the people here. But this feels a lot different, more contemporary, more relaxed and fresh. The food is wonderful and there is a tremendous effort on the visual. For example starters are presented on small platters constructed of flowers, and other natural materials. There is also a clear glass window into the kitchen area.
The staff were helpful, attentive and happy to discuss questions and take on board the subsequent superlatives! Fine Dining doesn't come any better. Congratulations to everyone involved.
When I heard Clare was going to open her own restaurant, I had to go and try it out. I have not been disappointed. Of course the restaurant has no star yet, it just opened, but I would bet a large sum it will reach 2 stars in no time.
We tried the full tasting menu with accompanying wine. A very nice selection, definitely on a par with the regular 2 stars of London. We actually left the table feeling fine which means 2 things: the overall amount of food is perfect (some tasting menus overdo it and you end up unable to finish the last course.). Wine was a good match at a reasonable price. We even had a top up on several occasion, but again, it is not too much wine that you can't walk out of the restaurant...
Seeing the chef active in the kitchen through the glass panel is a plus. And it is made even more special when upon leaving we were invited to go salute Clare, shake her hands and have a few words.
Among interesting dishes, the fish was amazing; I could have the scallop starter a dozen time over! And the way the vegetable takes precedence with meat (lamb) becoming the accompaniment is ingenious. And the way cheese is handled as course on its own is just brilliant.
Only improvement to suggest: the team should think about a way of ending the meal. We felt a little bit left alone as nothing was happening after the last course. That calls for a trolley of sweets or something.
Definitely lived up to the reputation to being the first female chef retaining 3 michelin stars
Service was just a touch too attentive, but all out of the correct intentions (I did get shown the way to toilets 3 times by the same person)
Almost flawless food, I was a bit surprised by chef's choice of using a very similar butter sauce for two or maybe 3 dishes, but she's the expert and they went with the imgredients, so no complaints.
I'm sure Core will get ever more recognition in the near future, and it will be interesting to see where they go from here. Looking forward to be a returning customer.
Expectations were high as this was recommended by a real "Foodie" friend. And expectations were met, plus some. Attention to detail in every area resulted in first class service , food, wine. We had the Chefs table which felt like a treat, and the ability to watch the team at work just further enhanced the experience.
perhaps the best meal I have had this year - I can't fault it!! if anything too much food but I can live with that. we are already planning our next visit. the service was impeccable and the people watching especially fabulous. I loved all of the food especially the crab starter and all of the little nibbles were excellent. the restaurant itself has been beautifully renovated - I remember it as the old fashioned Leiths. but now it is a light modern space - all round excellent.
A great evening spent with family..
Very welcoming atmosphere in a warm, modern curated interior, with great background music.
Impeccable service with attention to details. Superb food without exception!
For me the best dishes are the crab, scallop and Bakewell tart..
Can’t wait to go back!
Amazing dinner for my wife’s birthday. We had the full tasting menu and the food was incredible - and it was a treat to see Clare working to prepare it with her team through the window of the open kitchen. Only niggle was that since our table was on the outside of the dining room and there are so many highly attentive waiting staff, they could be a bit distracting buzzing past all the time. Amazing food and awesome service, though - have already recommended to friends.
The food was absolutely stunning! In addition, the service was the most perfect balance between professional and relaxed. Staff are amazing and so dedicated and knowledgeable. We really felt that they had ownership of our experience. Gave experienced many exceptional restaurants but this would be extremely hard to beat. Thank you everyone for an exceptional night. Watch out, Gordon 😁
So much negative press - Faye Maschler and other critics moaning about the venue, along with the location... heavens, it’s not in the East End. Life indeed goes on outside of the hip E1 of the 30yo Sloane Ranger of today.
This restaurant is absolutely superb. Perfect staff, many from Gordon Ramsey’s Royal Hospital Road, make each and all welcome.
One or two dishes were better than others - the jus in a champagne flute along with the chicken was unnecessary and unattractive. But all in all, from the canapés, the bread and butter, the pre-dessert - all stellar. This is three star cuisine in every way. All washed down with a beautiful Santorini white for £65.
East Londoners, open your eyes, there’s life west of Bank.
I was blown away by the food. Words cannot do justice to the experience we had. It is very rare that every single course just elevated the experience but at Core that’s exactly what happens. I cannot wait to get back. I would say this was the best meal I had this trip and I was in London, Barcelona and San Sebastián. If Clare Smyth ever starts a cult I will be it’s first member. She has an incredible team in place. Highly Highly recommended
Fantastic dinner at CORE by Clare Smyth for my husbands birthday. We went straight to the table instead of stopping at the bar but did sample a couple of cocktails from the bar which we enjoyed. We opted for the full tasting menu and certainly didn't regret it. This started with a few small snacks which were all morsels of deliciousness and then on to the full menu. Every plate left the table completely clean! We also enjoyed hearing the story behind each dish we were served. We've tried a few tasting menus that have been a little on the small side but this was perfect as we left comfortably full and very content. Our sommelier was very knowledgeable and the wine he helped us select was great. The decor in the restaurant is modern but relaxed and is a very comfortable room. The staff were very attentive but not overbearing. I definitely recommend this restaurant, one of the best I have been to recently.
Culinary delight! This is not just food but a total pleasure to the senses. Expect the unexpected but ultimately be pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended, and if you require gluten free you might discover that, unlike in most places, at Core it tastes even better.
Having visited Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road (RHR), knew that the cooking would be of a high standard but intrigued as to how Clare’s new venture would compare. The answer, thankfully, is favourably.
The restaurant itself is just right in terms of size, cosy but spacious enough, the tables set apart so you do not overhear conversations (unlike RHR). The bare tables & wooden floors do not cause a problem with noise, just a background hum of contented diners chatting, in our case, in a full restaurant.
The three course menu offering (£65 for lunch) was just right for lunch once one adds the amuse bouche (very imaginatively presented and really delicious), the pre-desert & the petit fours. The food was, without exception, excellent. The Crab Royale starter was an experience – the crab meat in a crab custard was sublime & the separate glass of consommé (which looked like a baby Martini) was flavoursome. I am not normally a pudding person but I have to mention the pain perdu, it was really fabulous– the pastry chef knows his/her stuff!
The front of house staff were really good, unobtrusive but fulfilling your need ten seconds before you realise you had it. It was a pleasure to be attended to by a team that did not suffocate you (yes, this is aimed at you RHR) although I did notice that there are a lot of people relative to the number of diners.
Special mention to the Sommelier who gave us a taster of the London Cru wine made from English grapes from his last opened bottle, delicious-the limited stock had run out.
Had the chance of a chat with Clare (visible with her team throughout service via the glass fronted kitchen). She was quite delightful & clearly passionate about her new venture. I wish her well & am convinced that she will have at least two Michelin stars soon– Core by Clare Smyth really deserves it, we will be back.
3 Course Lunch for two (no coffee), glass of champagne each, bottle of wine (£58) plus service, total £250–good value for money.
The only way to describe CORE by Clare Smyth is .. WOW!!
My wife and I go on occasional fine dining lunch trips to London and thought we would give CORE a whirl. The reviews on Top Table were fantastic so it looked a no-brainer.
We couldn't have been more delighted. The ambiance was busy, buzzy yet calm, the chairs comfortable and the decor lovely. The staff were tremendous - friendly but not in your face, around when needed but never over attentive .. they could not have been better. If all that weren't good enough, the food was amazing. We both had the £65 lunch menu and if there is a better deal anywhere in London, I haven't seen it. The three courses were sublime with four tongue-tingling amuse bouche brought to the table before-hand. A pre-desert treat also added to it all.
CORE has only been going two months and it is testament to Clare Smyth and her staff that the restaurant has reached this standard so quickly.
This was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had - vying with the Ledbury for top spot. If you want London dining at its best I urge you to try CORE. You will not regret it.
