An amazing experience. Smoked oysters to die for, the sweetest scallops, and an amazing grey mullet tartare were standouts. Lovely friendly staff and it was great to watch the kitchen in action. Definitely a place to return to
This is the 3rd time of visiting and you are constantly blown away with the flavors. I highly recommend!
If you like fish this is a fabulous restaurant. We had seafood cooked in ways I haven't had before, in a good way! Sometimes experimentation doesn't pay off, in this case it definitely worked. The restaurant is small, the service was friendly and attentive. Definitely one of my favourites.
Incredible food and service! Would recommend and visit again!
My second visit to Cornerstone and still impressive. I forgot to confirm one person was veggie and they were SO accommodating; changed the menu for them and still conjured up a fantastic menu for them as well as the original for us. I cannot praise them enough. A gem in the rough of Hackney!
Flawless food with brilliant service and atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
Stunning food and fantastic service.
I went for my birthday and I wasn't disappointed, the food was amazing, the service was excellent and I would highly recommend.
Food is good but lacks balance. Four of six courses came with bread. No vegetables were served.
One of the best meals I’ve had in London. The food was exquisite, we didn’t do the tasting menu but chose a number of dishes from the menu - the staff were really helpful with making recommendations for the dishes and wine. The mackerel pate, cured gurnard, smoked cod roe and plaice were all highlights. Ambiance was great - as so many restaurants have now, there are concrete walls and floors but surprisingly the noise level was okay. Loved being able to see into the kitchen and watch the chefs at work. Only small downside was the scallops - £19 for two scallops, while delicious, seemed rather steep compared to the other dishes and their sizes. Overall it was an excellent night and would highly recommend a visit. Thanks to Tom and the team!
Best meal I’ve had in London and possibly ever. Perfection.
Incredible food, poor service, felt so rushed. Plates came out to quick couldn’t enjoy the evening. It felt like they wanted us out as soon as possible, not relaxing at all.
We had the tasting menu which was superb
The food was outstanding the staff were very friendly and gave advice when needed. Would highly recommend a visit.
Superb dining experience all round. The stripped back yet stylish interior quite rightly puts the food front and center. Went for the tasting menu, which did not disappoint, each dish a total joy whilst the wine list was excellent. Staff were also fab, getting the balance just right between being present and gratefully inconspicuous. We will be back.
We went for lunch to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. The food and service was excellent. Perfectly casual whilst feeling like a special occasion too.
Great seafood. Excellent service. Fantastic casual fine dining.
Forgot to let the restaurant know my partner was vegetarian. Staff were super accommodating (Aussie waiter whose name we didn’t catch unfortunately was fantastic!) and chef Tom Brown made us three absolutely brilliant veggie plates to go along with what I ordered. Honestly could not say enough great things about our evening! Can’t wait to go back.
The food did not disappoint it was fantastic! especially the crab crumpet, plaice in roast chicken butter sauce and the mackerel pate with the treacle bread. We had the tasting menu and the portions were more than enough we were all happily full at the end of the meal. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.
An amazing food experience.
The service was excellent.
We will definitely be returning
Impeccable food and service as per usual. Feel the price / quality ratio has dipped slightly, but it’s hard to begrudge them it in a way, as they’ve worked hard to get where they are. I would recommend a few tweaks to the wine list to improve the value for money.
That said, I’m being super picky (fraid that’s just me!) - the pollock with katsu curry sauce and crispy potatoes is one of the best things I’ve eaten all year. The new incarnation of the crumpet made me forget I was sad they took the shrimp one away. The strawberry merengue and peach Melba desserts were epic. The Italian waitress who looked after us was charming, friendly and proficient. The restaurant is fabulously well lit - it’s a really welcoming room.
Net net - I guess I was just a little taken aback at dropping over 120pp on lunch in hackney!
Great food and great service for our lunch. Will for sure go back and have dinner.
Do not understand any of the negative comments except that bathroom facilities would be inadequate during a “full cover” scenario.
Exceptional cooking. Amazing flavours. Best scallops anywhere. They are spectacular.
We had our anniversary dinner at Cornerstone and it was absolutely wonderful. ❤️
Outstanding. One of the best meals I’ve had for a long time. Imaginative, quality food with fantastic knowledgeable service. Id go back tomorrow.
Having seen Tom Brown on GBM on a number of occasions we were very keen to try his new restaurant.
Well we were not disappointed - great vibe and feel to the place, interesting wine list and most importantly incredible food. Uncomplicated looking but unbelievably tasty food - the cured brill with tomatoes and sauce vierge and the plaice in chicken butter sauce were just outstanding and our personal favourites but it was all amazing.
We can't wait to go back !
Considering the meal for two cost nearly £200, i founding everything lacking. I needed a wow factor, I couldn’t say there was one dish where I didn’t want it to end and several I didn’t want to finish. The best thing about the evening was our very friendly and knowledgeable waitress. There is only one gents and ladies bathroom for the whole restaurant which leaves you waiting conspicuously outside when busy. It felt very much like a canteen and I wish all the staff could’ve looked happier
Really first rate food, but the service seemed designed to get us out of the door as soon as possible
Incredible food! Will definitely be returning. Popped to the pearl for an after dinner drink too
Excellent food & very friendly service. There's a minimal amount of carbs on the menu, meaning you get through quite a few dishes of incredibly delicate and refined fish dishes and the costs stack up. That said, it's well worth it. Highlights for me when I visited were the monkfish tartare and crab crumpet. Short wine menu, but what I had was very good.
Good meal, wish staff were more attentive
Top restaurant. Great dishes, served quickly and enjoyably.
I was SO excited to come to cornerstone, having booked months in advance, so perhaps the meal was bound to not live up to expectations. Whilst it was a memorable meal in a lovely setting with attentive service it wasn’t out of this world like I was expecting. If you are looking for a innovative meal centred on fish look go further - the puddings were AMAZING
Outrageously delicious. We ate the pastrami salmon, crab rarebit crumpets, smoked mackerel pate, oysters, Hake in katsu sauce and pavlova. Everything was en pointe.
Food was incredible. Service was incredible. Cannot wait to go again.
Very good food and service overall. Actually quite expensive and most dishes are quite small. They’re designed for sharing, but only have at most, 2 spoons each as they don’t contain vegetables or potatoes, so you ending up feeling hungry.
We had a mackerel pate which for me was the best dish, along with a grey mullet tartare. The scallop dish was like 1 1/2 scallops for £19.
I found the chocolate dessert a bit underwhelming and lacking texture. It was described as a torte, but was more like a mousse.
Wine was good (we had a picpoul de pinet, but nothing under £30/bottle.
Overall I enjoyed the meal, but wouldn’t be in a hurry to go back. There are many places out there, which are as good and cheaper.
As near perfection as a meal could be for a sea food lover. Sharing style for dishes excellent. Staff clear and informal. Portion sizes small but just right.
Always heavily booked and off the beaten track (though conveniently close to Hackney Wick Station) this is a restaurant well worth seeking out. The fish based menu of sharing plates are arranged from light to rich and there is a succinct wine list many available by the carafe. We left the choice to the restaurant and had the tasting menu. Not cheap but for such inventive, delicious and beautifully presented cuisine it is an absolute steal. The atmosphere was engagingly buzzing and hip with the noise level fine for conversation.
Amazing!! Beautiful food and great service. Have recommend to many people since I’ve been.
What a phenomenal meal we had. We opted to sit at the counter and watch the action. The food was sublime. We had the 'tasting menu - a selection of the various plates which gave a fabulous overview and saved us having to make the difficult decision on which ones we wanted! The format is a selection of small plates rather than a la carte and the menu changed according to what they have on the day. Not one dish disappointed. And we would love to return and try more! Well done to the whole team at Cornerstone!
