Very enjoyable experience . My wife and I were celebrating our 32nd anniversary . The quality and taste of the food was pleasing , as it embodied the authenticity of Jamaican cuisine. Our server Charmaine was brilliant , making us feel welcome and appreciated.
We shall be returning to “cottons” very shortly ..
Always been there for a drink. So I decided to eat. Good service and attentive staff... not going to give 5 stars for the food but 4 because some was great but just one particular item didn't taste as I should be. But I don't regret and be going back
The issue wasn’t with the restaurants food or location.
But I was upset to find out the date and time I had booked online using open table failed to disclose that the restaurant that day had been booked for an event.
Not only did this waste my time but ruined my evening. I was certain I’d enjoy my evening knowing I’ve made a reservation and everything would be fine, to arrive at the restaurant and be told I was unable to sit down and eat.
Authentic food, great atmosphere and great music
I would definately recommended this place and location. Very relaxed and easy going. The service was outstanding
Nice food, great cocktails and good music
It was great. All 3 of us hadn't been here before. I found it on Google and we went with the reviews. So happy we did. It was so delicious!! And the staff was great.
We made a booking on opentables.co.uk however when we called to confirm they told me that the kitchen is closed and no booking should have been made. It was poor the level of communication and professionalism was poor on behalf of the staff
Our waitress was very friendly and patient. The food was lovely and portion size reasonable. Cocktails were amazing we had no room for dessert as stuffed. Cottons is the best Caribbean restaurant we have come across and would definitely recommend and visit again. Only down fall they do not have a children’s menu.
Great customer service and well flavoured food as per usual!!
This is fast becoming one of my favourite Jamaican hot spot. A bit on the pricey side so will keep it for special occasion!
Great experience and value for money, the food quality was superb enjoyed every bit
Food and service was good but didn't seem to be great knowledge of the menu and what was available that day. Nevertheless fine for casual dining.
Exceptional food. Generous portions. Wonderful service. First class dining experience.
We had high expectations of Cottons however unfortunately they were not lived up to due to a few reasons. Food and service being of a sub-standard level were the main reasons with the atmosphere also a large factor at play. The food is okay, but could be better. The service meanwhile was fairly slack and it took us over 10 minutes to get the receipt upon asking for it and another 10 minutes to pay. There were only 2 waiters working, and although they did not look overworked, I believe another waiter is needed for smoother and faster service. The atmosphere was by far the biggest disappointment. With Caribbean restaurants, from both personal experience and what I have seen and heard from others, I would expect a lively and upbeat atmosphere however this was the total opposite. I take into account that the day we visited, it was a bank holiday however I personally feel this is no deterrent and I cannot imagine what the restaurant would be like if it were to be busy as there doesn't seem to be any vibe or character. I wouldn't recommend and would much rather visit Turtle Bay, which ticks all the boxes for me.
Had to wait for our booked table for 5 mins then had to wait a lot for someone to take our order. The drinks which we ordered straight away took 15+ mins to arrive.
Long waits throughout the night.
Waiter was friendly though.
Mandotory service charge was added to the bill and I didn't see it stated on the menu.
Didn't want to make a scene on a date night so paid but I feel like I was conned with the service charge.
Good food though plantain wasn't that fresh (tasted liked it was microwaved).
Good service and food, everyone enjoyed the whole experience
Under new management. It's not the same authentic Jamaican vibe. Food was ok. Ordered chicken rice and peas. The rice and peas was consist of black eye peas instead of kidney beans.
Spare ribs was cold.
The waiter forgot the plantain.
Had to pay 5.00 pounds each for 4 of us, for cocktails, even thou it was happy hour.
They need to step up.
Visited this restaurant for a meal for my husbands birthday. What or who that was meant to be the manager decided to cause an argument between 2 tables surrounding my husband and I. Which then ended with us being totally put off our food and taking it home to eat instead. Neither the manager (who had caused the argument) or the waiter who was serving us offered any kind of apology. We even had to wait so long to pay that we took ourselves to the bar to pay and requested that the service charge be taken off our bill as the service we received was terrible. The nice gentleman at the bar apologised (although it wasn’t anything to do with him) and gave us a free shot each. Although it was a nice gesture by then it was a bit too late. My husbands night was already ruined.....We will definitely not be returning to Cottons.
Really good quality of food, and staff were very friendly, second branch I’ve been to after shoreditch- they never disappoint. Amazing authentic Caribbean cuisine!!
Very noisy, so not great for a romantic evening. Service much improved - food delivered quickly. The portions were much smaller than they used to be - this time I got three small slices of plantain with my main meal and the slat cod starter was on the small side.
Nice food - very generous portions and excellent cocktails. Service was very good too. Highly recommend a visit.
I heard about Cottons from friend's saying it was good.
It was my first time attending on 4th March with my partner too. I looked online to view the menu and everything looked tasty. So when we arrived only to be told it was only a Sunday Brunch menu we was a bit disappointed because there is nothing on Cotton's menu to suggest there is a Sunday Brunch menu.
Anyways we choose our cocktails first which was very nice and didn't take long to make.
We choose our food but took quite a while before it came out. Cause we was so hungry we just ate it quick. Both of our food was quite warm but cause we was tight on time we didn't bother to say anything.
I finished my meal before my partner and was thinking I'm sure I'm missing something from my course. I looked at the menu and saw I was missing yorkshire pudding. I told the waitress and she when back to the kitchen. My partner then finished her meal and said she is still quite hungry. So she looked at the menu and then noticed she was missing rice and peas with plantain. I mean the Sunday Brunch isn't a massive menu and it wasn't busy.
I told the same waitress that my partner we missing food as well. She came back and said she will bring the rice and peas with plantain. she also gave his a complimentary dessert each for what had happened.
We ordered our desserts. When she came back with the desserts my partner ordered a fruit cake but was given a chocolate cake. I mean this is just shambles.
As I said before tight on time so we didn't bother to say anything but as we was leaving a couple behind us had just sat down. The couple was ordering from the main menu not the Sunday menu.
So for overall very disappointed for our first time.
Meh, that’s the best way to describe it. Just a meh dinner. Drinks were too sweet and the food was sub-par. The plaintain was overly fried in oil, literally dripping off when you picked them up. My partner and I had the Jerk Chicken, it was ok nothing special. The ambience was odd, partying downstairs and then a normal restaurant upstairs but felt disconnected. Would preferred if it was more buzzy upstairs as well. Walked in and were dismissed by the waiter when told we had a booking and were made to wait for 15 minutes. Won’t be going back.
I visited Cotton's, sunday just gone. Manager and staff are lovely friendly people. Members of staff will check on you often (in regards of how your food, are you ok, can they help with anything) but not enough to bother you which was nice, also staff were genuine which made the visit more comfortable and enjoyable. Live music was playing which really gave a good vibe. Would definately going back!!
Loved it. Food was great. Service was great. Coffee was awful. Well you can’t complain at that.
Everything amazing!from the courtesy of the staff to the food. All great. Flavours and taste unbeatable and also fantastic surrounding music.
Amazing atmosphere, amazing food and amazing mojitos...
I went with two friends and none of us found the food great, despite all being fans of that kind of food.
AVOID THIS PLACE. It's a shame to see how down hill Cottons has gone. The kitchen had run out of part of my meal so substituted it with an extra piece of chicken, which was inedible - it was off, it smelt bitter and old. I took a bite accidently and it turned my stomach. The rest of the food tasted like it had been cooked a few hours before then warmed in a microwave so it was dry, old, sticky and lacking flavour. The same was true of my friends meal. I told my waitress about my chicken and she took it away and said she would replace it, not that I wanted a replacement at that point. I never received it. I mentioned it to the waitor who took our payment (who i think was the manager) and he said sorry then proceeded to take full payment of over £60 for one of the worst meals I've ever eaten out. I felt embarrassed that I'd taken my friend there. He couldn't even finish his meal. Absolutely terrible. I've never written a review about a meal I've had but I have to warn people from going here. I wouldn't eat here again for free.
I have never been so disappointed with west Indian (Caribbean) food to this extent in my life. In part that is due to the exceptional reputation that Cottons is known for.
The service was fair and I will not and cannot complain about that, we were taken care of and waited on with a smile and great manners. My main issues with this establishment are A) Portion size of starter, B) Substandard and cold main meal and C) A cordial sold as juice.
What we initially requested as are main courses were not ready as yet, but would be available later on in the evening, so we had to choose something else from the menu. Not a good start, but I was not going to dwell on it.
Two slices of dry hard dough bread was placed on the table with no butter and a heavily garlic infused sauce to accompany it, we deemed this as interesting, but not enjoyable.
A) I ordered the Cod fishcakes for starters, at a cost of £6.50 I was taken back to see 3 tiny fishcakes upon my plate, as for taste they were edible, but nothing to make you ever want to order them again.
B) My main was the Jerk salmon on a bed of sweet potato mash and spinach, The salmon needed seasoning, as in salt, pepper and generally jerk seasoning, it was poor. The sweet potato mash and spinach was cold and had to be taken away to be reheated, this dried the Salmon out.
C) I ordered Soursop juice and was given a watered down cordial, no texture no thickness, no nothing.
Plain and simply an absolute disappointment.
Oh! And I also had a cocktail, "dark n stormy" it was not a true reflection of how this drink should taste.
Such a great atmosphere and amazing food.
Kamal the bar man is great and has such fun energy! If you come to this restaurant make sure you stop by the first and order a drink from him.
I have visited this restaurant many occasions before but I must say it has gone down hill.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody to eat.
Food is overpriced and dose not taste fresh and is not a genuine representation of authentic Caribbean food.
Fish platter was not cooked and ribs starters where cold.
The manager who is not from the Caribbean unlike myself was telling me how the fish is supposed to be cooked and it looked fine.
His attitude was disgusting, not apologetic and very arrogant.
The cocktails and music at the bar were the best highlights of the night.
Decent food, nothing special but definitely tasty. Service was questionable, with missing orders and general lack of impetus. All staff were very friendly though, which counts for a lot. Would recommend still.
Cottons offer a reliable, friendly service. Have visited a few times and it is comforting to know exactly what will be provided. Highly recommended and quite reasonably priced too.
the restaurant and drinks were great but the food was cold and didn't have many flavours. the waitress was lovely though. but I won't be going again
Friendly accommodating staff, friends were very late for table booking but we were made to feel comfortable and welcomed. Manager spent time to have leisurely conversation.
Love coming to Cottons because of the experience in food and music, but this time the Rive and Peas was very dry mate.
I'll bullet point this:
• Overpriced- Starter came and it was 3 prawns (king prawns Tesco type not big prawns) £7.50
• Music is great! Cocktails are good and £8.50 each
• Service was good
• The portions are no where near generous! Sides are very small and £3.50 each which adds up
• No one acknowledged it was a special occasion whatsoever so I was disappointed
We returned to Cottons for our 11 year anniversary, because we had had a great experience the year before. Unfortunately this time we didn't. There appeared to be a tense atmosphere between the staff, that we as customers could feel. We sat for a while, and were eventually served by a nice young lady who took our drinks and food order. She politely apologised for the delay, which we appreciated. It became quite obvious that for some reason or other, some customers were unhappy with their food. We hoped that our food would be ok, but when my curry goat came it was literally stone cold. It's served in a balti style dish which is meant to keep the food piping hot, so I was quite surprised. I had to ask for it to sent back. The reason I came to Cottons was for the authentic curry goat, and I expected it to be hot. I was told that they would do me a fresh 1, and when it arrived I was again a little underwhelmed. While the fresh 1 was much hotter than before, there was also much less in the bowl and very little meat, just a lot of gravy. This was a far cry from the curry goat I had the year before which I raved about to everyone I spoke to about it. there was no plantain or hardo bread either. I was left feelin quite hungry. On a positive note, my fiancé had a really nice fish dish with king prawns and dumplins. We were both very impressed with this dish and I was happy that she enjoyed her meal. On reflection, I'm not sure if we will make the trip into London to go to Cottons again as it's an hours drive for us and this experience has left me wondering if it's worth it. Sorry for the poor review but I'm being as honest as I can, in the hope that things might improve from my feedback. Thanks, Chris.
