Ambiance is very good but music is a tad too loud. Service is excellent as is the food. Food presentation could be better. Overall it's well worth the dining experience.
The food was excellent but the waiter seemed either new or not well versed about the dishes and unable to suggest accommodations for vegetarians. Would go again!
Great place for a date or any other type of occasion. Food was delicious and well made by the chef. Our server made the night extra special by singing happy birthday to my date with a amazing voice.
If you go, you must let the chef decide your menu. Highly recommend. Simply amazing!
Love the design of the restaurant. Cameron the waiter was so attentive and kind. He sang Happy birthday to us to make our evening special!
Great food, service and location. Not a big menu but the choices are more than sufficient.
Everything was exceptional!
First you can actually hear each other. The room is nice, the noise level is low, the service excellent and the $10 martinis perfect. We liked everything about Core and will go back soon. The food is creative and uses fresh, local ingredients. Thursday nights are half price wines by the bottle and the wine list is good. Our server, Cameron was great. He was friendly, knowledgeable and there when needed. We were not rushed at all. A great evening out with friends.
The 15 min drive from downtown Toronto is totally worth it! In a quaint village of Leslieville, Core is an outstanding new addition to food gastronomy in Toronto. All of the dishes were outstanding, from the fresh oysters (which were $1 per on a Tuesday night) to the Sea Bass which was cooked to perfection with a lovely glazed and crunchy skin to the steak which was tender and juicy. Prices are very reasonable and the service is very friendly and during the nice weather they will open the garage like windows for a nice breeze from the street as you watch the walkers go by. I'll be back!!!
This was our second dining experience at Core. Our first was the end of Summerlicious - which was fantastic. This second visit did not disappoint! We were a bit late for our reservation and when I called to advise of the delay I was told not to worry; no fuss. We enjoyed cocktails and a variety of wines with our appetizers as well as our meal. All meals and drinks were enjoyed and although no one had any room left, the table enjoyed desserts as well. Lovely lingering meal with knowledgable service in a low key but stylish atmosphere. We will be back again.
Loved everything about it. We did five courses of chef’s choice. Every course had delicious, subtle flavours.
Waiters were very obliging
Absolutely fabulous service and food as always, definitely our favourite Leslieville spot to eat. From the starters to the wines everything was perfect.
Had delicious tuna crudo to start with black cod and steelhead all super delicious and cooked to perfection. Great wine list and delighted to find out Thursday is half priced wine night. ! Will be back
Wonderful neighborhood spot. Great, friendly service, deliciouse fresh food and ambience excellent. Only draw back was dirty sidewalk outside.
Otherwise, highly recommend and will be going back.
Creative and well executed cuisine in a great Queen East locale. Seat by the (open) front window is a perfect blend of inside and out.
After meaning to visit for a while, we finally made it to Core. We were there on a Friday night and it was relatively quiet, but felt intimate. The servers were very accommodating, allowing us to switch tables early on so that we could sit by the window, and bringing a second round of the delicious house-made bread and butter. Service was a little slow considering that there weren't many other patrons, but we weren't in a rush so it was alright. Everything we ate and drank was absolutely delicious, full of rich flavours, and well-portioned so that we could even share dessert without feeling too full. It was a pricey night for us, coming to about $180 for three courses (shared dessert) and two drinks each after tax and tip, but it was worth it for a special night. We'll definitely be back!
Server forgot to place one of our orders and all they did was comp our bottle of sparkling water. I ordered their bone in rib eye for dinner (one of the most expensive items on the menu) and got a sirloin with no mention that they didn’t give me the correct cut. Perhaps they rely on consumer ignorance? With that said, the food itself was all very good.
Excellent food in an off-the-beaten path small restaurant. Staff was fantastic, one of us had scallops that were superb, and other took "chef's surprise 3-course meal" that was also outstanding. Half price bottles of wine helped make it wonderful. Would go again.
Exceptional! Brought in a bottle of wine for the free corkage, drank a few cocktails, ate amazing food!
Service was incredible the decor was outstanding and the food was delish.
We got beef tartare, tuna crudo, duck salad and scallops. All were amazing. Loved the crispyness of the duck skin in the salad so so much.
Thank you to the whole team 👊 we will be back!
Food was delicious but our server often seemed confused
Excellent in every area, but truly need ice in the jug/serving water...I’m a Travel Agent , and this basic 101. I did ask, then they brought ice in separate little glass for me only, not my husband. This is not reflective on our Server, he was awesome, the restaurant for ice water !!!!!
Really enjoyed the service, excellent food and fun decor. Staff were knowledgeable and low key and pleasant. We will be back.
Tried the Summerlicious menu. The tuna crudo and duck two ways were divine. Will come back again during a non-summerlicious night.
The food is outstanding...
This restaurant would be incredible if the service matched the quality and execution of the dishes they serve.
Awesome foods and service. We had summericious. It was super!!
We came for Summerlicious and the overall experience was exceptional. We picked Core as the menu was interesting and it was in an area we hadn’t been before.
The food experience will bring us back again and we have already suggested it to several friends. The quality of the service rivaled the food. And we can’t fault the wine.
The ambiance had a cool vibe. Definitely a neighbourhood feet.
Well worth the trip.
The restaurant has delicious food and the service was next level. Attention to detail is what they do very well; the staff were friendly and attentive. Went for Summerlicious and was not disappointed.
Went to CORE for Summerlicious. Very pleased with our experience. Friendly service in a quiet, relaxed setting. Many wine and cocktail options. The price fixe menu was creative and flavorful. The homemade bread and in-house churned butter were especially memorable. The duck and fish options for the main course were not intimidating, very satisfying. I thought the presentation for the fish was a little lacking but didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the dish. The wine our server recommended paired well with both meals. For dessert I suggest trying the panna cotta, very creamy, not too sweet with a crunchy espresso flavored topping. Overall a very nice experience. I would like to go back and try the chefs tasting menu.
Easy to make reservations through OpenTable, as well as modify the times, even down to 15 minutes before reserved time. I think this was mainly due to the fact that the place wasn't full so there were still lots of open slots to change to.
Food was enjoyable but nothing to write home about. We went to try the summerlicious menu. Service was mostly attentive. Housemade sourdough bread was given sparingly; had to ask for a second piece, which they willingly gave, but without topping up the bit of butter that was left on our table. The albacore tuna crudo was swimming in a mix of citrus sauce+oil but otherwise flavourless. The crispy pork belly had dried out and hardened where it was just meat, but the English peas were light, flavourful, and refreshing. The duck was ultra salty, while the trout had good texture and flavours (when eaten with housemade chips and red & yellow peppers with raisins (?) The dessert cheese was delicious while the Haagen-Dazs was too sweet (I don't have a sweet tooth and found it too overwhelming and couldn't finish).
My dinner companion made note that wasn't somewhere they would willingly return to based on our summerlicious dinner.
Loved it. We tried Core for the first time during summerlicious and unlike some spots that skimp on taste, presentation and service during this mass affair, Core really took the opportunity to impress their new guests. Mission accomplished. We’ll be back often!
This was our first visit to Core. The food and service were excellent. The decor is very nice and there is a great bar area where it appears you can also get dinner.
We went for Summerlicious, but I would return here anytime.
Service was amazing, it was really good value for money, both appetizers were better than many 5 star restaurants i have been to.
Great food and excellent service. We were here for Summerlicious and the sky dumped rain on us just before we arrived. The staff were thoughtful, offered us a towel and indicated if the fans were too cool for us, they could relocate them. The food was all delicious with well-balanced flavours. Will return!
Pleasantly surprised nice find in Leslieville
I've eaten at Core once before (the tasting menu) but this was an opportunity to introduce friends to it. Food overall was very good (the panna cotta dessert was amazing), and with it being a Summerlicious offering, prices were excellent.
Core was a great surprise. A friend who lives in Leslieville recommended it as she had dined there twice already. I though the name sounded like a workout studio and I never go to restaurants during Summerlicious because I believe that the restaurants dumb down / cheapen their regular men to satisfy diners who are too cheap to buy dinner in their restaurant at their usual prices.
Core's décor is comfortable and the service was impeccable from start to finish. The Summerlicious menu was great and I could see that everyone in the room was enjoying their food (Friday night, early dinner @ 6:30 pm). The cocktails were fine, the food was creatively prepared and the service was fabulous and unobtrusive (my favourite kind).
Dinner was a little bit expensive as it was out of the downtown core.
I will definitely go back whenever I'm in the neighbourhood. It's a great addition to an area of town that is obviously going up-scale.
Great meal, pleasantly impressed. Wine list reasonable and short menu had enough variety. Bit of a gap before our mains, but other than that it was excellent.
Excellent experience. Great food with staff who know both food and wine and how to deliver them. This is a restaurant worth visiting.
Tasting menu was very flat from begining to end. It might have been better to order a la carte.
Wonderful restaurant. A true 5 star dining experience nestled in the Toronto's east end. Go, enjoy! And get the steak tartar :)
